Adele reveals she was disappointed by women’s comments about her weight loss
British singer, Adele has expressed her disappointment with what some women said about her weight loss transformation.
Adele, who used to be plus-size but lost about 100 pounds after exercising consistently for two years, shared this in her Vogue cover story published on Thursday, October 7.
Her new look was met with mixed reactions on social media as some people attacked her for looking “too skinny”, while others remarked that she shouldn’t have yielded to the pressure to lose weight.
A Twitter user wrote in 2020, “Am I the only one that misses old Adele?! she really didn’t have to lose all that weight. She [sic] already looked so gorgeous and confident Noooo Adele.”
Another tweet shared one month after Adele debuted her slimmer figure at Drake’s party in 2019 reads, “Celebrating Adele’s weight loss is a garbage thing to do for a million reasons. Here are two: 1. It tells your fat friends you think their bodies are a problem to be solved. 2. The weight loss could be the result of physical or mental health struggles. Weird to cheer about!”
Speaking about her dramatic weight loss on Vogue, the British music star said her body has been objectified her entire career and women were the ones championing the “brutal conversations”. She added that she understands the outrage from women because she visually represented a lot of them.
“My body’s been objectified my entire career. It’s not just now. I understand why it’s a shock.”
“I understand why some women especially were hurt. Visually I represented a lot of women. But I’m still the same person.
“And the worst part of the whole thing was that the most brutal conversations were being had by other women about my body. I was very f–king disappointed with that. That hurt my feelings.
“It became my time. I realized that when I was working out, I didn’t have any anxiety. It was never about losing weight.
“I thought, If I can make my body physically strong, and I can feel that and see that, then maybe one day I can make my emotions and my mind physically strong.”
The singer also gushed over her new boyfriend, Rich Paul, whom she said has helped her keep a positive mindset.
“Rich just incredibly arrived. I don’t feel anxious or nervous or frazzled. It’s quite the opposite. It’s wild — and there is no second-guessing. I’m a 33-year-old divorced mother of a son, who’s actually in charge.
“The last thing I need is someone who doesn’t know where they’re at, or what they want. I know what I want. And I really know what I don’t want.”
Adele was previously married to Simon Konecki, who fathered her 9-year-old son, Angelo.
