The Lagos State Police Command arrested 28-year-old Okwuchukwu Ibekwe, who lived in Iyana Iba area of Lagos, for allegedly selling his five-month-old son to a child trafficker in Anambra State for N400,000.

He said he sold his son because he was having difficulties in his trade and allegedly decided with his wife to sell him.

According to PUNCH Metro the Ibekwes sold their son to one Chinelo, who stayed in Ihiala, Anambra State and is still on the run, on December 17, 2015.

It was learnt that Chinelo gave the infant’s Dad N250,000 while the mother of the baby’s mum was supposed to get N150,000.

However, when Mr. Ibekwe returned from Anambra state, he refused to give the wife her share, so she reported the matter to the police and fled the house after making the report.

Okwuchukwu was subsequently arrested and detained at the Police Gender Unit, Ikeja, while police operatives also arrested Chinelo’s husband in Anambra State. The baby and Chinelo are yet to be found.

While being paraded on Wednesday, Okwuchukwu said he collected N400,000 from Chinelo in exchange for his son with his wife’s consent.

He said:

“Chinelo was to give me N400,000 for the baby. My wife was the one who suggested that we dispose of the baby to meet our business needs.

“But Chinelo gave me N250,000 for the baby when I went to deliver him to her in Anambra State.

“When I returned, my wife and I quarrelled and she ran away for three days. I did not know that she went to report the matter to the police. She was concerned with her own share of N150,000.

“I sell vehicle spare parts in Ladipo market. “It was a lawyer who called me that my wife had reported me to the police, and that I should come and see her. When I went there, I was arrested.

“I do not know the whereabouts of my son. I did not know Chinelo would run away with my child.”

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, who paraded the suspect, said the case was undergoing intense investigation and efforts to recover the baby and arrest Chinelo.

The 26-year-old Ugandan artist who arrived Sweden a few weeks ago to be with his 68-year-old wife shared the photos on Facebook.

Borno state hunters have appealed to the Nigerian Army to allow them access into the dreaded Sambisa forest which is believed to be the camp of the terror group, Boko Haram.

The emir of hunters in the state Mai-Gana Mai-Durma while addressing the media in Maiduguri said they are very familiar with the terrain of the much dreaded forest and so should be allowed to go in and fight the terrorist.

“We are appealing to the military authorities to allow us join the fight against Boko Haram at the Sambisa forest.

We are ready to pursue the terrorists because we know the terrain very well. We will overrun Sambisa in partnership with members of the civilian JTF if given the opportunity.

This will help to complement the effort of military in the anti terrorism operation. Hunters from all the 27 Borno LGAs are all in Maiduguri with our leaders doing nothing at present because of Boko Haram.

Rather than idling away, we will want to assist the military in crushing Boko Haram terrorists.” he said

Yesterday, a Facebook user shared the story of a pregnant young woman who was stranded at the Iji Nike Cottage Hospital in Enugu because there was no medical personnel present to attend to her.

As she crowned, her husband ran into the street, calling for help. Luckily, he met kind people, one of whom was a doctor.

She set up a makeshift emergency room in the tricycle that brought in the pregnant woman and delivered her of her baby boy.

“On my way to see my mother in-law with my family this evening. My sister in-law whose family house is directly opposite the LGA health centre (Iji Nike Cottage Hospital, Near Enugu East Development Centre Nkwo Nike) flagged us down (we didn’t plan to stop by), few minutes later a young man in his late twenties ran in panting: “my wife is in Labour in that health centre and there is nobody there.”

In less than 5 minutes a mobile hospital was set setup in the “keke” that brought in the woman. To the glory of God, my wife who is a doctor, delivered the woman of a bouncing baby boy at 6:30pm 01/01/2016. My sisters in-law turned nurses instantly and the torchlight in my phone provided the lighting. Thank you Lord.”

A car lost control yesterday afternoon at Ire-akari junction, Okeletu, along Ijere Road in Ikorodu and rammed into shops along the road.

Reports have it that the driver of the vehicle, a Toyota Corolla sustained injuries and was rushed to the hospital.

Thankfully, no life was lost in the incident.
