“My children will never inherit my property either dead or alive if my wife divorces me,” a 39-year-old fruit seller, Amidu Olalere, told an Igando Customary Court on Friday in Lagos.

Olalere said this while responding to a divorce suit filed by his wife, Adeola, for the dissolution of their 11-year-old marriage on the grounds of constant battering.

Olalere, who accused his wife of starving him of sex, said, “My wife is always denying me sex, and whenever I reported her to her mother, she will ask me how many times will I be having sex with her daughter.

“She would ask me not to kill her with sex, instead of admonishing her.”

The respondent said his wife moved out from his house with the children in January to stay with her mother and that whenever he called her, her mother would be raining curses on him.

“There was a day my mother-in-law cursed me, and I also cursed her that thunder will kill her.”

He said his mother-in-law was always accusing him of planning to use her daughter for ritual.

On whether the children are his, Olalere said that he doubted the paternity of the four children.

“Whenever my wife and I quarrel, she tells me that the children are not mine; so, I am confused if truly the children belong to me,’’ he said.

The husband, however, pleaded with the court not to dissolve the marriage, saying in spite of her shortcomings he still loves her.

Earlier, the wife had accused her husband of beating her on the slightest provocation.

“He once beat me to the point that I fainted and I was hospitalised for four days.

“When I was on admission, none of his family members came to see me since we all live in a family house and my husband also refused to pay the bills,” she said, urging the court to terminate the marriage.

“I am no longer interested in the marriage.”

After listening to their submissions, the judge, Mr Adegboyega Omilola, adjourned the case till July 25
for judgment.

The ongoing Muslims’ fasting month, Ramadan, is also largely taking its toll on commercial sex as most prostitutes now find it more difficult to survive.

According to the checks carried out by encomium.ng in some fun spots in certain parts of Lagos state, some of the prostitutes, otherwise known as runs girls, are not patronized at the moment. The situation has forced them to reduce their charges ridiculously.

One of the prostitutes who volunteered to speak with encomium.ng under the condition of anonymity lamented the dwindling state of the oldest trade. She added the ugly situation has demanded that they settle for any amount if only to survive as most men are now shying away from the act because of the ongoing fasting.

“Most of us you see wandering up and down find it difficult to get any offer from men now, whether short rest or lodging, irrespective of the fact that prices are cheaper now compared to what we used to charge before Ramadan. Although, things were also tough before the month started, not as bad as we experience now.

“Now, we close early. What is the essence of standing till late hours and yet, nothing to write home about. No permanent customer now. If you’re lucky to see any man now, just look for extra way of convincing him if you don’t want to sleep hungry. The economy has been terribly bad even before the fasting. That’s why we now find it more difficult to survive.”

Another commercial sex worker, Joy, also corroborated the earlier submission. She added that at times she treks home when she can’t make a dime that can even make up for her transport back home.

“This fasting has spoilt business for us as if all men patronizing us are fasting. Even, the non Muslims among them have deserted us since the fasting started. Even most of us settle for as less as N1,500 now so as not to go back home empty handed. Some times, I trek home. And the fasting has just started. That means we still have a long way to go. Coping without customers is now extremely difficult. Some of us even fight because of men now because very few men patronize us. I don’t have any other trade than ‘runs’. I pray the fasting ends, the business will pick up a little.”

Reports circulating in Ghana claims that the Founder of the International Godsway Church, Bishop Daniel Obinim has said he saw the lynching of Captain Maxwell Mahama and he made endeavors to utilize other-worldly forces to travel to help him.

But then, his Father, Jesus Christ sent him a whatsapp message and told him that he ought to allow nature happen.

Leader of the International Godsway Church, Bishop Daniel Obinim, has come out to say that he saw the lynching of Captain Maxwell Mahama and made attempts to use his angelic powers to fly to help him, however, just when he was about to fly, his father, Jesus Christ, whatsapped him to tell him that he should let it happen.

He said this in an interview with media giants, NsromaMedia. According to him, Captain Mahama’s time was due and Jesus needed him by his side in heaven. He has also revealed that the villagers who lynched him will know no peace till they die.

Hamburger has been laid to rest.

The remains of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) chieftain, Rasaq Bello, popularly known as Hamburger has been laid to rest.

According to those in the know, Hamburger was reportedly killed in Shogunle on 29th of May by members of a rival gang allegedly led by Samson Agbetoye, popularly called Golden.

The death of Hamburger who was recently installed as the Akinrogun of Shogunle, led to violent clashes in the area as cars were burnt by his supporter who also stormed the home of Golden and allegedly killed his aged mother when he was nowhere to be found.

After the disturbances which also saw the closure of the popular Ladipo Market, police were drafted in to ensure peace is returned to the area while the command has also vowed to bring the leader of the killer gang to book.

A viral story making rounds on Social Media claims a handshake with the Biafra leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu healed one of his followers of stomach pains.

A Malaysian High Court on Sunday, 28th of May sentenced a Kenyan woman to death after she was found guilty of trafficking methamphetamine four years ago.

The mother of three was arrested on November 30, 2013, at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport after arriving from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Malaysian Daily Express reports that Rose Achieng Ojala had stuffed three capsules of the drug into her private part and swallowed another 68 capsules, all weighing about 400gm.

On the day she was arrested, an Immigration officer noticed that she was behaving suspiciously during the regular luggage inspection.

While she was being searched, the immigration officer found three capsules of methamphetamine weighing more than 20g in her underwear.

The woman, who claimed she was pregnant, was later taken to the Serdang Hospital, where an X-ray examination revealed that she had swallowed 68 capsules of the drug weighing more than 380gm.

She confessed to the immigration officer that it was her boyfriend who had stuffed the capsules into her private parts before she boarded the flight.

It was also reported that the single mother who allegedly suffered from Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), had fainted before the proceedings and had to be taken into the courtroom in a wheelchair.

In convicting Ojala, the judge said the prosecution had proved the case beyond reasonable doubt.

“You are found guilty and there is no other punishment under Section 39(B) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1962 except the death sentence,” he said.

The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has called on Nigerians to stop birthing more children than they can cater for.

He spoke on Thursday when Mohammed malick Fall, the United Nations Children’s Education Fund (UNICEF) representative in Nigeria paid him a courtesy visit in Kano.

According to him about 3 million children in Kano are out of school due to ignorance of their parents on their responsibility to their children’s educational up-bringing.

“For you to have kids you must make sure that the responsibility of their education, health, and general up-bringing both morally and otherwise are part and parcel of what a parent should do.”

“It is not only giving birth to the child that matters, but how to take your responsibility as a parent to bring-up that child to grow and be a benefit to the society in general.

“if people are aware of this they will not even have many kids that they know they cannot take care of,” Sanusi said.
