In response to a visitor’s social media outcry regarding the condition of the canopy walkway at the Lekki Conservation Centre (LCC), the Lagos State Government has promptly ordered the immediate closure of the facility.

Prioritizing the safety of residents, the government has also demanded extensive repairs to be carried out without delay.

Director-General of the Lagos State Safety Commission, Lanre Omojola, led a team on a visit to the Centre and affirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring the well-being of Lagosians.

During the inspection, it was discovered that the faulty canopy walkway had already been repaired.

In a statement, the management of Lekki Conservation-Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) addressed the incident, clarifying that the broken metal brace on the canopy walkway did not go unnoticed.

Technicians promptly attended to the issue on the same day it was reported, temporarily closing the walkway for repairs.

The Foundation emphasized that it’s technicians are highly trained and have the necessary expertise to construct and maintain the facility.

The LCC, renowned for its Africa’s longest canopy walk, has a reputation for maintaining an accident-free environment since its opening in 2015.

The facility regularly undergoes maintenance to ensure the safety and satisfaction of its visitors.

As part of this protocol, the Centre officially closed for routine maintenance on January 16, 2024, and is set to reopen on February 1, 2024.

They expressed gratitude for the understanding of visitors during the temporary closure and promised a safe experience upon reopening.
