Gene Wilder (real name Jerome Silberman) the star of the classic movie Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory passed on yesterday, August 28, 2016 from complications arising from Alzheimer’s disease at age 83.

His death was announced in a statement by his nephew that read, “It is with indescribable sadness and blues, but with spiritual gratitude for the life lived that I announce the passing of husband, parent, and universal artist Gene Wilder, at his home in Stamford, Connecticut. It is almost unbearable for us to contemplate our life without him.”

Gene Wilder made most of our childhoods (or young adulthood) memorable with his role in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. He also starred in other classics like The Producers and Young Frankenstein. He is survived by his fourth wife, Karen Boyer who he got married to in 1991 and his nephew.

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command, Abdulmajid Ali, says the case of Joe Chinakwe, who named his dog Buhari, has no connection with President Muhammadu Buhari.

The AIG said the man named after his neighbour’s father and not the President.

He said Chinakwe was not arraigned for naming the dog Buhari, but for inscribing the name on both sides of the dog and parading it around the Ketere area of Sango Ota, in the Ado Odo Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State, adding that his behaviour was capable of causing a breach of the peace.

Chinakwe, who had been released on bail, was arraigned after his neighbour, Halilu Umar, whose late father bore Buhari, reported him to the police.

In a statement on Monday, by the zone 2 command spokesperson, SP Muyiwa Adejobi, the AIG, stated that the case was misconstrued as an attack on the President.

The statement read in part,

“The case has nothing to do with the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Mohammad Buhari, but with one Alhaji Buhari,the biological father of the complainant, Alhaji Halilu Umar.”

“It is fundamental to state that the man was not charged to court for christening his dog Buhari, but for the behaviour of the suspect and circumstances surrounding the matter when Mr. Joe (Chinakwe), who had been having conflicts with his neighbour,(complainant) named his dog Buhari, his neighbour’s father’s name, inscribed Buhari on both sides of the said dog, and started parading the dog with swagger among his neighbours and traders who are mostly northerners.”

In what will come across as a really shocking development, a pastor has been said to have ‘married’ a woman and her daughter.

The pastor identified as one Timothy Ngwu, is currently facing the law over an allegation of misconduct.

Pastor Ngwu was on Monday docked at an Enugu North Magistrates’ Court for allegedly marrying another man’s wife and daughter.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the pastor’s wife, Veronica Ngwu, was said to have petitioned the court over the development.

The victims whom Mr. Ngwu converted to his “wives” were said to be members of his church: Gods’ Favour Ministry, Nsukka.

One of the victims, Calista Omeye, however, told the court that her husband, Fidelis Omeye, had persuaded her to meet the pastor as he wanted her to do the will of God through the pastor.

“My husband was a member of the church and he introduced me to the church, because he said that the pastor had a revelation for me (Calista),” Mrs. Omeye said.

She said the revelation had to do with the will of God “but he later left the church but I refused to leave the church with him.

“I have 10 children for him and we were all members of the church before he quitted and I had a baby for the pastor but the baby died after some weeks,” she told the court.

She said that it was with her husband’s consent that their daughter was given to the pastor in marriage.

“It is not true that I gave out our daughter in marriage to the pastor without the consent of my husband, he was aware of everything,” she said.

Mr. Ngwu, who hailed from Ihe-Owerre, Nsukka, was absent from the court as he was said to be on admission at a hospital in Enugu.

The presiding magistrate, R.I. Oruruo, adjourned hearing in the matter to September 26.
