Tinubu reacts to President Buhari’s declaration of June 12 as Democracy day

Tinubu reacts

Following the announcement by President Muhammadu Buhari on the immediate conferment of GCFR on late Abiola, the national leader of APC has reacted.

“President Muhammadu Buhari by declaring June 12 as Democracy Day and awarding Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR) to late MKO Abiola has confirmed that Abiola won the 1993 election”, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu said on Thursday night.

Tinubu, a former senator and governor of Lagos and one of the pro-democracy activists who spent years in exile,  made the assertion in a message entitled “The Immortalisation of Chief MKO Abiola”. The message  was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lagos by Tinubu’s  Media Officer, Mr Tunde Rahman.

He said that the award of the GCFR was also an acknowledgement that Abiola should have been allowed to serve as president after winning the free and fair expression of the popular will of the people.

Buhari had on Wednesday declared June 12 as new National Democracy Day with effect from 2019.

Buhari also said that the presumed winner of the June 12, 1993 election, Chief MKO Abiola, would be posthumously awarded the highest award of GCFR.

He added that Abiola’s running mate in the election, Amb. Babagana Kingibe, and late human rights lawyer, Gani Fawehinmi (SAN) would be vested with Grand Commander of the Niger (GCON).

Tinubu said that the declaration was a good news for democracy and a proud moment for Nigeria.

According to him, Buhari ‘s decision has corrected the wrongs of the past.

“Along with all democratic and fair-minded Nigerians, I welcome the news that June 12 will replace May 29 as Democracy Day. I too applaud Buhari for making this courageous and rightful decision.

“He has shown all Nigerians and the world that we have the moral fortitude to objectively face our history, learn from it and improve our society by virtue of this learning.

“June 12, more than any other day, symbolises the struggles and sacrifices made by countless Nigerians to establish democracy as our way of national governance.

“Chief MKO Abiola and others gave their lives that we might have democracy, that the will of the people will be sovereign and not suppressed by the will of the few.

“This proclamation by Buhari will forever immortalise the sacrifices made by these patriots who gave off themselves in service of such a noble and rightful purpose,” he said.

Tinubu also commended the award to MKO Abiola’s running mate, Amb. Babagana Kingibe and Chief Gani Fawehinmi.

He said that Chief Fawehinmi was a fearless advocate for democracy and the human rights of the common man.

According to him, whenever and wherever late Fawehinmi spoke, he spoke the language of truth to power.

Tinubu said that the designation of June 12 as Democracy Day was the fulfilment of the dream and efforts of many of the progressives.

“This fulfilment comes with a civic responsibility. We must consecrate this new holiday and ourselves so that we make it a living holiday.

“More so than ever before, the spirit of June 12 must live within us. It must guide our politics and how we govern ourselves.

“We must continuously dedicate ourselves to the freedoms and rights as well as the duties that democracy bestows on us all, political friend and foe alike,” he said

Tinubu said that the presidential proclamation should forever bury ill-conceived notion that President Buhari was ambivalent about democracy.

According to him, President Buhari has shown that he not only respects democracy but duly honours it.

“Democracy may be rough and untidy at times but it remains the form of government best suited for a society as diverse and multifaceted as ours.

“Today, the sun shines a bit more brightly. The sound of democracy peals more resolutely across the land. The sacrifices of Chief Abiola and others have been affirmed by the Federal Government he once should have led.

“Democracy has been given its proper seat. History has been corrected to the extent humanly possible. Nigeria continues to define its better self.

“Of this new Democracy Day and what it symbolises, we all should be equally proud,” he said.

Portuguese goalkeeper’s wife urges Coach to allow players masturbate

Portuguese goalkeeper

Wife of Portugese goalkeeper, Rul Patricio has urged Portugal’s Coach to allow players masturbate during the World Cup.

She said the National Team will have a better chance of success if the Coach, Fernando Santos urges his players to masturbate.

Vera Ribeiro is a psychologist who specializes in sexual matters, has published a book in which she examines the love lives of footballers.

In the book titled “Manual of Seduction”, Dr Ribeiro argues that players will be able to cope with anxiety and stress much better during the tournament if they indulge themselves regularly.

She insists that “nothing positive comes from sexual abstinence” and that forbidding players to make love before games also has a negative impact.

Dr Ribeiro, appearing on a Portuguese TV programme to promote her book, added: “The football player should not abstain from having sex before games, but we also know that in terms of routine they are not in contact with families either.

“We can not associate sports performance with the occurrence of sex.”

Rui Patricio will be Portugal’s No.1 in Russia and is a target for Premier League-bound Wolves.

The Molineux club have had a £16million bid rejected by Sporting Lisbon for the 30-year-old, who is one of a number of players demanding to be released from their contracts following a row with the club’s owner Bruno de Carvalho after fans attacked the squad at the training ground.

Tobi Bakre meets President Buhari (Photos)

Tobi Bakre meets

This evening, President Buhari broke his Ramadan fast with some entertainers and Youth Ambassadors at the state house, Abuja.

Among those invited were BBNaija’s Tobi Bakre, Sound Sultan, Kunle Afolayan, Tania Omotayo and others.

See more photos below:

Recall Tobi spoke to Pulse recently, about why reality stars fade away after shows like BBNaija come to an end.

Read interview below:

On why reality stars fade away

“Some people are not out there for the social media life. Like naturally, they are not out there for that kind of life.

“So they go into the reality show for whatever reason and after the show, they sink back into their private life.

“But for some others, they want showbiz, they want to act, they want to host, they want to be out there.

“I think that’s the clear divide. They are some people that have things they want to do that need them to be out there, they need to be seen, they need to remain famous.

“But for some people, it’s more like, ‘yea, I have gotten this level of buzz and it’s okay.

“It was fun while it lasted but I’d rather have my private life.’ So I think it’s a decision thing.

“And then for some people, maybe they tried somethings to be in the showbiz world and it doesn’t go as planned.

“Because when you come out, people have like very high expectations, and if you don’t deliver, you just crawl back in.”

On what makes the Double Wahala season different from the Gobe edition

“I think the difference is that last year, everybody had a clear favourite.

“I mean they had people they loved, but then everybody kind of had a clear favourite.

“But this time around, the finalists had their own “pushers.” They had people that were like, ‘we die for these people.’

“So even when they left the house, they [fans]] take your matter so personal.

“Like people in my camp, my Tobination family, the way they take [my] matter, even [I’m] like, “it’s not that serious.’ But it’s all love. They love and believe in the housemates, so they follow through.

“It’s no more about the reality show, it’s now about, ‘mehn, we are invested in you.’

“Everyone supporting me is like friends and family. Because I know how it is.

“Last year did I vote? I didn’t vote. For you to take out your phone to vote for someone, that means you want good for the person.

“So I really appreciate everyone who is pushing and supporting.”

“Meghan Markle misses her old life and may divorce for the third time” – Foreign blogs claim

Meghan Markle has only been married for only 2 weeks and foreign blogs are already predicting a divorce for her – there’s been claims that this would be her third divorce and not second as everyone’s been led to believe.

It’s in high hopes that these are all speculations but multiple publications have been making the same claim.

According to Radar Online, Meghan is fed up with her new life and wants out – they claim she misses her old life, especially her life as an actress, and finds royal life a bit extreme.

Quoting a palace insider, Radar wrote:

Meghan hasn’t really adjusted well to her new role.

She misses acting and she misses Los Angeles. She misses her family, and her friends.

Meghan gave up everything for Prince Harry and although she’s madly in love with him, the Queen’s rules are a bit too extreme for her.

The source also claims that Meghan is finding it difficult to get along with her sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge.

The source added:

Kate is supposed to be Meghan’s tutor, but the two are very different. She will never live up to Kate’s standards.

The National Enquirer claims Trevor Engelson isn’t Meghan Markle’s first husband – they claim Meghan was married for the first time to a man she met at Northwestern University who now resides on the East Coast.

According to People Magazine, thee Queen is trying to help Megan adjust to her new role. The two are scheduled to go on a solo trip 200 miles north of England later this month.

The report said:

“The Queen knows the potential pitfalls of not giving [new members] a guiding hand,” Ingrid Seward, author of the recent biography of the Queen and Prince Philip, My Husband & I, tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue.

“It’s all about the monarchy. She can’t expect Meghan to know everything without being shown.”

“She doesn’t want 70 years of hard work to be for nothing,” adds Seward. “I’m sure she feels Meghan needs a steadying hand in these early days.”

Jaywon’s Management Team react to the viral videos of SARS allegedly disrupting his birthday party

Jaywon management team react

Jaywon’s management team has finally reacted to the viral video of SARS Operatives allegedly disrupting his birthday party last night at his home in Lagos.

According to LIB, one of his managers, Derek said the video making the rounds on social media is actually not the true picture.

According to Derek, a guest at the party got drunk and was misbehaving outside the singer’s premises.

Members of the estate who were uncomfortable with the noise the drunk guest was making alerted the estate security who in turn alerted SARS officers to take the drunk guest out of their estate.

Jaywon came out and was able to mediate in the matter. He took his drunk guest back into his compound. Derek says this is what transpired last night.

The videos were actually shared by rapper, Ruggedman and MC Makopolo.

For how long will this continue, a lot has been said about this FSARS brutally and abuse of power yet the government seems to be paying deef ears to the cry of the people! For how long will the people who are supposed to protect lives and our interest, be the same people who deprive us of our dignity. How do you justify this please, how can we relate to the very fact that our lives means nothing to this people. Since when has being successful become a crime ( Please don’t get me wrong, am not talking about any form of illegal success here) since when has being nicely or neatly dressed become an offense. It’s rather unfortunate that these days people fear to walk freely or move around because of the fear of #SARS….. Earlier today I was at @jaywonjuwonlo private party and it was all happiness until we heard shouts of help calling from outside we rushed out only to realize that some bunch of hungry looking SARS officers had strangled @ezzyplanettv a presenter from planet TV who had just left the event on his way home. They had his face broken with blood everywhere, even after he had shown them his ID, the funny thing is that he was wearing a TV branded t shirt, they had him held down to his throat to the point he couldn’t talk ! Apparently it was the camera guy attached to him that raised alarm. We all ran out to see what happened only for this guy’s to threaten to shoot any one that came close, it took a strong confrontation from Jaywon himself and every other person there that almost lead to a serious riot before this boys wear eventually freed….. I had to narrate this so u can understand the level of disappointment I have right now. This been said, this is to the federal government, I know that it’s a Nigerian thing to allow situations go out of control before actions are taken, and it’s rather unfortunate as this issue of SARS brutally is slowly but steadily becoming an every day news. But just as it’s happening every day people are gradually getting tired, irritated & angry as the day goes by and if care is not taken, there would soon be a very bad REVOLUTION as regards to this SARS THING. Something needs to be done URGENTLY @instablog9ja @tundeednut.

Banky W reacts to Chimamanda Adichie’s comment on men holding the door for women

Banky W reacts

Renowned author and strong feminist, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has gotten lots of Nigerians talking with a comment she made when she appeared on Trevor Noah’s show.

The celebrated author said chivalry, for example opening doors for people, shouldn’t be gender-based and women should also open the door for men.

She told Trevor Noah:

I thing gestures like holding the door shouldn’t be gender-based. I think it’s a lovely thing to hold the door but we should hold the door for everyone.

Like, I hold the door for men and for women. And so I think the idea of someone holding the door for a woman because she’s a woman… I have trouble with it.

I’m quite happy for people to hold the door for me. But I’m like, hope they’re not doing it because of this sort of idea of chivalry. Because chivalry is really about the idea that women are somehow weak and need protecting. But we know that really, there are many women who are stronger than men.

Speaking of women being thought of as weak and given preferential treatment in crisis situations, the writer said:

So really, what I think is that the people we should protect are people who need protecting, whether men or women. Which is also why I sort of have trouble with the idea of women and children. When women are classified in the same… I mean, when there’s a tragedy and we say, women and children should leave first. I think, actually, it’s the people who are weak, unwell, young… who should leave first.

Man wrongly imprisoned for 25 years gets $10million as compensation

In 1991, a Philadelphia man was sentenced to life in prison in the United States for killing his 77 year old neighbor, Louise Talley.

According to reports, Louise was raped and repeatedly stabbed at her home, and Anthony was indicted in the murder.

25 years later, Anthony has been released from jail, as he was found innocent of the crime, and will be paid $10 million as compensation.

Apparently, the conviction was reversed in 2014 after DNA evidence pointed to a former crack addict who died in a South Carolina prison.

Wright filed a federal lawsuit accusing police of writing a false confession and coercing him to sign it without reading it, and planting other evidence used to convict him. A statement from Wright said he will never get over the years spent in prison or missing time with his mother and growing son, but he was relieved he could get on with his life.

Wright has expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the case.

“Although I will never get over the 25 years I spent in prison for crimes I did not commit, or missing time with my mother before she died or with my son the whole time he was growing up, I am relieved that I can now get on with my life,” he said in a statement.

“For the sake of my young grandchildren, I am encouraged that the City of Philadelphia will continue to take steps to make sure that what happened to me never happens to my grandchildren or any other child.”

A spokesman for District Attorney Larry Krasner, who took office in January, said the DA believes the decision to retry Wright “was unacceptable.”

“It is not a case that the current office would have retried,” Ben Waxman said.

“The city’s decision to be accountable for law enforcement misconduct while protecting public funds is commendable.”

Peter Neufeld, one of Wright’s attorneys and a founder of the Innocence Project, said: “Tony Wright, an innocent man, wrongfully charged and convicted, narrowly escaped execution when a divided jury declined to impose the death penalty. Mr. Wright maintained his innocence for 25 years and fought in the courts … to win the right to DNA testing. His steadfastness, his grace under fire, inspire us all.”

The settlement does not include an admission of liability and will be paid over time: $4 million by June 30; $3 million by Aug. 30; and $2.85 million by Aug. 30, 2019.

After the 2016 retrial ended in a not guilty verdict, jurors said they were disappointed that city prosecutors had decided in 2014 to retry the case.

“I’m angry,” Grace Greco, the jury forewoman, said after leaving the courtroom then. “The evidence was there that he did not commit this crime. The city should never have brought this case.”

Another Muslim group defends Falz, slams MURIC over #ThisIsNigeria video

Muslim group defends

Yet another Muslim group, ‘Muslims Against Terror’ has defended Falz over his ThisisNgeria video.

This is coming after another group, Muslims Rights Concern (MURIC) issued a warning to him over the same video.

The video titled ‘This is Nigeria’ touched on many issues wrong with the Nigerian society as it featured some girls wearing hijab and dancing shaku shaku.

According to Falz, the use of the girls n hijab was to depict the Chibok girls kidnapped by the Islamist terror group, Boko Haram.

The video was condemned by MURIC with claims that it ridicules their religion. They gave the rapper seven days ultimatum to take down the video or face consequence.

Reacting to MURIC’s statement, Muslims Against Terror stated that the group does not have an understanding of veil usage.

Below is a statement in part, from the Muslim Against Terror Group.

“In clear contradiction to what MURIC’s Professor Ishaq Akintola claimed, Islam or Muslim was NEVER mentioned in the video and the veil is not owned by Islam but worn by anyone who so feels, hopefully to the pleasure of Muslims and worn by nuns and sometimes forcibly doused by terrorists on their captors as happened in the Chibok case.

“Where did Ishaq see Islam or Muslim in this video?

“Was this subvert threat of a possible repeat of radical and meaningless, unjustified violence by misguided Islamists in the past, a means of merely defending the Buhari administration possibly negatively affected by the viral video and defending Fulani herder-related terrorism by attempting to present the video as religiously provocative? The video was not.

“If at all the video provoked any religion it was the Christian faith, by ridiculing pastors casting out demons via grabbing female breasts, and also laying direct attacks at pastors involved in the establishment of universities which their congregations cannot attend.”

The group also urged MURIC to focus on the issues raised in the video.

“As regards truths of value in the video, there were very many that seemed not to be digested by Professor Ishaq, including that the people are extremely poor, medical facilities are poor, that we operate a predatory neocolonial-capitalist system fueled on fraud and exploitation, bedeviled with institutionalized corruption, that criminal cases are settled in police stations and not courts, police station closing by six, no electricity, youth work multiple jobs and yet are called lazy by the president.”

Nigerian man slams a lady for refusing to come to his house

Nigerian man slams

A Nigerian Lady has taken to popular micro-blogging site, twitter to posts screenshots from a conversation she had with a man who insulted and called her names because she refused to visit him.

The lady who was obviously tweeting with anger, shared the screenshots and declared that she was done giving contacts to men.

She wrote:

I’m done giving my contact to guys, just because I don’t want them to follow me around, embarrassing themselves. For God sake I don’t even need or want you, it’s called being considerate.

Just imagine the nonsense.

To those who thought I should’ve ignored him from the very start. Y’all right, but I guess my curiosity got the best of me. I was really angry and I guess I wanted to see how far he would really take things and even have the last word before blocking him.
