A South African student who splurged more than $63,000 of $1.1 million she erroneously received was apprehended on Tuesday and appeared in court for alleged theft, police said.
28 year old Sibongile Mani, was arrested by the police’s serious commercial crime unit after she was asked to turn herself in, Anelisa Feni, spokeswoman for an elite police unit, the Hawks, told AFP.
Mani, a student at Walter Sisulu University in Eastern Cape province, appeared before a magistrate court on charges of theft.
She qualified last year for 1,400-rand ($110) in monthly food allowances from the National Students Financial Aid Scheme, which aids underprivileged students.
Instead, she was accidentally given $1.1 million in June and went on a spending spree, splurging on expensive clothing, a smartphone and partying.
It took the scheme three months to detect the error. It recovered the remainder of the funds from her bank account.
Mani was released on a warning and ordered to appear again on July 2.
A 41-year-old man, Michael Akpan-Isaiah, has been remanded in prison custody for allegedly defiling his four daughters.
The minors are aged between two and 17 years. Isaiah, from Akwa Ibom State, allegedly committed the offence between April and May at Borokiri Sand Field, Port Harcourt. .
The charge reads:
“That you, Michael Akpan Isaiah, sometime in April, 2018, did have unlawful carnal knowledge of (name withheld) without her consent .
That you, Michael Akpan Isaiah, sometime in May, 2018, did have unlawful carnal knowledge of (name withheld) aged 7 years old.”
The accused admitted committing the crime, but claimed he was manipulated..
But a Federation of International Women Lawyers (FIDA) representative, Fortune Ada Ndah, dismissed the claims and told the court that he carried out the act in his right senses.
She alleged that the incest had been going on even before the two-year-old he also defiled was born.
“The accused has been forcefully sleeping with his daughters for the past three years,” Ndah said.
Chief Magistrate Zinnah Alikor described the act as an abomination, saying it was wicked and devilish.
She blamed the mother for encouraging incest by not having a close relationship with her children. .
Alikor declined jurisdiction on the charge and ordered that the original case file be sent to the state Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for advice.
She ordered the remand of the accused in prison custody and adjourned the matter sine dine.
Addressing reporters after the sitting, Ndah said:
“Medical diagnosis conducted on the children showed they have been defiled.
“FIDA is not happy about this irresponsible act of a man to his daughters.
“We will ensure the matter is prosecuted to act as a deterrent to others.”
For those who follow American Hip-hop, it’s no longer news that two heavyweights – Canadian Rapper Drake and American Rapper, Pusha are currently locking horns in a much publicized rap beef.
Well Pusha T has just made a damning revelation about the God’s plan rapper- DRAKE
Pusha T went straight for Drake’s jugular in a newly released diss track … taking shots at Drizzy’s childhood, alleging he’s got a secret son and releasing a photo of a young Drake with blackface.
In the track, titled, “The Story of Adidon” — mixed over the beat for Jay-Z’s “The Story of O.J.” — Push raps, “You are hiding a child, let that boy come home, deadbeat motherf*****.”
Pusha T drops Drake’s alleged kid’s name, saying, “Adonis is your son and he deserves more than an Adidas press run” and targets the baby mama, who he calls “Sophie” … “Love that baby, respect that girl. Forget she’s a porn star, let her be your world.”
The new track is a response to Drake’s “Duppy Freestyle” released earlier this week targeting Pusha T and Kanye.
Push touches on Drake’s race too, saying, “Confused always felt you weren’t black enough, afraid to grow it because your fro wasn’t nap enough.”
As at the time of writing this , Drake has not responded to these claims…
I don’t know what y’all thinking but to me Drake in blackface makes the line from Infared “So I don’t tap dance for the crackas and sing Mammy” the hardest bar of this lyrical warfare thus far.
Kemi Olunloyo apologizes to Linda Ikeji, it may seem as though she has succumbed to Hushpuppi’s demand before he can donate to her medical bills.
In reaction to this, the investigative journalist did not continue with her claims on Linda’s pregnancy, but she did what needed to be done by humbly apologizing.
In a video she posted on her Youtube Channel, she first started up with the incident that happened in Paris recently where a Malian Migrant Rescued a Boy dangling from a 4 storey building, she went on to how bloggers really needs to do their job, before she proceeded in tears saying:
“I never got married before having my kids, and it hurts me so bad, but i told my kids that’s the way it is, i want the best for Linda, I dont want what happened to me to happen to Linda, So Am Sorry about what i said to Linda Ikeji, But she hurt me too.’
To Prove that her words are genuine, Kemi says having made peace with Linda she has decided to end her Journalism.
In the end she thanked Hushpuppi for been a peace advocate. She captioned the video as thus below;
The blogger donated to my prison health and wellness fund and I made a video thanking her. A year later she told the Punch newspapers that she sent me N100k while was “languishing in prison when nobody wanted to help her” Little did many people know that bail conditions keeping me in prison was not money related. Rather it was a surety and an international passport. I was very HURT that she said this to a paper and her fans. All this because I reported her as not being pregnant according to several newstips.
I have decided to make peace with Linda despite how she ruined my name and brand after the gun story and an earlier family home wrecking incident. News is news and Nigerians don’t understand that. I have therefore decided to end my journalism career writing Nigerian news. A Nigerian socialite Hush Puppi whom I featured in my sarcasm yoruba skit #NgbatNgbati on @HNNAfrica on instagram was asked to donate to my medical bills to battle PTSD after my unfair prison detention. Hush wanted Linda and I to make peace and promised to donate if that happened. I cannot write an open letter as I have no strenght to write due to my mental illness PTSD. I did this video. Hopefully they will see it. Thank you Toyin Abraham, Tonto Dikeh who spoke at lenght to me on the peace initiative. Thank you Hush Puppi for being a peace advocate. Good luck everyone.

As the FIFA World Cup for Russia draws nearer, many Nigerians are drumming support for the Super Eagles both in Nigeria and Russia.
Supporters have been purchasing jerseys en masse to show support for the national football team.
Mallam Shehu Dikko who is the 2nd Vice President and Chairman of NFF Marketing, Sponsorship and TV Rights Committee said; “the new Super Eagles’ jersey will soon be in the markets all over the would including some Nike shops in different parts of Nigeria on the 29th of May, 2018.”
But the production of the jerseys has taken a phoney twist as some individuals have circulated replicas around the market before the official release date by Nike.
The traders interviewed by the BBC Pidgin have bragged that sales of the fake jerseys have been explosive.
“I pray Nigeria reaches the finals. Once we make it to the finals of the world cup, I will import a container-load of jerseys for big sales” Obiora, a local trader from the South-eastern part of Nigeria said.
“I have been selling the Nigerian jerseys even before they were unveiled on the internet. All my customers have been going crazy about the jerseys. I have successfully sold more than 3,000 pieces so far” he added.
A BBC correspondent also spoke with other traders in the business of selling fake jerseys which the Nigeria Football Federation hasn’t endorsed. One of the traders proudly rocking the replica jersey said his is original as he imported them from Thailand. The traders also help customers in cresting their names on the jerseys for a feee.
Another trader who called the replica jersey a ‘top grade’ said the price ranges from N7,000 to N10,000 per unit.
It would be recalled that there were earlier reports that most of the new Super Eagles jerseys in circulation are fake. Further checks revealed that Nigerians are indifferent about purchasing immitations. They believe the original one which costs $85 (N30,600) is too expensive for them.
One Twitter user identified as Iya Oni Jersey is also in the notorious business of selling fake Super Eagles jerseys for N15,000 per unit on the micro-blogging platform.
This act of Intellectual Property Theft and Copyright Abuse is criminal but it appears the society is comfortable with it. It remains unclear if the leadership of the NFF will take judicial actions against the traders of replica Super Eagles Jerseys.
Watch a video of Obiora, the trader and his colleagues bragging to journalist about importing fake jerseys for sale in Nigeria below:
Argentina and Barcelona star Lionel Messi has admitted that playing against the Super Eagles of Nigeria has always been a difficult encounter for the Albiceleste, Complete Sports reports.
The Super Eagles and La Albiceleste will cross paths for the fifth time at the World Cup when hostilities kick off in Russia.
Argentina have emerged victorious in in their previous four encounters with Nigeria at the World Cup.
Their last encounter in a friendly game last year saw the Super Eagles come from 2-0 down to wi 4-2.
Messi who has joined up with his teammates as they intensify preparations for the 2018 World Cup, says Argentina are in a tough group.
“We have to take it match by match,” Messi said in an interview with Pasión por el Fútbol.
“Starting off with a win is important because it’ll then make us calmer. It’s not an easy group. Iceland showed in the Euros that they can go up against anyone.
“Croatia has a very good midfield and if you let them, they’ll control the ball all match long. They have Spain’s style. And it always costs us when we play Nigeria.”
The five-time FIFA Best Player award winner hints that he does not see himself playing for another European club aside Barcelona.
“It becomes more and more clear that Barcelona will be my only team in Europe. After that, I have always said I want to play football in Argentina, but I don’t know if it will happen. I have it in mind.
“I’d like to live it, be it for six months or a few matches but I don’t know. One never knows. My dream was to play for Newell’s as a kid, going to the matches with my dad, my brothers, friends… after that; circumstances in life took me elsewhere, but I still have that in mind.”

“It’s such a crazy experience, I don’t wish it on anyone. My road to recovery has been one of grace and I’m thankful for it all. God has really just done the most’.
“Thank you all for the prayers, the lovely messages, they kept me going.
“I know a lot of people are scared of surgery and most importantly scared of getting surgery of any kind done back home in Nigeria.
“I was one of them, It took me years to brave up, I managed and managed and things were not getting better, I’ll meet with my doctor, schedule an appointment and run away.”
President Buhari while delivering his democracy speech today, said that statics have shown that Nigerians now have lesser use of their generators because of the improved supply of electricity.
He said:
“In the area of power generation, Nigerians from all parts of the country continue to report better power supply and less use of generators.”
“This underscores the effectiveness of the methodical plan to deliver incremental and uninterrupted power supply to our homes, markets, offices and factories.”
“The country achieved 5,222.3 MW representing the highest peak of power generated onto the national grid and delivered to customers in December, 2017. With new facilities, repairs and rehabilitations by government and private investors, generation capability now exceeds 7,500 MW,”
President Buhari has revealed that the staggering sum of over N500billion has been recovered by his administration thanks to the success of the whistle blower policy.
He said this during his Democracy Day speech which aired at 7:00 a.m. Tuesday.
The president’s claim however contradicts those of his finance minister, Kemi Adeosun and anti corruption chief, Ibrahim Magu. As at the end of March, Kemi Adeosun gave N7.8 billion, $378 million and £27,800 as the total recovered through whistle-blowing tips. A total of N143billion.
In November 2017, Mr Magu said the EFCC recovered N739 billion in two years. Earlier this year, he said his agency recovered N511 billion in 2017 alone. A media strategist for the APC, Ayo Akanji however says there is no conflict in the figures recovered. He said: “The Ministry of Finance and the EFCC have been making separate recoveries, but there will be reconciliation soon.”

Former Nigerian Idol contestant and US based Nigerian performer, Adeniji Jemiriye has faulted “THIS IS NIGERIA”, the currently trending new video by Nigerian rapper Falz.
Jemiriye believes that the continue chanting of “THIS IS NIGERIA, EVERYBODY IS A CRIMINAL” is an insult on the hardworking innocent Nigerians out there.
According to the songstress, if Falz believes that every Nigerian is a criminal, then so is his father, Femi Falana; he’s simply saying his own father who has worked so hard as a lawyer is a criminal.
Below is how Jemiriye shared it on her Facebook page…
“This Is Nigeria, Everybody Is Not a Criminal
This is certainly not the truth that Nigerian youths want to hear now, but the trending song “This Is Nigeria”, by Nigerian rapper, FalzThaBahdGuy, which is a cover of the song “This Is America” by US rapper, Childish Gambino, is a colossal disservice to the millions of innocent Nigerians home and abroad working hard everyday and making this country proud.
Interestingly Falz has always attacked “Yahooboys” for bringing Nigeria’s name to disrepute, but what is the difference between “Yahoo boys” and Falz who just released a song chanting “Every Nigerian Is A Criminal” which is now being reposted on different social media by popular celebrities with millions of followers including American music mogul, Diddy who has more than 10million active followers on instagram?
Is this song not a weapon of mass destruction to our collective image laundry efforts on this country? As at the time of writing this, “This Is Nigeria…Everybody Is A Criminal” has been viewed by over a million people globally on Falz’s YouTube page alone just 5 days after its release; not to talk of the different instagram pages and YouTube pages it has been shared on. Granted, Nigeria, just like every other countries in the world has a prevalence of crimes of all manners, and we all know that the international media has not even helped the Nigerian and African situation, with their focus on the negative aspects, but doing such a song is a massive dent on the already tainted image of this country.
We are in an era when innocent Nigerians are being denied Visas because of the sins of the many others, Nigerians in the diaspora not finding it easy to transact businesses with their foreign counterparts and so many other challenges attached to being called a Nigerian, but rather than play his part in changing the conversation, Falz decided to rubbish all of us just because he wants to make a new hit song; and that is extremely disappointing coming from a supposedly learned person. It’s worse than Idris Abdul Kareem’s “Jaga Jaga” which never even insulted hardworking Nigerians anyway, yet intelligently highlights the challenges in the country. Now, i dont know about the millions of youths currently hailing the rapper for “a job well done”, however, i abeg to excuse myself that i am not a criminal. “I deserve some accolades, because i have paid my dues” in the words of actor Charles Okocha.
We’re here day in day out trying to make the world see Africa in a better light. Look at the incident in Paris on Saturday, the guy from Mali. That’s an African! Look at Nigerians doing us proud both home and abroad. All over the US, Nigerians dominate the universities as lecturers, same as in the health sectors. With my music, i have personally promoted Nigeria’s image widely in the US selling Nigeria and Africa to them, which earned me the spot of the first African artiste to perform the baseball anthem to a stadium full of spectators, proudly rocking my Gele. I have been able to meet many world dignitaries and speak to them more about the beauty of Nigeria and the people and they always show so much interest in learning about this great country. I, including many other Nigerians in the diaspora continually make sacrifices to change negative opinions of foreigners about this country, even as some people change their names, skin color or even jostle to have mixed baby. We have stayed true to this country…And someone is somewhere saying we are all criminals?
However, what i know for sure is that this table that Falz is shaking has his highly revered dad, Femi Falana on it. And I wonder how he feels about his son saying he is a criminal after all his years of hardwork in the legal profession?
The rest of the world may continue to inflict injuries on us, but it will be a great injustice if we continue rub salt on the injuries ourselves.
Even Childish Gambino who owns the original song remixed by Falz never called Americans such derogatory name, while campaigning against the system.
As a popular Yoruba adage says, only a bastard points to his father’s house with a left hand.
I repeat, this is Nigeria everybody is not a criminal. My name is Jemiriye.
Jude Okoye, the former manager and elder brother of the defunct Psquare duo has been slammed by fans after congratulating Wizkid on the success of his recently concluded concert.
Jude got a numerous amount of attacks on social media from Psquare fans who have refused to let go of the fact that the twins could have been one of the performers at the show.
While some blamed him as the sole cause of their split, others almost had a pound of his flesh for his inability to reconcile his own brothers.
Davido’s girlfriend, Chioma seems to be getting more in touch with her social media self as recently, we’ve been seeing her in some social media funks.
The lovely who clapped back at a troll who said she abandoned her cooking hobby because she’s got an ‘assurance’, has said she looks like Ghanaian actress, Jackie Appiah.
After one of Jackie Appiah’s fans commented on her page that if she puts her face in certain way, she looks like Chioma, the latter affirmed that she’s thought about that too.
The fan wrote, With your head bent downwards you and Davido’s chime has got a little resemblance @jackieappiah
And Chioma affirmed that she’s also given the thought, @efya_baxter I just said the same thing

This comes days after controversial journalist, Kemi Olunloyo begged him for money. So could his recent action be a sign of her that he’d be keeping his money to himself?
In his reply to her the de-facto Gucci ambassador wrote:
“It was brought to my attention the posts of one of the great journalists of Nigeria which I have carefully gone through and I must note that I never made mention of Madam Kemi Oluloyo’s name in my video that I made at the airport lounge, where I gave a general observation as to how the rich tend to mind their business and suggested if we were all doing same, maybe Linda Ikeji’s fruit of the womb just wouldn’t be a problem as people are making it.
“I do Appreciate madam Oluloyo’s taste in my fashion and as well Appreciate her works, just like most of her writes up often carries constructive criticism and lash back ,
“I believe it is safe to say her request to beat Linda’s 100k donation which I could have said was from a sarcastic point there after accompanied with a bank details puts me in a dicey position.
“I wouldn’t consider it a wise move crediting the account of a woman that just openly lambasted a fellow female benefactor that was there for her when it mattered regardless of how little the amount now seem to her after her ordeal.
“Before my money becomes blood money in future, maybe I should reconsider the alert part plus Aunty Kemi herself would have called such a person an Ingrate.
“Besides I had my fair share of experience from Mr Jollof in the past, when my act of kindness became a public show as to how he doesn’t need my dime and I should Chanel it on more philanthropical use.
“Let there be one LOVE. Linda and Madam Oluloyo as females are in a better position to understand that precious Grace of the fruit of the womb and should share the female joy as ONE… let Peace Reign. STAND Together, support each other in the Good and bad.. all we need is One love.
“I urge madam Oluloyo to write an apology and appreciation letter to Linda openly as we all see you as a role model and a great example of women empowering women for our younger females in the nation to become better people and learn to appreciate each other in our nation.
“If this is done I promise to give all necessary support and provisions in my power to you ma to get better health care and treatment. God bless us all.”
A woman, Teresiah Mumbi, has threatened to sue two police officers from Nairobi, Kenya, after they allegedly forced her to undress to confirm her gender because she has a beard.
Mumbi, 31, revealed that she was stripped on May 15 after being arrested for a traffic offence, reports Myjoyonline.
Speaking on Friday at KTN Television, the woman said two unidentified female officers demanded to confirm whether she was a man or a woman.
“Those two female officers came and demanded that I undress and I put my legs apart. After they were satisfied they let me back to the cell,” Mumbi said.
Mumbi said she stopped shaving her beard because the beard became very itchy every time she did.
“I even stopped working. I do not want another incident like that,” she said.
“Is this justice? If these are the officers mandated to provide security, what will happen to me in public?” Mumbi asked.
Huruma OCPD Alice Kimeli is yet to confirm the claims by Mumbi as she said she was in a meeting when contacted.
