Microfinance bank manager commits

Sola Ogungbe, a 41-year-old manager at SEAP Micro-Finance Bank Saki, has tragically taken his own life at his residence in Iseyin town, Oyo State.

According to The Nation, Ogungbe committed suicide on Wednesday, June 14, after some customers failed to pay back the N1 million loan he had facilitated for them.

A colleague of the deceased was said to have contacted Ogungbe’s wife on Wednesday afternoon after he failed to show up at work over the loan default crisis.

When she got home that evening to inform her husband about the call, she reportedly met his corpse.

A close friend of the deceased, who pleaded anonymity, said it is regrettable that the deceased chose to end his own life instead of seeking help from his friends.

“The issue of suicide is becoming alarming, Sola made a great mistake by taking his own life because of debt, if he had shared this issue with his friends, maybe somebody would have come to his aid,” he said.

“Everyone is going through one thing or the other but our survival is anchored upon a communal living and friendship, tell people about your issues, you don’t even know who can help you.”

The remains of the deceased has been taken to his hometown in Omu- Aran, Kwara State for burial.
