Nigerian comedian, Oghenekowhoyan Onaibe Desmond, popularly known as Destalker, has disclosed that he has made several attempts at suicide.

He revealed that he struggled with depression following his graduation from university and that his inability to find employment eventually led him to become an okada rider.

In a recent session of the Afrobeats Podcast, Destalker and UK-based presenter Adesope Olajide discussed his life story.

The stand-up comic claimed that his family’s problems and his failure to get a well-paying job or advance in his profession pushed him to despair.

He went on to say that although he had previously taken the decision to never work for anybody again, there were many obstacles in his way and he had difficulties.

Destalker also acknowledged that his colleague Ajebo helped him get his first significant break in the comedy business.

He said; “I graduated with a degree in Public Administration but couldn’t get a job. So I started doing okada [commercial motorcyclist]. But the truth is, I already had it on my mind that I don’t want to work for anybody. You must have a blueprint of what you want to become even though the country has its own blueprint waiting for you.

I was struggling. It wasn’t easy. There were a lot of distractions and it got to a point where I was suicidal. I attempted suicide three times. I think nobody has heard this part of me.

That was when I realised that even I can’t take my life. I now believed that when you’re suicidal, your miracle is close. The devil doesn’t just want you to attain it. The closer you are to your destiny, the difficult the challenges. That was my story.”

Nigerian stand-up comedian, Oghenekowhoyan Onaibe Desmond, popularly known as Destalker, has revealed his senior colleague FunnyBone’s remarks on his career.

Destalker stated that FunnyBone had predicted that he wouldn’t survive more than six months in the comedy business.

Speaking as a guest on the most recent Afrobeats Podcast episode, which is hosted by Adesope Olajide, he revealed this startling revelation.

He claims that FunnyBone forecasted that he would disappear in less than a year following his first-ever win for Best Comedian of the Year.

Destalker said that he put his career’s success in God’s hands because he was ignorant of his own overreaction when he made that remark.

He continued by saying that he received the same Best Comedian award four times after devoting his comic career to God.

Destalker said; “After I won my first Best Comedian of the Year award, my colleagues started getting jealous of me. FunnyBone said, ‘What does he feel like? Let’s give him 6 months.’ He didn’t know I was sitting close to him when he said it loud.

He said, ‘Abeg! Six months he will go down.’ Listen, you cannot give time for what God has timed. FunnyBone continued, ‘Let’s give him time, highest one year. No be so Akpororo do? Where is Akpororo today?’ I said, ‘Okay, let’s see if it’s God’s time or man’s time.’ I won the same award for four consecutive years.”

Renowned Fuji singer, Remi Aluko has asserted that the Afrobeats icon, Wizkid improved and introduced a fresh look to the Nigerian music scene.

He clarified that the 33-year-old Grammy winner improved replay value and altered the music economy of the business.

Speaking in a talk on Echo Room, Aluko claimed that prior to Wizkid entering the music business, Nigerian songs were typically long, but he altered that by releasing shorter songs.

Big Brother Naija star and businesswoman, Ka3na, has opened up about some of the challenges she faced in March 2024.

The mother of one revealed that her daughter fell ill and had to be hospitalized for treatment. She said the most challenging part was being in the hospital alone with her daughter, as a single mother who recently lost her husband.

She acknowledged that single motherhood is not easy and celebrated other women in similar situations as she marked International Women’s Day today, March 8.

Sharing a video of her daughter lying in bed in hospital, she wrote,

“March brought with it a plethora of temptations, but God stood by our side. The most challenging part was being in the hospital alone with my baby… single motherhood is a test even for the strongest. A Nigerian man has rebuked Tochi Wigwe, the eldest daughter of the late Access Bank CEO, Herbert Wigwe, for not standing to greet Vice President Kashim Shettima.

Tunde Akinsanmi, former member of the popular R&B group, Styl-Plus, has asked Nigerian media to support musical genres other than Afrobeats.

Since Afobeats is now the sound that’s trending both locally and globally, he said TV and radio stations shouldn’t let other genres die.

In a recent interview, Tunde also urged event planners to support pioneering artists who paved the way rather than only concentrating on popular performers.

He said;

“I will like to listen to radio and know that there are other genres of music, and not just afrobeats. They should not allow other genres of music to die. I have been all over the world and I have seen how music is streamed on TV and radio.

They play both new and old songs. Show promoters should not just focus on people that are reigning now. They should also patronise people who paved the way. The more they are patronised, the longer their works and careers are going to last.”

Anita had shared a clip of herself walking in a hallway on her Instagram page but the video had spite a lot of netizens who visited her page to insult her.

While some appeared to have a problem with the way she walked others asked why her stomach looked flat despite calling the singer out for impregnating her last year.

Anita who seemed to have had enough of their name-calling, began responding to them one after the other, shading the singer in the process.

Nollywood actress, Queeneth Agbor, has declared she can only give her money to a man who has made an investment in her.

In a recent interview with The Punch, she made this claim while reiterating that she had nothing against women giving guys money.

Queeneth says it won’t be an issue to spend her money lavishly on him if she finds such a loving and considerate man.

She said;

“I don’t know about other women, but as for me, I can only spend money on a man that has invested in me and has impacted my life. In that case, spending on him means nothing. Outside of that, I cannot spend money on a man who has not invested in me.”

A Nigerian businessman has narrated how a cement seller in the North refunded his money after the price of cement crashed hours after he paid.

Recounting the event, the man said he bought a bag of cement at a specific rate from a cement seller but he was amazed when the cement seller called him that the price of the cement has reduced at market price.

According to him, the cement seller informed him that he will refund the extra amount on each bag he had purchased earlier that day.

The man identifies as @ahmadkargi_jr tweeted on X,

“Today I bought a Cement at a rate of ₦8,200/bag, now the seller called and said the price has been reduced to ₦7,800 so he will refund ₦400 for each bag. If not in the NORTH where could this happen in Nigeria.”

He also added that which other part in Nigeria can such a generosity happen especially with the manner at which traders hike price endlessly.
