The Federal Government has said on Wednesday it had released about N375.8 million for payment of 20 whistleblowers who provided information that led to the recovery over N11.6 billion.
This information was disclosed in a statement by the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, revealing that the payments are the first under the country’s Whistleblower Policy, which entitles a whistleblower to a minimum of five percent of the money involved in the corruption case reported by the individual.
“The payment underscores the commitment of the President Muhmmadu Buhari-led administration to meet its obligations to information providers under the Whistleblower Policy, which is an essential tool in the fight against corruption,” the statement read.
The identities of the individuals involved were not revealed, for security reasons especially to protect the identities of information providers from retaliation.

Following her release from a Port-Harcourt jail where she spent about three months, Controversial media personality, Madam Kemi Olunloyo has picked up a new day job.
The self acclaimed Journalist announced in a press conference today that she has become a political activist as she can no longer perform her duties as a journalist because the federal government seized her travel passport.
She also revealed that she would be testifying at the Senate on press freedom at an undisclosed date.

Residents of Gombe street, Wadata, Makurdi were thrown into sorrow, yesterday after a three-year-old boy, Daniel Chidi was electrocuted to death.

A Facebook User, Tee Edwards took to his page to share a long post which has gone viral on social media explaining why he does not help his wife at home.
He revealed his reasons, starting with the story of an encounter he had with a friend who complained his wife never shows appreciation whenever he helps in his own home.
He wrote:
I do not help my wife.
A friend came to my house for coffee, we sat and talked about life. At some point in the conversation, I said, “I’m going to wash the dishes and I’ll be right back.”
He looked at me as if I had told him I was going to build a space rocket. Then he said to me with admiration but a little perplexed: “I’m glad you help your wife, I do not help because when I do, my wife does not praise me. Last week I washed the floor and no thanks.”
I went back to sit with him and explained that I did not “help” my wife. Actually, my wife does not need help, she needs a partner. I am a partner at home and through that society are divided functions, but it is not a “help” to do household chores.
I do not help my wife clean the house because I live here too and I need to clean it too.
I do not help my wife to cook because I also want to eat and I need to cook too.
I do not help my wife wash the dishes after eating because I also use those dishes.
I do not help my wife with her children because they are also my children and my job is to be a father.

Mr. Matthews Emberga-Biem was brutally beaten by soldiers stationed in Benue State for allegedly refusing to help them fetch water from a stream.

Naka town is the headquarter of Gwer-west L.GA in Benue State, about 40 km from Makurdi, the Benue State capital. There is a military post as you are about to enter the town from Makurdi. Soldiers became stationed there in 2014 when armed Fulani herdsmen blocked the Makurdi – Naka road for several months, shooting and killing anybody that dared to ply the road. It was the soldiers who chased away the armed Fulani herdsmen from the road making it safe for people to pass.
However, the soldiers did not return to their barracks after retaking the road from the armed Fulani herdsmen. They stationed at a deserted primary school at Tse Orbiam village at the outskirts of Naka town along the Makurdi -Naka road.
This military post has remained to date.
Ever since their arrival, soldiers from this military post have been a serious pain in the asses of residents of Naka. All they do is assault young men. I have heard very sordid tales of how these soldiers manhandle people on a daily basis so much that it is now impossible to distinguish them from miscreants.
Their recent victim is my friend Matthews Emberga-Biem II. He teaches at Mount La Salle College Naka (my Alma mater). This morning, as was rushing to go for his morning lessons, these soldiers stopped him at a stream close to the school gate and ordered him to fetch water for them. He declined, and explained to them that he was rushing to go teach his lessons. This was enough reasons for the soldiers to beat him up so mercilessly as you can see in the attached picture.
Enough is enough. This is action cannot go unpunished.

Minister of finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, took many people by surprise on Tuesday after she announced at a gathering that the current framework for governance allowed public officers to loot the treasury.
Adeosun stated that the ease of access to public funds was the major cause of the endemic corruption in Nigeria but added that the present administration led by President Muhammadu Buhari was taking steps to address the situation.
The finance minister made the statements while chairing a showcase session with the theme “Practical steps to stopping illicit financial flows” on the second day of the conference on “Promoting International Cooperation in Combating Illicit Financial Flows and Enhancing Asset Recovery to Foster Sustainable Development.”
The conference was organised by the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC) in collaboration with the Ministries of Justice and Foreign Affairs.
Adeosun said:
“We are taking steps to improve tax administration, to improve compliance and to generally make it a little more difficult for people to loot the treasury.
“My experience from the little time I’ve spent as a minister is that it’s far too easy to do these things in Nigeria, and we’ve got to make it much more difficult.”
The Nation reports that the minister said it was better to prevent looting than to recover stolen funds, which she described as difficult.

28-year-old man, Godspower Emeka, has confessed that he sold his niece for N150,000 to raise money for his extended family’s upkeep.
The suspect who is currently in police custody in Abia State, said feeding his children and other members of his family had become burdensome to him and his father as he is a motorcyclist and father of three.
According to Southern City News, he reasoned that it would not be a bad idea if he sold one of the children in their family to raise money to feed others.
He said:
“I’m a (commercial) motorcyclist from Umuokroukwu Omoba. The little girl is my niece and my elder sister is her mother. It started when one of my friends told me that he knew one barren old woman who wanted to buy a child.
“I then said since we are many, why can’t l give out one of our children to raise money to take care of the family? I thought the idea would reduce the load of feeding in our family on my head because we are 11 in number.
“I’m married with three children, while my sister has four children. But she is not aware that I wanted to sell her daughter. I’m begging everybody to forgive me; it was a temptation that came my way. I have not done this before”.
He was arrested alongside an accomplice, Kelvin Ogbuigwu who revealed that he (Emeka) contacted him to get a buyer of the three year-old girl.
He said:
“Emeka told me that he has a sister, who is his father’s bastard daughter. He said his father was late and they could longer take care of the girl. He asked me if I had contact of someone that would adopt the girl and I told him that I had a contact.
“I contacted one Mr. Kekere in Omuma, Rivers State. Later, I took him to meet the man last week Sunday with the girl. Unfortunately, the woman, who was supposed to come and pick the girl at the sum of N150,000 couldn’t come that day. Then in the night, the police operatives came and recovered the baby.”
Reports are that, last Saturday Emeka’s sister left her daughter in the care of one of her neighbours, Mrs. Oscar Angela, while travelling.
Angela told security operatives that Emeka came to her and claimed that his elder brother sent him to bring the girl to his house before she released her to him.
She said:
“The girl is my neighbor’s child; when her mother was travelling on Saturday, last week, she left the girl under my care.
“She said she would come back on Monday, I accepted and took the girl to my house. But as soon as she left, her younger brother (Emeka) came and asked me to hand over the little girl to him.
“He claimed that their eldest brother sent him to bring the girl and I released the girl for him. But later that same day, they came back to my house to ask of the girl. I told them Emeka had taken the girl to his brother’s house.
“But they said it was not true and insisted that the girl was in my house. It was then that I started shouting and my other neighbours advised me to report the matter to the police. That was how I ran to Obehie Police Station to report the incident and they started the search for the girl immediately and rescued her at Omuma.”
The Abia State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adeleye Oyebade, explained that the command had intensified efforts towards arresting the suspected buyer of the girl, adding that suspects in police custody will be arraigned in court soon.

A 35-year-old ex-convict, identified as Anietie Okon, was on Tuesday paraded alongside 24 others by the Cross River State Police Command for attempting to a steal car battery just two days after he finished serving his seven years jail term.
Okon said he had gone to steal the battery in order to raise money to buy items for cleansing as prescribed by a church prophet in Calabar.
This came just as state command said it had recovered five AK47 rifles from an undisclosed grave at Goldie cemetery in Calabar.
Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hafiz Inuwa, said Okon was arrested on May 21 at about 9.45am for breaking into a workshop with the intention of stealing valuable properties.
He said that the victim would soon be charged to court as investigation and confession showed that he was culpable.
Corroborating the commissioner’s position, Okon said, “I had no money on me. I went to the church for deliverance but the prophet asked me to go and buy some materials for cleansing. I did not have any money, so, I went to a mechanic workshop to see if I could get money.
“I sighted a battery and wanted to take it for sale but I was caught by security operatives. That was how I found myself in the police custody again. Please I beg for mercy, I will not do it again. I actually told the church that I had no money.”
Inuwa, who also paraded 24 suspects for various offences ranging from robbery, murder to illegal possession of firearms, among others, called on residents of the state to stay off crime as the police would continue to work hard to reduce illegal activities.
Speaking on the recovered AK47 rifles, Inuwa said that other items recovered from the grave included 200 rounds of 7:62mm short ammunition and seven magazines.
The items, according to the commissioner, were recovered on May 28 by a team of policemen.
The National Bureau of Statistics has revealed that the number of Nigerians who became unemployed rose by 2.1 million to 11.55 million at the end of 2016 from 9.48 million at the beginning of the year.
The NBS stated this in its unemployment report, which was released on Monday night. The NBS report stated that the unemployment rate was highest for persons in the labour force between the ages of 15-24 and 25-34, which represents the youth population in Nigeria.
For instance, it stated that the unemployment rate was highest for those within the age bracket of 15 to 24, rising from 25 per cent to 25.2 per cent. For the 25 to 34 age group, the unemployment rate, according to the report increased from 15 per cent to 15.4 per cent.
It noted that unemployment and underemployment were higher for women than men in the fourth quarter of 2016. For instance, 16.3 per cent of women in the labour force were unemployed as of the end of the fourth quarter of 2016, according to the report.
On the other hand, it added that 12. 3 per cent of males were unemployed in the fourth quarter of last year.
The report stated,
“The economically active population increased from 108.03 million to 108.59 million; this represents a 0.5 per cent increase over the previous quarter and a 3.4 per cent increase when compared to fourth quarter 2015.
In the fourth quarter of 2016, the labour force population increased to 81.15 million from 80.67 million in the third quarter of 2016, representing an increase of 0.6 per cent in the labour force during the quarter.
This means about 482,689 persons from the economically active population entered the labour force during the quarter, that is individuals that were able, willing and actively looking for work.”

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, on Tuesday received Nigeria’s Lola Omolola, founder of a secret Facebook group called Female in Nigeria.
FIN was founded in 2015 by Omolola, a movement of women focused on building compassion and providing support for one another, with the goal of having up to 1000 members in the group.
However, the group exceeded its target as it recently hit one million members.
According to Zuckerberg’s Facebook page on Tuesday, he will be meeting with Lola and a few hundred of other top Facebook group admins in Chicago later in the month for the first ever Facebook Communities Summit.
“Over the past few weeks, I’ve been meeting group admins across the country that are building meaningful communities on Facebook and will be at the summit.
“Two years ago, she founded a secret Facebook group called Female IN, or FIN,’’ Zuckerberg said.
Zuckerberg said FIN is “a no-judgment space where more than a million women come to talk about everything from marriage and sex to health issues and work problems’’

The body of Late Nollywood Actress, Moji Olaiya has arrived Nigeria from Canada few weeks after she died in the country.
The Late 40-year-old actress died of cardiac arrest in Canada just two months after she delivered a baby.
Though, there were reports that her first daughter insisted she wanted her mothers body to be flown back to Nigeria even as she was scheduled to be buried in Canada.
Further reports also claimed that the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose failed to assist with the repatratiation of her body to Nigeria after initially making promises.
The state government however denied ever promising to sponsor the transportation of her body to Nigeria.
It was later learnt that former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu sponsored the repatriation of her body to the country.
AML has obtained a copy of the Complaint/Arrest Affidavit for Nigerian pop singer Dammy Krane and his co-defendant Chukwuebuka Gabriel Ilonchowu (“Ebuka”), an alleged U.S. promoter who allegedly hired Krane’s services to perform in the United States. The complaint explains the details of how and why the two were arrested for the alleged crimes of grand theft, credit card, and identity fraud, among other charges.
To summarize the allegations against the two, Krane and Ebuka purchased two private charter flight tickets with fraudulent credit cards to travel from Miami to Washington D.C. The CEO of the company they purchased the tickets from, Eugene Kesselman of Tap Jets Inc., was suspicious of them and contacted the police who arrived and waited for them at the airport. When the duo subsequently arrived at the airport, the police detained them and subsequently took them into custody, after an investigation.
The police say they were able to identify the duo by their legal names. Dammy Krane had his passport along with several credit cards in the front of his pant pocket. Three of the credit cards were in Krane’s name but four were in the name of a William Payton III. The duo each had a book bag and a suitcase. When the officer searched those, legitimately per the officer’s claim, they found several cell phones and laptops in the bags of the duo.
The two were read their Miranda rights after the police established there was probable cause to arrest them. The police asked if they wished to speak with an attorney. They allegedly declined by waiving their rights to counsel.
By the way, the police say in the complaint that Kesselman’s employee Stephanie Rodriguez claims that she received a call from Dammy Krane who wanted to know when his jet flight would arrive, and also whether there were issues with the credit card on file for him. The police claim that even though she knew that there was an issue, she did not want to alarm him. So she told him there was no issue. Nevertheless, he mentioned there were other card numbers he could give her to ensure there was no issue.
As it stands, both co-defendants are still in custody and have been denied bail. Dammy Krane who was set for a Nebbia Hearing today appeared in court and was denied a release on bail. He is set to be arraigned on June 23rd, 2017.
The District Attorney is also allegedly considering adding more charges against Dammy Krane.
Krane’s co-defendant, Ebuka, has a prior history of grand theft, and fraud crimes.

Popular Nollywood actor, Yomi Fash-Lanso, has taken to Instagram to share what his dad did after a Pastor told him to sow his new car into his life.
It’s quite hilarious what his dad did following the pastor’s request. Read it as Yomi shared below:
“When I was a kid, my dad bought a new car and drove us to church one Sunday. It was a prophetic service and our pastor was being used by God that day to deliver people from poverty.
Suddenly, our pastor looked at my dad and said, “Mr. Alamu, God is set to bless you” my mum jumped up and shouted excitedly, “Amen!!!” My dad was excited too.
The pastor then came closer, placed his hand on my dad’s head and prayed for him. As our pastor turned to climb the altar, the spirit of God told him something.
He stopped, looked at my dad and said, “Mr. Alamu did you buy a new car last week?” “Yes sir” my dad responded with much surprise on his face.
Then our pastor said; God said I should tell you to sow your CAR KEY into my life”
I was shocked that my dad did not argue with the pastor, he just put his hand in his pocket, brought out the car key and gave it to our pastor.

After about 5 minutes, my dad stood up, went outside the church, he didn’t even wait till the end of the service. I could see him entering Okada going home. “He must be very worried” I reasoned in utter fear and confusion.
After a while he returned to church with the SPARE KEY of his car and drove the car back to the house. I was so stunned at what I was seeing.
So when I asked him why he acted that way he said: “Oluwayomi” always use your brain, the pastor asked for the KEY and NOT the CAR”! Thanking you so much my BABA for impacting knowledge.
