The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) through its Lagos Zone Coordinator, Prof. Olusoji Sowande at a news conference in Lagos on Tuesday, threatened to embark on a nationwide strike in regards to its demands for the implementation of its 2009 agreement with the Federal Government.
Sowande said the 2009 FG/ASUU agreement, Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on funding of state universities, breaches of the conditions of service and re-negotiation of the agreement, exclusion of Nigerian universities from Pension Management Company and non-release of NEEDS Assessment Intervention Fund were still being ignored. The
He said:
“The review of the agreement should have been undertaken in 2012 and 2015 but that did not happen. “The implication is that our union has shown enough patriotism and understanding on these matters in the last four years.
“We are perplexed and disappointed that both the Federal and State Governments are not responding to our consistent appeals to bring about genuine transformation in the education sector.
He said they would rather not embark on a strike because it is the Students and ASUU members that end up suffering. Adding:
“It is unfortunate that the only language government appears to respect and listens to is that of industrial action like strike”.
Facebook Founder, Mark Zuckerberg, yesterday, arrived Nigeria unannounced. The 32-year-old tech enterpreneur surprisingly made a sudden visit and inspection of activities at the Co-Creation Hub, Yaba Lagos.
His arrival to Nigeria is not unconnected to the ‘Facebook for developers’ workshop’ for Nigerian engineers, product managers and partners holding today in Lagos. The event is expected to help the engineers build better applications and monetise them more effectively.
Before his arrival, it was earlier announced that the company’s Director of Global product Partnerships, Nigeria’s Ime Archibong was to lead speakers to the event where Facebook would unveil a ten-year roadmap that can help improve Nigeria’s economy Facebook is an online social networking service based in Menlo Park, California, United States, which Zuckerberg and his fellow Harvard College students and roommates, Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes formed on February 4, 2004.
After its initial public offering, IPO in February 2012, Facebook began selling stock to the public three months later, reaching an original peak market capitalization of $104 billion. On July 13, 2015, it became the fastest company in the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index to reach a market cap of $250 billion.
As of March this year, Facebook had hit over 1.65 billion monthly active users out of which 7.1 million people are daily users from Nigeria. This makes the country Africa’s biggest user of the social media platform.
However, Vanguard gathered that it was for security reasons that Zuckerberg’s plan to visit Nigeria and his eventual arrival was kept top secret.
A close source who spoke to Vanguard said:
“It was a top secret and nobody was meant to know before his arrival. It was actually for security reasons but now that he is here, he would be able to interact with tech professionals and other Nigerians today in a press conference at Eko Hotel and Suites tomorrow (today).”
Being his first trip to Africa, Zuckerberg on arrival met with developers and partners, and also explored Nollywood.
One of his first stops on the trip was to visit a ‘Summer of Code Camp’ at the Co-Creation Hub (CcHub) in Yaba, known as the Silicon Valley of Nigeria where young developers learn how to code and develop their solutions while looking for mentors and angel investors.
At CcHub, Zuckerberg met with developers like Temi Giwa, who runs a platform called Life Bank that makes blood available when and where it is needed in Nigeria.
Life Bank saves lives by mobilizing blood donations, taking inventory of all blood available in the country, and delivering blood in the right condition to where it is needed.
Thrilled by level of technology development at the CcHub, Mark Zuckerberg, said, “This is my first trip to sub-Saharan Africa. I’ll be meeting with developers and entrepreneurs, and learning about the startup ecosystem in Nigeria. The energy here is amazing and I’m excited to learn as much as I can. “The first place I got to visit was the Co-creation Hub Nigeria (CcHUB) in Yaba. I got to talk to kids at a summer coding camp and entrepreneurs who come to CcHub to build and launch their apps. I’m looking forward to meeting more people in Nigeria.”
TY Bello releases a new single titled LAND OF PROMISE (It is well). A comforting song with a sound that resonates across humanity itself.
In her own words, she writes. “I finished writing this song on my travel to the destroyed parts of Northern Nigeria. I saw first hand what it means to lose hope and how powerful and necessary hope is in moving forward. This song put hope on my lips and I hope it fires up the same in the heart of everyone that listens”.
A shocking incident has seen two women stripped and mercilessly beaten by an angry mob before they were rescued by the police. The women were said to have conned a man about Sh17,000 (N52,000) in Embu town of Kenya.
According to a report by Nairobi News, Embu Deputy Police boss Ziro Arome said the women, identified as Wincate Mukami and Faith Wangui, had been moving around town under the guise of selling SIM cards while tricking unsuspecting people.
But, their cups got full after they conned a businessman on Monday evening. The man raised alarm which attracted people.
“Had the police not arrived on time, maybe they would have been harmed more. They had visited a businessman’s shop and tricked him to give them the money promising to demonstrate something. They have been conning people under the guise of selling SIM cards,” said Mr Arome.
The police boss said the officers who rescued them salvaged the torn clothes with which they wrapped themselves. Mr Arome urged members of public to stop engaging in mob justice and report the matters to police for prosecution.
A third accomplice escaped during the 5.30pm incident. The suspects are being held at the Embu Police Station.

Should a boyfriend post about his girlfriend on Facebook to prove that he’s in love with her?
This is a question that most ladies have been fighting with for a long time now.
In the beginning of a relationship, lovers, mostly ladies, are ok with the fact that their boyfriend doesn’t post their pictures on social media despite the fact that they are posting pictures of others.
But ladies, usually get concerned when the boyfriend hasn’t posted a single picture and they have dated long enough.
Long enough, in this context, depends on how the lady feels about the relationship’s speed.
He’s he taking too long? Is he taking things slow?
A woman took to Facebook to share such a scenario and got many other ladies discussing the topics.
She posted:
My boyfriend and I have been together for eight years, but our social media has no indication of our relationship. He doesn’t feel comfortable posting about me but posts about all other aspects and friends in his life (including women). While me I’m there posting about him whenever we are celebrating something special.
Valentines, anniversaries and birthday or anything special, he has never posted mine but he posts about others. Really????
Am I being overdramatic? Is it silly to care about social media? Does he not respect me? Should I break things off with him and just remain friends?
There are so many reasons why a guy might choose to keep his dating life private. But eight years and never said anything about the love of your life – and talking about women’s accomplishments and special occasions – can be a little too much don’t you think?
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is visiting Nigeria this week on his first trip to Africa, using his time in the country to visit the Yaba technology hub in Lagos, meet with developers and partners, and explore Nollywood.
Zuckerberg is in Nigeria to listen and learn and take ideas back to California on how Facebook can better support tech development and entrepreneurship across Africa.
One of his first stops on the trip was to visit a ‘Summer of Code Camp’ at the Co-Creation Hub (CcHub) in Yaba, known as the Silicon Valley of Nigeria.
CcHub opened in 2011 and at the time didn’t even have an office. Five years later they fill three floors and the roof of a building. At CcHub people can learn how to code, developers can get help launching their first products, and find mentors and funding.
At CcHub Zuckerberg met with developers like Temi Giwa, who runs a platform called Life Bank that makes blood available when and where it is needed in Nigeria. Life Bank saves lives by mobilizing blood donations, taking inventory of all blood available in the country, and delivering blood in the right condition to where it is needed.
After visiting CcHub Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, said: “This is my first trip to sub-Saharan Africa.
Meeting developers at Andela
Mark then went to Andela, an engineering organization that is building the next generation of technical leaders in Africa.
Andela is a business that recruits the most talented technologists in Africa and shapes them into world-class developers through a four-year technical leadership program. In the two years since it was founded, Andela has accepted just over 200 engineers from a pool of more than 40,000 applicants. Andela developers spend six months mastering a technical stack and contributing to open source projects before being placed with global technology companies as full-time, distributed teammates, working out of Andela headquarters in Lagos and Nairobi.
Earlier this year, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative invested in Andela after being impressed by the company’s innovative model of learning and its drive to connect the global technology ecosystem with the most talented developers in Africa.
Seni Sulyman, Director, Andela Lagos, said: “We are excited and honored to welcome Mark Zuckerberg to Lagos. His visit reinforces not only his support of Andela’s mission, but his belief that indeed the next generation of great technology leaders will come out of Lagos, Nigeria and cities across Africa. Andela has created a platform for passionate, driven software developers and engineers to break into the global tech ecosystem, but the barriers to entry are still very high. Mark’s visit demonstrates to all Nigerian developers and entrepreneurs that they’ve caught the attention of the tech world, and they are capable of succeeding on a truly global level.”
At the end of the day Zuckerberg stopped by an Express WiFi stand in Lagos owned by Rosemary Njoku. Facebook’s Express WiFi lets entrepreneurs like Rosemary set up a hot spot to help their community access apps and services built by local developers.

According to her, “I have come to win souls for the Lord my father. Recently he called me and said I needed to take a time out from what I’m doing and face his own. It was like a joke and you know, you can’t do anything when God calls you so I had to answer ‘Here I’m.’ Before you can be somebody who has a voice, you must have gone through a lot so you can always use yourself as an example. So many women call me on phone to say I’m a single mother and I tell them it is not a crime to be a single mother because I was a single mother, when they complain my husband has done this, I tell them I once had a husband like that too.”

Since releasing his breakthrough single, Eleko, Mayorkun has witnessed a rapid rise to fame.
However, not many have explored the story behind the Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) star’s journey to fame especially how he was signed by one of Nigeria’s biggest music export – Davido.
In recent interview with YNaija, Mayorkun explained he had just quit his job at the bank following an offer from another one when he got the call from Davido – who had discovered him from an Instagram video he had done of a piano cover of the Sony Music star’s song – The Money featuring Olamide.
He said,
“I was planning on moving to another bank because i didn’t like this one because the pay was not just it. The other bank was offering more so i was planning on going there. The day i wrote my resignation letter, was the day i got a call from him (Davido).”
In the course of the interview, the DMW singer talked about his dislike for acting even though his mum, Toyin Adewale is a popular Nollywood actress and the musical genes that runs in his family.
Many people of course will be surprised to see that the MAVIN recording artiste, is just getting his car gift, the reward for winning the Next Rated Headies 2015 Award.
Reekado Banks bagged the award, beating his Mavin label mate Korede Bello, then signed YBNL rapper, Lil Kesh and G-Worldwide singer Kiss Daniel, among others – the result of which YBNL boss, Olamide, didn’t find justifiable, causing him to slam the organizers of the event on stage, arguing that his then artiste, Lil Kesh, deserved to win the award.
We needn’t speak much of the Social media stir it caused at the time cause it still rings in our head every time we hear “Back to Back” and all – good thing the YBNL boss cleared the air after he tendered an apology months later.

While social media was awash with heartwarming birthday wishes for Funke Akindele as she clocked 39 on Wednesday, August 24, one person that seems to have missed – or ignored – her one-time frequent collaborator’s big day is Eniola Badmus.
Colleagues, fans and well wishers showered Funke with loving messages, but it is worth noting that Eniola, who got her big break in Funke’s hit movie, Jenifa, didn’t do any of such – either on Instagram or Twitter.
In fact, she only had three tweets on the day, with one being a birthday shout-out (not to Funke), while she refrained from posting any pictures on her Instagram.
Uche Jombo, Kate Henshaw, Kaffy and Eniola Badmus at Funke’s birthday party in 2014.
However, there is no compulsion in sending birthday wishes to Funke on social media, as the plump actress could have other ways of reaching out, even as she maintains a huge social media presence and activeness.
In an attempt to clear the air on reports of animosity between the duo, Eniola said in an interview with City People over a year ago,
‘the rumour that I and Funke Akindele are in a serious cold war is not true. I can never engage in a fight with her because she is a strong pillar behind me in the industry. She brought me into the industry, and I have featured in so many movies through her before my name got registered in people’s minds. So, why should I be fighting with her?’
The last time both Nollywood actresses were seen in public together was almost two years ago and there is huge doubt all is still rosy between the duo.
Actress, Rita Edochie shared pictures of her Made-up face..and trolls couldn’t help but go all berserk on the actress.
Below is what she wrote for critics and trolls who made fun of her heavy makeup.
I am a PRETTY MAMA. GOD i thank you for the way you moulded me SO make i carry go. I can never be YOU. I am who i am and that makes me a UNIQUE person. The good thing is, if you don’t notice my BEAUTY, u must notice my #BLACK EYE PENCIL# ?????????????????????
