The man met his tragic end in the early hours of today while trying to steal a pumping machine in a well at 3/5 Modupe Ajayi Close, Alagbado, Lagos State.

Adeboye, 67, the owner of the house, said a Mobile Police officer, Solomon Saint, woke him up around 12 mid night, saying he heard a loud sound of an object that fell into the well.

He added that: “When we rushed out to see what it was, we heard someone’s voice inside the well crying for help so we quickly put a call across to the DPO of Alagbado Police Station, who immediately called in the fire service, but the man died before they could rescue him.”

Yesterday, Mfreke Archibong Effiong, was paraded by the Akwa Ibom State Police Command for allegedly killing his father, Mr. Archibong Effiong in Ibesikpo-Asutan LGA of the state.

While parading the 25 years old, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Delia Nwawe, said the suspect hit his father with a big stick on the head.

In response, the suspect attributed the incident to provocation as he never set out to kill his father. Mfreke said he came back from farm on Monday to meet his father beating the mother, Vanguard reports.

He said the mother was trying to explain what happened, but his father attacked him with a broken bottle. He said he was trying to defend himself when he hit his father with the stick on his right arm.

Her story was corroborated when she led soldiers to the unexploded vest, Awami said Thursday by phone from the refugee camp, which holds 50,000 people who have fled Boko Haram’s Islamic uprising.

The girl is in custody and has given officials information about other planned bombings that has helped them increase security at the camp, Satomi Ahmed, chairman of the Borno State Emergency Management Agency, told reporters.

Awami said he had no information about how the girl came to be with Boko Haram. The extremists have kidnapped thousands of people and there are fears they may be turning their captives into weapons.

An army bomb disposal expert has told the AP that some suicide bombs are detonated remotely, so the carriers may not have control over when the bomb goes off.

Even two days later, it’s difficult to say exactly how many people died at Dikwa because there were corpses and body parts everywhere, including in the cooking pots, Awami said.

“Women, children, men and aged persons all died,” he said by telephone. “I cannot say the exact number as some cannot be counted because the bodies were all mangled.”

Yesterday, an SS1 student of the Federal Government Girls College in Malali, Kaduna, was arrested after she murdered her newborn and flung the corpse over the school fence.

Daily Trust reports that the dead child was wrapped in a white cloth, but it got entangled against the metal hooks on the fence and dangled, until it drew attention and was brought down.

The Police spokesperson, DSP Zubairu Abubakar, confirmed the incident and identified the student as Ummu-Salam Umar, an SS1 student.

He said, “At about 1.15pm, the Vice Principal of FGGC, Malali, Mrs. Obianwuzia reported at the station that ‎the corpse of a new born baby suspected to have been delivered by a student wrapped in a white cloth was thrown over the school fence.”

“The corpse of the baby was left dangling on the school fence until the police came and removed it,” he continued.

“After taking picture of the scene, it has been deposited at the mortuary.”

Ummu-Salam Umar is currently detained by the police.
