“I was still a mechanic when Sydney Talker messaged me” – Khaid opens up on early struggles

Nigerian singer and rapper, Sulaimon Shekoni Solomon, professionally known as Khaid, has recounted his struggles growing up with a tailor father and mother who was a teacher.

He mentioned that he was raised in a household of ten, consisting of his parents, eight siblings, and himself. He also disclosed that he was still working as a hustler mechanic when he had his big break with Sydney Talker.

He added that he didn’t finish his education after graduating from high school because he was terrified of writing the JAMB and didn’t want to attend university.

Khaid did point out that he had worked as a mechanic, painter, and barber while hustling after high school.

Khaid said; “I grew up in a family of eight kids. My dad was a tailor and my mum was a teacher as well as a hairstylist. I grew up in the Ojo area of Lagos State. My primary and secondary education was at Ola Greater Tomorrow School, Ojo. I started singing when I was in secondary school after which I dabbled in different street hustles. I was once a mechanic, painter and a barber.

I was influenced to do music from a very young age because my parents were music lovers. My dad loved fuji music and my mum listened to Michael Jackson. From constantly listening to Michael Jackson, I got exposed to more foreign music. That was where my love for trap music grew and I started making trap songs.”

I was still a mechanic then when Sydney Talker sent me a message on Instagram. When I saw that he followed me and ‘liked’ some of my posts, I thought it was a fake account.

So, I did not bother to check it out. When I eventually checked it, I wanted to send him a message to thank him for following me. But I realised he already texted me. We kept talking until one day, I just told him I was in Lagos Island and asked if I could come see him. I went to his house and I came up with about six songs. After a freestyle session, I later got signed and we did the paperwork.”

Speaking on his plans to complete his education, Khaid said; “I still have plans to go to university. Immediately after I left secondary school, I did not want to go to university because I was scared of writing the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination. Also, I was a mechanic at the time up until I got signed to a record label.”

“Women are not meant to compete with men” – Tolanibaj distances self from feminism

Big Brother Naija star and disc jockey, Tolani Shobajo better known as Tolanibaj, has stirred reactions online after she revealed her stance on feminism.

Tolani revealed that she disagreed with feminism’s principles because she believed that women should not compete with men.

She shared this in an interview with nightlife king, Yhemo Lee on a recent edition of the podcast Bahd and Boujee, co-hosted by Moet Abebe.

According to Tolanibaj, who believes that the genders are not equal, the woman’s role is to enhance the man, not to compete with him.

The former Big Brother Naija housemate stated that because of the aforementioned reasons, she is unable to identify as a feminist.

“I feel like women are not supposed to compete with men, they are just supposed to complement them. That’s why I can’t say I am a feminist because I don’t see how if a man is doing gra gra, as a woman I should be doing gra gra too”

“Ambitious women work twice as hard to prove ourselves” – Uche Jombo

Popular Nollywood actress Uche Jombohas stated that ambitious women put in almost twice as much work to achieve and reach the top of a sector dominated by men.

In an interview with Saturday Beats, she discussed the difficulties faced by women who want to succeed as trailblazers and stay relevant in their field.

The filmmaker claims that whereas many of her male colleagues who began their careers earlier than her have moved on to other pursuits, she is still putting in long hours into filmmaking.

She said,

“Women are very serious-minded people. I remember when I started producing movies, there were a lot of my male colleagues who started producing at the same time.

Some of them started doing other things and are no longer interested in filmmaking as of today. But I am still here toughening things out. In essence, when women put their minds to something, they do it because normally, women would work twice as hard to prove themselves.”

She explained that it can be traced back to Nollywood’s early days when asked why women in the industry need to put in extra effort to show their worth.

The actress noted that because the profession was formerly a boys’ club, it took a while for men to respect and accept her because she was a woman.

She explained, “When Nollywood started, it was a boys club. As a woman coming to produce your film, it takes a while to be taken seriously. I think the film that made people take me seriously was ‘Damaged’. But I had done three films before ‘Damaged’ as an executive producer and producer. That film did well. It was an advocacy film.”

OAU student who was assaulted by a lecturer shares his story on what lead to the assault (video)

A student of Obafemi Awolowo University, who was assaulted by one of the university’s lecturers, Dr. Ariyo, has shared his own side of the story.

Recall that a video of a male student being assaulted by a lecturer was shared online recently. The student involved in the viral video has now spoken up about the issue.

The 200-level student, whose name is Gift, took to the microblogging platform X to share what transpired while debunking the rumors surrounding the story.

He wrote,

“What really happened was that I had an 8:00am class which was Supposed to hold at that lecture theatre, on reaching the lecture theatre, I opened the door and stepped in and as soon as I realized that it wasn’t my class cause I didn’t see any familiar faces, I stepped out immediately. I was already on my way down the stairs when a student
Called me back and said the lecturer was calling me, I answered and entered the lecture room. The lecturer (Dr. F.K Ariyo) in his exact words asked, “why are you in my class and who are you impersonating?”, the students in the class laughed as he said this, me also thinking it
Was a joke and wondering how a 200L student would come to impersonate a 400L student laughed and replied “I’m not impersonating anyone sir I just stepped into your class and realized it was the wrong class and i stepped out immediately”, he said I was lying and insisted that I
Came to impersonate someone. He said he was going to arrest me and take me to the school CSO and sent a student to call the security for me. While the student was at that, he asked “why do you have this type of hair?” And I replied saying “this is my natural hair” and he said I was
Lying because men don’t come with this type of hair, I didn’t argue because it’s not the first time someone is saying it’s not my real hair. He asked for my ID card which I immediately gave him, at this time, the security was already there, he gave the security man my ID card and
Told him to take me away. I immediately tried to make a call to my brother who is also a student or my mum to inform them about what was happening and that they might not be able to reach me cause I’d be at the security’s post. He then said I shouldn’t call anyone and switch off
The phone and hand it over, I said I couldn’t hand over my phone because I didn’t know my offence and I just wanted to know what I did wrong. The security man began to drag me by my trousers, I told him to leave me alone but he kept dragging me, Dr. Ariyo then took it up from the
Security and tried to forcefully collect my phone. In the process, he strangled my neck to the wall, broke my phone screen, broke my right index finger, tore my trousers and after collecting the phone punched me in the back of my head, the security man then dragged me out by my
Trousers aggressively while I was screaming and asking, “what have I done?”, “why are you dragging me like a thief?”
This is what really went down yesterday. I’m not his student and I wasn’t impersonating anyone”

Darius Jackson reacts after Keke Palmer filed a restraining order against him, seeks full custody of their son

American actress and singer Keke Palmer has filed a restraining order against her baby daddy Darius Jackson and requests full custody of their 8-month-old son.

According to Keke, she is filing a restraining order on the grounds of abuse, which includes physical violence and destruction of property.

Keke, who is 30, mentioned that she and Darius, who is 29, had broken up in early October after being together for two years due to the physical and emotional abuse he inflicted on her.

The Nickelodeon star claimed that she has security footage recorded by a CCTV camera in her house from November 5th, where Darius “trespassed into her home without her knowledge or consent” and “threatened” her before “lunging for her neck, striking her, throwing her over the couch, and stealing her phone.”

She went on to add that there have been many instances of physical violence with Darius which includes “destroying her personal property, including diaries and prescription eyeglasses, throwing her belongings into the street, throwing her car keys to prevent her from driving away, hitting [her] in front of our son, spewing profanities about her to their son, threatening to kill himself with a gun if she left him, harassment, and other physical and emotional abuse

According to her she wants him to complete a 52-week batterer intervention program.

Adding that “It is because of our son, Leo, that I was finally able to end my relationship with Darius once and for all and escape the abuse,” she wrote. “Leo is the most important thing in the entire world to me; he needs and deserves to be safe and grow up in an environment free from violence. Unfortunately, ending my relationship with Darius has not ended his abuse — if anything, he is even more unhinged, volatile and dangerous to both me and our son.”

After she filed, Darius shared a picture of himself and their child on the microblogging platform X with the caption, “I love you, son. See you soon.”

“My polygamous nature isn’t because of the industry I’m in. Ever since I was a young boy, I used to question everything. I’d ask why it has to be one man and one woman. Since then, I’ve always wanted to explore different routes. I don’t want to say fantasies.”

“Nigerian artistes are losing the creative sauce” – Pheelz

Nigerian producer and singer, Phillip Kayode Moses, professionally known as Pheelz, has opined that Nigerian artistes are becoming repetitive in their style of music.

According to him, musicians are losing their true love for what they do and seem to be losing their creative soul.

While appearing on a segment of ‘The Dadaboy Show’, which was presented by media personality Ehiz, Pheelz discussed his insights.

Pheelz claims that contemporary Nigerian musicians are less engaged in the creative process and more focused on the lucrative music industry.

He bemoaned the lack of distinction between artists, business owners, and manufacturers.

He, however, warned that marketing strategies are fleeting, as he emphasized that only good music will stand the test of time.

Pheelz said;

“We [Nigerian artistse] are losing that love for music. It’s starting to become manufacturing. It’s starting to feel like we’re manufacturing soaps like we are making iPhones.

It’s starting to feel repetitive like we’re losing our creative sauce and our creative essence. It’s becoming work. Now, it’s harder to promote than to even make the music. Now, it’s becoming about promotion and marketing, not even about the art of it.

I don’t know about anybody else but for me, it’s about the music. I think that’s the most important thing. That’s the one thing that will stand the test of time. Marketing strategies will come and go. We shouldn’t be really focused on that. The way we market music now was not the same way we used to market music.

When people say stuff like, ‘It doesn’t even matter if the music sounds good, if you no get money to push am e no go blow.’ That kind of thing hurts me. I’m like, then what are we doing? If we don’t really exalt good music anymore and we just follow clout and hype what are we doing? Are we really making music then?”

“You will become a billionaire if you pay your tithe” – Evangelist (Video)

A Nigerian pastor has stirred controversy on social media after his sermon, which connected wealth accumulation to paying tithes.

During a church service, he promised that anybody who sows seeds and pays their tithe will undoubtedly become a billionaire.

In his words,

“If you’re not paying your tithe, you’re a thief and you have robbed God. You sow seed and you pay your tithe.

That power of tithe will come, the power of the seed will join together and you become a billionaire. People would be coming to borrow money from your hand. People would be crying but it’s not for you.”
