The Naira took a fall again on Tuesday, December 6, as it dropped to N485 from N484 against the dollar and N600 from N590 against the British pound at the parallel market.
However, the local currency maintained the N510 per Euro as it was yesterday, December 5.
Some have attributed the fall of the naira to the recent crackdown in the parallel market against currency traders.
However, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, in an interview with Reuters, said “his office was working with the central bank to make the foreign exchange market more flexible and more reflective of actual demand and supply”.
At the official side of the market, the naira depreciated from 305 to 315 per dollar, while the pound went for N401.

When, in August, 23-year-old Nigerian college graduate Chris Kwekowe met Bill Gates, he didn’t press the founder of Microsoft Inc. for business advice or a possible job offer. The meeting took place at a forum for Africa’s brightest young entrepreneurs.
Rather Chris told Bill Gates during the forum that featured some of Africa’s brightest young entrepreneurs, how he had turned down a software engineer role at Microsoft.
“[Gates] was really intrigued, and he smiled,” says Kwekowe, “After the program, all the directors were like, ‘Dude, you mean you actually turned down a job at Microsoft and had the guts to tell Bill Gates?”
The young entrepreneur was extremely confident in his abilities and had a great reason to decline the job offer. Chris was creating his own startup company, Slatecube, which helps other young Nigerians who graduated college find jobs.
Slatecube seeks to solve that problem by nurturing the graduates through digital internships.Chris Kwekowe graduated from college in Lagos, Nigeria with a degree in computer science.
Along with his brother Emerald, 20, they started Slatecube in October 2014. The brothers financed their fledgling company by freelancing as web designers and operating a software solutions firm.
So far, Slatecube has an 80% employment rate for its users. Companies that have used the platform, have saved over $100,000 in 2015 by hiring skilled, ready to work employees. The interns that have used Slatecube so far, say it gives prospective employers a more realistic understanding of the Nigerian labor force.
Chris recently won the 2015 Anzisha Prize, a Pan-African award given to the continent’s best young entrepreneur. The prize came with a $25,000 check.
He is currently spending almost four-months per year seeking investors and potential employers to use Slatecube in America. He is now in talks with Google and Microsoft in regards to using his platform.
The company is expecting to open offices in Kenya, Ghana, and South Africa in 2017. When asked where his tenacious spirit to compete in the business world comes from, Chris said, “If you can do business in Lagos, you can do business anywhere in the world.”

A 75-year-old Tanzanian man has launched an elaborate search for a partner after he lost his wife – Athumani Mchambua has put up advertising posters in the low income area of Mbagala in the main city of Dar es Salaam, urging interested applicants to show up for an interview.
The poster, in Swahili, says the successful candidate must be hardworking, able to handle farm work and be willing to be a step-mother to his 11 children:Mr Mchambua told the BBC’s Munira Hussein that he wanted to do the search on his own and not through intermediaries, which is traditional in some cultures.
“I felt that if I was to use a traditional intermediary to find a wife, they might find a woman and then want to keep her for themselves. That’s why I decided that I search for her on my own, and put out those posters.”
He has so far interviewed four candidates:
I have held the interview only once and four candidates showed up, but no one had all the qualities. Some mentioned only two out of four [qualities] but not more than that.”
His daughter Dalia Mchambua told the BBC that she was happy with her father’s process and was ready to accept the winning “candidate” as her mother.

Well, like they say, age is just a number. According to Facebook user, Nekky, who shared the photos, the man is allegedly in his 20s and his bride in her 40s.
They got married over the weekend somewhere in Nigeria. Love is love. Happy married life to them!
A bride’s childhood dream of arriving at her wedding by helicopter ended in tragedy when it crashed just a mile from the venue.
Rosemere do Nascimento Silva, 32, had planned to surprise her fiancé Udirley Damasceno and 300 guests by swooping in to their reception in a rural area on the outskirts of Sao Paulo in Brazil.
But in an horrendous twist of fate, the aircraft crashed en route to the venue, killing the bride-to-be, her brother, the pilot and a photographer who was six-months-pregnant.
Mr Damasceno was left waiting at the altar, unaware of what his fiancée was planning to do, or of the tragic consequences.
Police and air crash investigators are now trying to establish what caused the crash.
They are looking into reports that it might have hit a tree during bad visibility with rain, fog and cloud.
“All brides have a dream and hers was to arrive by helicopter to their wedding without anyone knowing,” Carlos Eduardo Batista, one of the organisers told Brazilian media Globo.
The accident was only discovered when he realised the helicopter did not arrive at a nearby football field.
He made a phone call which confirmed it had taken off as planned.
They were later told a plane had crashed nearby but at first thought it was an unconnected incident.
The distraught bridegroom was told the news at the altar by the pastor and was said to have gone into total shock.
There were 300 guests at the wedding but only about six of them knew about the surprise.
The National Civil Aviation Agency has indicated that the aircraft permission to fly until February 1, 2017 with a capacity of three people without counting the pilot.
The helicopter, a Robinson 44, crashed about a mile from the wedding venue in a forest area near a main road.
Eight fire engines rushed to the scene but nothing could be done to save the four occupants.
This is quite heartbreaking though… – this is the moment a young boy went up to beg a woman inside a car and then realizes the woman he was begging from survived with the support of an Oxygen tank.
The young man emotionally broke down in tears after seeing it. More photos below:
It’s no news that the reality TV star has been off the social media radar ever since her Paris attack some months back.
The star didn’t even celebrate her son’s birthday on social media, which is quite unusual of her.
Well, her bestie Jonathan Cheban did that for her as he posted an intimate photo of her kissing Saint, who turned a year old yesterday, on Kimbo’s website.
The 42-year-old wrote,
“I can’t believe today is Saint’s first birthday! One thing people may not know about me is that I’m obsessed with babies, LOL. In honor of his birthday, I convinced Kim to let me share some never-before-seen pics! Happy birthday, Saint!”
Kris Jenner also shared an adorable photo of Saint West wishing him a happy birthday.

According to a new report by Daily Mail UK, a conspiracy theorist has claimed that Jesus will return to Earth this month, guiding his people to heaven and leaving the planet totally sterile for 1,000 years.
Nora Roth, a Christian computer programmer, says she has performed complex calculations which suggest the apocalypse will occur by the end of 2016.
At that point, ‘everlasting righteousness will be brought in’, and Earth will be ‘left to rest’ for a millennium.
The claims have been made on Ms Roth’s website, MarkBeast, in a post called ‘2016 The Time of the End.’
Ms Roth writes: ‘In the fall [autumn] of 2016, the 6,000 years of sin on earth will come to an end, everlasting righteousness will be brought in, and Jesus will come again to take His people to heaven.’
‘Then the Earth will begin its 1,000 years of rest.’
Ms Roth believes that each person has a probation time on Earth.
Ms Roth’s calculations are based on an excerpt from the Bible’s Book of Daniel, which tells the story of the Jewish people’s forced relocation to Babylon.
In the story, Gabriel says that ‘Seventy sevens are decreed […] to put an end to sin.’
Ms Roth believes that ‘sevens’ refers to a Jubilee cycle, which is a unit of time.
The Bible states that the working week should be six days long, with a rest day on Sunday.
This also extends on a larger scale, and Ms Roth says that God ‘told the children of Israel to plant and to harvest their land for six years and then let the land rest the seventh year.’
A Jubilee Cycle consists of seven of the larger units, followed by a year of rest – a total of 50 years.
Ms Roth writes: ‘The 70 Jubilees began in 1416 BC when God’s children entered Canaan. The 70 Jubilees will end 3,431 years later in 2016 AD.’
But Nigel Watson, author of the UFO Investigations Manual, says the predictions have little evidence to them.
Mr Watson told MailOnline: ‘Obscure numbers and codes are loved by fearmongers, and by using them to predict the end of the world, they show they have an insight into the mind of God and/or the workings of the Universe.
‘Using knowledge of past predictions, and the fact we are still here, I predict we shouldn’t worry about this latest revelation.’
This is not the first claim that the world will end in 2016 due to the second coming of Jesus.
In July, a video posted on YouTube claimed that a magnetic polar flip would trigger worldwide earthquakes and a ‘rolling cloud’ that would destroy the world.
End Times Prophecies, who posted the video, claimed that the Earth is currently overdue a magnetic flip, and predicted it would happen in July as it overlapped with the ‘second coming of Jesus.’
Luckily for us, the world did not experience a magnetic polar flip, and did not end in July.
Corp members are avoiding to participate in the legislative rerun election scheduled for Saturday in Rivers State.
Investigation revealed that corps members who are being contacted to serve as ad hoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission are refusing to participate in the election because of fear of possible violence during the election.
A source who confided in a Punch correspondent said that the corps members were not showing the usual enthusiasm to participate in the election because of the accusations and counter-accusation between the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike , and INEC.
The source said, “Corps members being contacted by INEC to participate in the Rivers rerun election are showing reluctance to serve in the election.
“A good number of them are afraid that there could be violence during the election, and these are young men and women who don’t want to get killed because of some election.”
When our correspondent contacted the Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman of INEC, Mr. Rotimi Oyekanmi, he said that it was only the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Rivers that could comment on that.
Reacting, the state REC, Mr. Aniedi Ikoiwak, said the job of corps members was voluntary, adding that those who did not want to work with INEC on election day were free to opt out.
Ikoiwak argued that some of the corps members’ parents might have told them not to take part in the rerun election, adding that such a situation would not affect the exercise on Saturday.
The state REC, however, pointed out that INEC would get more ad hoc workers from other government’s agencies if there was shortage in the number of corps members needed for the job on Saturday.
Controversial bishop, Daniel Obinim, who’s always on the news for his questionable doctrines has said he can enlarge a man’s penis using just his hands.
The preacher who was accused of adultery months ago, after he whipped two teenagers in his church for allegedly committing fornication, says he has been blessed with special powers by God.
A footage has emerged online of him in action. In a scene broadcast on Obinim TV, Bishop Obinim says:
“If you do not like the looks of any part of your body, come to me, what do you want that I can’t offer?
If you want big buttocks I can do it for you, if you want big breasts, I can help. If you have a small manhood, I can change them all when I come to the spiritual realm.”
In a video, the founder of the International God’s Way Church has the faithful line up with their hands raised while he administers the miraculous touch.
No evidence appears to have been offered that his ‘special powers’ work.
The Lagos State Police command has arrested a 28-year-old security man, Haruna Abubakar, for killing his colleague, cutting the body into pieces, bagging and dumping same in the bush, Vanguard reports.
According to sources within the command’s headquarters, the suspect was arrested after investigations, following a report by the victim’s brother to the police about his disappearance.
It was gathered that the suspect and victim are co-workers in a farm in Ibeju Lekki area of the state, where the suspect worked as a security guard while the victim worked as a herdsman.
The spokesperson for the police in the state, SP Dolapo Badmus, confirmed the incident, yesterday.
According to Badmus,
“On December 3, the suspect had an altercation with the victim, who is about 27 years old. It resulted into a fight and in the process, the suspect killed the deceased with a dagger.
Abubakar cut him into pieces, packed him in a sack and dumped him in the bush. The brother to the deceased, one Adamu, reported the case of a missing person to the police after his brother failed to return home after the day’s work.
The clues gathered by the police led to the arrest of the suspect, who later confessed to the crime and led the operatives to where the dismembered body was recovered.
The Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, SCIID, Panti, for further investigation and prosecution.”
A fashion apprentice, Blessing Alex, has been found dead in a well after she was reportedly forced to abort her three-month-old pregnancy.
The incident was said to have occured in Iselle-Azagba community in the Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State.
A source told our correspondent on Monday that the deceased, who hailed from Ikoto town in the Ini Local Government Area of Cross River State was discovered to be pregnant for one of the villagers, but her parents insisted that she removed the foetus.
It was learnt that Blessing, who had gone missing for about 10 days, was found dead in the well in the community on Saturday by members of the community vigilance group.
The deceased was to be attached to a sewing institute for further training when she was allegedly impregnated by her boyfriend who is an indigene of the community.
Another villager, who identified himself simply as Uche, said the incident had thrown the community into mourning.
He added that many thought that the girl might have committed suicide as a result of her parents’ stance on her pregnancy and the depression she suffered after it was aborted.
“Not too long ago, the victim, who was living with her father and stepmother, aborted her pregnancy.
“It was learnt that she was force to remove the foetus because the family members were not comfortable with her relationship with the man who impregnated her.
“Since then, she had not been herself both in composure and behaviour until she was found dead,” a source disclosed.
When asked to state the extent of investigation, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, Zanna Ibrahim, said he was not aware of the incident.

An official statement released on Monday by Wale Adeniyi, the spokesman of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), states that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government has banned the importation of cars through land borders.
“Importation of vehicles into Nigeria through the land borders has been banned by the federal government. The prohibition order covers all new and used vehicles,” he said.
He said the new policy followed a presidential directive restricting all vehicle imports to Nigeria’s sea ports, adding that the order takes effect from January 1, 2017.
“The restriction on importation of vehicles follows that of rice, whose imports have been banned through the land borders since April 2016.
“Importers of vehicles through the land borders are requested to utilize the grace up till 31st December 2016 to clear their vehicle imports landed in neighbouring ports,” he added.
Benedicta Daudu, an associate professor of law and former head of the Department of Jurisprudence and International Law of the Faculty of Law in UNIJOS, was allegedly caught copying from a prepared answer during an examination for a Master’s degree in Research and Public Policy in the same university.
The development was exclusively reported by PREMIUM TIMES on May 21, frustrating what some staff and student described as a plot by the university to cover up the matter.
After the report, Mrs. Daudu’s membership of the Presidential Advisory Committee against Corruption was immediately suspended.
Insiders at UNIJOS have now told PREMIUM TIMES that the lecturer has been suspended from work, and from the masters programme.
“I can confirm to you that the Senate Disciplinary Committee found her guilty of the allegations, and has suspended her from the Masters programme for two semesters.
Also, the matter was referred to the Staff Disciplinary Committee which also suspended her from work. So she is no longer teaching,” an official of the university revealed.
Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka has threatened to exit Nigeria as a response to the media harassment to which Nigerians have subjected him.
Speaking to reporters today at a media event held at Freedom Park on Lagos Island, Mr. Soyinka, winner of the 1986 Nobel Prize for literature, said he was embarrassed to share a country with some “imbeciles and morons.”
He said, “I should not be exiting the United States but Nigeria because the people on behalf of whom one has struggled all one’s life can be so slavish in mentality as to start querying the right of their champion to free speech.”
He continued, “I am embarrassed to occupy the same space as some imbeciles and morons,” adding that the exit from Nigeria can be “internal” or “external”.
Mr. Soyinka, a retired professor from Obafemi Awolowo University and numerous universities in the U.K. and US, also threatened to move the residency of his foundation, the Wole Soyinka Foundation, out of Nigeria and dared anybody to criticize his decision.
“If the board agrees,” he said, “I will move the residency of my foundation out of the country,” he said.
He added that on the inauguration of the US president-elect, Donald Trump, he would hold a private funeral wake to mourn the death of common sense in Nigeria.
The Nobel laureate expressed irritation at many Nigerians who had taken to the social media to criticize his comment to leave the United States of America and tear his green card after Mr. Trump was declared winner in the November 8, 2016 presidential election in the US.
He said, “We worked to make sure the least important person in our society enjoys freedom of expression. When I decide to take this same action [use his freedom of speech], I don’t want people whom we have fought for to enjoy freedom of expression to start all kinds of vulgar and stupid commentaries.
“Barbarians have taken over this community using the anonymity, most of the time, of the Internet to sit somewhere and start writing rubbish, questioning the right of people like me to express ourselves.”
Mr. Soyinka said Nigerians have no right to question his decision to leave the US.
“What is the business of any stupid Nigerian to open his or her mouth to challenge my right? Did you get the green card for me? The arrogance of some Nigerians is overwhelming, and I don’t interfere, so how dare you interfere with me?” he said.
He asked, “Why do Nigerians wail louder than the bereaved?”
Mr. Soyinka said he never wanted the American green card, but was given one by former President Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the United States, which caused him to christen the document “Jimmy Carter’s card.”
He said, “I call my green card Jimmy Carter’s card because he got it for me and, as a matter of fact, I did not ask for it.”

It is no longer news that the Ponzi scheme MMM has, in recent times, become a popular topic of discussion in Nigeria.
It is believed that the scheme which has caused divided opinions among Nigerians, currently has about 509, 021 members and is said to be a fraudulent business that capitalises on people’s greed.
A Lagos-based expert Kingsley Omose, is the latest Nigerian to lend his voice to the circumstances surrounding the ponzi scheme.
