Late Nigerian dignitary, Bola Ige was the governor of Oyo state during the Second Republic (1979-1983), and it was during his time that students enjoyed free education.
35 years ago, he wrote a letter which is seen in these photos, to students enjoying the free education in Oyo State, as they were about to go for their long holidays.
The letter as seen by many Nigerians, got them questioning: What happened to us?
A LinkedIn post by a career counsellor has gone viral after it advised women applying for jobs to leave their engagement rings at home when they go for a job interview.
Bruce Hurwitz stated that women should ditch their engagements rings because male interviewers will “assume you are high maintenance” and a woman will feel threatened by the size of your ring.
According to him:
“When a man sees that ring he immediately assumes you are high maintenance. When the woman at the office who has the largest diamond on her finger, sees that ring, she will realize that if you are hired she will fall to second place and will, therefore, not like you. Lose the ring!”
One woman apparently had emailed Hurwitz to tell him his advice had worked.
“She told me that the only thing she did differently at her last job interview, which resulted in the job offer, was not to wear the ring,” he writes.
“So lose the rock! And, if you don’t have one, but got engaged by signing a pre-nup, find a way to let male interviewers know that. They’ll respect you. (Women may as well, but I’m not certain that this is the case.)”
Despotic leader of North Korea, Kim Jong-un is set to punish his country’s Olympians who failed to meet his Rio Olympics medal target.
Kim Jong-un warned his country’s athletes to return with at least 5 gold medals and 12 other medals prior to the Games, or risk being sent to work in the coal mines.
But after the North Koreans limped back to Pyongyang with just seven medals, including two golds, its athletes could face the wrath of chubby despot Kim.
The Asian country could only manage two gold and four other medals and are awaiting their fate from the country’s number one citizen.
Expert on the secretive nation, Toshimitsu Shigemura, said:
“Those who won medals will be rewarded with better housing allocations, better rations, a car and maybe other gifts from the regime.
“But Kim is going to be angry and disappointed at these results.
“Those he feels have let him down are likely to be punished by being moved to poorer quality housing, having their rations reduced and, in the worst-case scenario, being sent to the coal mines as punishment.”
Another reason for getting punished by Kim is that they fraternized with bitter rivals South Korea who went home with 21 medals, including nine golds.
After leading the Nigerian U-23 Dream team to win Bronze in the just concluded Olympic games, coach of the team, Samson Siasia has explained how the money given to them by Japanese Plastic surgeon and billionaire Katsuya Takasu was shared.
The doctor had given the team $390,000 to share for winning the bronze medal, Nigeria’s only medal, at the Olympics.
Siasia also criticized the Nigerian Football Federation for their objections to the money gifted to the team saying that the investigations called for by the top dogs in the federation were unnecessary.
“What actually happened is that the man was just curious how a team that was neglected and abandoned could arrive Rio under five hours and defeat the Japanese team that had all they needed and have been put together for over three years, that was his amazement.” Siasia said explaining what transpired.
He continued,
“These guys who are saying they want to do all manner of checks, what have they done for us? Do you know that since we returned, nobody from the NFF or Ministry has called us to say that we did well. The president came and just talked and that was it, well it is not the first time he will be talking.
“When players don’t even have $100 dollars in their pocket and you want to come and preach to them.” Siasia said the entire amount of $390,000 was shared equally among all the members of the team including the supporting staff.
“The Japanese benefactor said $200,000 and $190,000 was supposed to be for bronze medal and it was split among the players and officials equally. It is not my personal money and this must be made clear.
“What I got was what every other player of official in the team got about $14,000 dollars each. The man came to Salvador where we played and gave $200,000 as draft to me and $190,000 to Mikel because he cannot write cheque to every member of the team, he made it simpler so that we all can share the money and now we are paying to the individual accounts of the boys.
“So make this issue clear to everybody that has been following it, the money was never meant for me or Mikel alone but for the entire team including the doctors and other backroom staff”.

A businessman, identified simply as Ogbaire, has allegedly murdered his associate, Lawrence Okoh, and buried his body in a shallow grave in Warri, Delta State.
Okoh, a native of Ubulu-Uku in Aniocha South Local Government Area of the state, left his Port Harcourt business outfit to supply generator spare parts to a customer in Warri.
After the supply on August 2, Okoh, fondly called Law, did not return home and police declared him missing. The deceased had, earlier that day, sent a text message to his wife that he would not make it back to Port Harcourt and that he would pass the night with his customer in Warri.
His wife contacted the customer, who claimed that he knew the deceased very well, but that he did not see him for over a period of time.
The police raided the spare parts market in Warri where the wife was able to identify some of the parts her husband left with on the fateful day.
The shop owner, where the parts were found, took the police to the person who supplied them. The suspect was the one who told Okoh’s wife that he had not seen her husband in a long while.
Ogbaire allegedly confessed to the police that he murdered Okoh and buried him in a shallow grave in an uncompleted building.
A senior police officer in Warri said Okoh’s decomposing body had been exhumed and released to the family in Ubulu- Uku for burial.
He said:
“The suspect has confessed to the crime that he killed Okoh in order not to pay him the money for the spare parts, he supplied him.”
The officer added that the suspect also confessed that he committed the act with another person. A family source said Okoh left behind twins.
“My cousin got married eight years ago and just got twins last year. The wife is now a widow while the twins, who are minors, will not see their father again.” When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Celestina Kalu, confirmed the story. She said: “The principal suspect had been arrested, after taking the police to the shallow grave. We have exhumed the body.”
Ubulu-Uku, Okoh’s hometown, has been thrown into mourning, NewTelegraph reports.
Yesterday, we brought y’all reports of a cosmetics company who claimed that wife of Billionaire, Dabota Lawson, plagiarized their products and used their designs for hers.
Well, the businesswoman has now published her correspondence with the company, confirming that such court application never occurred, that it was all a plan to malign her image and business.
She wrote:
False news!No such occurrence !! Natural Dermis Skincare never released such statement or filed any law suits. Let alone communicate with whoever started this weak thread.
This is just a bid to malign my image & business.
An easy bandwagon to jump on–
An extremely distasteful and disgraceful media hatchet job . Such lazy reporting that can get people into serious trouble . Shame!!! I have gotten in-touch with @naturaldermisskincare and will post their reply next .
Dear Queens, let’s continue to enjoy DABOTA COSMETICS as usual. We are here to stay FOREVER
A thrilling video which shows a woman predicting her own death days before she was killed in a suspected honour killing has hit the internet.
The woman, known as Soni, is seen speaking to camera from inside a toilet on a moving train in India.
She says:
“My father and my brother want to kill me, that’s why they are taking me back to my village. My life is in danger.” The 26-year-old, speaking into her headphone mouthpiece, adds:
“If something happens to me, these people will be responsible. I want to marry Imran.”
It is not clear when the video surfaced but it was widely circulated on Tuesday – by then, the woman was already dead.
According to NDTV, Indian police visited her village in Hathras in the state of Uttar Pradesh after coming across the clip.
They have reportedly filed a complaint and charged six members of her family, including her parents and four brothers – who are all believed to be at large.
Senior officer Ram Moorat Yadav said:
“With the help of the video clip we got all the information. “Treating it as an FIR [first information report], we have registered a complaint against six of them.”
It comes after the family, which lived in Mumbai, allegedly took Soni to their village in Uttar Pradesh after finding out about her relationship with another man.
Her body was exhumed on Tuesday, but a post-mortem examination was not able to establish how she died. Forensic tests are ongoing.
A neighbour, Mohammad Shahid, told the news channel:
“We were told the girl is dead. It was 5am. We went to the house and were told she was buried according to Islamic rituals.” It is believed that officers are also in the process of finding the man Soni mentions in the video, Imran.
The police say they do not have any details yet of when and where the video was filmed, but have said it is possible that someone filmed the video for her.
Typically, honour crimes involve violence committed by people who want to defend the reputation of their family or community.
Victims are often accused of bringing shame upon his or her family. This can happen when a person starts a relationship with someone of a different background or takes part in non-traditional activities.
One thing people should always note when they want to tell lies on Social media is the fact that there will always be people who have all the time in the world to point out your lie for you… Hehe. So you’d better structure your lie well before you make a total fool of yourself…
This twitter user shared a photo of herself wearing a ‘supposed‘ graduation robe and cap and shared it on twitter – saying despite the fact that she has a criminal record and people said she won’t make it in life, she still did!
Well, a tweep who has time in his hands did his homework on the photo and discovered some things were not right with the tweet – Ph.D graduates don’t wear standard caps & gowns, Yale University caps and robes are black not blue!
They also noted the date on the cap and the date she made the tweet. Savage!
A 50 year old mother of nine, is convinced that she is 15 months pregnant but she’s being countered by a doctor who’s saying she’s ‘just fat.‘
Linda Reeves, says she is certain a baby is growing outside her womb as she says she can feel it kicking and squirming. But despite her strong conviction she’s pregnant five scans have shown that there is nothing there, Mirror UK reports.
She said one doctor has even told her she is just ‘too fat’ and another has said she has a mental health problem and it’s a phantom pregnancy.
But she refuses to give up and is holding out hope doctors will give her a CAT scan.
Linda said:
“Nobody will take me seriously. I’ve had nine children and I know what it’s like to feel a baby inside me.
“I’ve had all the symptoms of pregnancy – sickness, backache and tiredness. I am absolutely certain that there is a baby there, but it is growing in the wrong place.”
One doctor told Linda her ‘pregnancy’ is simply due to overeating.
“He said I was just too fat. I was furious,” she said.
“I may not be the slimmest person in the world but I’ve actually lost weight because I’ve been so stressed since all this started in May last year.”
Linda says strangers regularly notice her protruding belly and ask when her baby is due. She said:
“When I tell people I’ve been pregnant for 15 months they don’t believe me. I don’t blame them.”
During a visit to her sister, Linda said she persuaded her sibling’s GP to listen into her tummy with a Doppler machine.
“I heard the baby’s heartbeat! I know that sound so well, how could I not recognise it,” she said.
“If by some chance I am wrong, then I want to know exactly what is happening inside me. What if it’s cancer? I have a right to be treated seriously.”
The mum, whose children are aged between five and 24, is desperate for a full CT scan to discover exactly what is happening inside her.
The stunning Nollywood actress, who has some fans drooling over her slim body with others criticizing her says she scared of marriage.
Her reason why?! She spoke to Star gist in a recent interview that it’s because of the high cases of divorces in the movie industry.
She’s quoted as saying:
I am scared of marriage, we see divorce everyday. Although no one goes into marriage believing she would soon jump out of it.
I strongly believe that before a couple considers divorce, they must have put in their best to make it work, all to no avail. Marriage in the limelight is not easy, even those outside it are not surviving easily.
“For me, before I take the decision, it just has to be right.
“Marriage is always going to be at the right time, and don’t ask me when is the right time. I’m single but I’m not searching, Why would I?
“Well, I am seeing somebody, but starting my own family I can’t say for now. But I will do that at the right time.
“I don’t like doing something and later jump out of it. I take my time to do whatsoever I want to do making sure it is the right decision.
I have learnt a lot from other people’s mistake and that has helped me a lot.
Being in a relationship alone is not easy not to mention marriage, I just want to do it right to avoid regret. So I am treading carefully.
So, a truck driver (Pictured above) parked his large truck in the middle of the road (A highway along Ore-Ijebu road), got down from the vehicle, laid his mat on the ground and began to pray.
His action, of course caused a gridlock on the road. Apparently, some found it amusing, came down from their vehicles and began to take photos.

A poor Indian man was left with no choice other than to carry his dead wife on his shoulder for seven miles when a hospital would not pay for her to be taken home.
A footage which has surfaced online shows an impoverished man carrying the body of his dead wife along a road after the hospital she died in allegedly failed to provide an ambulance.
Dana Majhi, was filmed with his wife over his shoulders wrapped in sheets and his heartbroken teenage daughter by his side as he headed towards his home nearly 50 miles from the hospital in Bhawanipatna town, India.
By the time an ambulance arrived, courtesy of local youths who alerted officials, Mr Majhi had walked over seven miles towards his home in Melghar village.
Mr Majhi’s 42-year-old wife died from tuberculosis on Wednesday morning and he said that he requested a vehicle to transport the body home for the last rites.
However, he claimed that there was no response, that hospital staff insisted that he move the body and that he couldn’t afford a private ambulance.
He told Indian Express:
‘I requested everyone, but no one listened. What option did I have other than carrying her?’
He added: ‘Since I am a poor man and could not hire a private vehicle, I had no choice,’ according to the BBC.

Pa Michael Obi, dad of national Under-23 team captain, Mikel Obi, has aired his disappointment over the treatment of the team after winning bronze at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
He said that he had expected his son to lead the team to the country to be given a rapturous welcome and a presidential reception, but lamented the majority of the players left for their clubs after beating Honduras 3-2 in the bronze medal match to win Nigeria’s only medal at the Rio Games.
“I was surprised to read that there are no plans to receive the team. It is very unfair, especially after the team won the only medal at the Games,” the Chelsea midfielder’s father told Punch in Jos.
“The least they had expected was a hero’s welcome and a presidential handshake to appreciate their superlative performance, especially when nobody had expected that they would go far at the Games.
“I had expected Mikel to lead the team back to Nigeria, accorded a befitting reception, before going back to their various clubs.
“This is what an appreciating appreciate sports authorities and the Federal Government would have done. We are all aware of the shoddy preparations for the Games and how they were stranded in another country before they got to the venue, a few hours to the start of their first game against Japan.
Despite this, they struggled to make the country proud and if this is all they could get for their efforts, I think it’s very unfortunate.”

Now this is just savage mehn! Y’all know how no one can shade Daddy Freeze and go scot free, his reprisal attack is just gonna be as brutal as he can possibly make it to be.
Yesterday, comedian Bovi, threw a subtle shade at the OAP – the same yesterday, the OAP replied to the shade but spited the comedian’s best friend and colleague, Basketmouth.
In a photo he has since deleted, he could be seen pecking Basketmouth’s wife, Elsie, back in the days when he was still dating her before Basketmouth picked up the OAP’s vomit and made it into one heck of a fine dish… (Pardon my metaphor)
The OAP shared the photo with the caption:

A 27-year-old man, Chigozie Egegonye, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly planning the kidnap of his sister, identified only as Franca.
Franca and her four children had been declared missing since April 2016, when they suddenly disappeared from their home on Mayowa Street, Ago-Palace Way, Okota, Lagos.
PUNCH Metro gathered that Egegonye told his childhood friend, Michael Oluchukwu, that despite the wealth of his sister, she was stingy.
Oluchukwu, a cobbler, sent a text message to the victim, giving her an ultimatum of 12 hours to pay N300,000 or risk being kidnapped and killed.
It was learnt that Franca called the suspect and pleaded for her life, saying she could only afford N50,000.
Oluchukwu reportedly agreed and sent her his account details.
However, it was learnt that the victim had yet to send the money when she and her four children went missing.
Punch gathered that the victim’s husband petitioned the State Department of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba, after which detectives launched a manhunt for the suspects.
A police source said investigations revealed that Egegonye was behind the plot.
He said,
“Chigozie (Egegonye) and Michael (Oluchukwu) are childhood friends. After losing contact, they reunited in Jakande Estate, Isolo, where Michael had his workshop.
“On April 13, 2016, Chigozie went to Michael’s shop and told him he had a sister who was so stingy that each time he demanded money from her, she wouldn’t give him. He asked him to send a threat message to her on the phone.
“They told the woman how she normally took her children to school every day. They said she should pay N300,000 within 12 hours or risk being eliminated together with her four children.”
The source told PUNCH Metro that Franca, who immediately became jittery, called back the phone number and said she couldn’t raise the sum within the time frame, but could afford N50,000.
The suspect was said to have sent a First Bank account number 3034268561 with the name Chigozie Egegonye.
Another source said Franca and the children went missing on that same day when the money had yet to be paid.
He explained that Franca’s husband got home only to discover that their apartment had been emptied.
He said,
“The man got home on that day and discovered that his wife and the children were missing, including his two cars. He found the house scattered and all the luggage of the wife and children taken away.
“The man said he received a text message from his wife detailing the death threat she received. He said he called his in-laws to tell them he had not seen his wife and the children and they told him to go and find her. All of them thought he masterminded the kidnap of his wife and children.”
PUNCH Metro gathered that Franca’s husband wrote a petition to the police afterwards, which led to the arrest of Egegonye and Oluchukwu.
A source said the police used the account number and phone number of Oluchukwu to track him down.
He later led operatives to Oluchukwu’s house where he was also arrested.
However, Oluchukwu denied kidnapping his sister, saying she fled the house due to the disagreement she had been with her husband.
He said,
“My sister and her husband are rich, but they always quarrel in the house. She had wanted to quit the marriage, but I begged her. My sister fears a lot. I and my friend sent a threat message to her line and she used that opportunity to run away from the house. I blame myself for everything that happened. I am now repentant. I wasn’t praying at home before I came here. Now, I lead the devotion in the cell.”
Egegonye, on his part, said greed and ignorance pushed him into the act, saying he had learnt his lesson.
Punch adds that the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, said she would call back their correspondent, but she had yet to do so as of press time.
Joachim Iroko, the man who named his dog after the president and was arraigned for conduct likely to cause breach of peace has finally regained freedom, four days after he was remanded in Ibara Prisons in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Iroko, 40, a father of two and a native of Delta State was arraigned on Monday before an Ota Magistrate’s Court, Ogun State, on a two-count charge and was subsequently granted bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties, who must be regular tax payers in the state, in like sum.
However, the accused could not perfect the bail conditions until yesterday. Iroko, who spoke with newsmen shortly after he left the prison ward in Abeokuta, described his experience as good and educative.
When asked how he felt after leaving the prison yard, he said:
“I am so happy. It is a joy to me. I have missed my family; that was most painful. “Prison is a place to be experienced in one’s life. It is like a rehabilitation home: you learn many things there and there are many people you may not have the opportunity to talk to.
“But in prison, you will sit down with them and discuss. There are many things you take for granted, but when you go to prison you know there is law. The only thing I am regretting about my coming to prison is the intimidation from the Hausa community. Going to prison is a golden moment for me.”
Explaining why he named his dog Buhari, he said:
“As a matter of fact, they misunderstood me. I have three dogs: one bears Obama, one bears Joe, an abbreviation of my name. The third is named Buhari. I named these dogs after my role models. My late dog was named after Nelson Mandela. I don’t just give any name to my dogs. I give reputable names to my dogs.
It is love I have for Buhari; he is my role model. Buhari is not the President of the North. He is the President of Nigeria. I see no reason why Northerners should intimidate me: Nigeria is one.
I see no reason why they will be intimidating me. It is my right to name my dog any name. Thank God, I have regained my freedom. The most painful thing is the way they treated my dog. I am not happy that they killed my dog, while I was in detention.
It is my dog, it is my pet. I love my dogs. They have no right to kill my dog. Nigerians should know that there are other dogs in other areas that bear Jack as name. Why is Buhari so special. It is a name that has been existing for several years.”
Matters took a funny twist when Iroko was stranded after he was released, as he did not have transport fare to go to his Sango residence.
Meanwhile, the Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, has said the President must be having a good laugh over the dog saga.
Garba Shehu tweeted:
“People should listen to the real story behind this dog incident and not waste precious time seeking the hand of the President in a laughable incident! President Buhari must be having a good laugh over this whole thing, as it is cheap and sensational to say he can order a police action against a caricature.”
He further tweeted that anybody linking Buhari to the dog incident is displaying ignorance.
Popular broadcaster and compere, Frank Edoho, has revealed his disgust for popularity and fame. He said he hates being popular.
Edoho, who became popular for being the host of the ‘Nigerian Edition of Who Wants To be A Millionaire’, told Hip TV he sees himself as a normal person who likes privacy, his wife and kids including his PlayStation.
The TV host said, “I hate being popular. I like privacy, football, my children and my wife. Entertainment is a gift and a curse of course.
“Me I love things about entertainment, I love broadcasting that was what I was meant to do but I don’t like the fame that comes with it because I’m a regular guy.
“If someone approaches me I’m in a bad mood just because people know me doesn’t mean I have to lighten up for you because I’m just a normal person but I feel that some people would not identify with it so I need to change because I am a public person.”
He dished out advice to up and coming entertainers saying, “Anywhere you go, don’t assume that people know you because some actually don’t know you and they might be like ’Ah, who is this one, what is he / she feeling like? So it’s better to introduce yourself humbly to avoid unnecessary embarrassment.
“But I don’t like the fame that comes with entertainment. That’s why I’m not involved in movie. I haven’t been an actor; I have not acted in anything because I don’t want to be involved in more fame.
In a recent statement, former president Jonathan said he handed over the best Nigerian government, and the largest economy in Africa to president Buhari.
“I took over a Nigeria that was the second largest economy in Africa with a GDP of $270.5 billion in 2009, I handed over a Nigeria that had grown to become the largest economy in Africa and the 24th largest economy in the World, with a GDP of $574 billion.
I inherited a Nigeria in which the trains were not working, and handed over a Nigeria in which citizens can safely travel by trains again.
I inherited a Nigeria that was a net importer of cement, and handed over a Nigeria that is a net exporter of cement.
In 2009, the richest Nigerian was the 5th richest man in Africa, but I handed over a Nigeria that produced the richest man in Africa.
The former President stated that democracy will continue to grow in the African continent if leaders value the process of elections more than the product of the process.
Even in the 2015 general elections in my country, Nigeria, there was potential for major crisis if I was not a President duly elected by the will of the people.
The campaigns leading to the elections almost polarized the country into Christian vs Muslims and North vs South divide. Most World leaders were worried that our elections will result into major crisis.
Some pundits even from here in the United States said that those elections would spell the end of Nigeria and that we would cease to exist as a nation because of the polls.
That is where the leadership question comes into play. As a leader that was duly elected by the people, I considered the people’s interest first.
How do I manage my people to avoid killings and destruction of properties?
With the interest of the people propelling all the decisions I took, we were able to sail through.
Indeed, we sail through because I refused to interfere with the independence of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, having appointed a man I had never met in my life to run it.
My philosophy was simple. For elections to be credible, I as a leader, must value the process more than the product of the process. And the citizens must have confidence in the electoral body”.
Aftermath of the 2016 Rio Olympics in Brazil where Nigeria won only a Bronze Medal in male soccer, the Senate may probe the roles of the of Minister of Sport, Solomon Dalung and the Nigeria Olympics Committee (NOC) over the poor performance of the country’s contingent to the global event.
The chairman of the Senate Committee on Sports, Senator Joe Obinna Ogba (PDP, Ebonyi), disclosed this during an interview with journalists in Abuja on Thursday.
Ogba, who was part of the official delegation to Brazil, said a lot of factors ranging from funding to logistics contributed to Nigeria’s no-show performance at the Olympics Games, saying that the Senate will look into the circumstances when it resume from recess next month.
