A Taekwondo athlete identified as Maria Uchenna Raphael, has been killed in a motor accident in Nasarawa State.
Maria, who was a silver medal winner for team Nasarawa in the just concluded Bayelsa Open Taekwondo tournament, was crushed to death by a truck in Lafia, the state capital on Friday, August 26.
The Nasarawa State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, in a statement on Saturday, revealed that Maria had gone to purchase some items from a grocery store along UAC road few hours after returning home from the championship in Yenagoa, which ended on August 24th, 2022.
The statement which was signed by the spokesperson of the ministry, Uche Amos, described the death as an unquantifiable loss, adding that her immense contributions to sports in the state would be sorely missed.
“Words fail us as we were greeted today by the ugly news on the sudden death of one of our illustrious medal-winning athletes, Maria Raphael,” the statement read.
“She also won silver medal for Team Nasarawa at the recently concluded Bayelsa Open Taekwondo Championships held from 21st to 24th August, 2022, in Yenagoa, South-South Nigeria.
“The deceased was a committed, dedicated and focused athlete, winning medals of different categories for Nasarawa State, ranging from Cadet, Junior, and until her untimely demise, Senior Category
“Maria brought lots of glory and honour to Nasarawa State at different sporting championships.
“Her demise is an unquantifiable loss to everyone of us at the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and Nasarawa State as a whole, while her immense contributions will be sorely missed.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with her immediate family, loved ones, fellow athletes and the sports world in general. We pray Almighty God to grant her soul eternal repose in heaven.”
The Journey in the Big Brother Naija house for fake housemate, Modella, has come to an end.

A Nigerian couple have set the internet buzzing after a video from their luxurious, grand wedding ceremony found its way to the internet.
The bride and groom made a spectacular entry when they arrived in a private jet and drove into the reception venue in a green Lamborghini in the now viral clip.

A woman identified as Farida Abubakar, has been arrested by the police in Kebbi State for allegedly killing her estranged husband, Attahiru Ibrahim Zagga.
It was gathered that the 30-year-old suspect allegedly stabbed her estranged husband to death at his residence in Alieru Quarters, Birnin Kebbi on Thursday night, August 25.
SP Nafiu Abubakar, who is the spokesperson of the command, released a statement on Friday, August 26, and it was revealed the deceased is a Magistrate judge with Kebbi State judiciary.
“At about 11:40pm on Thursday, Policemen attached to the Divisional Police Headquarters, Gwadangaji, received an information that, a suspected strange noise was heard from the house of the victim, Attahiru Ibrahim, and his gate was also locked.
On receipt of the information, a team of Policemen were swiftly mobilized to the scene and forced themselves into the house where they found the said Attahiru Ibrahim lying down in pool of his own bl@@d and was later confirmed de@d by a medical Doctor
Similarly, his estranged wife, Farida Abubakar, was also seen inside the compound. Hence, she was suspected and arrested in connection with the case,” the statement read.
A Nigerian woman has narrated how her life changed for the better after she quit prostitution.
The abroad-based lady, who revealed she finally quit due to the low pay, stated that young girls were being paid as low as €10 per client as at 2013.
According to her, she decided she could do more with herself in 2013, so she stopped being a prostitute and took some courses to upskill herself.

Following his eviction from the Big Brother house, Khalid, in an interview with Naija FM, praised female housemate Phyna’s intelligence and predicted that either she or Hermes would emerge as the winner of the seventh edition of the show.
He noted that in addition to being extremely energetic, Phyna was also incredibly brilliant, and he once observed her solving a complex mathematical sum while he was in the house.

Popular Nollywood actor, Kevin Uvo, has taken to social media to tackle his colleagues in the movie industry, who, according to him, are leading a fake life.

The Nigeria Police Force, NPF has suspended two Supernumerary Police Officers identified as Obaze Emmanuella Uju and Obaze Blessing for what has been described as discreditable conduct and violation of Social media policy.

This is coming on the heels of the suspension of two Supernumerary Police Officers, with immediate effect, for breach of the provisions of the Police Act, 2020, and The Nigeria Police Guidelines for Recruitment/Promotion/Discipline of Supernumerary Police (SPY) 2013 by the Inspector-General of Police, as captured in a video posted by one of the officers in a viral video on August 3, 2022.
The Supernumerary Police, by the combined effects of the Police Act, 2020 and the Nigeria Police Guidelines for Recruitment/Promotion/Discipline of Supernumerary Police (SPY),2013 was established solely to complement the services of regular Police Officers when needed by Ministries, Departments and Agencies/Multi-National Companies, and Banks who make requests and upon approval pay for their training and cover their emoluments for the period of their engagement. (Sections 21-24 of the Police Act, 2020).
It is equally important to mention that in line with Section 25 (2) (3) of the Police Act, 2020 and the Nigeria Police Guidelines for Recruitment/Promotion/Discipline of Supernumerary Police (SPY), 2013issued by the Inspector-General of Police (Guidelines for SPYs), the mode of dressing of SPY police mandates its SPY officers above the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police not to wear uniforms. Similarly, extant laws delineate the Supernumerary uniform. It states that they must be on their approved uniform, ash coloured shirt with “SPY” inscriptions all over, over black with shoulder badge carrying the word “SUPERNUMERARY”. Supernumerary Officers adorning police black, neon blue or camouflage uniforms run afoul of the law and would be adequately sanctioned.
The suspended supernumerary officers — Obaze Blessing with SPY number 5709, and Obaze Emmanuella Uju with SPY number 5708, adorned themselves in conventional police officers’ uniforms contrary to the code regulating the SPY service. One of them similarly adorned the rank of Superintendent of Police which is contrary to extant laws. Above all, they portrayed themselves in the viral video and other videos as undisciplined and unprofessional, in contravention of the Police Social Media Policy, with acts glorifying ill-gotten wealth and ill-morals, which has received wide condemnation from members of the public.
The Police hereby calls on all supernumerary officers to adhere strictly with extant laws as strict sanctions would apply to erring officers. The Force is similarly revisiting other matters of infractions against members of the Supernumerary Police with a view to handing out necessary sanctions to other defaulters.

Grace Jimoh, actor Yomi Fabiyi’s baby mama, has accused him of body shaming her due to the physical changes she underwent after giving birth to their son.
The mother of one, who welcomed a child with the thespian months ago, claims that he made several appalling remarks about her body after childbirth.
According to her, despite knowing she had never had stretch marks before, Yomi Fabiyi made fun of the ones that developed on her body after giving birth.
“I could not get over it when the father of my child told me see stretch marks over your body, what you definitely know I don’t have before I got pregnant!! Emotional abuse is the worst.” She said.

This comes after Nollywood actress, Helen Paul cautioned her colleague Yomi Fabiyi after the actor shared a video of his child’s mother at a vulnerable stage just to prove a point following a dramatic social media fight they had recently.
In the video that was shared by the actor, Amarachi Grace Jimoh was in labour as Yomi is seen smiling while the pregnant mum begged him to stop filming and call the doctor.
“When we were doing it at the time, you were enjoying it,” Yomi is heard telling Amarachi as she begged for the presence of a doctor.
Reacting to the video, Helen Paul took to the comment section to tell the actor that it’s wrong for him to share it online. Yomi took to his IG page to share the video after Amarachi accused him of not providing for her and their child.
Big Brother Naija season 7 housemate, Hermes, has reacted after his love interest, Allyson, seemingly asked him to leave his other girlfriends to be with only her.
Recall that when the 21-year-old was unveiled as one of the level-up housemates, he revealed that he was in a polyamorous relationship with two women.
According to him, both his women are aware of the situation they are in with him and are cool with it. When asked if he would be pursuing another relationship in Big Brother, he replied by saying maybe he would.
Well, Hermes, who has formed a budding relationship with female housemate, Allyson, on Thursday night, asked what she wanted as they talked about their relationship.
Allyson told Hermes, “I want you alone with your other girlfriends.”
Hermes, in response, tells his new love interest that what she’s asking for is impossible.
“That Is Impossible. It’s Not Going To Happen. ” He said.

In other news, Big Brother Naija season 7 housemate, Amaka, has been sanctioned for her negligence that almost burnt down Biggie’s house.
The level-up housemate who volunteered to make meat pies for the house for their pool party left the dough in the microwave oven timed at 20 minutes and exited the kitchen for the garden to join her colleagues.
The housemates got back to a house full of smoke and a damaged microwave oven.
Addressing the house about the incident, Biggie chided Amaka for her negligence that could have razed down the house and issued her a punishment.
As a punishment, Biggie banned Amaka from using the new microwave appliance in the kitchen for one week.
A Nigerian man recently broke down at a shopping mall in Benin City, Edo state capital, after seeing the prices of baby diapers.
In a video captured by a fellow shopper, the man was lost in thought and emotionally downcast after seeing the price of the essential baby product.
The man, who seemed to be contemplating if he should buy the diapers or not, kept looking at the products with so much sadness and worry in his eyes.
However, it is not clear if he is a new father.

In other news, a Nigerian lady has taken to social media to share a video of her husband’s reaction after she refused to have sex with him.
In the video, the man jokingly told her he owns her because he paid her bride price in full so she must be ready to sleep with him whenever he wants.
He brought out the long list of items he was told to provide during their traditional wedding ceremony and pointed out that he bought every single item in the list, and doesn’t owe anyone a dime.
He added that he was made to ‘settle’ about seven departments at their wedding, and he willingly paid the money without a second thought so she must do his bidding.
The Nigerian man who was caught on camera harassing a police officer who had tried to apprehend him for allegedly driving against traffic has been arrested.
In the viral clip, the motorist, identified as Billy King Tokunbo, pulled the police officer by the waist of his pants and dragged him towards his car. Read here.
Giving an update via Twitter, Lagos state police spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the accused man’s car with registration number LSR 430 FT has been impounded and he will be arraigned in court for traffic offence and assault on a police officer.
“The suspect, Billy King Tokunbo, who drove against traffic, was immediately arrested. His Toyota Corolla car with registration number LSR 430 FT was equally impounded immediately. He is to be arraigned for his traffic offence and assault on a police officer. Updates to follow.” Hundeyin wrote.

In other news, popular Nigerian singer, Akinbiyi Abiola Ahmed, otherwise known as Bella Shmurda, recently confronted a concertgoer who disrespected him at an event.
Bella Shmurda was a guest artiste at a recent show held at the Lagos State University (LASU) and was performing when the concertgoer made a disapproving remark about his performance.
The ‘Cash App’ crooner didn’t take kindly to the guy’s criticism and halted his performance to tackle him for disrespecting him.
A video showing his outburst has been shared online, and he is seen asking the guy what was wrong with him and if ‘he knows he’s in LASU’.
Bella then called on the security guards to fish out the guy from the crowd and bring him on stage.
A viral video has captured the heartwarming moment some child beggars contributed money for their benefactor after he told them he was hungry.
The young man, who often gives the children cash gifts whenever he sees them begging on the streets, decided to tell them he was hungry and didn’t have any money to eat, to see their reaction.
The moment the youngsters learnt their benefactor was hungry, they contributed money from what they had made that day and handed it over to him to get food.
He shook hands with each of the kids and praised them for their thoughtful act. However, he returned the money and gave each of them a N1,000 note to share.
The endearing video received beautiful comments on social media, with many people applauding the children.

Veteran Nollywood actress, Ada Ameh, has been laid to rest in her hometown in Ogobia, Otukpo local government of Benue state, today, Friday, August 26, 2022.
The body of the late Nollywood star arrived at her father’s compound for interment at noon today.
Colleagues, family, and friends in attendance could not hold back their tears as her body was lowered to the ground in a white casket.
Ada Ameh’s best friend, Empress Njamah, was seen in her dark funeral dress, weeping bitterly.
The burial activities started with a novelty match and a candlelight service on August 19 in Lagos, where the actress lived most of her life.
It would be recalled that Ada Ameh died in Warri, Delta state, on Sunday, July 17 at the age of 48, two years after the death of her daughter, Ladi.

Meanwhile, popular TV sitcom, ‘The Johnsons’, held a night of tribute event in honour of one of their own, late Nollywood actress, Ada Ameh.
To honour her memory, the cast and crew of the show hosted a candle night procession at the Freedom Park in Lagos state on Thursday, August 18.
Some of the Nollywood stars who attended the event includes, Charles Inojie, Susan Pwajok, Seun Osigbesan, and others.
They all wore customized T-shirts with ‘Forever in our hearts’ and ‘Adieu Emuakpor’ inscribed on them.
