former oau vc

The embattled ex-acting vice-chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, Prof. Anthony Elujoba, who was recently ordered to be remanded in Ilesha Prisons after his bail application was dismissed by Justice David Oladimeji of the Federal High Court in Ede, Osun State has been granted bail.

He was arraigned by the EFCC over alleged misappropriation of N1.4billion but the ex-vc was granted bail by Justice David Oladimeji, of an Osun State High Court this morning based on self-recognition while the bursar was granted bail in the sum of N50 million and two sureties.

Delivering his ruling, Justice David Oladimeji granted bail on self-recognition to Elujoba while the bursar was granted bail in the sum of N50 million and two sureties.

This sparked wild jubilation among the former VC’s supporters – mainly staff and students of the institution at the court premises – as chants of his name rent the air.

His arrest and subsequent detention has been met with wild protests by the university community among whom he remains hugely popular.

Justice Oladimeji shifted his sitting from the High Court in Ede to Osogbo amid tight security after scores of OAU workers and students had laid siege to proceedings in Ede on Tuesday demanding that the earlier remand order be reversed.

Elujoba is generally credited for restoring peace to OAU in his one-year tenure as VC by prompt payment of workers’ salaries and improving the welfare of students.
