A veterinary doctor has warned people that pets like cats and dogs could help pass Coronavirus between humans even though the chances of that happening are very slim.

The Vet doctor was responding to concerns about whether humans can catch Coronavirus from their pets.

A tiger at a New York City zoo tested positive for Coronavirus in what is believed to be the first known Covid-19 case in a US animal or tiger and transmitted it to other six other lions and tigers in the zoo. Scientists say pets can’t transmit the virus to humans but a vet doctor Dr Scott Miller says he believes pets can transfer the virus using their fur.

Dr Scott speaking on British daytime TV programme ‘This Morning’ with TV Host Philip Scoffield said: ‘So at the moment we don’t believe that cats can, or any animal, pass it back to us from the initial infection.

‘Now we don’t believe at all that dogs or cats can transmit it back to us as an infected host. ‘What we are concerned about is that they may be able to act as a surface – so if someone with Covid-19 coughs on their dog and then takes it for a walk, then you pet their dog and then touch your face, you could potentially pick up Covid-19 that way – although the chances are very very low.’

Dr Scott added: ‘This case with the tiger – there’s also been one reflected in a domestic cat in Belgium – where that cat did actually did show some coronavirus symptoms, i.e. had respiratory symptoms and had diarrhoea.

‘Its owner did have coronavirus, both were tested and proven to have a positive result, but they have both since recovered. ‘There is some concern and that is something very much that the veterinary profession will be watching, but it all boils down really to just good hygiene, and don’t touch other people’s pets at this time.’

UPDATED: Lagos denies report on minimum age for admission to JSS 1

The Lagos state government has denied reports making the round especially on social media concerning minimum age for admission into junior secondary schools in the state.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Office of the Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo no decision has been made on the issue yet.

The commissioner said the issue, which is still under review in the Ministry of Education, has been a matter of great concern to the present administration.

In her words, “This is to affirm that the Ministry of Education has indeed received concerns from various stakeholders regarding this subject. As a consequence, meetings were held with various stakeholders with correspondence and minutes exchanged”.

Adefisayo disclosed further that subsequent meetings were also scheduled with various categories of stakeholders such as Executives of Private Schools Associations and Parent Bodies, Office of Education Quality Assurance, State Universal Basic Education Board, Lagos State Examination Board, All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPPS) and Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), among others.

Noting that the meetings had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the commissioner averred that the state government will involve all stakeholders in the rigorous process of implementing the National Policy on Education in the State.

“The public is hereby assured that as soon as normalcy returns, these meetings will be held, and details of the State’s final position on the matter will be made available to all stakeholders, both digitally and in hard copy through the state media platforms”, she stated.

Adefisayo, however, pointed out that education is not only cognitive and that other aspects must also be given due attention and consideration in order to produce youths who will be able to function effectively in the 21st Century.

“Furthermore, the expected years of schooling at each level of education is entrenched in the National Policy on Education. The adverse effects of non-completion of the Primary School Curriculum and being rushed into Junior Secondary School before physical, mental, emotional and social maturity of children is well-researched and documented”, she stated.

The Commissioner also stressed the importance of not putting the cart before the horse, saying “As mentioned, we have outlined concerns on this matter and all issues raised will be discussed and due process will be followed before implementation.

Pastor Chris is a disappointment – Daddy Freeze slams Christ Embassy founder for saying FG needed to lockdown Lagos and Abuja to install 5G

Daddy Freeze

Daddy Freeze has taken a big swipe at Pastor Chris Oyakhilome over his recent comment of the federal government having a secret plan for 5G.

Recall that the founder of Loveworld Ministries a.k.a Christ Embassy, Pastor Chris had alleged that the Federal government placed a lockdown in Lagos and Abuja to install the controversial 5G network. He said this while preaching in his church on Sunday April 5.

He opined that what has killed so many people in Wuhan, China is not Coronavirus as has been reported but rather it is the 5G network installed there. He challenged anyone with a different opinion to come forward.

Daddy Freeze who reacted to Pastor Chris’ comment, stated that it is rooted deeply in illusory correlation, attitude polarization and belief perseverance. He added that Christ Embassy founder’s recent teachings is dangerous.

He said;

“I am disappointed in Chris Oyakhilome. How can the Federal Government has secret 5G plan? What on earth is this? How can he get away with saying such things? The deaths in Wuhan were caused by 5G not Corona virus? Like WTF?

“According to him, the federal government needed to lockdown Lagos and Abuja to install 5G? Really? Like the government needs anyone’s approval to install anything.

“As far as I’m concerned, this is rooted deeply in illusory correlation, attitude polarization and belief perseverance, making teachings like these dangerous.

“How I wish I can ‘unhear’ this, I can’t believe I just wasted a part of the few daylight hours at my disposal listening to such.”

I fought coronavirus with carrots, black seed oil, honey, vitamin C – Governor Seyi Makinde

Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde has revealed that he consumed carrots, black seed oil mixed with honey and vitamin C to fight the Coronavirus disease.

Makinde tested negative for the virus On Sunday April 5 after initially testing positive barely a week from that date.

The Governor, who spoke in an interview with Fresh FM Ibadan on Monday April 6, said in order to boost his immune system to fight the virus, he consumed vitamin C, carrots and black seed oil mixed with honey.

His words ;

“My very good friend and brother, Dr Muyideen Olatunji is the one in charge of the primary healthcare for Oyo State. He came to me and said, look, I am going to send to you this black seed oil, it boosts immunity. So, I mixed it with honey and took one teaspoon in the morning and one in the evening.

So, there are local solutions to boost immunity. Our people should not fret. Just as I’ve been able to get the virus out off my system, so will it be for majority of our people. I’ve lost a little bit of weight which I think is good. When you’re in isolation, the tendency is just to watch television and eat, I was eating amala. But I was also using the treadmill. It has also been a period to reflect and look at the programmes, policies and the things we want to do for the people of Oyo state and also reflect on how the COVID-19 is going to affect us socially and economically.”
