Two sisters whose parents are currently in South Africa have been confirmed dead and five others hospitalised following a major accident that occurred at the popular Oakland Amusement Park Enugu.
The deceased Onyinyechi Ozumba (5) and Ebubechi Ozumba (8), all natives of Anambra State had joined other children at the park to catch fun before they met their untimely death.
The children, Daily Sun learnt were brought to Nigeria about a year ago to get acclimatised while their parents stayed back in South Africa.
Although the cause of the accident has not been confirmed, the owner of the park, Sir Odega Jideonwu told a government team set up to investigate the accident that the incident occurred while the children were riding on the Tea Cup ride, one of the facilities in the park.
Said he; “we had two casualties and four other children who sustained injuries. Right now, we cannot say exactly, what caused the accident.
“We have been operating the place for about four years and we had to undergo a lot of training and certification to have that park. We have a trained first aid experts and he was on hand to apply first aid but the injuries were so serious that we had to immediately evacuate the children to the hospital and that was done.
“I know what it means to be a father and I know what it takes to lose a child. It’s an extremely painful thing. I have been very disturbed. The entire management and staff of Oakland have been very disturbed. My children are disturbed, these are children of about the same age, and they are disturbed because it gets back to them. They were once in the same school with these children so it’s been a very tough time.”
Jideonwu however, dissociated himself from earlier media reports on the incident insisting that the company has not made an official statement on the tragedy.
The committee headed by the Commissioner for Enugu State Capital Development Authority, Hon. Chidi Aroh who visited the five injured children including the operator of the Tea Cup ride at the Niger Foundation Hospital, Enugu expressed happiness over their responses to treatment.
The commissioner described the incident as unfortunate and expressed concern that it happened at one of the most resourceful recreation centres in Enugu. He said that the facility had to be sealed up considering the number of children that visit the park on a daily basis.
Aroh noted that his committee had to visit the facility and all those injured and as well commiserate with the family that lost its children as directed by the governor.

Although, there are usually arguments and fights when couples marry out of their tribes; they are bound to face and experience enmity from their partners’ families.
Despite all these, couples still find a way of sealing the gap between the torn families with their love. Yoruba and Igbo are two major tribes in Nigeria.
Both are powerful and represent a large portion of the population. There is an interaction between them just like with any other tribe in Nigeria, However, when the issue of marriage comes into play they handle it with sentiments. There are certain qualities possessed by ladies who are Igbo.
Just like each tribe has its own peculiarities, there are some things that are synonymous to Igbo women. They are basically important things one has to know before marrying an Igbo woman. This would help the relationship to thrive well and would help them reduce the chances of getting divorced.
Yoruba men who fall in love with Igbo ladies must have seen some of these traits and qualities in the women before deciding to marry them.
They know the battle they have to fight with that desire of theirs yet they are not discouraged. As liberal as a family could be, the members would always express their desire for their sons and daughters to marry within the clan or tribe.
They would only accept the proposal in order not to ruin the happiness of their children. Find below some of the reasons why Yoruba men marry Igbo ladies:
1. Igbo women are home builders
It would be nice for us not to be sentimental when considering this issue. Igbo women are extremely dedicated in marriage.
Now there would always be a few stray ones like we have in other tribes too; but when it comes to the effort they put into marriages, those ladies are quite commendable. Marriage means a great deal to them and divorce is a word they do not really entertain. Yoruba men go for them because they see the prospects in them.

Defiant Turkish civilians were captured climbing on to tanks and yanking soldiers from their vehicles during the failed coup attempt by the nation’s armed forces.
People across the capital of Ankara marched onto the streets to rise up against the army after the military intervention was staged earlier this evening.
President Erdogan had encouraged people to fight against the military planning the coup by saying:
‘They can come with their tanks and cannons and try to show what they can do, we can show the tanks who is powerful.’
“Those who are in this illegal act will pay the highest price,” he added, saying it would not be correct to describe the move as a “coup”.
In a shocking on-lone video groups of Erdogan supporters were seen pulling soldiers from the turret of their tank and throwing them onto the ground as they chanted in support of the Premier.
In another short clip groups of men were seen chanting at soldiers rolling through the streets of the Turkish capital in tanks.
During the coup attempt, some anti govt people had celebrated military intervention by gathering on the streets and waving Turkish flags.
They said they were unhappy about the way President Erdorgan was leading the country towards an Islamic state and the way he tries to trample on religious freedom in the country. After entering the capital soldiers seized the weapons of police units near the presidential palace and there was shooting near the police HQ.
Hostages were apparently being held at the military headquarters in the capital Ankara. Military jets and helicopters circled overhead.
‘Turkish armed forces have completely taken over the administration of the country to reinstate constitutional order, human rights and freedoms, the rule of law and the general security that was damaged,’ said the statement.
Turkish state news agency reports a death toll of 90 dead people and 1,154 wounded in Turkey coup attempt .
The report further states that nearly 1,563 soldiers at the military Headquarter surrendered and have been arrested by the Turkish Govt.
A military coup has been attempted by the mlitary forces in the Republic of Turkey to remove President Recep Tayyip Erdogan from power.
This is according to emerging reports from Ankara, the nation’s capital.
The Turkish Prime Minister, Binali Yildirim, according to several media outlets announced that the government would not allow a coup attempt to take place and that he would uphold democracy.
Reuters news reported that “Turkish prime minister says military action being taken without chain of command.”
The Telegraph in the UK have said that low flying jets and gunfire were heard in Ankara and that the State TV TRT is reportedly off air.
Turkish citizens have been uploading cell phone videos of tanks rolling through streets and of military fighter jets flying very low over cities.
The military issued a statement saying that “the power of the country has been seized in its entirety” on the NTV television, according to the UK Telegraph.
Meanwhile, President Erdogan has urged Turkey people to take to the streets.

“Although some soldiers managed to get there but a lot of harm had been done to the building, while the Christians ran away in different directions to avoid being killed”, the source hinted.

“The security man in the church premises was beaten to pulp. Some women who were holding a prayer meeting were chased away. The seminarian who is resident in the premises was also beaten up and chased away.”
Just last week, Mrs Eunice Olawale Elisha, a mobile preacher of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) was killed by some fanatical Muslims in Kubwa, FCT.

A shocking incident has left twins dead after their jealous stepmother allegedly used rat poison to kill the twin babies identified as Hussani and Hussain.

It is unclear how the stepmother executed the heinous act without the mother of the twins knowing.
A business woman identified as Oluwabunmi Balogun has told an Igando customary court her husband has once attempted to sleep with their teenage housekeeper.
She made the disclosure when she testified in a divorce petition filed by her husband on Thursday.
“When I went for a vigil, my 12-year-old housekeeper rushed to meet me in the church at about 12 am, she was half n*ked, telling me that my husband wanted to sleep with her.
“She stayed with me through the vigil and the following morning, I took the girl to my husband’s room to have her repeat herself in his presence.’’
Oluwabunmi said that her husband sent the housekeeper packing after the confrontation, adding that “I also caught him and my friend’s younger sister coming out of a hotel’’.
She also alleged that her husband was dating a single mother on their street and that he packed out from his house the same day the other woman packed out of hers.
“My husband packed out of the house he built to an unknown destination, abandoning me and our children. He moved out with a lady he was dating on our street to rent an apartment elsewhere.’’
The mother of three, however, pleaded with the court not to grant her husband’s wish for dissolution, saying that she was still in love with him.
The husband Rasak, a 51-year-old accountant, had urged the court to dissolve his 13-year-old marriage to Oluwabunmi for alleged s*x starvation.
He said, “Whenever we have misunderstanding, my wife will deny me s*x and food; and for the past six months now, she had refused me to make love to her.”
He said that Oluwabunmi was fond of accusing him of infidelity, adding that “my wife always accused me of dating any woman she sees in my car. She once trailed me to a place, stopped my car, dragged the woman out of my car and she gave her the beating of her life.
“She also beat up one of our tenants, accusing her of having an affair with me. Because of her behaviour, I ordered her to leave my house and when she refused, I packed out from the house.”
Rasak, said that he was sick and tired of the marriage and that the love he once had for her had faded.
The President of the court, Adegboyega Omilola, adjourned the case till July 26 for judgment.
A herdsman arrested by the Oyo State Police Command for robbery, Amidu Umoru, said it was his destiny to rob despite being a herdsman.
Umoru and Umoru Sanda were accused of attacking Kehinde Rafiu along Igangan/Iganna road, via Iwere Ile in Oke-Ogun area of Oyo State, beating him with a shepherd club and machete before robbing him of his motorcycle.
While parading the suspects, Commissioner of Police in the state, Leye Oyebade, said the victim later died in a hospital because of the fatality of his injury.

“Sanda cut the motorcycle owner with his cutlass and I used the club to beat him. He was seriously injured but not dead. I normally used the club to shepherd cattle. After leaving him for dead, we took his motorcycle away to sell. We were later arrested by members of the Odua Peoples’ Congress who handed us over to the police.”
Asked for the motive behind the robbery when he was already engaged as a herdsman, Umoru said he had no clear understand of why he took to the crime and that it was his destiny to rob.
“I don’t know why I did it. I cannot even ride a motorcycle. I am a herdsman and this is my first time of being arrested or robbing people. Whatever Allah desires must come to past. I think it is my destiny to rob,” he said.
A 71-year-old woman, Almeda Errell, got married to 17-year-old teenager, Gary Hardwick, just three weeks after she met him at the funeral of her 49 year old son.
After a whirlwind three-week romance, the pensioner and the teenage boy tied the knots in a ceremony he arranged within 6 days for just about $200 in six days.
The couple consummated their relationship for the first time on their wedding night.
Gary said:
“It was wonderful, beyond my wildest dreams,”. “She really is my dream woman and the physical side of our relationship couldn’t be better.” “It was the best ever.”
Almeda who is a supermarket assistant, agreed saying:
“I’d never had a connection like it before.” “I wasn’t looking for a young man, but Gary just came along,” said Almeda, a supermarket assistant. “I just knew straight away that he was the one.”
I’d been married to my first husband Donald for 43 years, and so when he died in 2013 after seven months in hospital from complications with diabetes, I found myself on my own,’ said Almeda. I’d turn up for work in tears and my colleagues would ask me what was wrong. Deep down, I was searching for a soulmate.
Gary, whose attraction to older women started with a crush on a teacher at the age of eight, said he had also been feeling trapped in an unhappy relationship with his 77-year-old lover.
“We were always fighting,’ said Gary. “I fell into depression and was looking for a way out.”
As soon as he broke up with his 77 year girlfriend, he went to confess his love for Almeda.
“It was an instant thing for me too,” said Gary. “She had the most gorgeous, sparkling blue eyes. When I told Lisa that I liked Almeda, she said that Almeda liked me too and that she should get us together.”
“Some family members thought Gary was far too young for me, and that I must be crazy,” said Almeda. “I told him I wasn’t crazy, and that we loved each other.”
Two weeks after their first date, Gary proposed to her on the phone and she had no hesitation in accepting it.
Six days later, Gary had hurriedly arranged everything cheap.
Almeda wore a dress borrowed from his cousin as they married in the gardens outside Lisa’s flat where they’d shared their first kiss.
Since their wedding in October, Gary has tattooed their names across his chest and the couple are now living in Almeda’s five-bedroom house, in Sevierville, Tennessee, USA with her daughter DeAnna, 40, and grandchildren Aaron, 21, and Indianna, 16.
Gary has also started working at another supermarket, but is applying for a transfer to the same one as Almeda’s so they can be together all the time.
Gary said:
“Almeda is so young at heart that age never bothers us, we never really think about it. I just know that God answered my prayers that day she walked into my life.”
She added: ‘The one thing I’ve learnt is that when you truly love somebody, it really doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks.”

A Kenyan police officer went on a shooting spree, killing seven of his colleagues, including a member of hostage response team on Thursday, July 14 at Kapenguria Police Station. One of the officers includes Officer Dennis Momany from Coy Ruiru, who got married few weeks ago.
The siege began when the attacker, identified as Abdilhakim Maslah, opened fire on his fellow officers, leading to a hostage situation. Police at first suspected the attacker had ties to the al-Shabab jihadist group.
According to the police, Maslah, a station guard, got off work Wednesday night but returned to the Kapenguria station shortly after 5am on Thursday and started shooting.
A separate police statement to the media said the officer, “for yet unknown reasons, went berserk and grabbed a firearm” and started shooting. The statement said the officer wore a “turban that covered his whole face, leading to the previous suspicions” that he was a terrorist.
Earlier, Police Inspector General Joseph Boinnet had said in a statement that commandos had surrounded the police station in an attempt to bring the standoff to an end.
“His attempts to escape were thwarted by quick arrival by other officers,” Boinnet said.
Five police officers, including a senior officer, were among the dead, reports The Nation Kenya, quoting West Pokot County Commissioner Wilson Wanyanga.
KTN Kenya reported that as many as six officers had died in Kapenguria. Police commandos were deployed to rescue prisoners held at the station and end the standoff, Kenya’s police chief, Joseph Boinnet, said before the crisis ended.
All but one of the officers killed worked at the station. The station commander was among them, West Pokot County Commissioner Wilson Wanyanga said.
President Uhuru Kenyatta condoles with the families and colleagues of the victims,
“Today, I mourn with the families of the young men who died in Kapenguria defending their nation against a depraved killer, he said in a statement.
“We do not know what led the killer to his foul and evil deeds, but Kenyans can be certain that my government’s security and investigative agencies will do all within their power to discover what motivated this attack. I celebrate the lives of the young patriots who died defending the law and order we so often take for granted.
In days to come, my government will give their families every support as they come to terms with these tragic events. My family and I pray that God will grant them the grace to bear these losses.
Kenya remains strong. This is a country of laws and order, not violence and hatred. We will not allow ourselves to be shaken, or to be divided by the foul deeds of a single man.”
