Stephanie Okereke Linus is no stranger in making amazing movies in Nollywood. Take for instance, her Dry, an advocacy movie for the girl-child, that won the Best Overall Movie at the 2016 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).
In an interview, she has said that women should not died during child birth.
She said about motherhood “That is the most beautiful experience ever. Sometimes, you have this out-of-body experience that when you look at the child, you tell yourself, ‘Is this my child? Did he actually come out of me?’
“You have moments like that and it just shows you that our life is spiritual and God is just amazing.
There are certain things you just don’t understand and when you have a child and you see his eyes, it’s like you’re living your life all over again. It’s a very wonderful feeling, I’m telling you.
It’s something you can’t even describe. It’s something that you need to experience. When you look at the innocence of the child and the need for you to protect your baby and make sure that everything is done right for him or her.
It’s just an amazing feeling and I’m really grateful to God that he gave me the ability, that He made me experience it.”
The National Universities Commission has declared that any student who wants to study medicine will henceforth spend a minimum of 10 years in the university.
The Executive Secretary of the Commission, Prof. Julius Okojie made the declaration in a lecture delivered at the maiden matriculation and inauguration of the University of Medical Science, Ondo, Ondo State.
In a lecture titled ‘Development of Medical Education : Prospects and Challenges‘, Okojie, who was represented by the Deputy Executive Secretary of the commission, Prof. Chiedu Mafiana, said the development was imperative in order to enable the students mature psychologically for the profession.
He said the 2015 document for the training of medical students made provision for students to spend the first four years in studying basic sciences in university after which they would proceed to the medical school to spend another seven years.
Stressing the need for adequate funding of medical training and practice, the NUC Executive Secretary admonished the management of the institution to ensure that the money earmarked for the development of the institution was used for the purpose it was meant.
The Visitor of the school and Ondo a State governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, in his speech said the university was expected to leverage on the benefits of the medical complex around the institution to advance efforts in medical research and training.
He expressed optimism that the institution would be a leading internationally-recognised platform for raising crops of professionally-competent individuals in the various disciplines of the health care industry.
“It is our hope and belief that it will provide sound scientific, technological and professional training to address identified health needs and problems, solve them within the context of community and national needs and sustainable development,” Mimiko said.
In his address, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Friday Okonofua, said the that the university would achieve the objectives for which it was established, appealing to all well-meaning Nigerians to render assistance to the varsity by contributing to the ‘Friends of UNIMED Funds’ initiatives which was targeted at raising N1billion for the school .
He lauded the initiative of the Ondo State government for the establishment of the university describing it as the most creative and innovative idea that has taken place in the development of tertiary education in the country.

News trending on Social media is that of a female student from OAU, who is said to have stolen numerous items from her hostel, Moremi Hall.
It’s reported that the female student ought to have been publicly embarrassed by what the students in the compound call “Maximum Shishsi”, but it’s being presumed that it’s cause it’s a girl that involved, that’s why she escaped the embarrassment.
Maximum shishi in the school is when a thief is caught, beaten and paraded round the hostels. The males are stripped to their boxers while the females are paraded with their loot.

Bisi Kazeem, Head, Media Relations and Strategy, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), has insisted that late James Ocholi’s driver, Taiwo James Elegbede had no driver’s license record with the commission.
Kazeem stated this Abuja on Sunday, March 13 in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria. According to him, the news making round in the social media that Elegbede, driver of the ill-fated vehicle that claimed the lives of Ocholi and his family members has a driver’s license is not true.
“Elegbede is not captured in our driver’s licensing data, so the license he claimed to have expired must be a fake one.
Our license procedure includes physical presence and biometric capturing of applicants which is permanently stored in our data bank, for the purpose of verification.
We always tell members of the public to visit our licensing centres spread across the country and desist from patronizing touts while applying for their driver’s license.
Elegbede can not be called a competent driver if he does not have a genuine driver’s license, which he can only acquire showing mastery of basic driving principles.
Reacting to the claim that the vehicle(Lexus 570 SUV) the driver was driving was one given to Ocholi from the office of the Head of Service and that he wasn’t allowed to examine the car, Kazeem said:
“A good driver must perform a routine check on his vehicles before driving out, it is not an excuse to say because the vehicle was provided by another office and he should ignored a check on it.
Infact, the maintenance department could not claim in-culpability as a result of receiving the vehicle from another agency or department, the more reason, why proper check should be carried out as the vehicle is changing hands.”
Kazeem said the commission while wishing Elegbede a speedy recovery, urged members of the public to only engage the service of a genuinely licensed driver to avert road carnages.
James Ocholi, his wife and a son died in an accident along Kaduna-Abuja Highway on Sunday,March 6, while the driver and the Orderly sustained serious injuries.
It should be reacalled that Elegbede’s colleagues at the transport department of the Ministry of Labour and Employment had earlier debunked the claim that he had no license saying that Elegbede is a licensed driver who had served the ministry for over 25 years.
They said Elegbede’s driver’s license expired on January 15th 2016 and he had applied for another one.

We only met her not quite long and I will say like a month and I will say she is going to be a good mother and a good wife to the whole Yoruba race.
Immediately you saw her, what came to your mind?
I saw her as a pleasant woman and a very accommodating one at that. A good wife that will take care of the custom and tradition of Yoruba of Ife. A good woman that will take care of her husband.
It obvious that Kabiyesi would have met her a long time but he just decide to introduced her to the family now?
No, Kabiyesi didnt meet her a long time, it was the oracle who revealed her to Kabiyesi. They never met before. The irumole are still alive and they are doing wonders. You know a lot of things has been happening since they introduced the new Oloori to the world. Lots of people were saying evil things about her. Majority of what they said are not correct. They were just running her down. But to the glory of God we still marry her. Is that not wonderful and marvelous.
Many believed that whoever wants to marry Kabiyesi will also have to marry his 3 sisters, is that true?
It is easy because we are very friendly and many people won’t know this until they move closer to us. We are friendly, loving and very accommodating.

The AGN President should face the law but mercy should be considered because of her children. On Friday, March 11, 2016 the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) President Ibinabo Fiberesima had her appeal dismissed by a Lagos High Court.
What this means is that Ibinabo Fiberesima will have to serve the 5-year sentence handed down by Justice Deborah Oluwayemi of a Lagos High Court for reckless driving, resulting in the death Alhaji Giwa Suraj who was a doctor at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.
Ibinabo’s first son Sean Liam Coughlan has written an open letter appealing for his mum not to be imprisoned.
“My mother is the most humble woman I know, I was not aware she was a celebrity until I was about 14 and that’s only because my uncle told me, she does not see herself or act as if she is above any other person. She is a proud Nigerian who loves her country and its people.
“Secondly, she has been carrying heartbreak around with her for the past 11 years after the accident. She understands the pain for the deceased family and is very hurt about what happened herself. She has tried her utter most to console with the Family, so don’t ever think she does not care” wrote Sean.
His letter surely tugs at the heartstrings but the law is still the law no matter what. If Ibinabo did the crime, then she must do the time. The law is no respecter of persons. All over the world celebrities go to jail every time even the female ones.
Paris Hilton, Martha Stewart and Lil’ Kim are examples of female celebrities who have been to prison and the world did not end. As much as we would like to sympathize with Ibinabo a court of law has found her guilty and she must do the time.
Ibinabo Fiberesima should be getting ready to do five years if she decides not to appeal the verdict.
Unfortunately, this incident happened in 2006. Thanks to our slow legal system this case has dragged on for a decade. Justice should have been served years ago. By now all parties would have been moved on with their lives. Rather we are still here talking about it.
Now the court has given her five years out of the maximum seven years for manslaughter. That’s a fair sentence but I think the court should temper justice with mercy.
Ibinabo Fiberesima is a mother of five. Separating her from her children for five years would be a terrible ordeal for her. Her kids will also feel the brunt of having their mum being locked up for five years.
The emotional and psychological turmoil will be too much for them. In those five years Ibinabo Fiberesima will be wrecked if she is not with her children. The bond between a mother and her children is very strong and all cost it should not be broken.
My humble suggestion is that Ibinabo Fiberesima should be sentenced to five years in prison but she should be allowed to come out after two-and-a-half years depending on her good behaviour. I think this would help keep her family structure as intact as possible.
For those clamouring that she shouldn’t do the time, I think that is wrong. No one is above the law. I however feel 5 years will have an adverse effect on her family. Based on her behaviour she should be given an early release. This is the best option for her and her kids.

President of Malawi, Peter Mutharika has on Saturday, fired back at controversial Nigerian Pastor, T.B Joshua of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), over an alleged prophecy that he would die before April 1, Malawi state television reported yesterday.
Speaking at a rally in the capital Lilongwe,he said
“I’m told there is a man in Nigeria called Joshua and he is saying that Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe and Peter Mutharika will die before April 1,” “Let me tell you, Joshua… you will fail. What you did in 2012 (Joshua reportedly predicted the death of a president of an unnamed southern African country. Mutharika’s brother, Bingu, who was president at the time, died within the predicted time frame) will not happen again this year,”
Mutharika did not say when or where Joshua made the latest prophesy. But Mutharika asked why TB Joshua didn’t foresee the collapse of a guesthouse in Lagos in September 2014, which left 116 people dead.
“Why did he not foretell this tragedy? “This all shows that he is a liar. He just wants to raise money,”
Robbers have chopped off the wrists of a septuagenarian, Pa Jacob Ikilo, a security guard at a filling station at Eyaen village, on the Benin-Auchi Road, The Nation reports.
Pa Jacob is receiving treatment at the Male Orthopaedic Ward of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), where doctors are battling to save his right wrist.
The severed right wrist, being kept alive by a tiny blood vessel, requires N380,000 to be fixed back. The incident was said to have occurred on Monday, February 29, at 3 am, when Pa Jacob was on night duty.
Pa Jacob said the robbers used machete to chop off his wrist when he went to check an unusual noise at the plant house. He said he heard people running towards him. As he attempted to run, the robbers attacked him.
“When I was coming from the generator house, they surrounded me. They just cut off this my hand (left hand). As I shout, they said shut up and cut the other hand. I fell down and started asking them to leave me, that I was dying.”
The company manager was said to have invited the Egba Divisional Police Station after a driver discovered Pa Jacob.
Pa Jacob said he needs money to pay the bills as he had been working for the last six months without his N15, 000 monthly pay.He said his employer did not pay regularly even when he did 12 hours work daily.
Pa Jacob added that N3, 000 was deducted and paid to the company that helped him to get the job which made his take home pay N12,000.

It’s interesting they way people have responded to the recent ongoings with Ibinabo Fiberesima. Ib Fiberesima is my cousin, first cousins actually.
When I first read in the news about a month ago that Lagos state was revisiting the case of her involvement in the accident I was a bit surprised, I got in touch with her and she told me to keep her in my prayers. Same also went for another court case about a girl who won a beauty pageant she organized.
Now what is of interest to me is the negative comments she has received concerning the new judgement. My prayer for us all is that we do not end up in situations that we have very little control over, and also that we do not end up on the wrong side of the law.
The aim of this post is to hopefully enlighten those who would like to listen to know the Ibinabo that I know. Ever since I can remember, Ib has been a go-getter.
Nothing stands in her way, nothing is impossible, and she speaks her mind. She is very hard working. I have had the opportunity to spend many a night at her place in Lagos and Port Harcourt. Ibinabo comes home most times after 10 p.m, stays up till about 1a.m, still working, and is up by 6 a.m to go out to work again.
The haters might ask “what sort of work does she do”? Wells she owns and manages AMC productions, has for the past few years been the president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, an organisation she has helped transform, and thirdly she is always caring to people’s needs.
Ibinabo is one of the most generous people I know. She goes out of her way to help people to the point where people keep on taking advantage of her but that has not deterred her from helping yet still.
The ibinabo most people know is not just the pictures she posts on her social media platform, she is also like you and I.
She cries, she laughs, she gets sad, she falls sick, she gets angry, she has a bad,….. basically the same things we all go through only that like most other people none of it was handed to her on a platter of gold. She worked for it.

An official of the Lagos State University, Samuel Ambe, has been apprehended by the police for allegedly killing his lover, Mata Jidonu.
Thirty-two-year-old Mata was married to a lawyer, Sunday Jidonu, for whom she had three children.
It was learnt that the suspect worked at the Department of Works and Physical Planning of the university.
According to PUNCH Metro, Mata, who lived in the Agric area of Ikogazebba, Badagry, had left home around 3pm on February 15, saying she was going to buy foodstuffs in the market, but reportedly headed for the lover’s house, a few kilometres away.
Her husband, Sunday, who had returned from the court earlier that day as a result of illness, became apprehensive when she did not return on time.
He said:
“I came back from the court that day around 2pm because I was ill. On getting home, I found out that my wife was dressed up, ready to go out. I told her to prepare coffee for me because that it is what I normally take in the afternoon. She said I had been taking too much coffee and advised me to eat eba that was already prepared.
“She put the stew on fire while she went to pick our last child, Laura, from the school. I told her to help me buy drugs along the road. The same motorcyclist that took her to and from the school waited for her outside and took her again supposedly to the market to buy beans.
“I slept after taking the drugs. Laura woke me up around 5pm and I asked his brother where their mother was. I called her number but it did not go through. I called her mother, our church and the centre, where she was doing a post-literacy study; they all said she was not with them.”
Sunday said he became more worried when it was 9pm and Mata did not come home. He added that he could not sleep conveniently till the following day when he reported at the Badagry Police Division.
“I was at the station, when the head of the vigilante group in our community called me on the telephone that my wife had been found dead in a bush path. When I got to the scene, a crowd had gathered and policemen from Ado-Odo Ota, Ogun State, had arrived to pick her corpse. She was strangled and stabbed in the leg. Her private parts’ hairs had been shaved off,” he added
The lawyer told the publication that the nature of Mata’s death prompted him to talk to people living around the area, saying that he was told she used to go to the suspect’s home regularly and was there on February 15.
He said he gave the information to the police, leading to Ambe’s arrest.
He said:
“I was told that my wife had been sighted with Ambe on several occasions at his second house and that she entered the building on the day the incident happened. He is a non-teaching staff member at LASU. His family members do not live with him in that house. I reported to the police and eight days later, he was arrested.
“As we were going to the station in a police van, he called somebody on the telephone, telling the person in Egun language that the fat woman had been traced to his house. He did not know that I understand the language.”
It was learnt that Ambe’s phones were consequently seized and upon dialing the deceased’s number on one of the phones, it showed ‘D@M’ as the identity of the caller.
“The call logs we got from the MTN office revealed that he had been calling my wife every day since February 1. It was discovered that he had called her twice on February 15, the day she did not come back home,” he added.
It was learnt that the police recovered some charms from the suspect’s house, while bloodstains were found on the wall of the building
Sunday said:
“He (Ambe) begged me to forgive him. He said he was not the one who killed my wife and that he was only dating her.
“But there are enough indications for me to believe that he is behind the death of my wife. Since then, some elders in the community have been threatening me to let go of the matter. I have also been noticing strange movements around my house.”
Confirming the incident via a text message, the Ogun State Police spokesperson, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, said the command had enough evidence to prosecute the suspect, adding that he would be charged to court.
He said:
“The suspect is with us. We have credible evidence to prosecute the suspect and he will soon appear in court.”

The Presidency has disclosed categorically that President Muhammadu Buhari acts fully in the capacity of his office whether he is in Nigeria or abroad on official assignments.
In reaction to a report by an online news medium that vice president, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, had to cancel his trip to India for the India-Africa conference because he did not want to relinquish power to Nigeria’s number three citizen, Senator Bukola Saraki, the Presidency noted that the President is still acting in his full capacity despite embarking on a state visit to Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.
In a statement issued by Laolu Akande, spokesperson for Prof Osinbajo, he said:
“Nigerians know wherever Mr. President is, at home or abroad he acts fully in his office except if on break, indisposed or incapacitated. So the question of his traveling creating a vacuum does not even exist at all.“It is simply untrue that an advance party from the Vice President’s office departed for India. No such thing happened because there was no such final decision to travel.
The statement then cleared the air on Nigeria’s participation at the summit.
“There are some insinuations online about Nigeria’s participation in the India-Africa conference holding from March 14-16 in New Delhi.”
“For the avoidance of any doubt, Nigeria’s delegation to the the meeting is led by Industry and Trade Minister, Dr. Okey Enelamah,” the statement read.

Their Family Drama has been going on for months now, But Paul Okoye today, Monday, March 14th shared a photo of their late mother Josephine Okoye.
Although it is not her death anniversary yet, “I wish you were around,” he captioned the picture, adding a crying emoji.

“Now I understand what these life is without having a mother,” the singer and songwriter continued. “You’ve played your part. Thank you very much, mum. Miss you.”
Josephine Okoye died in an Indian hospital on July 11, 2012, after an illness, and their father passed away in November 2014.
