Zimbabwean filmmaker and journalist, Violet Avoid, has taken her own life just a day after celebrating her 33rd birthday.

Violet, who gain prominence after featuring in Andy Muridzo and Jeetaz Band’s music video ‘Malowe,’ reportedly committed suicide by consuming rat poison.

This tragic decision comes two months after she narrated how her life took a drastic turn following a rape incident at a work function.

She had revealed that after a night of wild drinking, she woke up the following morning to discover that she had been raped.

She said she was filled with confusion and distress as she was unable to identify the rapist who took advantage of her while she was drunk.

According to her, she didn’t tell anyone about the incident, not even her husband. Instead, she choose to take morning-after pills with the hope of avoiding pregnancy.

She then continued to live her life, howbeit consumed with guilt. Sadly, she eventually found out that she was pregnant.

She said she considered attributing the pregnancy to her husband but couldn’t because he had been out of town for at least three months.

With time, her husband started noticing that she was pregnant but she vehemently denied it. The stress took a toll on her health and she fell ill.

Her husband suggested that she seeks medical help but she refused, leading to a heated argument. Things took a turn for the worse when her husband’s friend, also her boss, intervened, resulting in a physical fight.

In the process, her husband got seriously injured after her boss knocked him over and he hit his head on the corner of the table.

He was thereafter rushed to the hospital while bleeding and in serious pain. However, Violet was remanded in prison for days until her boss turned himself into the police. Upon her release, she started caring for her husband, who remained hospitalized.

However, following his discharge, he sent her packing from their matrimonial home. Sadly, she left with no money, job or family to turn to or anywhere to go.

Fortunately, she managed to secure a job and accommodation at the Seventh Day Adventist church, where she worked as a farmer.

However, it appears that she couldn’t handle the trials and travails anymore, and ultimately chose to end it all.
