Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh is again under fire on social media, after United Nations reportedly exonerated themselves and tagged the ambassadorial award she recently flaunted as fake.

The mother of one yesterday, via her verified Instagram alleged that she was honored as a “UNITED NATIONS NOBLE INTERNATIONAL AMBASSADOR for the United Nations RESCUE SERVICES”.
However, moments later a popular Instagram blogger, Xoxocruise, called her out, claiming that the award is fake. According to the blogger, those who gave the award are not in anyway connected to United Nations and only aiming to target innocent and gullible Nigerians through the media attention and scam them of their money.

The blogger wrote,
“PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT : Swipe to see evidence ===>
Who will help me tell Tonto Dikeh that the Ambassador award she was given is a scam and those involved are aiming to target innocent and gullible Nigerians through the media attention this so-called award brings… And the end result is to scam them of their hard earned money ?“From the 2nd slide you can read a WhatsApp conversation I had with my Uncle last year who would have been scammed to transfer his hard earned retirement money worth millions ! They approached him to contribute money for a fake “UN Housing project in Nigeria” to bring some millions for the projet to be awarded and after he’ll make profits…My further investigation proved that their website is creepy and Facebook account is filled with fake charity projects they’re claiming to represent the UN but it’s not true.
“Note that UNDP is responsible for such development project and they work with each UN country offices involved. Not some drunk looking imposter claiming to be some chief Ambassador and giving fake awards to Nollywood stars in order to catfish more victims.
“I will go ahead and add that with my experience working with the United Nation’s there is no such UN agency called the above name …The final slide from BBC @bbcnewspidgin further proves my point.
Merely looking at Tonto’s post you can the influence such fake award is pulling and the danger of victims who will fall into such schemes. Her fellow colleagues are congratulating, hailing and cheering her on.
They don’t bother check before validation endorsing…. Is this the Nigeria we all looking forward to ?“I’m not against Tonto or any Nigerian celebrity but please guys try and verify before you’re used as part of a 419 scheme. Doesn’t tell well with the damages after all.“
Similarly, a report by BBC says the director of the United Nations Information Center for Nigeria, Ronald Kayanja also claimed the award has no linking with the United Nations.
According to Kayanja, there is a number of civil society organizations around the world that participate in UN meetings of the Economic Social Council (ECOSOC) but that does not mean that they are members of the United Nations.
The blogger also shared an alleged chat as evidence of a victim being swindled after he contributed money for a fake United Nations housing project in Nigeria. See the chat below,

Media Personality, Morayo Afolabi-Brown, has shared her thoughts on the ongoing Davido&Chioma Saga, and the reports that Chioma did not finish her education as she was drawn to Davido’s fame and affluence.

The topic was first aired on her TV show and one of the presenters seemingly shaded Chioma as she prayed for her own kids to “have sense” in matters as such. (Read Here)

Social media users frowned at the TV Host’s comment and they took to her page to lambaste her.

Reacting to this, she took to her social media page to state that If Chioma chose that path and is successful, it should however not be the standard and it should be not be encouraged.
In her words ;
For those of you who sent insults to @beeceeugboh for her comment on this issue, this post is for you. Nothing is wrong with disagreeing with her. That’s what the show is about, expressing diverse views but insulting her was wrong. Many of you want to go to America, Canada or UK but you don’t respect divergent views. Why would you insult someone for expressing her view?
Secondly, she did not insult Chioma. What she was alluding to is that we must teach our children sense.
I know having children inside wedlock is going out of fashion, but should we, because we don’t want to “be dragged” accept this malady? We all scream to the government to follow due process but when it comes to relationships we throw due process to the wind. We teach children to finish school, then get married. We have very few role models today like Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Shola David-Bora, Oby Ezekwesili, Jumoke Adenowo and Ibukun Awosika. Unfortunately, some other prominent role models today did not follow this path and because they have money, we should overlook it? We are so used to calling good bad and bad good. I don’t know any parent that will be happy to see their child leave university and follow man. When I was growing up that was unheard of. However, if it happens we’ll still support the child the best we can but we must not make it the norm. We must discourage others from toeing this line.
If Chioma chose this path, we’ll accept her for who she is and the success she has become but that should not become the standard. Oun ti o da ko da, ko lo ru ko meji.

“The beauty and challenge of parenthood is that as tightly as you would like to hold on to your precious one, you continually need to let go”. I now truly understand that there is nothing like seeing your tiny tod all grown up and dressed in the bridal attire for her Big Day.
I must tell you, there is no such sacred bond like father and daughter. Today has been such a roller- coaster ride of emotions for me, looking at my little angel dressed up as the most beautiful ‘Bride’ in her ‘Nikah Wedding Dress’. Surely, this is a momentous time in every parent’s life. Letting go of your daughter is not a simple act but this is an inevitable part that cannot be dodged no matter how badly you want to.

Ayo Shonaiya’s 9-part documentary, ‘Afrobeats: The Back Story’ premiered last Friday, and not only were we pleasantly taken down memory lane with many of our favourite songs from back in the day, we were also taken behind the scenes to an expose of the journey and growth that was, as well as the legends who pushed the genre into the limelight that it currently basks in.

One thing that was evident from the documentary is that Afrobeat as we know it didn’t just come to be, neither has it always been what it is now. A lot went on behind the scenes for years and years before the genre metamorphosed into the formidable entity that has become the rave in the music world.

Another thing that the documentary made obvious is the fact that Afrobeat, in so many ways shaped the Nigerian music industry. It makes you wonder what else contributed to the big bang success the industry has experienced. And one name comes to mind; TECNO.

You see, TECNO’s smartphones were the first-ever devices, precisely TECNO Boom J7, to come pre-installed with the Boomplay app, thus introducing Boomplay to Nigeria’s smartphone users and accelerating the adoption of music app streaming and subscription-based models in Nigeria.
The leading music streaming and download service has signed up over 44 million users and hosts the largest online African music catalogue in the world.

The app’s services have helped people listen to more music than ever before. Not just that, it is now easier for smaller and DIY artists to get their music heard. And it has largely eliminated music piracy.
These few listed reasons point to why streaming has been beneficial for the music industry, especially with respect to revenue.

Strolling down this particular memory lane has given us sweet nostalgia, but even deeper than that is knowing that history binds us in many ways than we realise. In the case of TECNO and Afrobeat; history will show that they both are intrinsically a part of the evolution of the Nigerian music industry.
