The police have launched an investigation into the suspected murder of construction engineer, Humphrey Uchenna Nnaji, at his residence in Abuja.

The decomposing corpse of the deceased was discovered in his apartment in the Dawaki area of the Federal Capital Territory on Saturday, July 8, 2023.

According to The PUNCH, Nnaji was killed by suspected assailants who gained entry into his apartment.

It was reported that Nnaji’s neighbors, who were unaware of the incident, began to notice a foul odor emanating from his apartment and promptly alerted the police.

A local commercial driver, simply identified as Musa, stated that when the policemen arrived to investigate the case and gained entry into the apartment, they found Nnaji’s remains on a chair.

“The engineer’s corpse was found in his apartment in the Dawaki area. The policemen came to evacuate his corpse on Saturday around 8pm. The corpse was already decomposing, indicating that the incident might have occurred before Saturday. People in the area are still struggling to comprehend how the incident happened. The house has been cordoned off,” he said.

A source within the FCT Police Command revealed that while examining the crime scene, the police found a hammer beside Nnaji’s corpse, along with a written note claiming responsibility for the killing by an individual who identified himself as Alfa.

The note alleged that the murder was in retaliation for the death of Alfa’s sister and accused Nnaji of being involved in “Yahoo Plus”.

“The deceased must have been killed with a hammer. A sledgehammer with blood stains was found beside him. Also, the backside of his (Nnaji’s) head had a deep cut. He was seated on his chair with two pieces of handset charging cord cables around his neck.

“Also, a (written) note by someone who identified himself as Alfa was seen on his table. He claimed he killed the deceased to avenge the death of his sister and also accused him of using other girls for Yahoo Plus.” the source said.

The spokesperson for the FCT command, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation into the matter was currently underway.
