Police warns Nigerians on new crime trends deviced by Internet fraudsters during this Coronavirus pandemic

The Nigeria Police Force has warned Nigerians on the new crime trends fraudsters have deviced to defraud people during this Coronavirus pandemic.

In a statement released, the police spokesperson, Frank Mba, said intelligence at the disposal of the Force indicates that fraud and cybercrime are expected to rise at this time owing to the lockdown emplaced by Government at all levels to contain the Covid-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic.

Mba said intelligence obtained from the INTERPOL Headquarters shows that scammers in Nigeria and other parts of the globe have begun to create and set up fraudulent websites, e-commerce platforms, fake social media accounts and emails claiming to sell and deliver (covid-19) medical products. He noted that in some cases, the fraudsters use the names of prominent companies involved in the production and distribution of these items. Victims are then asked to pay via bank transfer.

According to Mbah, the Inspector General of Police Mohammed Adamu, has enjoined all Nigerians to strictly adhere to the following security tips:

i. Avoid opening suspicious emails and clicking on links in unrecognized emails and attachments;
ii. Ensure proper back-up of online and offline files regularly and securely;
iii. Use strong passwords for securing your emails and social media handles;
iv. Keep your software updated, including antivirus software;
v. Manage your social media settings and review your privacy and security settings;
vi. You are advised to be wary of scammers who use names of prominent companies to create fraudulent websites, e-commerce platforms, social media accounts and emails claiming to sell and deliver medical products;
vii. You are advised to ignore and report calls purportedly emanating from a caller who pretends to be a relative currently being treated at hospital asking you to pay for the cost of the medical treatment by transferring money or by paying cash to fake public health representatives;
viii. Do not open letters or emails related to the pandemic from unknown persons who claim to be health authorities. Often times criminals access sensitive information,steal personal information and steal funds of victims by tricking them into connecting to a specific webpage and logging-in with their credentials;
ix. Be mindful of fake news, deliberate misinformation/disinformation and avoid circulating untrusted and unverified messages on your social media handles;
x. Educate your family, especially your children, about how to stay safe online and offline;
xi. If you become a victim, ensure prompt report to the police.

The statement added that the IGP has placed the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Interpol National Central Bureau (NCB), Abuja – Nigeria on red alert.

”The NCB which houses the cybercrime unit of the Force shall in the coming days and beyond work closely with other Interpol member states across the globe particularly to carry out intense monitoring of the internet highway in the most legitimate and ethical manner. This is to engender concerted efforts in cracking down on any individual or all forms of organized criminal gangs that may want to take advantage of the Covid-19 pandemic to perpetrate crimes.

The Force also enjoins commercial bank operators to strengthen their online banking security systems and report promptly any suspected case of fraud and other cybercrime related activities in their banks.

While reaffirming the determination of the Nigeria Police Force in providing support services to relevant agencies saddled with the task of curtailing and containing the COVID-19 pandemic, the IGP assures the public that the Force is unrelenting in clamping down on criminals who may want to take advantage of the situation to perpetrate criminal acts” the statement read

Go and do your last minute shopping now — Governor Sanwo-Olu advises Lagosians

Babajide Sanwo-Olu has advised residents of Lagos state to go out for their last minute shooping, before the restriction order begins from 11pm today, Monday March 30th.

The President of Nigeria, President Buhari had ordered the restriction of movement in Lagos, Abuja and Ogun stat as Nigeria continues to battle the covid-19 pandemic.

In a statement released by the Governor of Lagos state, he said the restriction order will help the state continue its fight against the virus.

The restriction, needless to say, will enhance our chances of defeating Coronavirus for the following reasons:

• Our medical workers will have room to move faster to cases that they need to handle;

• The disease will be contained faster as those infected will be easily identified and isolated as the treatment for the disease demands; and

• Social distancing will be enhanced and more people will be prevented from contracting the disease.

I would like to address the fears of those who have expressed some security concerns about your places of work and shops during this restriction. I have directed the police and other security agents to ensure that there are no security breaches. They will ensure that criminals do not take advantage of this important measure.

The private sector, our market leaders and traders are advised to use the window of opportunity that we have before 11pm to move out inflammable materials, such as petrol, kerosene and others, from their offices and shops, which they are free to open before the restriction begins. They are also advised to switch off all electrical and electronic appliances. These measures are to stave off fire incidents during the 14-day restriction.

Members of the public are advised to also use this window to make last-minute shopping in readiness for the restriction” the governor said in his statememt

DJ Abass fumes at the video of a policewoman holding a fan for actress Regina Daniels.

Nigerian Disc Jockey, Abass Tijani has lambasted billionaire wife and actress, Regina Daniels for using a Police Officer as her Domestic staff.

Recall few weeks ago, a video made the rounds on social media showing Regina Daniels on set with a uniformed police officer holding a fan to cool off actress (right there on set).

DJ Abass frowned at the action and called it one of the worst images he’d seen because a national security apparatus was reduced to mere ‘domestic servants’.

DJ Abass shared the video on his Instagram page and wrote ;

“This is one of the worst images I’ve seen – when the symbol of a nation’s security apparatus is reduced to THIS. Is this what the Nigeria Police Force has been reduced to – domestic servants – while in UNIFORM – and this appears to be more the norm than the exception – security for hire.

Does anyone realize what this does to the collective psyche of the people – and that of the police? How on earth can the citizenry see the police as an effective symbol of authority and fairness? Shouldn’t the position and integrity of the police be sacrosanct? Will this image inspire the next generation to want to be police officers? Or am i the one being too sensitive? … and look at the demeanour of the police officer?

I get a sense that she’s actually ashamed at this very moment!! Her face says it all. Why is mainstream media not addressing THIS? The lady in the video is Nollywood actress Regina Daniels – Nwoko.”

Suspect explains why he beheaded 4-year-old nephew

A young man who beheaded his nephew has given a reason for his action.

20-year-old Uchechi Eze beheaded his 4-year-old nephew, Chiemere Ezekiel with an axe in Ugamma village, Obosi in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Uchechi Eze blamed his deadly action on eing under the influence of a substance suspected to be Indian hemp.

The suspect said, “I didn’t know what my friend gave to me to eat and the thing turned me mad. I quickly ran away naked after killing the boy.

Confirming the incident, police spokesman, Haruna Mohammed said the suspect has been arrested.

Haruna said, “Uchechi Eze, aged 20, of Ezza Local Government Area of Ebonyi State but resides at Ugamma village, Obosi used an axe and allegedly beheaded his nephew, one Chiemere Ezekiel ‘m’ aged four years, of Ugamma village, Obosi in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

“The victim died on the spot and the suspect escaped to an unknown destination.

“Police operatives attached to Obosi Division visited the scene and took the victim to Unity Hospital Obosi where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor and his body was deposited at St. Edward Mortuary for autopsy while intensive manhunt of the suspect intensified.

“Following intelligence report, police detectives attached to Obosi division in conjunction with a vigilance group in the area arrested the culprit at a criminal hideout smoking substance suspected to be cannabis sativa.

“Uchechi voluntarily confessed to the crime and the exhibit he used in perpetrating the dastardly act was also recovered in his possession.”

Pastor who said coronavirus is just a ‘common flu’ is arrested for ‘uttering false information and spreading harmful propaganda’

A Ugandan pastor who downplayed the deadly coronavirus and tagged it just a ‘common flu’ has been arrested for ‘uttering false information and spreading harmful propaganda.’

The controversial cleric identified as Augustine Yiga of Revival Church Kawaala in Rubaga division in Kampala, in a video that made the rounds on social media, doubted the existence of Coronavirus in Uganda.

In his words ;

“Whether Government imprisons me, I don’t care, but I am speaking the truth, there is no Coronavirus in Uganda. They say Rwanda has over 40 cases, how comes no one has passed on? Do they want to say Rwanda has better treatment than China and Italy?”

 “The President said Uganda has 18 cases and that they’re responding to treatment, does he want to say Uganda has better treatment than Italy, China, and the US? Has Tanzania reported any deaths? Kenya reported one death but I think the victim died from other complications not Coronavirus. Coronavirus is this common flu and cold that Africans have grown up with.”

However, the Ugandan Police apprehended Pastor Yiga and while confirming the arrested on Sunday, said ;

The Pastor is suspected to have said, in a video recording branded by BBS TV, that the Covid-19 is not in Uganda. The video that went viral undermines government efforts in fighting the pandemic and exposes the public to dangers of laxity in observing the guidelines issued.”

“The action of Pastor Iga promotes the spread of the COVID 19 and can, therefore, be considered as a direct attack on the people of the Republic of Uganda
.

“Therefore, the suspect, who is currently detained at Old Kampala Police Station will be interviewed to establish the motive behind the dangerous utterances”.

Buhari approves special salary

Nigerian Head of States, President Buhari on Sunday evening, March 29th, 2020, addressed the nation as regards the Coronavirus pandemic cases across the country.

President Buhari's speech

Below is the full text of President Buhari’s speech on the fight against Coronavirus,

ADDRESS BY H.E. MUHAMMADU BUHARI, PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA ON THE COVID- 19 PANDEMIC SUNDAY 29TH MARCH, 2020

1. Fellow Nigerians,

2. From the first signs that Coronavirus, or COVID-19 was turning into an epidemic and was officially declared a world-wide emergency, the Federal Government started planning preventive, containment and curative measures in the event the disease hits Nigeria.

3. The whole instruments of government are now mobilized to confront what has now become both a health emergency and an economic crisis.

4. Nigeria, unfortunately, confirmed its first case on 27th February 2020. Since then, we have seen the number of confirmed cases rise slowly.

5. By the morning of March 29th, 2020, the total confirmed cases within Nigeria had risen to ninety-seven.

6. Regrettably, we also had our first fatality, a former employee of PPMC, who died on 23rd March 2020. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family in this very difficult time. We also pray for quick recovery for those infected and undergoing treatment.

7. As of today, COVID-19 has no cure. Scientists around the world are working very hard to develop a vaccine.

8. We are in touch with these institutions as they work towards a solution that will be certified by international and local medical authorities within the shortest possible time.

9. For now, the best and most efficient way to avoid getting infected is through regular hygienic and sanitary practices as well as social distancing.

10. As individuals, we remain the greatest weapon to fight this pandemic. By washing our hands regularly with clean water and soap, disinfecting frequently used surfaces and areas, coughing into a tissue or elbow and strictly adhering to infection prevention control measures in health facilities, we can contain this virus.

11. Since the outbreak was reported in China, our Government has been monitoring the situation closely and studying the various responses adopted by other countries.

12. Indeed, the Director General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) was one of ten global health leaders invited by the World Health Organisation to visit China and understudy their response approach. I am personally very proud of Dr Ihekweazu for doing this on behalf of all Nigerians.

13. Since his return, the NCDC has been implementing numerous strategies and programs in Nigeria to ensure that the adverse impact of this virus on our country is minimized. We ask all Nigerians to support the work the Federal Ministry of Health and NCDC are doing, led by the Presidential Task Force.

14. Although we have adopted strategies used globally, our implementation programs have been tailored to reflect our local realities.

15. In Nigeria, we are taking a two step approach.

16. First, to protect the lives of our fellow Nigerians and residents living here and second, to preserve the livelihoods of workers and business owners to ensure their families get through this very difficult time in dignity and with hope and peace of mind.

17. To date, we have introduced healthcare measures, border security, fiscal and monetary policies in our response. We shall continue to do so as the situation unfolds.

18. Some of these measures will surely cause major inconveniences to many citizens. But these are sacrifices we should all be willing and ready to make for the greater good of our country.

19. In Nigeria’s fight against COVID-19, there is no such thing as an overreaction or an under reaction. It is all about the right reaction by the right agencies and trained experts.

20. Accordingly, as a Government, we will continue to rely on guidance of our medical professionals and experts at the Ministry of Health, NCDC and other relevant agencies through this difficult time.

21. I therefore urge all citizens to adhere to their guidelines as they are released from time to time.

22. As we are all aware, Lagos and Abuja have the majority of confirmed cases in Nigeria. Our focus therefore remains to urgently and drastically contain these cases, and to support other states and regions in the best way we can.

23. This is why we provided an initial intervention of fifteen billion Naira (N15b) to support the national response as we fight to contain and control the spread.

24. We also created a Presidential Task Force (PTF) to develop a workable National Response Strategy that is being reviewed on a daily basis as the requirements change. This strategy takes international best practices but adopts them to suit our unique local circumstances.

25. Our goal is to ensure all States have the right support and manpower to respond immediately.

26. So far, in Lagos and Abuja, we have recruited hundreds of adhoc staff to man our call centers and support our tracing and testing efforts.

27. I also requested, through the Nigeria Governors Forum, for all State Governments to nominate Doctors and Nurses who will be trained by the NCDC and Lagos State Government on tactical and operational response to the virus in case it spreads to other states.

28. This training will also include medical representatives from our armed forces, paramilitary and security and intelligence agencies.

29. As a nation, our response must be guided, systematic and professional. There is a need for consistency across the nation. All inconsistencies in policy guidelines between Federal and State agencies will be eliminated.

30. As I mentioned earlier, as at this morning we had ninety-seven confirmed cases. Majority of these are in Lagos and Abuja. All the confirmed cases are getting the necessary medical care.

31. Our agencies are currently working hard to identify cases and people these patients have been in contact with.

32. The few confirmed cases outside Lagos and Abuja are linked to persons who have travelled from these centres.

33. We are therefore working to ensure such inter state and intercity movements are restricted to prevent further spread.

34. Based on the advice of the Federal Ministry of Health and the NCDC, I am directing the cessation of all movements in Lagos and the FCT for an initial period of 14 days with effect from 11pm on Monday, 30th March 2020. This restriction will also apply to Ogun State due to its close proximity to Lagos and the high traffic between the two States.

35. All citizens in these areas are to stay in their homes. Travel to or from other states should be postponed. All businesses and offices within these locations should be fully closed during this period.

36. The Governors of Lagos and Ogun States as well as the Minister of the FCT have been notified. Furthermore, heads of security and intelligence agencies have also been briefed.

37. We will use this containment period to identify, trace and isolate all individuals that have come into contact with confirmed cases. We will ensure the treatment of confirmed cases while restricting further spread to other States.

38. This order does not apply to hospitals and all related medical establishments as well as organizations in health care related manufacturing and distribution.

39. Furthermore, commercial establishments such as;
a. food processing, distribution and retail companies;
b. petroleum distribution and retail entities,
c. power generation, transmission and distribution companies; and
d. private security companies are also exempted.

40. Although these establishments are exempted, access will be restricted and monitored.

41. Workers in telecommunication companies, broadcasters, print and electronic media staff who can prove they are unable to work from home are also exempted.

42. All seaports in Lagos shall remain operational in accordance with the guidelines I issued earlier. Vehicles and drivers conveying essential cargoes from these Ports to other parts of the country will be screened thoroughly before departure by the Ports Health Authority.

43. Furthermore, all vehicles conveying food and other essential humanitarian items into these locations from other parts of the country will also be screened thoroughly before they are allowed to enter these restricted areas.

44. Accordingly, the Hon. Minister of Health is hereby directed to redeploy all Port Health Authority employees previously stationed in the Lagos and Abuja Airports to key roads that serve as entry and exit points to these restricted zones.

45. Movements of all passenger aircraft, both commercial and private jets, are hereby suspended. Special permits will be issued on a needs basis.

46. We are fully aware that such measures will cause much hardship and inconvenience to many citizens. But this is a matter of life and death, if we look at the dreadful daily toll of deaths in Italy, France and Spain.

47. However, we must all see this as our national and patriotic duty to control and contain the spread of this virus. I will therefore ask all of us affected by this order to put aside our personal comfort to safeguard ourselves and fellow human beings. This common enemy can only be controlled if we all come together and obey scientific and medical advice.

48. As we remain ready to enforce these measures, we should see this as our individual contribution in the war against COVID-19. Many other countries have taken far stricter measures in a bid to control the spread of the virus with positive results.

49. For residents of satellite and commuter towns and communities around Lagos and Abuja whose livelihoods will surely be affected by some of these restrictive measures, we shall deploy relief materials to ease their pains in the coming weeks.

50. Furthermore, although schools are closed, I have instructed the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development to work with State Governments in developing a strategy on how to sustain the school feeding program during this period without compromising our social distancing policies. The Minister will be contacting the affected States and agree on detailed next steps.

51. Furthermore, I have directed that a three month repayment moratorium for all TraderMoni, MarketMoni and FarmerMoni loans be implemented with immediate effect.

52. I have also directed that a similar moratorium be given to all Federal Government funded loans issued by the Bank of Industry, Bank of Agriculture and the Nigeria Export Import Bank.

53. For on-lending facilities using capital from international and multilateral development partners, I have directed our development financial institutions to engage these development partners and negotiate concessions to ease the pains of the borrowers.

54. For the most vulnerable in our society, I have directed that the conditional cash transfers for the next two months be paid immediately. Our Internally displaced persons will also receive two months of food rations in the coming weeks.

55. We also call on all Nigerians to take personal responsibility to support those who are vulnerable within their communities, helping them with whatever they may need.

56. As we all pray for the best possible outcome, we shall continue planning for all eventualities.

57. This is why I directed that all Federal Government Stadia, Pilgrims camps and other facilities be converted to isolation centers and makeshift hospitals.

58. My fellow Nigerians, as a Government, we will avail all necessary resources to support the response and recovery. We remain committed to do whatever it takes to confront COVID-19 in our country.

59. We are very grateful to see the emerging support of the private sector and individuals to the response as well as our development partners.

60. At this point, I will ask that all contributions and donations be coordinated and centralized to ensure efficient and impactful spending. The Presidential Task Force remains the central coordinating body on the COVID-19 response.

61. I want to assure you all that Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies with a role to play in the outbreak response are working hard to bring this virus under control.

62. Every nation in the world is challenged at this time. But we have seen countries where citizens have come together to reduce the spread of the virus.

63. I will therefore implore you again to strictly comply with the guidelines issued and also do your bit to support Government and the most vulnerable in your communities.

64. I will take this opportunity to thank all our public health workforce, health care workers, port health authorities and other essential staff on the frontlines of the response for their dedication and commitment. You are true heroes.

65. I thank you all for listening. May God continue to bless and protect us all.

President Muhammadu Buhari
29th March 2020.

“Only those whose time has come will die” – Pastor Adeboye reveals what God told him regarding Coronavirus outbreak (Video)

General overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor E.A. Adeboye has asked his congregation to not express any form of panic amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

According to him, he’s received a revelation from God that “only those whose time has come will die.” He gave his revelation while preaching to his members from the pulpit recently.

Adeboye stated that the stay-at-home order is a compulsive holiday and the people whose time have not come, have nothing to worry about.

In his words,

“So, I’ve told you, the whole world is going to be on compulsive holiday because God wants to prove that he is still in charge.

“It seems that is already coming to pass as you can see. Then you should believe also that you should relax. I’m talking to those of you that are my children.

“No evil is going to come near you at all.

“When I spoke to my Daddy about my pain concerning all the people who are dying and who may yet die, he assured me that only those whose time to die has come will die.

“Only those whose appointed time has come will die.

“And so, if your own appointed time hasn’t come, relax. Enjoy your holidays.”

Pastor arrested for holding church service despite ban on social gatherings in Abuja (Video)

General Overseer of Jesus Reign Family Church, Apo, Pastor U Uden, has been arrested by an enforcement team led by the Chairman of the Federal Capital Territory Authority, FCTA Ikharo Attah, for holding a Sunday service despite the ban on social/public gatherings.

The FCTA banned all public gatherings to curb the spread of Coronavirus in Abuja which has the second largest number of cases of Coronavirus after Lagos.

Speaking during the arrest, Attah told the erring pastor,

“You have violated and you have broken the rules. And you have done what is not appropriate. On Friday, we shut down some mosques at Kubwa. Today, we went around and said there should not be gatherings and we understand clearly well that you understand the holy books clearly well.

“When the Messiah Jesus was asked question by the Pharisees about Czar. He said to them to give what belongs to Czar to Czar. And when Apostle Paul wrote to the Church of God that abided in Rome in Romans 13:1-2, he told them to be subject to all authority for they are being ordained by God. I know you understand that very clearly.

“We said people should sit down and stay at home. And if they sit at home, whatever prayer they want to offer can be offered. That means that our prayers can be heard anywhere.”

“What you are doing is a contravention. It is a breach of the rule. And as a people under God living and enforcing the law for such a time as this, we will do what is appropriate. You will come with us for explanations,” he said

I fell in love with him too and became comfortable with his room but I made it clear that I will never pass the night at his place. You know how love can be blind, I found myself pass the night once and again and again then I asked him about his plans to move out, how much does he have at hand to rent a new place because I was secretly planning to support him with some money to add and he said he doesn’t have up to 30k. I was angry and so dissapointed at him.

Right now I’m thinking the whole thing over. I don’t think I can continue. Please advise me”

“You deserve the consequences of your actions if you refuse to stay home to go to church, bastard people” – Hushpuppi

In a rather contemptuous and exasperated tone, Nigerian big boy, Hushpuppi addressed fellow Nigerians who refuse to obey the directives giving by the government to stay at home and not go to social gatherings like Churches, mosques et al.

Taking to his Instagram page to share a piece of advice to Christians, the U.A.E based big boy said Christians should note that should they disobey orders and eventually contract the virus, their pastors would only pray for them which cannot cure the virus.

He says they shouldn’t blame the government in the advent that anything happens to them and should face the music for disobeying orders as they deserve it.

Hushpuppi, who’s known to be an archenemy of the Nigerian government, surprisingly praised them in his rant as he says they’ve been trying their best during these times.

He concludes by saying such people —bastard people— shouldn’t slide in his DMs to beg him for money.

He wrote on his page,

Those of you in Nigeria going to church today and refusing to stay home, just know if anything happen to you and your families, your pastors will only donate prayers which can’t cure corona obviousl. Don’t blame the government for anything, they are doing their best, it’s you who isn’t helping and you deserve the consequences of your actions!!! Also don’t come and beg money in my dm o bastard people

South African lady, Queen Bin Laden on the Twitter platform, took to her page to tell her fellow ladies that they should work on their personalities and attitude because men can survive with or without.

She’s received a lot of praises for her opinion, especially from men and has become a trending topic on the platform.

She wrote,

Men of today can cook,clean & do laundry.Basically they can do all chores & they can finance their lifestyle

So stop acting like these black men need you just because you have a big ass & juicy pussy

Work on ur personality & attitude because with or without you he will survive

These black men are so independent and they work very hard…as a matter of fact we need them more than they need us

Honestly most women just squirt and fart…that’s basically their contribution in a relationship

Sometimes she doesn’t love you,she loves how available you are to her financial needs

That is why most of the time when a man lose his job he also lose his woman

Nigerian mother makes her children have dress for service at home; collects offering (Video)

It was not the usual Sunday for most Nigerians Christians today as a lot of churches didn’t hold their regular Sunday service due to the directive given by the government against the spread of Corona Virus.

However, members of some churches were able to connect to sermons via their Church’s online platforms or radio, podcasts et al. The only thing is there wouldn’t have been the usual vibe of the sonorous choristers and the joyful noise made by instrumentalists during praise and worship.

As it is, a lot of Christians had no choice but stay at home and worship from their living rooms or wherever they deemed fit. But in the case of this Nigerian mother, she made good sure that her and her household went on about their Sunday service like business as usual.

One of her children, a legal practitioner took to her Twitter page to share how her mother made each of her children dress up for Sunday service and in course of the session, even collected offerings from them.

The video shows a number of people in what looks like a living room and what’s even surprising, is they looked like they were practicing social distancing, during the service.

The lady @Rach_eye on Twitter shared the video, writing,

My mum made us dress up for church today, by 8am everyone was in the sitting room, there was even offering she said she will drop the offering at the alter when everything is over talk about mum of the year
