An Abuja based lawyer Kayode Ajulo, has cautioned Nigerian Nobel Literature Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, against carrying his threat to destroy his American green card in protest of Donald Trump’s victory at the US presidential election.
Ajuko, reacting to threats made by Soyinka to destroy his American citizen’s card, warned that the Nobel Literature Laureate could run into trouble with the American law if he does so.
The lawyer told Vanguard in an interview on Thursday, November 10, that under the American law losing or having your US green card destroyed can be a serious problem. He said legally such is tagged as wishful destruction of government’s property.
Ajulo urged Soyinka to rescind his threat to destroy his resident permit, noting that he is far better and far bigger than that because such act is provocative and unacceptable.
He described Soyinka as a good ambassador who cares not just about Nigeria but the world at large, advising him to keep to it.
Recall that literary icon pledged to keep a promise he had given a few days before the Nov. 8 election, when he told students at Oxford University that he will cut his green card and start packing up if Trump won the polls. A jealous boyfriend has slit the throat of his female lover following an argument in Adamawa state. The victim was left with horrible wounds on her face and body.
According to HOOKUPTV Blog, the lady was identified as Witness and a student of Adamawa state Polytechnic, Yola campus.
She was quickly rushed to the specialist hospital Yola by her fellow female students of the State Poly after the incident.

“This sad event took place yesterday 9th November at the Adamawa State Polytechnic Yola Main Campus in the evening hours.The lady who has been identified as Witness by name was said to have been dating a young man who was a student of the same institution (State Polytechnic Yola Campus) but returned to rewrite a pending carry over course.
“On the fateful day, eye witnesses say he called her several but to no avail as she did not pick or return her calls thus enraging her estranged lover. The lady was seen to alight from another man’s vehicle with polythene bag containing bread and some raw eggs. upon sighting her, her enraged lover ensues into a heated argument with her regarding her whereabouts. passers by who knew them prior to that time knew it was common place for them to have such verbal exchange thus ignored the two lovers to carry on their arguments.
“Things took a turn for the worse how ever when the man pulled out a knife and slit her throat as though slaughtering and animal. her screams for help thus attracted male folk around the area to fight him off but he had inflicted much wounds both on her throat and face. he quickly ran to the school gate threatening to stab the security man if the gate was not opened for him
“The lady was rushed to the hospital for medical attention. She is currently under stable condition and the lover has been apprehended and arrested.”
A vigilance group commander in the Oke Aro area of Ogun State, Quadri Adesina, has been arrested by the police after an alleged accidental discharge from his gun killed a 23-year-old man, Yusuf Azeez.
Azeez reportedly wanted to wrest the gun from the suspect when a bullet hit him in the thigh. He was rushed to a hospital in the area, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Punch Metro learnt that the deceased’s mother, 42-year-old Toyin Akintayo, had invited Adesina and his colleagues to her residence on CAC Street, Oke Aro, around 8pm on Tuesday to apprehend Azeez, who allegedly threatened to kill her.
It was gathered that Azeez had arrived at home on that day at about 6pm and requested his dinner. The mother was said to have explained to him that she didn’t have enough money to prepare a meal.
Trouble started after the mother, who sells confectionery, gave him N200 to buy food, saying that was all she could afford. He reportedly smashed a bottle on the ground and vowed to kill her.
The mother said, “I wanted to break my fast on that day with garri when he arrived at home. I said there was no kerosene in the stove to prepare food for him and his younger brother. I gave him N200 and the brother N70. He said the N200 was small and threw it at me.
“I explained to him that it was all I had and that we wouldn’t have been in the situation if he did not steal the compressor of my freezer, which I used to sell ice blocks. I also advised him to find a job. He became angry and started threatening me with a knife and the shard of a bottle. He said he would not allow me to sleep at home that night and vowed to kill me.
“I sneaked out to call members of a vigilance group beside our house. They followed me home and tried to pacify him. He fought them and fought for the control of a gun that one of them carried. The gun exploded in the process and he was injured in the thigh. He died at a hospital near here.”
Akintayo described her son’s death as a relief to her, saying she could no longer endure the shame his notoriety for “stealing and street fighting” had brought to the family.
She added that his son’s gang members stormed her house on Wednesday and threatened that she would pay for Azeez’s death.
She said, “I enrolled him in three different secondary schools, he dropped out. I took him to five different furniture experts to learn the work, he absconded. He went into barbing; I gave him N85,000 to rent a shop and furnished it for him. He didn’t go to the shop until the rent expired.
“His death is a relief to me and the family. He was too troublesome. There was a time he beat up an Oodua Peoples Cogress member while we were living in Idimu (Lagos). I spent a lot of money on the man’s treatment.
“A few weeks ago, he fought in Agege. He was seriously injured. He had been arrested many times by the police for several offences.”
The suspect, 48-year-old Adesina, who is in detention at the Agbado Police Division, said Azeez had beaten the two security guards that accompanied him to the scene, adding that he only wanted to prevail on him from causing further havoc when his gun exploded.
He said, “There was no light when we entered the building. He attacked us and two of my boys fled. I told him that I came to make peace. He said he didn’t fear my gun. He descended on me and wanted to snatch it. We were dragging it with each other when it exploded. I didn’t kill him. He would have killed me and his mother if he had access to the gun.”
The Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Police Command, ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident.
He said, “The Divisional Police Officer of the station, CSP Abioye Shittu, led operatives to the scene and the suspect has been arrested. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta.”
A woman, Biola Simon, has been arrested by the police in Lagos State for allegedly defrauding bank customers after giving them fake prophecies in the Dopemu area.
Simon, who came from Ibadan, Oyo State, was arrested on Thursday by the Dopemu Police Division, after one of her victims reported her to the police.While the suspect was arrested, it was learnt that other suspected accomplices fled.
Punch gathered that a sum of N150,000, which the woman had allegedly swindled out from her victim, was recovered by the policemen after the arrest.
A police source at the Dopemu division said Simon belonged to a four-member syndicate that specialised in defrauding unsuspecting bank customers in the area through fake prophecies.
He said,
“In her statement, she confessed that the syndicate’s mode of operation was to lurk around bank premises, while her role was to accost a bank customer suspected to be with money.
“The suspect explained that she would pretend that she was new in Lagos and asked for direction from the victim. Simon would subsequently make shocking spiritual revelations about her victim, after which she would advise that a special prayer must be offered for the victim.
“The next move was to take the victim to a nearby place where the three other accomplices were waiting and they would replace the money withdrawn by the victim with disposable papers, covered with a few naira notes.
“A man who the suspect tried to swindle on Thursday of N150,000 raised the alarm, and a police patrol team in the area apprehended Simon.”
A witness, Rafiu Jimoh, said the policemen had returned the money to the victim.
He said,
“The woman dressed responsibly, but she usually begged targeted customers coming out of the bank to direct her to an address. She is believed to use magical powers, as she will thereafter start giving revelations about her victim, luring the person to go for prayers with her.
“While the purported prayer is going on by the syndicate, the contents of the victim’s bag or purse will be replaced with papers covered with a few real notes. They will thereafter disappear with the money.
“The woman was arrested on Thursday by a police patrol team, but the three others escaped in a car. The stolen N150,000 was recovered and returned to the victim.”

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command arrested one Peace Chukwuemeka, for stealing a one-month-old baby from the baby’s mother.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Cordelia Nwawe, who disclosed this while addressing newsmen on the activities of the command in Uyo on Tuesday, November 8th, said that the suspect lived in the same compound with the mother of the baby at Mbak Itam in Itu Local Government Area.
Ms Nwame said that the family unit of the command through intelligence trailed the suspect, rescued and reunited the baby with her mother.
“In November, the ACID Section through the Family Unit recorded a great feat by bringing back a one month and some few days old baby to her mother in Akwa Ibom. The suspect, who has been married for some years without a baby, left Lagos state to Uyo, stayed in a compound in Mbak Itam with the intention to steal a baby from her neighbour. The family unit through intelligence report was able to rescue the baby back to the mother,” Mani said.
The baby’s mother, Fatima Ibrahim, said that the suspect was staying with them in the same compoun, adding that she “drugged” her to sleep before stealing her baby.
In her confessional statement, Peace Chukwuemeka said she was married for 10 years and was desperate to have a baby but however, denied drugging before stealing the baby.
“I did not give anything to the mother, it was a coincident she was asleep and I seized that opportunity to take the baby. I have married for 10 years now so I needed a baby of my own. I took the baby to my mother in the village but she refused to collect her from me. So I came back to Akwa Ibom and the owner of the baby started asking me of her baby, so I was arrested,” Chukwuemeka said.

A primary school teacher, identified as Collins Obi, has been arrested by policemen for allegedly having anal sex with his student.
Obi, 20, was arrested in Ibadan, Oyo State, after allegedly having anal sex with a 10-year old pupil in Asaka Itamaya area of the city.
The teacher was said to be taking the boy in extra mural classes when he lured him into a house in the neighbourhood and defiled him on Monday.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Mr. Adekunle Ajisebutu, said Obi was arrested following a report by the victim’s mother at the Iyaganku police station.
The victim had reported the abuse to his mother. Consequently, police detectives swooped on the neighbourhood and holed Obi out of his hiding.
According to Ajisebutu a Superintendent of Police (SP), the suspect confessed to the crime, claiming that he was introduced to sodomy by an older friend who is now at large.
The police spokesman said the victim was later taken to hospital for medical attention.

Officers of the Department of State Services (DSS) have raided two major Bureau de Change markets in Lagos and Abuja in a fresh attempt to end speculation in the foreign exchange transaction at the parallel market.
Sources at the market told Daily Trust that the DSS have earlier directed the officials of the BDCs association to peg the dollar at N400 while selling and N390 while buying from customers.
Immediately after the directives, the DSS operatives commenced the enforcement of the order by arresting those erring members that sold the dollar above N400 and or bought above N390 a dollar.
During the two-day operations, which took place between Tuesday and Wednesday, some traders were arrested.
Sources said about five operators were arrested in Abuja and Lagos as at yesterday.
When our reporter visited Zone 4, a cluster of BDC shops in Abuja, he noticed slow activities as both the traders and customers were jittery.
A trader who pleaded for anonymity said it was difficult to see the dollar to buy or sell in the market because, nobody was willing to sell at the new rates by the DSS.
He said when customers heard of the new rate of N390 a dollar they usually turned back.

Grace Egbon an elderly lady in Benin City, the Edo capital, has donated a goat to President Muhammadu Buhari to show her admiration for “his selfless lifestyle and passion to liberate the masses.”
Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo received the ‘unique gift’ on behalf of the president.
Egbon, a supporter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), registered in Ward 7, Oredo Local Government Area of Edo state, said she had longed to meet the President to show her admiration for his quality of leadership.
According to NAN, a window of opportunity opened to Egbon when the President was scheduled to commission the ultra-modern Samuel Ogbemudia College in Benin City, during his just concluded two-day working visit to Edo.
She braced the odds and came all the way with her surprise gift to the President which she had kept for the special occasion.
She tore through the thick crowd, making her way straight to the President who at the time had finished the official engagement and was heading for his waiting car.
Many in the crowd got emotional seeing the elderly lady pull through the crowd with the goat, determined to make a presentation to the President.
Gov. Oshiomhole, who noticed the security cordon between the lady and the President, came to her rescue.
He (Oshiomhole) alighted from the President’s convoy to receive the goat on behalf of the President,” a protocol official at the scene of the incident told NAN.
She thanked the President for accepting the gift which was handed over to protocol officials.
In his remarks on behalf of the President, Gov. Oshiomhole commended Grace for her kind gesture.
