Lagos State Governor-elect, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has revealed his plans for the first 100 days when he resumes as governor.
During a recent interaction with select journalists in Lagos, Sanwo-Olu opened up about his plans for Lagosians and what he intends to achieve in his first 100 days in office.
Read excerpts by Temidayo Akinsuyi below ;
What do you intend to achieve in office in your first 100 days?
We will be running a marathon as if we are running sprint because of the various things that we have to do. We are hoping that in our first 100 days, we will have a working government. This means that all of our cabinet and the major appointments that we need to have, we will have them running very quickly. We should begin to see huge solutions in our traffic management scheme. In infrastructures, we are already in the rainy season; so even if we want to do some extensions and some laybys, there is a limit to what can you do because once it’s raining, you can’t pour concrete. Even when you pour concrete, sun has to come for it to dry to open up that lay-by.
Some of those issues will come up but in terms of identifying those corridors that we need traffic improvement, we have already done all of that. In terms of places that we need to improve and increase waste management solutions, we would have done all that. In the first three months, we would have roll out loads of waste management banks, where like I mentioned during my campaigns, sorting has to start from your kitchen which is where we are going to be looking for those colours of bags and then we bring them out we have a work in progress relationship with the PSP.
I imagine we would have made some capital expense in terms of procurement of new compactor trucks and other equipment but that will take a while before it comes in but we would have made those commitments within those period as well. Like I also said on the solution to Apapa gridlock, I believe that we would have solved it but the sustenance of it will be an issue if we are not careful. They will keep coming then and now but on a sustainable basis, it’s going to cost us money to put people there. Those are things that we need to do. We will also begin to work around the civil service within that period because we understand that all of these things we are talking about, we need professionals in the civil service to work with. So, in terms of capacity development and skill gaps, we need to quickly identify where they are in the public service so that we can put right people in the right places. In the areas of health and education, we would have rolled out a more detailed plan on what we need to do to ensure that growth in our education system is improved. For early education, a strategy would have been crafted out to show us what we need to do as soon as the kids are coming back to school in September 2019. On the health side, the collaboration that we need to have with the private sector to ensure that health is accessible will be given priority.
Affordability of it might still be a challenge in terms of identifying the vulnerable people but accessibility is something that we need to quickly deal with. On the issue of infrastructure, we would have developed plans on what new roads we need to build. At that time, you also need to be planning for next year’s budget. All these things we need to begin to implement very quickly. On the power sector, I imagine that in our 100 days in office, we would have a clear-cut policy with all the Discos and all the Gencos on how we must ensure that Lagos gets powered up very, very quickly.
Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu is set to resume office as the governor of Lagos State from 29 May, 2019.
Theresa May resigns as UK Prime minister – the PM has come under increased pressure from her own party over her failed Brexit plans.
The Prime Minister has announced that she is to leave her position within weeks. Theresa May met with the chair of the influential 1922 committee – a group of MPs who represent the Conservative Party’s backbenchers – on Friday morning where she announced the timetable for her departure.
Among rising tensions between the PM and many of her party, she confirmed she will resign as Conservative Party leader on June 7 so a successor can be chosen. The start of the official race for the next leader of the Conservative party and Prime Minister will start in the week after.
The Mirror reports that Theresa May spent Thursday night at her constituency home with her husband after plans to bring her Brexit plan to the House of Commons hit a brick wall.
She met with Sir Graham Brady, the chair of the 1922 committee, this morning before making a statement from Downing Street.

Failed Brexit plans is the major reason Theresa May resigns. The last straw for Cabinet ministers appears to have been the latest version of May’s Brexit plan, which she unveiled on Tuesday. In an attempt to win over opposition lawmakers, May offered the House of Commons the chance to vote on a second referendum — a concession that was bitterly opposed by some senior members of her government.
Her fate was sealed by the leadership of the 1922 Committee — which represents the interests of rank-and-file lawmakers in May’s Conservative Party — who threatened to change party rules to allow a vote of no-confidence. May survived an earlier confidence vote in December last year, and under current rules was immune to challenge for another year.
The announcement that Theresa May resigns will set off a frantic race to succeed her. One leading candidate is Boris Johnson, the buffoonish but wily former Foreign Secretary who commands significant support among grassroots members of the party.

STAYING HEALTHY AND FIT IN THIS FASTING SEASON (Dr Chinasa Amadi, Medical Doctor, Certified weight loss coach and Nutritionist and Lifestyle Medicine Doctor)
To most people Fasting and Fitness or even staying healthy should not be used in the same sentence. But there is no better time to maintain a healthy lifestyle like during fasting.
It can be incredibly hard, but a little positive mental attitude goes a long way because most of the battle is in the mind. I am glad to be sharing these tips on behalf of TECNO Mobile Nigeria to help you through your period of fasting.
Lets start this way:
Go for a medical check-up. Yes, I said it! it is important that you visit your doctor during this time, especially if you want to exercise during your fasting period.
The important meal before you start your fast! The pre-dawn meal helps your body stay hydrated and fuelled up on energy and nutrients until your next meal after you conclude your fast. It also helps you avoid overeating when you break your fast at sunset.
Your pre-fast meal should be a balanced diet. Focus on complex carbohydrates like Beans, Oats, Corn, sweet potatoes, wheat and Protein rich food like eggs, fish, meat, milk e.t.c
Add in Fruits and Vegetables at all your meals. Fruits and vegetables are a great snack and a healthy alternative to pastries and sweets usually consumed during fasting periods. Some fruits and vegetables naturally contain high water content, especially cucumbers, golden melon, watermelons, pawpaw and oranges. Eating these after fasting hours can help keep you hydrated.
Plan your exercise routine. Keep your workouts short, best if you do total body exercises like skipping, running, or aerobic workout. As you get more comfortable, you may gradually increase your exercise time. You may exercise just before you break your fast to avoid dehydration and so it coincides as your post workout meal. But if you can’t work out after breaking your fast, allow at least 2-3 hours after eating to begin your exercise routine, to give your body enough time to digest food properly.
Break your fast slowly! While it is tempting to overindulge once you break your fast after a day of food deprivation, remember that you should take it slow.
First take some water and then wait before starting your main meal. You can add in 2 or 3 dates here. Dates are a great source of energy for the body, helping it to secrete digestive enzymes in preparation for the upcoming meal. Afterwards, You may eat the main meal. Remember as stated above…it should be a balanced meal.
Water! Water! Water! Drink at least 2/3 litres of water a day. Beware of consuming a lot of popular sugary drinks such as Kunun, Tamarind, Fura and Zobo. It is best to avoid caffeinated drinks such as strong tea, coffee and colas, as they may make you dehydrated. Water is the best option!
Rest! This is one overlooked part of fasting, but it is very important. Rest is part of the process. Be intentional with getting a good night sleep.
This is an example of a 4-day Fasting healthy Meal and Fitness plan:
Before the fast
Breaking of fast
WORKOUT
DAY 1
Pap + Moimoi + Watermelon
Okro soup + Eba + 1 cucumber
20 mins jogging
DAY 2
A bowl of oats + mangoes
Beans porridge + fish with steamed greens
15 mins Interval training
DAY 3
Boiled sweet potatoes and vegetable sauce with fish
Moimoi and vegetable salad + watermelon
20 mins Aerobic exercises
DAY 4
Boiled plantain and vegetable egg sauce + 1 apple
Goat meat pepper soup and Eko + Golden Melon
Skipping (15 minutes)
It is okay to struggle. It isn’t meant to be easy and as with most things in life, the harder the struggle, the greater the reward. But it is possible and you can achieve this. Take this one step at a time. Overall, we want you to enjoy the process to a healthier you. Look at it as a personal challenge and one that brings great reward.

The Nigerian Senate, on Thursday May 23rd, 2019 passed the bill that Yabatech be upgraded to the City University of Technology (Est, etc) Yaba Bill, 2018 for second reading.
Senator Gbenga Ashafa (APC-Lagos) moved the motion at the plenary presided over by Senate President, Bukola Saraki in Abuja. The bill was sought to transform the Yaba College Technology (YabaTech) in Lagos State to the City University of Technology Yaba, NAN reported.
Leading the debate, Ashafa, who represents Lagos east senatorial district, argued that if the bill is considered, it would enhance the capability of the institution to achieve its objectives.
“Nigeria’s steady march towards education for all in the shortest possible time has taken a giant leap with the introduction of this bill.
“I am personally excited by the prospect of transforming this polytechnic to a university of technology because it will motivate both students and academic staff. It will also upgrade the facilities and enhance it capability to achieve its objectives.
Similarly, the new university of technology will encourage the advancement of learning and hold out to all persons without distinction of race, creed or political conviction the opportunity of acquiring a higher and liberal education,” he said.
Citing instances, the lawmaker noted that in similar circumstances in the United Kingdom, most of the polytechnics were upgraded to universities.
”If Nigeria has plan to become one of the world’s leading economies as currently being pursued by government, we must be ready to adjust and position our educational institutions so that its products are geared for the technological challenges inherent in such projections,” he said.
When the motion was put on a voice vote, it was unanimously adopted by the legislators. Saraki, therefore, referred the bill to Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND for further legislative action and report back within a week.
Also, the Senate also passed a Bill for the Establishment of Federal Polytechnic Iwerekun, Ibeju-Lekki Lagos, sponsored by Ashafa for second reading.
