25 year old Doyin Sarak Fagbenro who spent most of her life in the United Kingdom and also completed her First and Second Degree there was killed in a fatal accident along Lekki-Epe Expressway.
The beautiful 25 year old relocated to Nigeria from the UK. Her cousin, Ken Davidson, took to his Facebook page to pay her a heartfelt tribute. It’s such a sad read. Read after the cut. May her soul rest in peace, Amen.
DSF: Tribute To A Shining Starlet. Oh death! Where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? Another Casualty of a broken and failed State. Your story is particularly Gut Wrenching as it is equally heartbreaking.
You spent near enough all but two of your 25 years on earth in the Country of your Birth, the United Kingdom where your Parents and entire family reside. You were born, bred and educated in the United Kingdom. But two years ago, immediately after you graduated, you elected to visit Nigeria where your Grandparents reside – both of whom are in their Mid Eighties.
You signed up for the National Youth Service having freshly graduated with a sterling First Degree in Law and a Post Grad immediately afterwards. You were headhunted by an Energy Firm before you completed your NYSC and a presto you gallantly announced to your Nervous Parents – Dad a Diplomat with the United Nations based in Italy and Mum a Pharmacist based in the United Kingdom, your country of Birth – that you were going to permanently relocate and make Nigeria your permanent abode. Your Grandparents were ecstatic, you being their most favourite Grand Daughter.
You were a straight A student right from when you passed your GCSEs through to when you excelled in your A’levels…so much so that Prestigious Queen Mary’s London University snapped you to study Law. You missed a First by whisker’s. Nevertheless you made your mark all the way through. Then it all came crashing down.
What was supposed to be a routine journey to Church on a relatively sombre, otherwise uneventful Sunday morning on the Lekki/Ajah Expressway around the Lekki Phase 1 approach turned into a living and eternal nightmare for those of us left struggling to pick up the pieces. Our lives changed forever, never to be the same again.
A victim of the reckless and probably high on drinks/drugs ‘Danfo’ Driver. The most galling of the entire episode was the fact that the driver of that Danfo survived unscathed, RAN away from the scene leaving a trail of Death and Destruction in his wake. Four people died at the scene. Your New Toyota Corolla was a crumpled wreck. But the Fighter that you were, despite massive injuries, you fought and fought and fought.
Your Dad, via his status at the United Nations, got you into Lagoon Hospital where you were for a few days. When it became clear that the extent of your injuries was too severe for the local facilities here in Nigeria, An Air Ambulance was scrambled from the United Kingdom to get you much needed Specialist Care in the United Kingdom. Your tireless mum who flew in from the United Kingdom, barely 48 hours after the accident, accompanied you in the Air Ambulance. Still we Prayed and Prayed and Hoped for the Best.
Sadly We lost you a day after you arrived in the United Kingdom. The Surgeons tried desperately. You fought desperately to hang on. But in the end, it was not to be. The pain is palpably raw as it is numbling. We asked again and again, Why you? Why You? If only you had stayed on in the country of your Birth, If only…so many questions but very few answers. Your Parents, Your Grandparents, Oh! Your Grandma, with whom you celebrated her 80th Birthday over here in Nigeria a few years ago has refused to eat since she was informed of your passing nearly a week ago…All she repeatedly does is wail, wail to space “God Take Me instead, Give My Granddaughter back to Nigeria. Nigeria Needs Her, Her Parents Need her. God Take me. God Take Me.”.
These are indeed extremely perilous times. And so it was that having just spent barely a few weeks in Nigeria after a prolonged Winter holiday and Christmas in the United Kingdom with family and friends, I now find myself in the rather unenviable position of scrambling for the next flight out back to the United Kingdom just so that I can attend your Funeral this weekend. Someone retorted to me “Oh, you know, ‘our tradition’ forbids older relatives attending and being present at funerals where the deceased is much younger than us…” I snapped back, which tradition? And what has tradition ever done for us? What did Tradition ever give to HER?
I am here like a Zombie, mechanically and circuitously packing a few items for my flight out in the morning. The Family has decided that yours would be a Celebratory Sending Forth, so RED rather than the traditional Grey, Black would be the colour to be worn on the Day. DSF as you were very fondly called, you touched so many lives in the quarter century, (twenty five years only!) you ran your race on earth.
You were considerate to the end so much so that you waited until you got back home – nearer your parents and many siblings – before you finally bade the World Farewell. A celebrity Psychiatrist, Maymunah Kadiri, has disclosed that eccentric media personality, Denrele Edun is neither gay nor suffering from a mental condition.
The celeb shrink made the revelation after her personal encounter with Denrele on the set of upcoming campaign movie, ‘Peppersoup’ where Denrele fell on his face.
Taking to her Facebook, Maymunah penned a long piece titled ‘The Denrele Edun you must meet and know,’ while also recounting her experience with Denrele and why he was their choice as lead act for the campaign.

As a Physician in private practice, it was pertinent and very necessary I had to acquire business management skills.
With this in mind, I became a google rat and this got me to Enterprise Development Center of Pan Atlantic University.
Almost throughout my school days, a particular young man named Denrele Edun became my unofficial client/patient. Over 90% of the students including some facilitators believed he was a #sick, #crazy, #psycho #mad man. He was constantly used as a case study to explain the business in the entertainment industry.
Thinking this was the end, I proceeded to China European International Business School and it was the same story. At this juncture, I stopped explaining to people to stop the labelling and stigma because all fell on deaf ears.
Fast forward, our organization decided to campaign and increase the awareness on mental health by creating documentaries to depict this Societal menace.
Our first script came through and was named Peppersoup. The producer and I decided to look for the right person who will really showcase this character and ….Denrele Edun came to mind. I’m sure you are also thinking what I’m thinking….Denrele is already a mad man na…so, why him.
We prayed that he will accept the role and make himself available for the shooting. Lo and behold, Grace Edwin Oboba, our beautiful producer sent him the script and then…..the BIG NEWS!!!
Denrele did not only accept the script, but fell in love with it…for the following reasons below….
Denrele doesn’t smoke cigarette or other psychoactive substances.
He also doesn’t drink alcohol.
But he loves to drink #peppersoup
With these 3 factors, a goal we set to achieve in the first quarter of the year came through within the first 2 weeks of the year…but of course with some financial stress.
With all the excitement, shooting started immediately…..with him were some Nollywood stars such as Beverly Osu, Lisa Henry Omorodion, Lilian Afegbai, Layole Oyatogun, Tayo Phillips among other lovely actors.
Gbam….the unexpected happened… Denrele got injured when trying to act his role to the satisfaction of our viewers.
He fell when he wasn’t on any stage or wearing his controversial shoes. It was just an innocent fall that could happen to anyone on set. Thank God the shooting was within a hospital setting, so he was given the necessary medical attention. The amazing part was that he continued the shoot ever when everyone wanted the production to end for the day….what a brave young man and we appreciated him greatly.
So, contrarily to people’s view on the injury Denrele had on set from some stupid act, please know that he was diligent and very professional on set.
Do you want to know what a Shrink/Psychiatrist thinks about Denrele at this point…..wait no longer, here are the answers…
Denrele is a handsome young man who is very intelligent and passionate about his career. All you see is his prolific way of standing out of the crowd because he is destined to be unique. Socially, he neither drinks alcohol nor smoke any psychoactive substances. …….and also he is NOT Gay. So keep calm and stop drinking phensic for his headache.
Remember, what Martin Luther King Jr said in his great speech of 1963. He said and I quote “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the colour of their skin but by the content of their character”. Don’t be too quick to judge him or any other person. Stop the cyber bullying, labelling and stigmatization.
Denrele has officially being seen by a Shrink/Psychiatrist and given a good mental state of health.
Do come for your assessment let’s find out who is really psycho, wacko, crazy, mad etc….if we must use these stigmatizing words!!!
For now worry about the fact that he loves peppersoup and find out WHY!!!
Time they say Flies, But it’s up to you to be the navigator.

The Zamfara state Governor Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari, was accused by two publications – City People and The Polity of dating Zahra, the 21 year-old daughter of President Muhammadu Buhari.
They also claimed the Governor, who is Chairman of Nigeria Governors’ Forum, gifted her a whopping $200 million.
Prompt News Online reports that the Governor, via his lawyer, Mahmud Magaji, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, has vehemently denied the reports, and sent letters to both publications this week, threatening to sue them if they do not clear Yari’s name.
“The above publication, no doubt, is false and defamatory, and it is intended to bring the reputation of our client to ridicule and cause odium or malignity to our client.
“Since the above publication, our client has received countless phone calls and text messages from family, friends, colleagues and associates, who incessantly call to enquire about the said publication.
“Consequent upon the above, it is our client’s instruction that we demand from you published retraction of the said defamatory piece in three national newspapers inclusive of your own – City People, The Polity.”
Governor Yari also threatened to sue the publishers of City People and The Polity – N10 billion and N100 billion respectively if they do not retract the publications and print apologies within seven days.

Ghanaian actress, Jackie Appiah, in a recent interview with Highlifetoday in United States of America, has disclosed that she still understands her language Twi but has the challenge of speaking it fluently.
She said the reason why she can’t speak it fluently is because she has a Canadian background and also most of her friends speak more of the English language, which is why she can’t flow with the Twi language.
Jackie boasted that despite not fluent with the language, she is good at saying some proverbs with them and might soon be producing a movie in the language.
“I can speak Twi, I understand but I’m not able to flow as others do, maybe due to my upbringing. I have a Canadian background so that could be one of the reasons.
“Another is that I mingle with people who speak English and that also is not helping me but don’t worry I know my roots. For all you know, I might produce a twi movie one of these days,” she said.

If information reaching is anything to go by, then controversial Nollywood star, Emeka Ike, is in for another round of headaches.
Recall that followers of showbiz industry in Nigeria started to get a feel of Emeka’s controversial lifestyle when he battled Segun Arinze over the presidency of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN, throughout his tenure.

In an internal memo dated January 15, and obtained by Nigeriafilms.com, Onibiyo questioned why Emeka Ike is yet to convey an executive meeting and a joint council meeting since coming to office in March, 2015.

A baby girl, dressed and abandoned by her mother in a biscuit carton near Eco Bank, along Ikot Ekpene Road, Uyo, died after hours of battling for survival.
The baby, who was said to have been abandoned by her mother at about 11:30pm on Friday, died around 11:58am on Saturday after many hours of crying for help.
A resident of the area, Mr. Okon Isaac, told a Punch correspondent that the baby became pale after a long period of crying for her mum’s comfort before passing out.
Isaac said he wanted to check if Total Filling Station along Ikot Ekpene Road, Uyo had begun to sell fuel when he heard a baby cry near the refuse bin, dressed neatly and dumped in the biscuit carton.
According to him, he was perplexed and had to suspend buying fuel and kept watch over the baby since 5:47am thinking that the mother might change her mind and come back for the baby.
He stated that the baby’s cry from the carton drew the attention of a large number of people.
Isaac added that people were scared to touch the baby to avoid being accused by the police of trying to steal or kidnap the baby.
“I have been here since 5:47am. I wanted to buy fuel from Total, which only sells the product when available between the hours of 4 and 6:20am. After this time, they stop selling pretending not to have the product.
“As I was passing, I heard the cry of the baby. I began to wonder where the baby was crying from. But when I got near the refuse bin, just off the road, I saw a baby girl neatly dressed and dumped in a biscuit carton.
“I could not go to Total in search of fuel again. I stayed behind to observe if the mother of the baby might change her mind and come back for the baby. And before long, people started to troop in as they heard the cry of the baby.
“But as we live in a period of child theft and selling of children for money, people were scared to touch the baby.
They all stood helpless, should anyone risk lifting the baby, and the police happen to be around, the individual can be accused of child theft, or whatever,” he said.
The Punch correspondent called the police emergency number to inform them of the abandoned baby, but the police said they were aware of the situation and had contacted the Ministry of Environment for necessary action.
It was observed that till the baby died, neither the police nor officials of the Ministry of Environment were present at the scene.
Speaking in a recent interview with the Punch, Nollywood actress and singer Dayo Amusa said she is comfortable about her weight and has no intention of losing it.
She also spoke on love, marriage and her potential husband.
On her weight, she said;
People who embarked on a weight loss journey have a reason to do so. Whatever looks I spot at a particular time has nothing to do with anyone as long as I am comfortable with myself. I might decide to lose weight tomorrow but for now, I love the way I am.
Love and marriage
Marriage is a good thing and is instituted by God. Married couples must always remember that marriage is a good institution.
Personally, I will never announce any details about my love life or marriage plans. It is a private affair.

There is the popular advice to ladies that they should have good ambitions in life so has not to rely solely on a man for anything they want and this has made many ladies go in search of something positive to make for a living.
Flavour’s babymama, Anner Ebiere, believe that the advice is a good one but when taken way too high by the lady, then it becomes an issue.
She explains that when a lady becomes too rich than a guy then there is bound to be problem because he will feel threatened with the woman’s wealth.
In her words, “We say to girls “you can have ambition, but not too much. You should aim to be successful,” but not too successful otherwise you’ll threaten the man.” For real? This is 2016 people!”

A 43-year-old man, Opeyemi Adesina, who allegedly paraded himself as a consultant gynaecologist with the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba, says he paid N100,000 to buy the seven forged certificates he used.
Adesina, who hails from Ekiti State, was arrested on Tuesday by the Alakara Police Division on Alowolodu Street in the Alapere, Ketu area of Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro gathered that Adesina was arrested after his landlord, identified only as Akorede, wrote a “save-my-soul” petition to the management of LUTH some weeks ago alleging that Adesina brought home female patients to treat in his house and did abortions for them, among other unwholesome practices which could implicate him (the landlord).
Akorede had further explained in the letter that when he confronted Adesina, the doctor allegedly claimed to be a consultant gynaecologist with LUTH, adding that he (Adesina) brought the referral cases from the hospital to his house so that he could have time to attend to them.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the LUTH authorities, who could not find such name in the record of their consultants, forwarded the letter to the police, and Adesina was thereafter arrested.
It was gathered that the police also recovered the forged certificates.
Our correspondent observed that the certificates included a fake MBBS certificate of the University of Ibadan, and a fake membership certificate of the Nigerian Medical Association.
Speaking with PUNCH Metro, Adesina said he paid N100,000 to one Kolawole in Ibadan, Oyo State, to get the certificates, adding that he had used them for only three years.
He said, “I bought the certificates from Kolawole in Ibadan. That was three years ago. I bought them from him for N100,000. He printed the seven certificates.
“I do not know where he stays. We did not meet in any specific location. We usually met at fast food joints or any agreed place. For instance, it was at Agodi Gate area that I gave him the money and got the certificates. I decided to use another name on the certificates.
“I forged them because I dropped out of the university. I was actually studying Medicine. However, I dropped out in the 500 level due to financial reasons.
“I married my wife about five years ago. She thought I was a certified doctor. She actually came to me for treatment in the Ketu area and that was how we met. We have a child.”
Adesina, who denied his landlord’s allegation, said he only operated a laboratory where he attended to his patients.
He said, “Three years ago, I decided to get the certificates just to cover up for the failure to finish my university education.
“It is not true that I brought women to treat at home. The truth of the matter is that I have a laboratory and the women came there. I usually did tests for them and by the time the test results were out, I would ask them to visit a hospital for treatment.”
The suspect’s wife, Olawumi, pleaded that her husband should be released as he had realised his mistake, and would never venture into such again.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, said the suspect would be charged to court as soon as investigation was over.
A three-year-old girl, Success Onyeisi was kidnapped from her home on December 22, 2015 and hasn’t been seen since then.
The toddler was allegedly kidnapped by a neighbour and supposed family friend, Emmanuel Okpara, who during the search of missing 3 year old, helped the toddler’s father, Godwin Onyeisi, look for the girl, until he was accused by people who saw him with the child about the time she reportedly went missing.
Her father, a commercial motorcyclist said he has spent all his savings, about N60,000, on police investigations and other logistics to no avail.
Based on the accusation, Okpara has been arrested and transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Ikeja, where he allegedly confessed that he sold the toddler for N20,000 but didn’t say who the buyer was or where he could be located.
The little girl’s father, Godwin Onyeisi said:
“The worst part is that he (Okpara) followed me to all the places I went to in search of my daughter, with the same clothe he wore when he kidnapped her.
“He followed me on my motorcycle to all the palaces of the Baales, all the streets and all the police stations we visited, until people who saw him with her about the time she went missing, told us and the police that he was the kidnapper,” Onyeisi said.
He continued:
“My older children went to fetch water at the well in a nearby compound. They went with other children in our yard. So, because we were planning to travel, my wife left Success who was watching cartoon in the room and rushed to the market.
“She was the one who called me that they have been looking for Success and have not seen her. Initially I didn’t really take her seriously because I did not think anyone will want to harm me or my family.
“When I came back and they have not seen her yet, I started going round the neighbourhood asking questions.
“As we were going round to ask people, the Baales were sending messages through town criers that anyone that saw her should come forward with the information.
“For two days, we went round in search of my daughter and my neighbour was with me all through the period. He was wearing the same red T-shirt that people saw him with while he took my daughter away. But he was following me as if he did not know anything about her disappearance.
“From December 23, we started hearing information that he was seen with my daughter, but I did not believe it because Success is very close to him. I have been very good to his family; I even connected my generator to his house to give them light.
“Whenever my daughter is given food, she will take it to eat with him. Once we bath her, she will take her clothe to him to wear for her. She usually slept in their house, so I did not want to believe that he was behind her disappearance.
“But three women later came to our house, among the three was a woman he bought bottled water from while he was with my daughter. So, the woman now said he saw him with my daughter and that after drinking from the water, he gave my daughter to drink and they left.
“I still did not believe what they were saying. I told them to stop lying against him until my wife got angry and went and reported to the police that I was also a suspect. That was how I was arrested with him on December 25 and we slept at the station.
“He was still denying it, until the women and all those who saw him with my daughter came to the police station and identified him.
“They even described the clothe he was wearing, which happened to be the same clothe he wore while he was following me about. That was how the police detained him.
“After some days, he confessed that he was the one who took her and that he sold her for N20,000 through somebody else to a man who lives in Okota.
“He said he cannot remember the man and the middle man who took the baby to the buyer usually stayed at a woman’s house here in Coconut.
“I have been going from church to church and they keep telling me that my daughter is alive.
“Okpara should let me know if he has killed my daughter. If my baby is still alive, he should say where she is. How can a man like that kidnap a little girl and since then he doesn’t want to say where she is? Police need to put pressure on him to say where my baby is.
“I have spent all my savings on the investigation of this matter. I have been giving the police money so that the case is not slowed down. Now I don’t even have money to pay for the school fees of my other children,” he said.
The woman in whose house the middleman usually slept was arrested but later released because she knew didn’t know anything about the case.
It was gathered that the middleman gave the child to a chief, who handed her over to his prophet for sacrifice.
All the locations mentioned by Okpara have been visited by the police but the child still hasn’t been found.
The Police have launched a manhunt for the buyer and the prophet he allegedly gave the child to. The investigation is supposedly still ongoing.
Mavin Records first lady, Tiwa Savage, during an interview programme on TVC, revealed she was in a 20-hours labour before she safely delivered her baby, Jamil.
The singer said while going through the pains, she was also throwing up and her mother was just there telling her it’s normal as she also went through same process.
According to her,
“I had 20 hours of labour and I was just throwing up in the hospital. In fact, while in the hospital, my mother was there with the midwife and she was shouting that “we went through the same thing,” so it was not easy but I thank God.”
