Nigerians are known to be creative for a lot of things and one of which is how we manipulate languages and putting them our own taste.
You wouldn’t agree more which is more juicy to the tongue between “pidgin English” and normal “English Language”… Of course it’s pidgin! Virtually every Nigerian can speak the Pidgin English!
But hey! Not only did we produce pidgin English, my dear, we also invented our words! How cool eh?!
Don’t be surprised when you find out you’re guilty of using these words that actually don’t exist!
Check them below:
1. Installmentally
How you tell the marketer of a good that you’ll be paying the money “Installmentally”… C’mon don’t lie, you know you say it! Hehe… The word is so wrong that even my text editor is underlining it red for me!
2. Night-Vigil
When else is a vigil suppose to hold?! In the morning… Google the meaning of vigil and you’ll be shocked yourself!
3. Disvirgin
“I was “disvirgined” at the age of…” There’s even a past tense for it! What you mean to say my dear, is “deflower”, after me, De-flow-er… There you go!
4. Wake Keeping (Wake keep)
It’s just so sad that they put the blunder in some programme booklets for funerals though… “wake-keeping: Friday – 1pm”… tsk tsk tsk…
5. Cunny
Oh no! It’s not the urban word meant as a euphemism for the female body part. When Nigerians say “cunny” they mean “cunning”… Yeah well, the words are sweet in our tongues eh?!

Omu-Aran (Kwara) – A 20-year-old senior secondary school student, Moji Agboola, died on Wednesday in Omu-Aran, Kwara, after taking poison.
The deceased, an SS1 student died at Adeyemo Hospital in the town due to complications in her body system as a result of the poison.
The girl was rushed to the hospital by her mother, Abigel, about three weeks ago. The deceased was said to have taken poisonous substance after she failed her promotion examination.
“It was the deceased’s sister who first gave us the clue to her sickness before she later confessed to the act at the hospital,” Abigel said at her residence on Thursday.
The deceased was initially taken to Christ Apostolic Church, Ori-Oke Irapada, along Omu-Aran-Ilofa Road for prayers and deliverance.
The prophet in-charge of the church, Christopher Owolabi, said a prayer team was quickly organised for the deceased, before she was taken to the private hospital for treatment.
It was at the hospital that she was confirmed dead. Meanwhile, a middle-age trader, simply identified as Iya Ayo, was also rushed to Omu-Aran General Hospital on Wednesday evening, for taking substance believed to be poison.
The mother of two, who lived around Orolodo area of the town, was said to have complained severally over her husband’s inability to offset their rent arrears.
A doctor at the hospital, who preferred anonymity, said at the hospital on Thursday that the woman was responding to treatment.
National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on Tuesday arraigned a 23-year-old deaf and dumb man, Abass Hamed, for allegedly dealing in cannabis sativa, popularly called marijuana.
Hamed was arraigned before Justice Jude Dagat of a Federal High Court in Lagos where the one count levelled against him was interpreted to him by a sign language interpreter, Francis Peters.
He was accused of dealing in one kilogramme of the substance and was said to have been arrested by NDLEA operatives on February 18, 2014, along Agege Motor road, Agege, Lagos.
The NDLEA prosecutor, Mr. Jerry Aernan, told the court that the accused acted contrary to Section 11(c) of the National Drugs Laws Enforcement Agency Act Cap N30, Law of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, and was liable to be punished under the same law.
Aernan told the court that Hammed had been in custody since 2014 because the NDLEA had difficulty getting a sign language interpreter to interpret the charge to the accused in court.
When the charge was eventually read and interpreted to him on Tuesday through hand signal, Hamed signified that he understood the charge but pleaded not guilty.
He also nodded his head in denial, when asked if he sniffed the substance. Consequent upon Hamed’s not guilty plea, the prosecutor applied for an adjournment for commencement of trial.
Counsel for the accused, Mrs. O. Ozobia, did not object to the trial of her client, but urged the court to give a date for the hearing of his bail application.
Justice Dagat adjourned till November 5 and 7, 2016 for commencement of trial.
Kidnapped four pupils and two teachers of Lagos State Model College, Igbonla Epe, were ferried to safety in two speedboats by their abductors on Tuesday, it was learnt yesterday.
The victims – Abu, Emmanuel Okonkwo, Jeremiah Ruth, Isaac Adebisi – Junior School Vice Principal A. O. Oyesola and English teacher Lukman Oyerinde, were dropped off inside a forest where they trekked for over two hours before meeting their relatives.
According to The Nation, they were asked to walk in a line and not look back until they got to the point where family members had waited for over four hours.
The vice principal led the pack and the English teacher was asked to stay at the rear, leaving the pupils in-between. The victims were taken to the Epe General Hospital for check-up. Some of them were diagnosed with typhoid and malaria.
The father of one of the victims said:
“They spent many hours at the hospital and were later moved to a house in Epe where the principal addressed them.
“Two parents went to a designated place in Epe, where the kidnappers directed them to. They were at the place around 6pm and stayed there till about 10pm without any sign of the victims.
“As it was getting late, they said they were scared but had to remain there because that was the kidnappers’ instruction. So, around 10:30pm, they showed up, saying they had trekked for over two hours.
“I received the kidnap news with rude shock and since then, my family has been disorganised. I was not staying in Epe. My wife and I relocated to Epe ever since the bad news broke.
“I thank God when I was called by 10:30pm to inform me that the victims have been released. When I arrived at the school, I saw my son alive.
“I was not afraid that something sinister might happen to them because I have been praying alongside with many other sympathisers and I have the assurance that they would come out alive. God has really done it.
“Let’s not talk of ransom, I did not pay any. I don’t know whether anyone paid. I did not pay. My joy is that my son and others are hale and hearty. I want to thank the state government and the police for the roles they played while the victims were in captivity.”
Ruth’s sister who spoke on condition of anonymity said:
“We suffered hell when we went to pay N1 million for our sick child. The kidnappers after two days of playing pranks with us dropped them off in the bush and gave them a description on how to come out to the road.
“Our joy knew no bounds when we saw our children and their teachers coming out alive. I was deeply involved because our child was described as being ill, but, not as ill as we were made to believe”
Police spokesperson Dolapo Badmos, a Superintendent (SP) said they were neither assaulted nor traumatised. She stated that the medical examination carried out on the victims indicated that none of them was molested.
She said:
“They were released at about 11pm in the night. Our men from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and other units were on the ground to pick them. We would arrest the perpetrators soon. There is no hiding place for any criminal.”
Hollywood classic actress, Halle Berry has sent a powerful message to every women who have suffered any form of domestic violence – the actress, being a victim herself, revealed she was just 5 years old when she witnessed the horrific abuse of her mother by the man she was married to.
Her mom was beaten “day after day after day,” Berry said. She watched her get “kicked down stairs” and hit in the head with a wine bottle when she wasn’t looking.
“Knowing that she wanted nothing more then for her little girls to see her be empowered and be a woman of strength, but having no way to make that happen was heartbreaking for me,” Berry said.
To show support for women in that plight, Berry wrote on her IG page this morning:
My #WCW goes to all my QUEENS who have suffered any form of domestic violence. I think this quote captures it perfectly… ? “Dear women, Sometimes you’ll just be too much woman. Too smart, too beautiful, too strong. Too much of something. That makes a man feel like less of a man, which will start making you feel like you have to be less of a woman.
The biggest mistake you can make is removing jewels from your crown to make it easier for a man to carry. When this happens, I need you to understand, you do not need a smaller crown… You need a man with bigger hands.” (? @justmike_ ) #domesticviolenceawarenessmonth #domesticviolence #purplepurse ? @jenessecenter
A Federal High Court in Lagos has struck out a N1.86bn suit filed against the founder of the Living Faith Church, a.k.a. Winners’ Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo, by a stock brokerage firm, Valueline Securities and Investment Limited.
Justice Jude Dagat, in a ruling on Friday, described the plaintiffs’ suit as incompetent and dismissed it for want of jurisdiction.
Valueline Securities and Investment Limited and its Managing Director, Samuel Enyinnaya, had in February 2015 sued Oyedepo and his family for an alleged breach of contract in a N9bn stock market deal.
Joined as the 10th defendant in the suit was the Security and Exchange Commission. The plaintiffs, through their lawyer, Mr. Rickey Tarfa (SAN), sued for the enforcement of their fundamental rights and were claiming a total of N1.86bn from the defendants jointly and severally as professional fees and damages.
The plaintiffs, in their statement of claim, averred that Oyedepo, his family and organizations entered into an Investment Portfolio Management Agreement with them and appointed them as the portfolio managers to oversee and to ensure the profitability of the said investment worth about N9bn in the Nigerian Stock Exchange.
According to the plaintiffs, it was agreed that 2.25 per cent of the net asset value of the portfolio and an annual incentive fee of 10 per cent of the returns on the investment would be paid to the plaintiffs.
The plaintiffs said that in order to enhance the profitability of the investment, they obtained some margin loans from some Nigerian banks, which, they claimed, turned out to be a great boost to the investment.
They however said trouble started:
“when Oyedepo wanted to buy his first private jet and the World Mission Agency Inc ordered the sale of majority of the securities in the investment portfolio, and that despite the professional advice to the contrary, the plaintiffs were made to sell the securities to raise the N3bn needed to buy the jet, a development which brought about huge losses to the investment.”
According to the plaintiffs, following the said sale of the shares coupled with the global economic meltdown which caused stock market across the globe to crash at the time, the N9bn investment recorded losses.
The plaintiffs, however, alleged that in a bid to avoid their financial obligations to the plaintiffs, Oyedepo and his organisations accused them of fraud and mismanagement and wrote a petition against them to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
They however claimed that the EFCC found them innocent after six years of investigation after which Oyedepo further dragged them before the Nigerian Stock Exchange.
The plaintiffs alleged that the NSE unlawfully froze their business accounts and did not give them fair hearing. They had urged the court to order the NSE to immediately unfreeze their accounts.
They also sought the payment of N1.86bn as their professional fee and damages. But the Oyedepos, through their lawyer, Mr. Chioma Okwuanyi, filed a preliminary objection and asked the court to dismiss the suit for lack of jurisdiction.
Contrary to the plaintiffs’ claim, Okwuanyi maintained that the losses recorded on the N9bn investment were due to the plaintiffs’ recklessness, adding that the margin loan they took was without the consent of the Oyedepos and that the loan was not channeled into his clients’ investment.
In the three-ground preliminary objection, Okwuanyi contended that by the provisions of Section 34 of the Investment and Securities Act, only the Investment and Securities Tribunal had the vested authority to entertain a dispute between a capital market operator and his client and not a Federal High Court, to which the plaintiff had brought the matter.
The lawyer further argued that the plaintiffs’ suit, as constituted before the Federal High Court, was premature, as the plaintiff had yet to explore all the internal dispute resolution mechanism within the NSE before heading for the court.
In its own objection, the NSE, through its counsel, Mr. M.O. Liadi, also contended that the plaintiffs ought to have approached the NSE council to ventilate their grievances rather than rush to the Federal High Court.
In his ruling on Friday, Justice Dagat upheld the defendants’ preliminary objections and dismissed the plaintiffs’ suit.

Bauchi State government, in collaboration with security agents, has rescued 450 teenage girls from traffickers.
A member of Bauchi State High Level Women Advocates, HILWA, a non-governmental organisation, and a staff of the Ministry of Education, Kalimatu Abdulkadir, disclosed this at a briefing to mark the International Day of the Girl-Child, organised by the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, in collaboration with UNICEF, in Bauchi.
She said the Ministry of Education received information of teenage girls brought into the state from the neighbouring states of Zamfara, Jigawa and Sokoto and moved to Abuja in two batches. According to her, “investigations by security agents in the state revealed that some persons, who engaged in child trafficking, brought some girls from three northern states of Zamfara, Sokoto and Jigawa, into the state.
“The girls were camped at an undisclosed location in the state and were dispatched in batches to Abuja. Some of the girls were taken through Kano, while the remaining went through Bauchi. They took the routes to avoid detection by security agents on the highways.”
Kalimatu said security agents were able to track the whereabouts of the girls in Abuja, rescued them from their captors and reunited them with their families.
This WhatsApp conversation is of a lady who is currently in a dilemma about what to do with her fiance who asked her to return a Range Rover Sport and N20m that was given to her by her ex for her wedding.
A psycho paedophile has been jailed after he confessed to his wife that he had raped his daughter, his stepdaughter, the family dog and chickens. The young man in his 20s, who cannot be identified to protect his victims, has now been jailed for six years and seven months ONLY after admitting what he had done.
A court in Adelaide heard that he had raped his own daughter when she was just three years old. His stepdaughter was aged between nine and 11 when he raped her while she was asleep.
He also admitted penetrating chickens and their dog, according to ABC.
The man also committed penetrative sex acts with chickens and the family dog, the court heard.
His ex wife said in a victim impact statement: “We didn’t do anything wrong; my beautiful innocent children certainly never ever deserved to have such terrible violation occur on their bodies and hearts.”
The court was told that he had previously had sexual contact with dogs when he was a child. He was also abused, but was seeking treatment. Describing his actions as ‘unnatural, gross and disturbing’, Judge Paul Muscat said:
“You appear determined and motivated to engage in treatment and address your abhorrent and abnormal sexual behaviours, which is imperative in order to reduce your risk of further sexual offending.
“If the sentence imposed on you seems to some to be moderate then that is the product of your voluntary confessions and the healthy sentencing discounts which apply. Offenders should be encouraged to come clean and accept full responsibility for their criminal actions and then take steps to address the issues which led to their offending, as you have done.”
Man was abused as a child, court told
The court heard the man had an unconventional childhood and suffered abuse as a child, and also had sexual contact with dogs as a child and began to feel “aroused by the wrongfulness of his sexual behaviour”.

Danfos are the pariah Volkswagen commercial buses painted yellow, the official colours of Lagos State.
They are always on the road for nearly 24 hours every day. For Lagosians who are yet to own cars, the danfo is an effective way to move around the ever busy and bustling state.
Besides, if you are always on Lagos roads, you would have noticed the shenanigans of these drivers which can be very frustrating and annoying. Thus, their hatred for them. Jumia Travel shares some of the reasons why Lagosians hate danfos.
Danfo drivers are very reckless
Danfos are self-acclaimed kings of Lagos roads. They are uncontrollably reckless when driving. They will never listen to the caution of anyone except that of LASTMA.

Ivory Coast and PSG defender, Serge Aurier helped save the life of a Malian player, Moussa Doumbia life after the striker was knocked unconscious on Saturday and almost swallowed his tongue.

He said:
“All the players realised that Doumbia was choking and was about to swallow his tongue. That’s when Aurier, with one of our players, quickly put him on his side and pulled out his tongue, because he was about to lose his life.”
Mali team co-ordinator Fousseni Diawara also praised Aurier:
“On Sunday, Aurier was at our hotel to ask after our guy.” ‘Doumbia fell and was swallowing his own tongue and Serge was one of the first to arrive and help,’ ‘That’s when Aurier, with one of our players, quickly put him on his side and pulled out his tongue, because he was about to lose his life.”There is one thing nobody is talking about, which is the manner in which he helped a Malian on the pitch.’
Tragedy hit Gaun community, in the Magboro area of Ogun State, after two children, Taiye and Kehinde Oluwasegun, were burnt to death in an inferno that gutted their parents’ bungalow on Tuesday.
According to PUNCH Metro, the incident happened around 8pm while the family was preparing to have dinner. The first born of the family, Iyanu, had tripped over a jerrycan of fuel, which also spilled some of its content in the parlour.
While the mother mopped the spillage, the fuel was said to have flowed to a lantern in the house, which triggered an explosion.
Residents, who were alerted by calls for help, reportedly rescued Iyanu; the second child, Korede; and their parents.
However, the twin children, aged three, were burnt to death.
When the publication visited the area on Wednesday, it was observed that everything in the house was burnt as smoke still billowed from burnt property in the three-bedroomed bungalow.
Korede, six, who sustained burns in the leg, said that his father, Aina, was about taking their generator outside when his sister fell.
He said,
“My daddy has two generators. We use the big one to pump water, while the small one is for the house.
“My daddy had put the small one in the room to pour petrol into it before taking it to the cage that was outside. My mummy was preparing food in the kitchen that time.
“My sister, who didn’t know there was a jerrycan on the floor, tripped over it. My mum then took the mop to clean spilled petrol. She was doing that when the fire started. There were six of us in the house: my dad and mum, my sister, the twins and me.”
Punch observed that there was no motorable road in the community and the area was connected to the rest of Magboro by a stretch of rickety bamboo bridge.
A motorcyclist in the area, who did not identify himself, said the survivors were helped by residents to cross the bridge.
He said,
“It was a difficult task getting the survivors to the hospital. We had to carry them on our backs with their burns. “The woman kept asking for her twins, while the husband kept lamenting that he lost everything to the fire.”
PUNCH Metro visited Perfect Joy Hospital where three members of the family were taken to for treatment.
They observed that Aina, a carpenter, suffered severe burns in his legs, hands, face and chest, while his wife, Abosede, a teacher, suffered burns in both legs.
It was learnt that she had yet to be informed that the twins were dead. A relative of the victims, Pastor Moses Igbinadolor, said Iyanu was in another hospital, adding that she sustained serious burns.
He lamented the lack of basic amenities in the community, saying it made the rescue difficult.
“We took Iyanu to another hospital and the doctor said she sustained 68 degrees burns. What, however, made the case worse was that we couldn’t get across to the fire service because there is no motorable road. The nearest police station is at Ibafo. This just shows that we don’t have a listening government. No road, no power, no water,” he said.
Punch reports they learnt that the case was not reported to the police. The traditional ruler of Gaun community, Sumonu Seidu, said a delegation from the community had visited the victims in the hospital.
“I am aware the couple lost their twins after a fire incident,” he said.
Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has ordered the management of all the commercial banks in Nigeria to halt any plans to sack some of its workers.
CBN’s Director, Banking Supervision, Tokunbo Martins broke the news at the Bankers’ Committee meeting held in Lagos on Wednesday.
“One of the things we discussed was about the impending retrenchment in the banking industry. So, we understand that many bank staff are experiencing fears about possible retrenchment in the industry.
We discussed it among the banks and the banks are now committed to not retrenching their staff going forward. So, whatever rumours are flying around about that mass retrenchment happening or not happening, that is not true” The Nation reports
Members of the Shi’ite group were holding the annual procession of Ashura, and passing through some strategic areas in the Kano metropolis, when they got attacked by youths, some of whom brandished knives, swords, machetes and cutlasses.
Kano State Police Command, DSP Magaji Musa Majia, who confirmed that 17 members of the group were injured, said the clash occurred at different locations within the state metropolis including Kofar-Mata, Murtala Muhammad Hospital and Kano Abattoir.
“We have rescued 138 members of the Shi’ite mostly women and children and they are still under our custody. There was no death on both sides and normalcy has since returned to Kano,” he told Daily Trust.
Mallam Sa’idu Isa Yakasai, one of the Shi’te leaders in Kano said they were attacked by hoodlums shortly after the procession.
“Scores of Shi’ite members mostly adults were injured during the attack. I saw about 10 of our members who sustained various degrees of injury in their head. I was able to rescue many children during the attack. It was a coordinated attack. This is quite unfortunate. This is not the first time our people organize such a procession. In fact it is an annual event not only in Nigeria but worldwide and it is always peaceful. Even this year’s procession was peaceful because it was after the procession that the hoodlums attacked our people,” he said.
Emir of Katsina, Abdulmumini Usman has been accused of marrying off a 14 year old Habiba Isiyaku to her kidnapper, Jamilu Lawal.
Habiba’s father, Isiyaku Tanko, accused the Katsina monarch at a press conferences organized by an NGO, Stefanos foundation, to raise awareness on the matter, The Nation reports.
Habiba’s father alleged that his daughter was kidnapped from school, Government Senior Secondary School, Kudun Kankara, Kastina State by Jamilu and has been forcefully converted to Islam and married off by the Emir without her parents consent to Lawal.
According to Tanko, Jamilu had not only admitted to abducting his daughter but also revealed that she is presently being kept at the Palace of the Emir of Katsina.
He alleged that the Emir had informed him that his daughter had been converted to Islam and he had received the sum of N50, 000 as dowry from Jamilu.
“My little girl was abducted on the 16th of August 2016 from her school. After my investigations, I discovered that Jamilu Lawal who lives in the same community was responsible for my daughters’ disappearance.
I requested that a formal complaint about the incident be lodged to the Commissioner of Police in Kastina, Jamilu and his parents were summoned to the police station and he not only admitted to abducting my daughter Habiba but also revealed that she was presently being kept at the Palace of the Emir of Kastina.
On arrival at the Palace, the Emir informed me that my daughter has been converted from Christianity to Islam henceforth, there is no longer any relationship between me and my daughter and we can no longer inherit each other. He further informed me that he has received the sum if N50, 000.00 as dowry from Jamilu Ibrahim for my daughter therefore, he will give her out in marriage in accordance with Islamic rites and injunctions.
He accused me of defaming him at the Police Station and I was threatened, intimidated and coerced to sign an apology drafted on my behalf in his Palace. As at today, I am aware that the Emir of Kastina has gone ahead to marry out my little girl without my consent, having received a dowry he is not entitled to receive, it fills me with so much pain and grief to realize that my daughter, who will turn 15 this Saturday the 15th may be celebrating her birthday in a forced marriage.
I appeal to all well-meaning Nigerians and those in authority to help join hands to see that my daughter is released to me though the violations already done to her person may be irreversible. I further appeal that the Incident be well investigated and diligently prosecuted.”
Programme Coordinator for Stafanos Foundation, Mark Lipdo, a Non-Governmental Organization assisting the parents with the release of Habiba stated.
“We have been trying to intervene in the conflicts going on in Nigeria, we believe in the human rights of all citizens and encourage that fundamental rights be upheld at all times to maintain a sane society. Many times we call on the appropriate authorities to act like in the case of Habiba Isiyaku, such incidents can make conflicts continue in Nigeria.
Habiba is a girl that just completed her Junior Secondary school and had very good grades, she had so much prospects only to be abducted, when her parents were invited to the Emirs palaceN she was brought out in a hijab and he told them that they no longer have any relationship with the girl anymore because she has been converted to Islam and that he the Emir of Katsina has now become the father of the girl and he can do whatever he wants with her.
After a few days that the father was sent back, we followed with the Commissioner of Police to try to get the girl, we took a lawyer with us as Stefanos Foundation to stand with the parents to demand for their rights but the rights where denied, we petitioned the Inspector General (IG) of Police here in Abuja to see if he can secure the girls release but till date, he is yet to respond, we brought the parents to Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) for help, to see if they can help secure her release and they said that they will be following the matter up with the IG, but up till today, nothing, we have been in this town for three days now we have not heard anything from CAN and the IG.
The girl is a minor and things like this has to stop happening in this country because if it continues, people are going to result to self-help because where a person has been told his right but he it has been deliberately refused it, if the person has any strength, he will result to self-help.”
