“Why don’t we wait until Trump actually takes office? I am just going about my normal commitments, but definitely not getting into any more commitments. Let’s put it that way for now,” he said.

Days before the United States presidential election held, Soyinka had threatened to tear his permit should Republican candidate, Donald Trump emerge winner.

Following Trump’s victory on Wednesday, November 9, 2016, Nigerians had taken to social media to request that the Nobel laureate made through his threat.

  1. JUST BELIEVE IN YOUR SELF- BUSINESS LESSONS FROM DONALD TRUMP’S VICTORY. Many people are celebrating the victory of Donald Trump today but I don’t know how many people believed he would ever win. When it became very obvious that everything was against him, I was afraid for him. Consider the fact that Trump was up against all the former Presidents of America, he was up against the incumbent president, he was up against Michelle Obama, he was up against Hollywood and the American celebrities, he was up against the Gay movement, he was up against all illegal immigrants, he was up against the the American press including the almighty CNN. Even France president wants to vomit at the mention of Trump, back here in Nigeria the “prophecy” was not in his favour, some were going to tear their green cards. But guess what? Despite all the oppositions, there was one person that did not only believe that Donald Trump was the best candidate for that position but also that he was going to win, and that person is DONALD TRUMP himself. Not even in the face of all those scandals did he for once weaver from his believe that he was going to be the president of America. The lessons for me and I guess any entrepreneur will want to take this home is that: 1. Trump believe so much in himself and the fact that he could fix the American problems. 2. He didn’t need the endorsement of others to believe in himself. 3. He was so blunt in declaring what he stands for and what he feels is right irrespective of who it is that feels otherwise 4. He was resilient even in the face of challenges. 5. He was able to exploit the weakness of his competition 6. Most importantly he was able to connect with the voters and those are the people that really matters. I BELIEVE HE WILL MAKE A GOOD PRESIDENT Now come to think of it. If Clinton had won, she will owe so much to The Obamas and all the other godfathers, but who will claim to be the reason for Trump’s victory, who is his godfather, who will be expecting him to take orders from him or her? For once, let’s have a successful business become a president (that is what I have always wished for my dear country Nigeria). Let them apply the same principles they used in building their businesses to run our country and will see if we can have a difference. Trump has done it in the private sector and I believe he can do it in the public sector. WHAT ABOUT YOU? Now, keep Trump aside for a minute. What about you? Do you have a vision for yourself or your country? How many people have told you that you can’t? Are you already discouraged because powerful forces are against you and no one seems to believe in you? The question is DO YOU BELIEVE YOU CAN? Where is your self confidence? Are you really going to go back because you have met an Obama or a Clinton on your way? If a thousand Obamas, Clintons, Bushes etc couldn’t stop Trump I think nothing can stop you. You will succeed! #DontEverFightWithAnEntrepreneur

  10. Yes, I agree with Itz Felistar Chi. Soyinka only used “Irony”. What he meant was that if Trump wins, he will safeguard his green card as a priceless Nigerian-American. It means his green card has become even more precious to him.

  11. The truth is, he has seen better days in life. He is only coming back to Nigeria to spend his remaining days on earth. He has nothing to loss. Please, come back home safely, OK… Don’t forget to bring your smoking pipe and snuff cos that’s what old men need when they retire..

  12. Why is it that when having fun here and laughing to our comment some people will go about insulting someone, if you can’t laugh with the rest people why not just go sit down. Well mr is only playing oooo lol

  13. “I will tear my green card”It shouldnt be interpreted from the literal point of view..It may be a proverb,an idiomatic expression,or an anverbial clause of precision.

  14. He’s a Yoruba man , they can never change from being a cameleon they’re. That was what their elders did when they agreed with Ojukwu to declare Oduduwa state instead they got home n refused in the said agreements. That’s how Biafra was on their own to fight the 3yrs civil war with the Nigerian army . They’re good chameleons

  15. Hmmmmmmm…Have said without prejudice that the likes of Mr. Wole Soyinka are not respected men any longer and they are also part of problems we are facing too as far as am concerned… We urge him to honorably redeemed his pledge without any stupid excuses….
