Women’s rights activist and writer, Laila St. Matthew-Daniel has reacted to the proposed bill to ban crossdressing in the country.
On Tuesday, April 5, the House of Representative received a bill sponsored by a member, Muda Lawal Umar, to outlaw cross-dressing in the country and it passed the first reading.
If the bill is passed into law, crossdressing will become a punishable offence in Nigeria with a six-month jail term, with the exception of those using it for entertainment purposes.
This has stirred mixed reactions online as crossdressers like Bobrisky, James Brown and others are at risk of being punished.
Reacting, Laila said there are more important bills to be passed into law, rather than a bill on crossdressing.
“So many important bills to pass on areas of security, reduced allowances, child marriage, women’s equity etc and a ‘cross dressing’ bill is more important? Who the heck are these lawmakers.” she wrote.
Nollywood actor, Frederick Leonard has averred that not using deodorants or body spray should be considered an offense punishable by law.
In a post shared on his Instagram page, the actor said everyone should use deodorants especially if their job involves a lot of physical exertion, in order not to inconvenience their colleagues with their body odour.
According to him, it doesn’t cost much to get a deodorant and anyone can afford it, irrespective of the income level.
He wrote,
“Not Using DEODORANT/BODY SPRAY should be an OFFENSE PUNISHABLE BY LAW! USE DEODORANTS!
“Especially if your Work is Tedious & involves a Lot of Body Movement, You will Sweat, and when You Sweat you STINK!
“It’s Not Expensive. No matter how low You Earn, You Can Afford it.
“Use the money you spend on calls to Gossip and Buy Data to Visit Gossip Blogs on social media to Fresh up Yourself and Smell Good, So You Don’t Kill Your Colleagues and Co-workers.”
The House of Representatives has introduced a bill to prohibit crossdressing in Nigeria.
The new bill was proposed by a member of the House of Representatives, Umar Muda.
The bill which was read aloud on the House floor on Tuesday, April 5, seeks to ban cross-dressing, with the exception of individuals using for it entertainment.
If this proposed bill is passed into law, popular crossdressers like Bobrisky, James Brown, and others risk six months in prison.
The bill aims to alter the same-sex marriage (prohibition) act of 2013 by adding cross-dressing to the list of offenses under the act.
“A person engaging in cross-dressing is guilty of an offence and liable to imprisonment of 6months or a fine of five hundred thousand naira.” The bill reads.
Meanwhile, crossdresser and Nigerian Big girl, Bobrisky has churned out a little piece of advise for ‘broke men’, asking them to join him and other crossdressers in the ”crossdressing business” as it is now very lucrative.
“If you are a man and you are still broke!!! Don’t waste time just join this cross-dressing business, there is money in it. You can also cut your prick off if you wanna upgrade well”, he said.

I was at work on Tuesday and I had this real extreme pain in my stomach. I went to the doctor in hysterics and he referred me straight to the hospital. I was in so much pain I couldn’t hold in my tears. My doctor said to me ‘I’m so, so sorry you’re in so much pain’. I was limping when I was walking all hunched over.
“At hospital, I started blaming my boyfriend because I do always hold my farts in around him. We’ve been together two years and it’s still the case. Kyle was dying laughing. He honestly didn’t know what to say. He said, ‘God, people are going to think you’re afraid of everything with me. At this stage, I’ll just have to let it out from now on.” She said.
Cara left the hospital two days later, on Thursday evening, March 31.
“It wasn’t one of those hectic surgeries that it used to be a while ago. I’m on strong painkillers and I should be back to work in the next week or so.” she said.
