Kizz Daniel tells fans

Court rejects suit seeking registration of lesbian group in Nigeria

Justice Nnamdi Dimgba of a Federal High Court in Abuja, has dismissed a suit challenging non-registration of a same sex group by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), for lacking in merit.

The plaintiff, Pamela Adie, in the court papers, said that sometime in October 2017, she founded the “Lesbian Equality and Empowerment Initiatives” whose objective was primarily to advocate for the rights of same sex sexual orientation people but that her quest to register the association at the CAC, through her counsel, Fajenyo Kayode, was declined. She then filed a motion challenging the decision of the commission to decline the registration of the association.

In his judgment which was delivered last Friday November 16th, Justice Dimgba held that the decision of CAC refusing to register the group was in compliance with 30 (1) (c) of the Companies And Allied Matters Act (CAMA) Cap C20 Laws of Federation of Nigeria 2004.

“It is my view that where either the proposed name of the company or its aims and objectives are caught by the provisions of Section 30 (1) (c) of CAMA, the respondent is duly empowered to reject such an application for reservation of name or registration as it has done in this case.

“Section 30 (1) (c) of CAMA reads: “No company shall be registered under this Act by a name which- (c) in the opinion of the Commission is capable of being misleading as to the nature or extent of its activities or is undesirable, offensive or otherwise contrary to public policy.” the judge said

Recall that in January 2014, the Anti-Gay law which proffers 14-year jail term for anyone caught in any act of same sex, was assented to by former president Goodluck Jonathan.

Enriching lives through youth development – Dr. Chibundu Aku

This year, Nigeria’s National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) estimated the population of the country to be about 184 million.

This huge figure makes Nigeria the country with the largest population on the African continent and the world’s seventh most populous country. Figures released by the NBS last year put the country’s youth unemployment rate at 13.41 percent.

This year’s figures are likely to have grown and will continue to grow if drastic measures are not taken to arrest the trend.

The soaring rate of youth unemployment, expectedly, is a source of concern for government and every Nigerian. Unemployment is a major cause of insecurity in addition to a plethora of other societal challenges, some of which have debilitating consequences.

The prevalent view is that government, all by itself, cannot successfully address the challenge of youth employment, especially now that the economic climate is inclement. Government and experts have frequently called on corporate bodies to assist the government by developing initiatives targeted at making the country’s young people gainfully employed and useful to the society.

The call has been answered by some corporate bodies through development of various youth empowerment programmes as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility interventions. These programmes have attracted the attention and recognition of both the government and various professional bodies.

One of such recognition platforms is the just concluded BrandPower Golden Icons Awards, which seeks to recognize and celebrate brands that have contributed to the development of the country. At the awards ceremony, which held in Lagos on 9 November, MultiChoice emerged winner of the Youth Empowerment through Access to Information Award.

On reflection, I realized that not many corporate bodies in the country see entertainment as a means of youth empowerment. MultiChoice Nigeria, however, stands out as one. Through its DStv and GOtv platforms, MultiChoice has positioned itself an authentic voice and credible platform of expression for young Nigerians as well as one that offers them a way out of the grip of socio-economic challenges.

In his keynote address at the ceremony, entitled “Winning strategies for customer winning brands of the future”, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), MultiChoice Nigeria, Mr. John Ugbe, listed four crucial conditions for building a winning brand. These, he said, are consistency, commitment, authenticity and trust.

He further explained that for over two decades, MultiChoice Nigeria has provided its customers with quality local content that has resonated across the continent. And in a brief chat with Ugbe after his address, I discovered that in 2014 alone, MultiChoice Nigeria contributed N34 billion to the country’s GDP.

In the area of youth employment, MultiChoice through its GOtv Sabimen scheme, which provides participants with training in the rudiments of service activation, response to customer enquiries and resolution of issues on GOtv, has empowered over 5,000 young Nigerians and more than 10,000 dealers, retailers, installers and sales agents.

In the area of education, MultiChoice has furnished schools across the country with over 400 MultiChoice Resource Centers (MRCs). The centers are designed to grant beneficiary public schools access to the special MultiChoice Education Bouquet with the aim of integrating the programmes into the school curriculum to further enhance the teaching and learning processes in the classrooms.

Nollywood continues to feel the positive impact of MultiChoice. With the eight outstanding channels of Africa Magic, thousands of young Nigerians have been directly and indirectly employed to be in front of or behind the camera in many Africa Magic productions such as Tinsel, The Johnsons and Jara.

The Youth Empowerment through Access to Information award, which MultiChoice Nigeria won, is indeed a true attestation to several youth empowerment schemes the organization has initiated and an uncomplicated indication of that MultiChoice is committed to enriching the lives of Nigerian youth.

“Suddenly an officer by name Atiku Abubakar who heard our argument summoned the officers to come along with me to his office.

“He was the head of the command at the time. After listening to both sides, Atiku demanded for the duty charge, dipped his hand into his pocket and paid the duty and handed me the receipt smiling and saying that ‘I will pay him back’.

Gambian referee apologizes to Nigeria after match against South Africa

Gambian referee apologizes

Gambian referee who officiated the AFCON 2019 qualifying match between South Africa and Nigeria on Saturday, has apologized for the costly mistakes made by officials during the game.

The Gambian football referee identified as Bakary Papa Gassama apologised to the Nigerian team after wrongly denying them two goals due to wrong offside calls, according to a report by OwnGoalNigeria.

Gambian referee apologizes

Ahmed Musa put through Kelechi Iheanacho who tapped home believing he has given Nigeria the lead but Musa who supplied the pass was judged by the assistant referee as been in an offside position, something which turned out to be wrong after video replays.

In the second half with less than five minutes to go, Musa was once again at the receiving end of another poor referee decision as he was once again flagged offside incorrectly after slotting home what could have given Nigeria all three points.

The game ended 1-1 with Nigeria sealing her passage to next year Africa Cup of Nations but officials of the Nigeria Football Federation ( NFF) still expressed their unhappiness to Gassama over the poor decision which cost Nigeria a win.

Gassama admitted the error and even went a step further by sending his apologies to Musa over the incident although he admitted that such errors are sometimes unavoidable particularly due to the non-availability of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR)

Club DNA reacts after Wizkid’s bouncer was matcheted by one of their staff

Club DNA refutes reports

Earlier today, reports circulated that Wizkid’s personal bodyguard, Roy was matcheted in Club DNA over the debt the singer is owing the club.

The Club has now come out to say that, Roy wasn’t matcheted because his boss, Wizkid is owing the club, that the fight happened when both staffs were talking to a senior staff and both started an argument and rapidly rose to a fight.

As against the initial report that linked Wizkid’s debt to the fight between the bouncer and the other staff, the club has released a statement to deny the report.

Read below:

To whom it may concern,

It has been brought to our notice that news circulating stating Wizkid’s bouncer (Roy) was attacked at CLUB DNA and related to Wizkid’s outstanding bills at the club.

We would like to make clarification that it was a situation of indiscipline on both side . Roy works at Club dna as the chief bouncer and the accused also work at the same club as an MC. Altercation happened when both staffs were talking to a senior staff and both started an argument and rapidly rose to a fight.

The matter is now been handled by the Nigerian Police and they are getting to the matter. . .
We would like to clarify that Wizkid’s outstanding bill has nothing to do with this fight.

It was a situation of two staffs indiscipline act. Wizkid’s outstanding bill is a different issue to be addressed separately and vividly.

Yours sincerely,

‘I prayed for God to take my life’- Emmanuel Ugolee

Media personality, Emmanuel Ugolee, took to his Instagram page today to share a touching story of how doctors recently discovered lumps in his lungs and the long and painful wait to determine if they were malignant or benign.

In his post, Emmanuel  recounted how he was informed of the lumps and how he got so tired that he prayed to God not to allow him wake up the next day as he remembered his mum and the painful journey they have been through together in the search for his total healing.

Read his full text below ;

”God is faithful, & he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear” 1st Corinthians 10:13

I hope I can remind you this morning of the whole truth in these words from telling you this true life story of mine.

I had mentioned spending 18days in the hospital some weeks back.

It was the hardest 18days ever but 6 out of those days were indescribably torturous because I was waiting for the results of a biopsy.

One of the procedures I had done was called a conoloscopy. They removed 2 lumps from the large intestines called polyps.

The doctor explained that polyps can be cancerous or not but sadly, 1 of them in shape & size suggested it was cancerous from his experience. So while we waited for confirmation, I recieved material to read on understanding colon cancer.

Smiling with his hand on my shoulder : “Be cool, we caught it early and would check every 3years” he said to me who was smiling back at him while the hottest tears my cheeks have ever felt waited for him to shut the door

Haba now? How? Me? Cancer? It felt too unreal. I just knew I couldn’t handle this one. No way. Who was going to tell my mother that I had cancer too? The week earlier she was happy my lungs, liver and heart were certified to be in great shape and the kidney chapter was about to be closed. How do we flip open a cancer chapter after that?

I wont lie to you, I was certain that my patience, strength & faith had finally come to the breakage bustop. Stupidly, I asked God to please give her the strength to bear it and stop me from waking up the next morning.

Well, He ignored my foolishness & kept waking me up every morning. The 6th day came. Every body that opened that door made my heart skip

Finally, my doctor walks in. I shut my eyes coz I didn’t want to read his expression. His words fell on my ears “Mr Ugolee! They were benile”

Be-kini? “Benile. No trace at all of cancer. I’m suprised”

The joy, you can only imagine. God knew i couldn’t take it and didn’t let it close

Your worst nightmare would have no business with reality by His grace &
however scary the weight of the load on your shoulder is at the moment, it is there momentarily because you can carry it.

Teenage boy kills 5-year-old in Ebonyi, takes body parts to Anambra for money ritual.

FILE PHOTO FOR ILLUSTRATIVE PURPOSE

A 19-year-old boy from Ohaukwu local government area of Ebonyi State, startled workers at the Center for Psychic and Healing, a private herbal center located in Awka, when he opened a bag and brought out the genitals and fingers of a little boy he killed in Ebonyi State and brought to the center to perform rituals that would make him rich.

What surprised onlookers was the boldness with which the teenager identified as Ekwashi Sunday Onwe explained how one Blessing, now at large, took him from Ebonyi State to Awka, two days earlier, to show him where the ritual would be performed.

For her efforts, Blessing was allegedly paid N50,000, even though Sunday, who paid her the money, has no means of livelihood.

However, the bubble burst when Sunday discovered that he had been sent on a mission impossible.

He said:

“I knew Blessing, even though I do not know her house. I told her my problem which was that the petty trading I was engaged in had collapsed and that I was finding life very difficult.

She then suggested to me that I could be a rich man if I killed somebody and take the private parts to a place she would direct me.

We first came to Anambra State to look for someone to kill, but we did not succeed, which made us to go back to Ebonyi. On that fateful day, I sighted the boy as he was escorting his sister to fetch water from a borehole.

It was Emeka my friend (now at large), who rushed and captured him and we carried him into the bush where I used machete to cut off his head. When I made sure that he had died, I cut off his genital organs and fingers and used a container to collect his blood.

We then threw his body and the head into the stream”.

He said further that Blessing, who brought him to Awka, said if he could bring the fresh penis and fingers of a boy, the woman would prepare a charm which would make him rich and that it was a place where his problems would be solved.

Ooni Of Ife reveals

In an exclusive chat with KORE OGIDAN, Ooni of Ife speaks on his life in the palace and other issues

Excerpts

As a kid, did you always know you would end up being a king?

The prophesies came before I was born. Also, kings are actually born, not made. In my case, before I was born, it had been predicted that I would be king and to God’s glory, that prophesy stood and came to reality. There are many predictions and destinies that actually don’t get fulfilled but thank God that mine came to pass. It was God who made mine to become a reality. I had been very conscious of it growing up. Also, before I became king, as a prince, I had been friends to many other kings. I had learnt the rope for many years before I assumed the throne.

You must have had a great birthday with your wedding just two days apart. Tell us about that experience for you.

I don’t know why the whole world made a big deal about it. To the glory of God, marriage is one of the things that one should do. Honestly though, I was never really single. I have a permanent Olori in the palace spiritually but I just joined my new one physically. The permanent Olori in the palace is the Yeyemolu, who is the first Olori in the palace and she has a spiritual role to play in here. As a matter of fact, the Ooni can never be single because he permanently has a wife in the palace. Even if there is no woman in the palace, she, the Yeyemolu, is there always. Many people probably just thought I was single all the while. What I am going to say about my new wife is that to the glory of God, she is a good lady.

Knowing you were going to be king, were you spanked as a kid?

Of course! But they were advised never to touch or hit my head, even as a kid. But, everywhere else was beatable. I became very conscious of my head growing up.

What was your worst childhood experience?

When I got into secondary school at about age 11, there was a classmate of mine who beat me up one day by the classroom and gave me a very deep scar on my hand. The scar is on my left hand and it almost rendered that hand useless, especially for me being left-handed. Every time I see that scar, I remember the experience.

What other fond memories do you have of your childhood?

I used to win a lot of prizes as a kid and that always made my parents proud. Another memory was getting into Loyola College, Ibadan, and there is a story to that. I always came first in class in primary school. One day, I came third, losing to a boy and a girl who both came first. There was no second position and I came third. My parents were very disappointed and I promised them that I would finish well. When I went in to sit my common entrance examination, I came first in my entire primary school and with the tough competition there, I was able to enter Loyola College. I got in on merit. That made my parents proud and I was able to prove to them that I was still in control of the situation.

Even as a king, do you cook in the palace?

That is not even possible. As the king, you have to knock 16 inner and outer doors before you get to me. It’s a big process and there are so many processes and procedures that I met from my ancestors before becoming king; so, no, I don’t cook. However, before I became king, I did cook a lot and very well. My mother taught me how to cook.

Your regalia looks amazing. How do you really like to dress?

To the glory of God, my dress sense has to have a proper blend of spirituality and modernity. My dress sense must connote who I am as a spiritual head of the Yoruba race. Before Christianity or Islam, the Yoruba heritage and culture and tradition have remained intact to date and we didn’t blend our tradition at all in Ife. There is a particular divination and spirituality we go through and I had to master them and see how to blend that with my everyday life. This is why my dress sense depicts what happens in Ife, and by extension, the Yoruba land.
