FG Removes Fuel Subsidy, cut Petrol Price to N85 per litre

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced that, effective from January 1, 2016 Nigerians will buy a litre of petrol for a reduced amount of 85 naira.

Although Nigerian have faced with the challenges of buying fuel higher than its present official selling price of 87 naira with over two months of unbearable fuel scarcity across the nation.

The Minister of State for Petroleum, Emmanuel Kachikwu, made the announcement of the reduction in pump price of the petrol at the Port Harcourt Refinery Company (PHRC), where he spent Christmas inspecting the revamped plant.

Asked when the Federal Government would release the new price template of the Petroleum Product Pricing Regulation Agency (PPPRA), the Minister said he approved the new price for the agency on Thursday.

“Like I said, we have done a modulation calculation and it is showing us below N87”, Mr. Kachikwu said. “I imagine that if PPPRA publishes it today, it will become effective immediately. But the 1st of January that is when we are looking at”.

Dr. Kachikwu explained that the new price template will convince Nigerians that the pricing modulation that the Muhammadu Buhari-led government promised to embark on a few days ago was not a trick.

He noted that following analyses and research, government realized the country could fluctuate fuel price in accordance with the crude oil market fundamentals.

Justifying government’s reasons for scrapping the Petroleum Support Fund otherwise known as oil subsidy, the Minister pointed out that government could no longer afford to subsidize the petrol following the fraud that has marred its operation.

He added that it had become clear that government earnings were dipping on daily basis.

LOL. The Beef and Competition Between Nigerians and Ghanaians is Hilarious. We all know right now that the biggest bone of contention is Jollof rice.

Apparently, it has been historically proven that this delicacy neither originated in Ghana nor Nigeria, but not everyone agrees with or are even aware of it.

Two female students of Nigerian and Ghanian origin studying at the College of South West London, UK were suspended indefinitely for fighting over this matter.

Lateefah Oyedepo was cooking her jollof rice the Nigerian way when Tracy Osei Assibey told her that she was going about it all wrong by using fat grain rice, instead of long grain rice.

Lateefah then retorted that the Nigerian way was the right way and that the classic recipe was of Nigerian origin. She also said that Ghanaian jollof tastes disgusting! It quickly escalated from there.

This wasn’t just a simple fight, fists were involved. The fight started in the kitchen of their fifth floor apartment and moved to the streets.

It went on for about two-and-half hours, until further catastrophe was prevented by one of the college’s lecturers who is Sierra Leonean.

The ladies basically went at each other over something they know nothing about. This situation perfectly shows that ignorance isn’t bliss!

Ghanaian President Bans First Class Travels For Public Officials.

In a bid to cut wasteful spending, Ghanaian President, John Mahama has banned public officials from first class air travel.

The government said on Tuesday that the ban has come into effect as the country implements an IMF aid deal to revive state finances.

The presidency issued the directive this week asking all ministers and other top officials to avoid “unwarranted” foreign trips on the public purse, Communications Minister Edward Omane Boamah told media.

Finance Minister Seth Terkper told Reuters on Tuesday the cabinet is also discussing a financial accountability bill which would impose penalties such as dismissal or jail time for public officials who are found to violate it.

“It is expected to be clear enough to enable the general public to see malfeasance if there is any and hold the agency involved accountable,” he added.

Aisha Musa has been living in the crowded Minawao refugee camp for seven months, she’s been surviving by selling corn meal at the local market.

Aisha was kidnapped by Boko Haram militants who killed her family, and forced her at gunpoint to become a jihadi bride. Speaking to CBS news, she says:

“They show you a gun, and then whatever they say you have to follow their command,” Musa said.

She said her captor would lock her in during the day and at night, he would rape her.

“He would go on operations and kill people, and then come home and force me to be with him.”

Musa was rescued by the Cameroon military, but the worst of her ordeal was finding out she was pregnant by her rapist.

“I am not enjoying that I have a baby from a Boko Haram man,” she said. But she is resigned and there are moments of tenderness between her and her young child.

Musa never saw the Chibok girls but often heard the fighters speak of them. Like many of the other girls, they too were forced to marry the militants.

In a double injustice, many are now stigmatized by their community. Girls like Musa are regarded as spoiled goods — her baby a very public reminder of a cruel and unfair shame.

Pirates of the Caribbean crooner, Johnny Depp, has been named the most overpaid movie star in Hollywood by Forbes magazine after posting a string of box office flops.

According to Forbes, Depp, who is one of the highest-paid actors on the planet with estimated annual earnings of $30m, returned just $1.20 for every $1.

His poor position is due to the financial failure of movies such as Mortdecai, Transcendence and The Lone Ranger, all of which bombed at the box office.

The Lone Ranger took the biggest hit with studio Disney estimated to have lost upwards of $150m on the western, while comedy Mortdecai pulled in just $47.4m at the global box office against a production budget of $60m alone.

Sci-fi thriller Transcendence only just recouped its $100m production costs. All 10 actors on the “most overpaid” list are male.

Second on the “most overpaid” list was Denzel Washington, who returned just $6.50 for each $1 he was paid – still more than five times what Depp recouped.
