Robbers kill final year UNICAL student (Photos)

Joseph Ita Archibong, a 21 year old final year student of University of Calabar(UNICAL), has been killed by armed robbers during an attack on the family in Calabar.

The incident reportedly occurred at 22 Duncan Street in Calabar –South LGA at about 2:am, penultimate Wednesday, when a three man gang broke into the compound of their victim with the aim of robbing them.

According to a family source: “Joseph did not know that one person was behind him because he tried to stop them while they were about leaving. The armed robber behind shot him as he was trying to struggle with the masked one.

Vanguard reports that he died four days after because he was shot with a locally made gun, the family didn’t know that the hospital would not be able to help, if we knew we would have gone traditional to remove those bullets because they were pellet.”

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Irene Ugbo, confirmed the incident, adding that three people have been arrested in connection to the robbery and murder.

A lady has been sacked over the recently concluded Big Brother Naija show.

She worked with a Private Medical Laboratory and has now been shown the exit door.

The executive director of Motherwell Diagnostics in Asaba, Delta State identified as Emmanuel Akpowhe sanctioned her sack on the 30th of April, 2018 for tuning the office TV to the event channel showing the Big Brother Naija reality show.

A family friend of the lady in question shared the sack letter of the lady in question with the media.

According to the family friend, the lady is innocent of the allegations levelled against her.

“Despite the rules in the office prohibiting the tuning of the DSTV in the office to the channel hosting the Big Brother Naija programme, you have repeatedly tuned to it and watched the programme.

Casualties recorded as twin blasts hit mosque and market in Adamawa (Graphic Photos)

Many people are feared dead following bomb blasts in Mubi town, Adamawa, State.

The chairman of Mubi North Local Government, Alhaji Musa Bello, said the blasts occurred around 1 30 pm.

A resident of Mubi said the two explosions occurred in a mosque and a second hand clothes market. The mosque explosion was reportedly carried out by a teenage boy.

Mubi is a town in Adamawa North Senatorial Districts in Adamawa state, Northeast, Nigeria. The major tribes of the town are: Gude Nzanyi and Fali, with Fulani, Marghi, Higgi and Mundang as minority.

The Adamawa Commissioner of Police, Mr Abdullahi Yerim, confirmed that two male suicide bombers were involved in Tuesday’s twin bomb attacks in Mubi town.

“The first blast was in a mosque while the second suicide bomber detonated outside the area when people around were rushing to escape,” Yerima said. The commissioner said so far, information reaching him indicated that about 20 people were seriously injured, and had been taken to the Mubi General Hospital. “I am yet to get the details of death for now,” Yerima said.

The blast was coming after the one that occurred in a Mosque in November in Mubi last year that claimed about 50 lives.

Both artistes took to their Instagram page recently, to announce the reunion tour.

Dbanj in reply on his Instagram page wrote, “@Donjazzy, are they ready?”

However, the dates and venues of the tour have not been disclosed yet.

If and when the tour eventually holds, it will be the second time the crew will be reuniting since their split.

DAILY POST recalls that the Mo’hits crew were reunited at Davido’s 30 billion concert in December.

Nigeria bans production & importation of codeine containing syrups

The Federal Ministry of Health has directed the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to ban with immediate effect further issuance of permits for the importation of codeine as active pharmaceutical ingredient for cough preparations.

The Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole made this known in his office in Abuja on Tuesday, May 1, 2018.

He said that the directive became necessary due to the gross abuse codeine usage has been subjected to in the country, especially in Northern Nigeria.

In its stead, the minister said codeine containing cough syrups should be replaced with dextromethorphan which is less addictive.

He also directed the Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria, (PCN) and NAFDAC to supervise the recall for labelling and audit trailing of all codeine containing cough syrups in the country, while he has also banned sales of Codeine containing cough syrup without prescription across the country.

He noted that the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control had an emergency meeting with the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Group (PMGMAN) to inform them that there is an embargo on all new applications for registration of codeine- containing cough syrups as well as applications for renewal has been abolished.

The PCN has been directed to continue enforcement activities on pharmacies, patent and proprietary medicine vendors’ shops and outlets throughout the country.

An official of the Nigerian Police Force identified as Julius Adewale Adedeji, who is said to have never taken a bribe before, has been celebrated by BBC as Nigeria’s ‘most dedicated police officer’.

While speaking in an interview following the recognition by the international media organization, he said; “I was just performing my duty. I didn’t know I was being watched. I thank God that it’s recognized and I feel like putting my best more and more.

“A copy of the letter was delivered to my office for my information, when I read through it, I was wondering could it be true? I read through the letter and I saw that it said, they wanted an institution where they can name and shame those that are not doing well and encourage the people that are doing well within the Nigerian police force, I felt so great.”

When as asked he has been offered money, thinking maybe he might be asking for bribe, he said; “Absolutely. And even today a person offered to give me some money and I said “no,no,no,no why would you do that, I’m just doing my work. They were surprised.”

When asked he is not tempted to take bribe as synonymous with many policemen around the country, he said; “Of course, there’s no way one would not once in a while be tempted, but I just want to do what is right.”

On his colleagues in the Police force who are in the habit of taking bribes, he said; “Of course, there are bad eggs everywhere in every profession you can find, but there are quite a large number of people that are actually doing well within the Nigerian police force.

“And I know in my little space where I work, I’ve seen people who are going the wrong way. We’ve talked to them and told them you don’t have to do this and God will find a way to bless you when you’re doing what is right.”

Rapid Response Service Commander, Tunji Disu has revealed that Nigerians might land themselves in jail if they are caught with ‘U.K used Phones’ outside Nigeria.

Disu revealed that these phones may have been flagged off for criminal activities and such phones were rampant in Lagos.

He tweeted ;
You may go to jail if you take your “London used phones” (second hand phones) to Uk, US, Germany, South Africa, etc, as most of the “London used phones” have been flagged off as #robbed, #stolen or been used for #fraud. We confirm recoveries of such phones in Lagos. Be warned!
