Several parts of Abuja have been thrown into darkness following a fault at the Apo Transmission Substation.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced the development on Wednesday, explaining that a 100MVA transformer at the 132/33kV Apo Transmission Substation tripped in the early hours of the day.
According to the company, the incident affected four 33kV feeders, identified as H31, H33, H35 and H37.
TCN said an oil spillage was discovered on the red-phase high-voltage bushing of the transformer, adding that its maintenance team had begun investigating the fault to determine its exact cause.
“The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, hereby informs the public that the 100MVA TR4 transformer at the 132/33kV Apo Transmission Substation tripped in the early hours of today.
“Our maintenance crew are already carrying out a detailed investigation on the transformer to ascertain the exact cause of the tripping, to enable us effect repairs and restore the transformer,” the company stated.
Following the incident, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company confirmed that electricity supply had been disrupted in several locations across the Federal Capital Territory.
Affected areas include Apo Legislative Quarters, Lokogoma, Apo Resettlement and other parts of Abuja.
