Independent People of Biafra, IPOB’s leader, Nnamdi Kanu, in a new interview with Deutche Welle Africa, says there would be no election in the South East unless the federal government conducts a referendum on Biafra.
Kanu during the week told members of his group that there would be no election in the South East, starting with Anambra state, unless the Federal government agrees to its call for a referendum on Biafra.
Speaking in the interview, Kanu is quoted as saying:
“There will be no election in Biafra land. No more elections. They can put whoever they like in office, they can do whatever they like with their political positions but we will not engage in any political process”.
Making reference to the various attacks by herdsmen, Kanu said although the Biafran agitation is a peaceful one, they would require arms and ammunition for self defense.
“I am sure you have heard about the Fulani herdsmen killing people all over the place. So how do you intend to defend yourself against the Fulani people who have guns and bullets. They have been killing our people, raping our women, destroying crops in the farms. No one has done anything about it. Is that how human beings are supposed to live? Self defense is recognized even by the laws in the UN. We have the right. If someone were to barge into this interview and is wielding a machete or an AK 47, are you suggesting we should let them get away with it”.
Kanu described Nigeria as an uncivilized country. He said he was not treated fairly by the Nigerian judicial system.
“I was not treated fairly. Nigeria is not a civilized country. People behave like animals. They are not reasonable enough. They are not disciplined. They are not mentally developed enough to run a transparent civil society They have a fiddle mindset where you have the ruling class and a multitude of poverty stricken who never utter any word in rebellion or to even ask questions about their plight. That is one thing we are determined to challenge”.
When asked how he feels using such words to describe Nigerians, Kanu said:
“I am being very kind to be honest. I could have used far more harsh words to describe them. I am being very kind. Perhaps there are a few good people among them but as a collective, it is a complete mess and you can see for yourself. You look through the road, you see how horrible they are. Don’t you see how unkempt everywhere is? How filthy and dirty everywhere is? That is the product of a Nigerian system that is uniquely backwards even by the very third world standards of black Africa”.
According to Kanu, Biafra existed before the British came into Nigeria

According to reports by CKN Nigerian, the veteran actor reportedly died after a brief illness.
His death is coming after Nollywood lost one of its own Veteran Actress, Moji Olaiya, who died in Canada few months after she gave birth.
It is still unclear what ailed the actor, but details from CKN Nigeria claims his death has been confirmed by the former President of Actors Guild of Nigeria, Mr Segun Arinze.

Photos of A baby girl captured inside the hospital who was born in India with four arms, two torsos and four legs have gone viral on social media.
The severely deformed baby lying on a bed hooked up to machine died shortly after her birth on Friday.
The baby was rushed to an intensive care unit after her condition started deteriorating.
The medical practitioner, Dr Mukesh Kumar, who helped with the delivery, said the child couldn’t be saved because it was not fully developed.
He said:
“This is called congenital deformity. The fetus didn’t grow properly in the womb due some reasons. The was plagued by an extremely rare condition where a conjoined twin did not fully form.
“Instead of growing a separate body, the other undeveloped baby’s limbs absorbed into his as a result of polymelia.
“The rare disorder occurs in the womb when the cells form abnormally during embryonic development.”
People queued outside the hospital in Lakhisarai, Bihar, just to see the baby after news spread about her birth.
The deformed baby’s mother, identified as Savita Devi said, she was in shock after losing her newborn and added that whatever happened, happened for good.
She said:
“I think whatever happened it happened for good. If my baby lived on with these deformed, every day of his life would have been like death.”
Her husband, Suresh Saw, who is a farmer said they took every care during the pregnancy and added that destiny had different plans for them.
He said:
“We took every care during the pregnancy. We were hoping to welcome an able-bodied baby.
But destiny had different plans – this time it was a cruel one. We were gifted with a deformed baby.
” I didn’t know whether to be happy or feel sorry for the poor kid.
“God must have cursed us for some sin, we committed in our previous life.”
Following the exposure of planned attacks, Soldiers were used to protect Muslims as they offer prayers at various Eid praying ground in the North.

Catholic Illinois Bishop, Thomas Paprocki, has issued a decree asking priests to deny gay people several religious offerings like the holy communion.
He apparently disagrees with Pope Francis even though he repeatedly said he believes in treating gay people with dignity and compassion.
The decree, which isn’t public yet but was sent to staff, instructed priests not to give gay couples communion or their last rites until they repent for their relationship.
He also said that church property can’t be used for same-sex marriages and that no person in a gay relationship can become part of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, a program that allows adults convert to Catholicism and be baptized.
Paprocki, who is a bishop of the Catholic Diocese in Springfield, IL, says he is not backing down from the decree.
He said
“These norms are necessary in light of changes in the law and in our culture regarding these issues”.
However, one Reverend James Martin took to his Facebook account to disagree with him
He wrote:
“If bishops ban members of same-sex marriages from receiving a Catholic funeral, they also have to be consistent. They must also ban divorced and remarried Catholics who have not received annulments, women who has or man who fathers a child out of wedlock, members of straight couples who are living together before marriage, and anyone using birth control. For those are all against church teaching as well.”
Last night, suicide bombers detonated their explosives at different locations including the security office in the University of Maiduguri.
About two lives were reportedly lost in the disastrous attack.
The incident was confirmed by the Borno State Public Relations Officer, Victor Isukwu, at about 12 midnight on a WhatsApp platform managed by his office, but he did not give full details of casualties recorded.
He said:
“Let’s not speculate yet”, he cautioned reporters.
“At Unimaid only one male suicide bomber died; three university security personnel injured among which one later died.”
A professor in the Mass Communications department of the university who also doubles as the spokesperson of the institution, Danjuma Gambo, confirmed in a BBC Hausa broadcast early this morning that three suicide attacks took place in the university last night.
Residents of Maiduguri who celebrated a hitch-free Sallah could not go to sleep on Sunday night as sounds of bombings and shootings rented most part of the night and early hours of the dawn.
The city vibrated with the first blast, which occurred at about 10:15 p.m. Immediately after it was confirmed that it was from the university campus, another explosion occurred at exactly 11 p.m.
It has not been confirmed if the second blast which seemed bigger recorded any casualty, but it was followed by hours of shootings and sounds of military vehicular movements.
The university has become one of the major targets of the Boko Haram since it came under its first direct attack on January 16.
About four suicide attacks have been executed within and around the university since then.
One of the attacks led to the death of a renowned professor of veterinary medicine, who died alongside few others during the first attack.
The University of Maiduguri lies at the outskirts of the host city along the route that leads to Bama from Maiduguri.
The institution is about 45km from Kawuri town where the official entrance gate to Sambisa forest is located.
Aside the brick perimeter fence on the front side of the university, there has been no serious barrier at the back, which appears to have provided an entry point for the insurgents.

A Newly employed staff of a popular hotel has been arrested for allegedly stealing two laptops barely 24 hours after he was employed.
The 29-year-old was said to have visited the hotel in the early hours of Friday, June 23, in a bid to seek for employment, and was he employed by the management of the hotel on the spot after serious plea.
After closing from work later that night, two laptops were reported missing and investigations revealed that the newly employed staff had made away with the company’s properties.
He was then handed over to the police after he was arrested by the Hotel security guards at white sand stadium, idera ilu.
The hotel manager said:
“The man came to seek for a job In hotel and just after the night when we have closed, He went away with this two laptops”.
A corpse of an unidentified young lady suspected to have been murdered by some unknown assassins have been found in a street corner in Ikotun, a suburb of Lagos.
It was gathered that the corpse was found by the residents on Saturday morning at Adedayo Adedeji Street by Church Bus stop in Abaranje area of the community.
When P.M.EXPRESS visited the scene later Saturday, the corpse was still lying at the spot where she was dumped with no sign that the authority has been informed for the evacuation of the body.
The identity of the deceased could not be ascertained as some residents told our correspondent that the lady was not living in the area because her face was unknown.
It was learnt that the lady might have visited the area for an undisclosed mission before she might have been killed and dumped there.
The residents said they woke up in the morning only to find the corpse which was still fresh.
Some other residents told P.M.EXPRESS there was a popular hotel few meters from where the corpse was found that has many young girls troop there for weekend runs.
They suspect the deceased might be one of them.
When our correspondent contacted the Ikotun Divisional Police Officer, DPO, he promised to dispatched his men to the scene to carry the corpse and deposited it at a mortuary for autopsy report.
As at the time our correspondent left the scene, the victim has not been identified and her corpse was still lying there.
