The Managing director of Lekki Garden Homes Richard Nyong, has been granted bail on self-recognition by a Magistrate Court in Ebute Metta, Lagos State.

Nyong was arraigned by the Lagos State government for the collapse of a five storey building in Lekki that resulted in the loss of over 30 lives.

His company, Lekki Gardens was in charge of the construction of the building before the fatal collapse on Tuesday, March 8.

Lagos State officials say preliminary findings reveal that the collapsed building exceeded the maximum number of floors approved by authorities.

Also, Chief Magistrate Afolashade Botoku, granted bail to Taiwo Odofin, one of the contractors in the project, in the sum of N10 million with two sureties in like sum.

Botoku, who decried the attitude of the authorities in handling the case, ordered them to report at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Panti-Yaba, everyday till the police complete their investigations.

She also said that the defendants would submit their international passports and were not permitted to travel out of the country till the conclusion of the case.

Botoku had on March 11 ordered the remand of Nyong and Taiwo when they were arraigned following a remand application brought before it by the police.
