The final conversation between a 100 level Chemical Engineering student of the University of Port Harcourt, Hilkmat Gbadamosi and a friend before she took her own life has surfaced online.
In the chat, Hilkmat was advised by her friend to stay away from a particular guy – probably her boyfriend – before she was later invited for a fellowship which she said she would have loved to attend if she would be alive the next day.
According to reports, Hilkmat had been battling a medical condition since birth and the resulting pain sent her into depression. Before her death, she was complaining that the pain has refused to go away although she clearly did not specify the cause of the pain.
However, other sources said she committed suicide because her boyfriend left her. Neighbour said she might have died since Saturday as they did not see her on Sunday and on Monday afternoon.
Her body has been deposited to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital.

There was commotion among residents of a community in Ondo state after the capture of two suspected ritualists.
The two suspects are alleged to be among those responsible for the killing of elderly women in the Akoko area of the state and removing their breasts and other sensitive organs including private parts.
According to reports, they were apprehended on Tuesday by some youths at Arigidi Akoko following an attempt to kill another woman in the town where an 80-year-old grandmother was gruesomely murdered last week.

Members of a criminal gang recently arrested by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad attached to the Lagos State Police Command, have recounted how they lured two Bureau de change operators identified as Yakubu Musa and Hassan Umoru, to an uncompleted building in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State, collected their N1.6 million, killed them and then threw their bodies into a septic tank on March 14th.
According to a statement from the state police command the duo were declared missing by their colleagues after they failed to return to their office. The matter was reported to the police and during investigations, three suspects – Oluwatosin Olarewaju, Mayowa Olawuni and Babatunde Idris, were arrested in connection with the crime.
During interrogation, Olanrewaju said himself and their leader identified as Pencil, who is currently at large, planned the deal.
“Our leader, Pencil, and I planned the deal. Pencil said I should convince the operators to come that an Alhaja wanted to buy $10,000. The operators came on a motorcycle and called us from Trailer Park bus stop, Odogunyan. Pencil asked another motorcycle rider to take the operators to a boys’ quarters around Odogunyan. By the time I joined them at the boys’ quarters, I met them lying down with their hands bound. Pencil asked me to lie on the floor as well to make it look like I did not have a hand in the plan.
“Pencil told them that the Alhaja they came to meet owed him $10,000 and that his gang came to collect the money. They beat up the operators and I also received my fair share of the beating to make it look real. The operators begged Pencil to stop beating them; that they would give him money for their freedom. Pencil instructed them to transfer the money into an account. But when he called to know if the money had been paid, the account holder said no.” he said
Olanrewaju said Pencil changed the game plan and killed the operators to cover up.
“At the point that Pencil changed the plan, he threatened to kill me alongside the operators if he did not receive an alert on the payment. He said he suspected I was pulling pranks by asking the person at the other end not to reveal that he had received the alert. One of the operators then suggested that another account should be given to him to pay into. That was when I contacted a nurse who treated me when I was sick. The BDC operators paid in N1.6m to that account. By 8pm same day, Pencil and the gang members tore the operators’ clothes and used them to cover their mouths. When I asked him why he was doing that, he asked if I wanted to teach him his job. He took one of the operators to the backyard and later sent for the second one. He shot both of them dead and said that was the only way to cover our tracks since the operators already knew me.
“Afterwards, we contacted the nurse and she withdrew N500,000 initially. She later gave us another N500,000 and a balance of N470,000. I got N340,000 as my share of the deal.” he said
The police says they are on the trail of the leader and that once he is apprehended, they will all be charged to court.

Social media app, Instagram has announced plans to test-run hiding the “like” counts this week as a way to make “a less pressurized environment” on the app.
According to the head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, “we want people to worry a little bit less about how many likes they’re getting on Instagram and spend a bit more time connecting with the people that they care about,” he said during the keynote of F8, Facebook’s annual software developer conference in San Jose, California.
Under the test, the number of people who liked a post will no longer be shown. Users will be able to look at who liked their own post, but they won’t be able to see how many likes someone else’s post got unless they manually count them. A post’s creator will be able to see their own like counts if they choose to do so, Mosseri said.
“We don’t want Instagram to feel like a competition. What we aspire to do is lead the fight against online bullying,” Mosseri said.
The hidden like count test announcement comes as Instagram expands its efforts to combat online bullying, a problem that plagues many of the app’s younger users. Mosseri also spoke about other efforts the service is considering to combat bullying, such a feature that would nudge users if they are about to post an aggressive comment.
Members of the infamous kidnapping syndicate that specialize in abducting travelers along major expressways in Rivers state, have given their reasons as to why they carry out such criminal activities.
In recent times, there’s been reports of travelers being abducted along major roads in Rivers state – one of such victims of such abductions, Mr Happy, who was kidnapped alongside nine other passengers in a commercial bus on Thursday, April 25th while traveling from Warri to Rivers state, has told newsmen what the kidnappers told them whilst in their hideout.
According to Mr Happy, the kidnappers informed them that they resorted to kidnapping because the Federal government and state governments have stopped their amnesty programme.
The programme which was introduced by late President Umar Musa Yar’Adua, ensured that militants who surrendered their arms are placed on a monthly stipend of N65,000. The militants however complained that this has been stopped and in other to survive and make ends meet, they resorted to the criminal act of kidnapping.
“They came out of the bush and intercepted the bus. They were fully armed and directed every one of us into the bush and kept us there. While they were beating us, they said they kidnapped us because the federal and state government had stopped giving them the amnesty stipends that they received monthly. They said that is why they are kidnapping people and they said they would continue to kidnap people.” Mr Happy said
Mr Happy added that the kidnappers stated that no security agent in Nigeria can stop them from kidnapping.

The Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Yusuf Bichi, has said that most politicians, particularly state governors, do not trust security officials and would rather go to spiritualists and native doctors otherwise known as Babalawos for protection.
Bichi said this when he spoke at the retreat for incoming governors organised by the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) that held in Abuja on Monday April 29th.
“I joke with politicians that you people trust the marabouts and babalawos more. Once someone tells you nothing will happen to your seat and it happens, you just trust that person in all crisis.” he said
He said there was no lack of Intellegence in the country but rather a lack of will to combat the security challenges.

Some days back, the Ooni of Ife, who spoke at his Ile-Oodua palace in Ile-Ife while receiving the Lagos State president of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Solomon Ogbonna, revealed that the historical ties between the Igbos and Yorubas makes them inseparable members of the same family.
He said in part at the meeting,

In what can be considered as a clear example of local solutions, parents in Zimbabwe who cannot afford school fees have been encouraged to offer livestock such as goats or sheep as payment.
The country’s education minister, Lazarus Dokora told the pro-government Sunday Mail newspaper that schools will have to show flexibility when it comes to demanding tuition fees from parents, and that they should accept not only livestock, but also services and skills.
“If there is a builder in the community, he/she must be given that opportunity to work as a form of payment of tuition fees,” the paper quoted him as saying.
A ministry official clarified Dr Dokora’s comments,
“Parents of the concerned children can pay the fees using livestock. That is mostly for rural areas, but parents in towns and cities can pay through other means; for instance, doing certain work for the school.”
The decision follows a move last week where Zimbabwe allowed people to use their livestock, such as goats, cows and sheep, to back bank loans.
Under legislation introduced in parliament this week, borrowers would be allowed to register “movable” assets, including motor vehicles and machinery, as collateral, BBC writes.

Brigham Young University, student Matt Easton gave an epic speech at his college’s graduation ceremony as he announced publicly for the first time that he is gay.
In his speech, Easton, the Valedictorian for the College of Family, Home, and Social Sciences at BYU, described that he was celebrating “a few of his [sic] own personal victories” during his time at the university.
The 24-year-old political science major included funny memories like getting hit by a deer while walking to class his freshman year and more serious moments like finding out his mother has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and how it led him to realize “how to cherish and who to cherish.”
He then described moments where he struggled with his own identity before announcing to the crowd,
“I stand before my family, friends and graduating class today to say that I am proud to be a gay son of God.”
Easton shared excerpts from his speech on Twitter, thanking those who supported him and adding,
“I feel so so lucky to have had a chance to share some of my story with so many people.”
He also revealed that during his time at the school, he didn’t focus on some factors of his life as much as others.
“BYU has a very strict honor code, a lot of rules about homosexuality and being gay, so during my time at BYU my focus was almost entirely on my studies. I’m like, ‘I want to do well in school, I want to focus on my career and when the time is right, I’ll work on other aspects of myself.'”
He felt his speech was an opportunity for him to “focus on being more authentic. I thought I have this platform, I have this opportunity, and for me, this is what I want to do I want to finish my time and start this new chapter being as true to myself as I could,” he said.

Serious drama ensued at the Anglican Diocese of Mt Kenya South St. James Cathedral in Kiambu town, Kenya, on Saturday, when an estranged wife stormed the church with her family and friends, then tried to stop a wedding of her husband to another woman.
According to local media, the groom, though separated from his wife, remains married to her, given their divorce case is yet to be ruled upon by the court.

Ondo State Police command has arrested 45- year-old Deji Adenuga said to have burnt his wife and eight other family members to death in Okitipupa
The suspect was paraded to reporters by Commissioner of Police, Mr Undie Adie at the command’s headquarters in Akure on Tuesday.
Adenuga confessed to the crime, saying he burnt the house where the parents of his wife lived and killed eight persons.
The suspect was one of the ex -convicts that escaped from Olokuta Prison after a jail break in 2013,The Nation reports.
According to him, he had in 2003 killed his first wife after she allegedly went away with N450, 000 belonging to him.
On why he took the decision to burn the family of his wife to death, he said his wife aborted his four- month pregnancy and took away some of his personal belongings to her parent’s house.
The arrested arsonist hails from Erinje in Okitipupa Local Government Area of the state.
He said he was ready to face the consequences of his action.
His words:
“I have no regret killing them because when they did their own nobody punished them.
“I took the decision to set their house ablaze when it became clear that my wife had moved to her parent’s house with some of my belongings.“We had little altercations at home and she moved out of the house.
“I was the one paying their house rent and I was also responsible for their day-to -day living. I am a palm wine tapper and I always live up to expectation both at home and at my in-law’s house.“My wife’s parent always asked for money from me and food stuffs and I always oblige”.
Adenuga said he waited for months thinking that the family will rescind their decision but to no avail.
According to him:
“I also reported the matter to the Police but they did not take any action. I therefore decided to set their house ablaze for my belongings in their custody to be destroyed but they were also burnt.
Adie, who assured that the suspect would be charged to court, said he was arrested in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State where he relocated to after committing the heinous crime.
The police chief said his command would also investigate the case of murder that earlier led to his imprisonment and the magic he used to escape from the prison custody.

An Uber driver who returned a lady’s N25,000 and her International passport that had an American Visa in it has called out the owner, after he returned her purse that contained these valuables and got N500 as a reward.
According to the driver, after the woman forgot the purse in his car, he drove back to her house to return her valuables to her, only for him to be tipped with N500.
Angered by this, he took to twitter to share the photo, captioning it; ‘Today a lady forgot her purse in my car, there was N25,000 and an international passport that had an American visa in it. I drove back to her house to return it and she gave me a N500 tip. Some people are just so ungrateful.’

An Uber driver stripped down to his boxers in protest at the General Aviation Terminal, GAT, of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, after being detained and fined by an airport tow truck driver who wanted to seize his car.
The man was not prepared to pay the fine to FAAN when he was accosted by the tow truck driver and this led to an argument which saw the Uber driver pull off his shirt and trousers.
