The Police on Thursday arraigned a 23-year-old man, Samuel Aondofa, for allegedly disguising as a woman so as to gain sexual advances from men.

Aondofa, popularly known as “Deborah”, appeared before a Makurdi Chief Magistrate’s court charged with criminal deception.

The police prosecutor, Mr Omaye Ujata, one Vivian Enger, a resident of International Market area, Makurdi, reported the case at the “E” Division police station.

Ujata quoted Enger as saying that the accused, a resident of Tyogbenda Jagh-Kur village in Buruku Local Government Area of Benue, disguised himself as a woman and was employed as a sales girl at her (Enger)’s beer parlour located in the said village.

He further quoted Enger as saying that Aondofa changed his name to “Deborah” so as to attract the attention of male customers.

“The accused was later discovered after series of complaints from customers. He was arrested and, during police investigation, confessed to the crime,” the prosecutor told the court.

Ujata said that investigation into the matter was ongoing and pleaded with the court for additional time to complete it.

He said that the offense contravened Section 285 of the Penal Code Laws of Benue State.

However, when the case came up for mention, the accused denied all the allegations.

The Magistrate, Ibrahim Mohammed, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with one reasonable surety in like sum, who must be resident in Makurdi town.

Mohammed adjourned the case until May 11 for further mention.
