Akeredolu is dead

The Governor of Ondo state, Rotimi Akeredolu, has passed away after a prolonged battle with leukemia.

The politician, who was born in Owo, Ondo state, gave up the ghost in Lagos state on Wednesday, December 27, at the age of 67.

It was gathered that he was being managed by State House doctors in Lagos because they could not take him overseas for medical treatment.

A reliable source said,

“Akeredolu is dead; he died in Lagos.”

“They were looking for dialysis machines to be sent to his secret location in Lagos last week.”

According to reports, Akeredolu faced an undisclosed health challenge after undergoing medical treatment abroad in June. Upon his return to Nigeria in September, he chose to stay in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, from where he continued to govern his state.

This sparked mixed reactions from his people. On Wednesday, December 13, he took another medical leave and formally delegated power to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who subsequently assumed the role of governor in an acting capacity.

In light of her husband’s health condition, Akeredolu’s wife, Betty, announced the suspension of planned activities for her 70th birthday party via Twitter posts. This decision followed concerns raised about holding festivities amid her husband’s illness.

She tweeted,

“Hello Family and Friends. This is to inform you that all activities lined up to mark my 70th birthday are hereby suspended till further notice due to unforeseen circumstances beyond my control. Sorry for any inconvenience caused by this development.

“Nevertheless, be assured that I will be celebrated in style upon my return. Thank you for your understanding. I remain Arabinrin a.k.a Ada Owere I.”

May the governor’s soul rest in peace!
