Dr. Olabode Ojoniyi, a lecturer in the Department of Languages at the Osun State University, Osogbo, has been fired from his job after a sex tape of him with a female student, Mercy Ikwue, was released.

The Punch reports that the university’s Governing Council headed by Mallam Yusuf Ali SAN, sacked the lecturer, whom the tape showed nude on a bed in a hotel room caressing the student.

He said, “The Council met last week and the report of the panel that investigated Ojoniyi’s amorous affair with the female student was deliberated upon. His appointment was terminated because that is the penalty stated in the Code of Conduct of Staff of Osun State University,” a source in the Governing Council told the Punch Newspapers

Mercy (the student) who is believed to have come under intense pressure from Ojoniyi to have sex with him captured the sex act after she pretended to have succumbed to his relentless pressure. Unknown to the lecturer, she was recording on her laptop while pretending to be watching a movie, Things Fall Apart.

However, Ojoniyi blamed his problems on a recently sacked lecturer of the university. He said the student was contracted to blackmail him. He however did not deny being the one shown in the video.

In a related news, a professor at the university recently resigned his appointment over the alleged rape of a female student in his office.

Part II articles 15 and 23 of the Code of Conduct for Staff and Students of UNIOSUN reads,

“An academic staff shall not conduct himself/ herself in relation to students in such a manner that derogates from his status as a lecturer, examiner and adviser. Specifically, sexual harassment of students by (members of) staff is totally forbidden. Any (member of) staff found guilty of sexual harassment shall be dismissed from the service of the university and may be handed over to relevant state authority for prosecution.

“An academic (member of) staff shall not demand from students any gratification whether in cash or in kind including sexual gratification in the discharge of his/her lawful duties. Breach of this code shall warrant appropriate sanction ranging from warning to termination of appointment depending on the gravity of the offence.”

– 150,000 to teach

The inaugural set of 200,000 unemployed graduates already selected in the first batch of the N-power volunteer job and training scheme of the Buhari Social Investment Programmes should start work in the next two weeks.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN made this disclosure over the weekend while attending the Apostolic Coalition Summit in Lagos.

He noted that “at the moment close to a million graduates have registered on the volunteer scheme and we should be doing the first 200,000 in the next 14 days or so, we should be able to get started with the first 200,000 across the country.”

According to him as a stop gap measure, the Buhari administration is engaged in direct creation of jobs, including the plan to create 500, 000 jobs for unemployed graduates, 200,000 of whom have now been selected.

He explained that the programme should have commenced “as at October 31, 2016, but is delayed on account of the fact that we are trying to get as many of the equipments that we require,” referring to the tablets that would be given to all the 500,000 N-power undergraduate participants.

The Vice President further explained that efforts are also being made”to ensure that all across the country, we are able to provide those opportunities as we promised.”

Already 200,000 unemployed Nigerians have been selected, including 150,000 who would teach and serve in their communities, 30,000 who would serve as Agric Extension Workers and 20,000 who would serve as public health workers.

Each of the unemployed graduates would get a N30,000 monthly stipen and also get an electronic tablet that would be packaged with several applications that would train and empower the participants.

The Vice President reiterated that the N-Power scheme was launched as a volunteer programme “to create temporary opportunities for young graduates, to at least be doing something and many of them would be volunteer teachers, health officials and extension workers, who will earn a stipend.”

He added that the participants will also have a device “and that device has a lot of training brochures, different forms of training brochures and it’s also a device that enables them to be able to, on a continuous basis, learn different things, some code-writing, some entrepreneurial skills. There are lot of varieties of material that can be learned on the device. The device is also a means of communicating with them wherever they may be in the country.”

While the federal government would pay the 200,000 directly, state governments would play an active role in their deployment to the needed areas. The first batch of 200,000 selected volunteers are also being screened using the BVN so as to properly set-up the payment of their monthly stipends.

Patience attempts to withdraw $5m from frozen account

Sources within the EFCC also told our correspondent that it foiled a fresh attempt by Patience Jonathan to withdraw $5m from her frozen account during the week.

The source said the commission was informed by Skye Bank that Patience had placed a standing order for $5m to be withdrawn from the account but it was stopped.

The detective added, “We received an alert from Skye Bank during the week that Patience attempted to withdraw $5m from her personal account titled Patience Ibifaka Jonathan which is domiciled at the bank.

“We immediately told the bank not to allow any withdrawal because a ‘No Debit Order’ had been placed on the account.”

It will be recalled that the EFCC had frozen four other company accounts with a balance of $15m. The accounts were linked to a former Special Adviser to Jonathan on Domestic Affairs, Waripamowei Dudafa.

However, during the arraignment of Dudafa and the directors of the companies, Patience filed an application claiming ownership of the money.

She subsequently asked the court to lift the restriction on the accounts.

On Wednesday the directors of the companies pleaded guilty to money laundering. The EFCC applied for the money to be permanently forfeited to the Federal Government, a request which has been deferred by the Federal High Court.

One of the two suspects arrested by the operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of Lagos State Police Command has disclosed that he and other teenagers in Oshodi survive by stealing and dispossessing passers-by of their phones and other valuables.

The suspect, Yusuph Ahmed, 19, from Offa, Kwara State, said this to interrogators at the RRS headquarters in Alausa, Ikeja, on Friday afternoon.

Ahmed, who was arrested in Oshodi on Friday after dispossessing a passenger of his phone, stated that he along with other teenagers sleep in Oshodi under bridge and that it is from there they eke out a living by stealing phones and robbing passers-by of their valuables.

The arrested suspect, who had been sleeping under Oshodi Bridge since he was 13, stressed that even though he does not follow those who rob amongst them out all the time, he knows all of them.

He narrated that “I sleep in Oshodi Under Bridge. We are over 60 teenagers sleeping there. The adults sleep in Ori – Pako. I was 13 years old when I started sleeping there. I keep my clothes there…. I sleep around 8:00 p.m. or 9:00 p.m. There are some of us who do not sleep at all. They are the ones that alert us whenever the police is around. There are equally some who do not sleep because they go from one place to the other in Oshodi to rob. They rob late at night and very early in the morning.”

He continued: “After the death of my mother, my father abandoned us. He stopped taking care of us leaving us to fend for ourselves. Even the school, he stopped paying the monthly N600. I had to resort to packing granite to pay the monthly N600 for school fee.”

“At a point, I couldn’t cope with the fee. I was just 12. I dropped out and I decided to run to Lagos. Since then, Oshodi Under Bridge has been my home. Any phone I stole, I sell to Mohammed or Kudus. They are beggars in Oshodi. They buy most of the stolen phones from us,” the teenager added.

However, the stolen phone, a Tecno Y6, was recovered from Ahmed’s brother.

The second suspect, Yusuph Agbaje, 25, from Oyo State, was arrested in Agege for stealing a Blackberry curve from a commuter.

Responding to the development, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police, Dolapo Badmos, said that the Police would leave no stone unturned in getting rid of criminal elements within the state, urging parents to monitor the activities of their wards.

The suspects have been transferred to the Lagos State Task force on Environment for prosecution.

Recall yesterday, Bishop Oyedepo had warned critics not to criticize the fees of Covenant University in order to avoid the wrath of God.

Lt. Col Mohammed Abu Ali who was killed by Boko Haram terrorists left behind a young wife and child. Ali and four other soldiers were killed late on Friday, November 4 by Boko Haram insurgents after a fierce battle, a statement by Army spokesman, Colonel Sani Usman announced.

Ali, a recipient of the Chief of Army Staff Award for exceptional bravery and excellence, led the army units that recovered Gamboru-Ngala, Baga and several communities from the terrorists. In a post by Dr. Aminu Gamawa, he sent condolences to the family of the deceased soldier.

He wrote: He made the ultimate sacrifice so that we could all live in peace and security. He was a gallant and great soldier.

We thank Lt. Col. Muhammed Abu Ali for his service and sacrifice. Our condolences to his family, the Chief of Army Staff, and the Nigerian Army. May his soul Rest in Peace.

The Nigerian army performed the final burial rites on Ali on Saturday, November 5. As his body was being taken away, soldiers stood at attention and saluted the late gallant soldier who lost his life after he and other soldiers were ambushed by the terrorists.

Why do you love cars?

I love automobiles and everybody can be passionate about a particular thing. Some can be passionate about homosexuality. They can spend any amount of money to sleep with a man. Some are passionate about occultism. They can buy blood at any amount of money. Some are passionate about diamonds; you can ask Diezani (Alison-Madueke). My passion is automobiles and there is no crime in that and I am very proud of it. Once the automobiles are not products of crime and they are not got from any ill-gotten wealth, then a man should be proud about what he is passionate about. I love automobiles and I am waiting for the next collection.

On odering for more cars despite some members of his constituency unable to feed, he said

Yes, my cars cannot underwrite the recession problems of this country. Even if you sell my cars now, it will not make Nigeria to come out of recession.

Where is Mrs. Melaye and what can you say specifically about your marital life?

I am single. I have three children. But I am not married. I won’t remain single forever. Very soon I will invite you (to my wedding) and I assure you (that the person I will marry) will be a Made-in-Nigeria woman.

Why do you find it difficult to settle down with one woman?

I have always been married to one woman and all my children are from one woman. I have only been married once. Whatever marriage I am going into now will be my second marriage. If you are anxious to know, I will invite you.

Are you ruling out the possibility of reconciling with your wife?

I don’t have a wife.

Many believe that you are young and therefore they query the source of your stupendous wealth. How did you get your money?

I don’t know about stupendous wealth. I don’t know about being wealthy, but I will say I am a comfortable Nigerian and I have never got any contract from the government contract in my life. I have also never taken any political appointment in my life or a position where I have control over government funds. I have never had government imprest and I challenge anyone who has any criminal allegation against me to actually come out and present it. With the vigour with which I fought the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan, if I had any skeleton in my cupboard, by now it would have been exposed. For a man who buys very expensive cars with his name labelled on the number plate, it is enough to tell you that he is clean. I am a very transparent Nigerian, a very open and honest Nigerian. I have never stolen from government and I can say it without fear. I challenge anyone to prove me otherwise. But at the same time, God is the ultimate giver of legitimate wealth and anyone who really wants to tap into the anointing of getting resources from God should please consult me.

Before you became a senator, were you already a millionaire?

I have not acquired anything dramatically new since I became a senator. The houses I have in this city (Abuja), I acquired before being sworn in as a senator. Hard work pays and the Holy Book says God shall supply my needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. To me, that is very fundamental. My source of wealth is heavenly, my purse is divine and it won’t dry up.

The Nigerian Army has confirmed the rescue of a Chibok girl following multiple reports of the achievement.

In a recent release by acting Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, the Chibok girl was rescued by troops of 121 Battalion with her son.

He said: “Troops of 121 Battalion, Nigerian Army, deployed at Pulka, Gwoza Local Government Area, Borno State, for Operation LAFIYA DOLE today, Saturday 5th November 2016, at about 6.00am, while screening some escapees from Boko Haram terrorists hideout in Sambisa forest, discovered one of the abducted Government Secondary School Chibok girls, named Maryam Ali Maiyanga among them.”

Speaking further, he said: “She was discovered to be carrying a 10-month-old son, named Ali. She has been taken to the unit’s medical facility for proper medical check up.

“It is imperative to state that troops have been working round the clock to clear remnants of Boko Haram terrorists wherever they might be hibernating and also rescue all persons held hostages by terrorists,” Usman said.

This is coming weeks after 21 of the abducted Chibok girls were rescued by the Nigerian Army.
