The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has banned the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigeria Police Force from conducting stop and search operations on roads except when necessary.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that some group of Nigerians recently on social media, called for the scrapping of SARS over alleged harassment of innocent Nigerians, using the #EndSARS. Following the allegation, the Inspector- General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, promised to restructure and reposition the unit for effective service delivery. Idris also warned members of the group against acting as body-guards, delving into land matters and debt collection that were considered civil.
He further warned that members of the unit must only embark on operations with the permission of the commissioner of police in charge of SARS in the police commands.
“You must operate in official uniform clearly marked for identification. I just want to warn you all here that any officer caught engaging in these activities will be dealt with accordingly. The Nigeria Police force under my leadership shall operate strictly guided by the human rights principles as enshrined in the United Nations charter on human rights” he said.
He mandated the Inspector-General of police’s monitoring units and the X-squad and other over sights unit of the force to monitor the activities of the SARS. The police boss noted that the establishment of the unit was due to activities of the men of the underworld.
He said that as part of measures to check the unit, they would be solely mandated to confront only armed robbery cases and violent crimes in the country, Idris also said that men deployed to SARS would undergo training, continuous assessment and psychometric test to determine their suitability or otherwise.

A Nigerian lawyer and writer, Elnathan John has showered praises on Nigerian cross-dresser Bobrisky as according to him, the self-acclaimed Nigerian Barbie Doll is a million times braver than he his.
He took to his Twitter page to laud the effeminate, saying Bobrisky seems to be stronger than most activists he knows.
He believes if in a society that openly frowns against what Bobrisky stands to believe in and he still maintain his stand in all circumstances, then the bleaching cream expert deserves some accolades.
Read his tweets below:
“One day in Nigeria we will talk about Bobrisky’s quiet revolution. Theses will be written about how, with all her issues, she is challenging the meaning and idea of gender in a way more radical than we can ever do with words. You don’t have to like her. But she is important.
Bobrisky is a million times braver than I will ever be. Braver than most activists I know. In a country where you are one wrong move, one wrong place away from death, away from a mob, away from murderous religious bigots selective in their enforcement of the rules of their gods.
Remember the cross-dresser had at a time openly mentioned that he was gay without any fear of being prosecuted.

Nollywood actress, Adesua Etomi-Wellington has penned a motivational piece for people going through tough times, assuring them things will get better.
According to her, she also went through difficult times and was constantly hurt by people she cared about.
Read her post below ;
“This message is linked to my faith and the God I serve but IT IS FOR EVERYONE|. I remember a time in my life when it seemed like NOTHING was going right and I mean NOTHING. Everything just seemed to suck. I was constantly being hurt by people I cared about and was good to, my career…well, I didn’t have one and it wasn’t for lack of trying, people I loved were going through tough times, everything wasn’t going right. It became hard to pray. I’d stay in my house, in bed for daysss. I never talked about it. On so many occasions, I’d cry myself to sleep.
I constantly wished i was someone else. I was deeply unhappy. Can’t remember how but I was finally able to start praying through it all. Started talking bout it too. I Wish I could tell you that things got better immediately. Lol. They didn’t but I’d tell you what did happen. I fought every single day for my life.
The life I knew was mine. I started to focus on what i did have and became more thankful. I started to speak positively about myself and my life. I started to smile more. I started to laugh more and then I learnt the secret of being content in any and every situation. I also learnt to give even when I had very little.
I worked on myself and asked God to make me better. One day I remember hearing ‘ it’ll all make sense some day’. I’m not saying it all makes sense now but things are definitely better than they used to be. It didn’t happen overnight but it did happen. Slowly but surely. There’s a reason I constantly try to remember to keep God at the centre of it all. He’s literally holding me together.
I still go through tough times, everyone does but my perspective has changed. We don’t see complete pictures but I serve a God who does. I know it’s tough and I’m really sorry.
If no one has told you before, i want you to know that you’re stronger than you can possibly imagine, even on the days that you can’t get yourself out of bed. You’re beautiful. You’re loved. You’re cherished. You’re forgiven and the world needs you. You’re not a mistake. All these are true, whether you believe in God or not.
I don’t know why I wrote this but I feel someone really needs it.
Popular musician cum Actor, Banky W has reacted to the news of the most recent suicide in Lagos, involving a wealthy woman who parked her SUV and jumped into the lagoon to end her life.
The actor who is known to be sensitive toward issues like this has suggested psychiatric centres where people can seek help as well as noting his own personal opinion of an escape route.
He wrote:
I just heard the heartbreaking news about the young lady who committed suicide by jumping off the 3rd mainland bridge in Lagos… Barely 48 hours after we discussed Anthony Bourdain.
This is a list of all the regional psychiatric centres in Nigeria (thanks @mocheddah). Please reach out and talk to someone. If you’re dealing with depression, it is not ridiculous. It is not something you should be ashamed of. If you feel like you’re done, and you have nothing left to live for, please believe that you are wrong.. Please talk to someone. Suicide is not the answer.
PS: My *personal* belief is that GOD is the answer. And if you’re in Lagos and willing to try Him, you can go to my church @mytph and talk to someone. Not trying to impose my personal spiritual beliefs on anyone.
“I did not feel anything killing him, human being is the same thing as animals,” a man from Borno state has said as he confesses to killing his friend for the purpose of taking his heart for money making rituals.
The Lagos State police command has apprehended four persons for the murder of their friend, Isaiah James.
Following interrogation at the homicide section of the State Criminal and Intelligence Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, one of the suspects, simply identified as Daniel, confessed to the crime.
He said:
We are from Chibok in Maiduguri, Borno State. We are four that killed our friend, Isaiah James, for ritual purposes, though it was not our initial plan to do so. We wanted to do charms to excel in advance fee fraud, known as 419, but the native doctor who we consulted told us that he won’t do charms for us with regards 419.
We asked why and he told us that we are not educated. He told us that we should be literate before we can do 419 successfully. We asked if there was another alternative and he said he would perform a ritual out of sympathy for us. He told us to provide a human heart. That was the beginning of our problems.
When the herbalist told us to bring a human heart, we told him to help us organise it. He promised to do so and charged us N100,000. We paid him N60,000 and promised to balance the N40,000. Few days later, the native doctor called us to say that one of his boys who he sent on the mission for the human heart hunting was shot in the hand by vigilance group members. He said he won’t be able to provide us with the heart and asked us to provide it ourselves.
According to Daniel, they became confused on their next plan of action until the gang leader identified as Audu, suggested that he would lure his cousin, who is also a friend of Daniel’s, to the place where they would kill him and pluck out his heart for the ritual, Guardian reports.
Daniel continued:
We called him on phone and told him to meet us at a drinking joint in Ajah, Lagos. He agreed to meet us. He did not suspect foul play and was comfortable with us. We met at night and we started drinking local gin until the wee hours.
We bought him fried yam. At about 1:00a.m. we said we should go home. As we were walking home, Audu who was armed with a knife, said he was going to urinate. So all of us including our target joined Audu to a corner to urinate. It was at that corner that we all rushed at him, pulled him down and hit him with hard objects and Audu stabbed him.
When we noticed that he was dying, Ayuba butchered him, searched inside, but he could not find the heart. I collected the knife from him and put my hand inside, I found the heart. His heart was still alive and pumping blood, I pulled it out with the help of the knife.
We took it to the native doctor at Ijebu Ode, Ogun State. He used it to prepare beans for us. He promised that after eating the beans porridge, we would start making big money. He said that anything we laid our hands must prosper. He requested for the N40,000 balance which we paid him. We had just finished the meal when the police came to pick me.
A lady who saw us the night we killed Isaiah, told his people that she saw us in company of Isaiah. We are all from Chibok in Maiduguri. When the police came to me, I confessed. I did not feel anything killing him, human being is the same thing as animals. My regret is that we did not succeed in making the money and that the native doctor escaped arrest.
In an average Nigerian society, the value accrued marriage is on the same level with success; if you are successful but not married, you are never properly respected.
That being said, most Nigerian girls want to settle down between the ages of 20 – 28. However, when the plan does not turn out as expected, it becomes a big problem.
The unavailability of the right man or a willing man is usually what people in this category highlight as excuse. When this happens, pressure sets in for her especially when she reaches her mid 30’s and beyond.
This notion might be what has led a young Nigerian man to post on facebook that proposing to a lady in her 30s is not an engagement but a rescue mission.
The man, Odoju Samuel wrote;
Proposing to a lady a her 30’s is not engagement, it is called rescue mission…. Guys are we together ?
She added that the motive behind her current action is not because she wants him back, but because instead of taking care of his child, he is living a fake life for social media.

A newly wed bride, Virtuous Joy has taken to her social media to narrate how she overcame all the hateful words that were said to her simply because of her size.
Joy shared this motivational piece on her social media, read below:
I remember being so happy and excited about my wedding day and how beautiful I felt. When my husband first saw me in my wedding attire he couldn’t take his eyes off of me. He couldn’t stop talking about how beautiful and amazing I looked.. it was such a magical moment for the both of us.
Once we posted our pictures for our family and friends. So many people were so happy for us! Then there were those folks that wanted to let me know just how much a fat girl did not deserve this kind of happiness so they tried their hardest to take it away.
People will try to take away your joy. They will try to disturb your peace. They will do everything in their power to make you feel miserable and worthless. DO. NOT. LET. THEM! For so long I let people dictate my every move and decisions! I let what people thought or said about me effect how I viewed myself. At one point I felt like I didn’t deserve to feel beautiful. I didn’t deserve to be loved. I didn’t deserve to pursue my dreams. Oh, how wrong I was!
I’m so happy I’m constantly being reminded of who God says I am! I am fearfully and wonderfully made!
Sis, PURUSE YOUR DREAMS. WRITE THAT BOOK. START THAT BUSINESS and continue to know and remind yourself that you are loved, you are so important, you are BEAUTIFUL in so many ways, and you are needed!
Let today be the day that you stop letting people who don’t matter hold you back!

A photo of the said movie shared by a Facebook user identified as Richeal Ogbonna showed the car in front of the poster.
The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) in a statement have declared that instead of suing Falz to court, they would report him to appropriate agencies.
The Muslim group last week threatened to sue Falz if he did not take the video down and tender an apology.
The rapper didn’t apologize rather he explained himself in a couple of media interviews.
Now, MURIC has said, ‘In view of the intervention of well-meaning Nigerians, counseling from several quarters and commitments given by us to those who interfaced with us on this matter, an emergency meeting of MURIC’s Think-Tank was convened on Sunday, June 10, 2018 to review the situation and resolved to drag the artist to government agencies saddled with the responsibility of censoring films and videos. It is not a U-turn but a sudden change in tactics’.
The full statement reads ;
The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) last week resolved to sue Folarin Falana (Falz the Bahd Guy), a Nigerian artist, who produced the video song titled ‘This is Nigeria’ in which a Fulani man was seen beheading somebody. The video also featured hijab-wearing female choreographers dancing the ‘shaku-shaku’ (a dance associated with drug). A seven-day ultimatum was given for the withdrawal of the video and an apology failing which a legal tussle would be launched.
Our office has since been inundated with solidarity visits, while our telephone lines have been flooded with a deluge of calls from members, friends, well-wishers, journalists and other concerned Nigerians, majority of whom are of the Islamic faith.
In view of the intervention of these well-meaning Nigerians, counseling from several quarters and commitments given by us to those who interfaced with us on this matter, an emergency meeting of MURIC’s Think-Tank was convened on Sunday, June 10, 2018 to review the situation.
In deference to pleas made by well-meaning Nigerians, in order to keep faith with our avowed motto (Dialogue, Not Violence) and to further confirm that MURIC is a listening, mature and responsible organization committed to promoting peace in Nigeria, the Think-Tank resolved to drag the artist to government agencies saddled with the responsibility of censoring films and videos. It is not a U-turn but a sudden change in tactics.
This will have a more enduring impact not only on Falz but the entire entertainment industry. It will also make the agencies sit up to their responsibilities and inject a huge dose of discipline in the music and film industries in general.
MURIC expresses deep appreciation to its members nation-wide, particularly Muslim lawyers who volunteered to take up the case gratis, leaders of Islamic organizations across the country who offered their solidarity as well as senior civil servants who shared their rich experiences with us.
Although he stopped short of apologizing, the artist has tried to clear himself in published interviews made available to us. According to him, he did not intend to ridicule Muslims. He said his intention was to call attention to the plight of the Chibok girls although we think he has done that the wrong way.
A scene in the video in which the ‘Chibok girls’ are in pensive mood would have been more representative of the reality on ground because kidnapped girls cannot be dancing like people under the influence of drug. They are in captivity and so they have no cause under the sun for jubilating.
Again, the Fulanis (Muslims) were painted as killers while Benue militias (Christians) who rustle Fulani cattles and slaughter their wives and children were not featured. This is grossly unfair. Falz should find a way of balancing his video. The kidnappers of the South East (also Christians) were spared while the oil saboteurs of the Niger Delta (Christians too) were ignored. Falz video is loaded with Islamophobia. That video should be titled ‘This is not Nigeria’. It is Islam-bashing. Nigeria’s video regulatory agency should therefore ban the video or ask the artist to edit it properly.
With this latest development and even before the seven-day ultimatum expires, MURIC is no longer contemplating court action against Falz, neither are we demanding any apology from him or his management. The likely pecuniary gain in the event of a court validation of our claims does not interest us. We are no longer looking at Falz but at a larger picture.
The courts will only be interested in legalities, judiciability and technicalities but the video board will look beyond all that. Is it professional? Is it balanced? Is it truly representative of our country? Is it morally justifiable? These are what will interest the board and they are in tandem with our thinking. We appreciate artists and our aim is not to punish Falz. He is not a lazy Nigerian youth.
The matter will now go to those government agencies who are supposed to do their jobs in the first place. Instead of creating media tension and granting cheap popularity, this matter will now be handled by professionals who know what to do.
Our emphasis is going to be mainly on the portrayal of Fulanis as killers in the video with the concomitant ugly perception it is likely to create among Nigerians as well as its bandwagon effect on the image of Muslims in general. This is one area Falz has not been able to explain away, yet he refused to apologise. That aspect of the video would have been edited had the censorship agencies done what was expected of them or if Falz had followed due process.
In the interest of peace, law and order, we are calling on the National Film And Video Censors Board (NFVCB) to take up the matter from this moment. Although MURIC will still do a followup with an official petition, we expect the board to have begun its independent investigations on the matter particularly with the furore generated by the issue.
In a nutshell, we insist that Falz video “This is Nigeria” is offensive and provocative. It portrays Fulanis (and Nigerian Muslims) as killers. It is capable of igniting crisis and precipitating a general breakdown of law and order. The video board must therefore do the needful.
