In a tragic development, General Segun Aremu (rtd), the Olukoro of Koro in Ekiti local government area of Kwara State, was brutally murdered by daredevil gunmen.
The yet-to-identified gunmen stormed the palace on Thursday night, February 2, killed the monarch and abducted his wife and two others.
Confirming the tragedy, the state government released a statement through the chief press secretary to the governor, Rafiu Ajakaye.
The statement reads;
“Kwara State governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has condemned the killing of Olukoro of Koro in Ekiti Local Government, HRH retd General Segun Aremu. The monarch was reportedly shot dead in his palace on Thursday night by some unknown gunmen, who also whisked away his wife and two others. The governor condemned the development, which he said was reckless, shocking, and abominable. He charged the security agencies not to spare any resources to track down the perpetrators, free the spouse and others taken away, and bring them to book.
We will certainly get the perpetrators and ensure that this is their last crime against humanity. My profound condolences go to the people of Koro. Our hearts are broken, and we stand by them at this time and always.”

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has averred that kidnapping is not on the rise in Nigeria, and people should not believe everything they see on social media.

Speaking on Channels Television on Thursday, February 1, Olumuyiwa stated that the reported cases are not as many as claimed on social media, and people should disregard the reports they see online.

Nigerian health influencer, Egemba Chinonso Fidelis, popularly known as Aproko Doctor, has revealed that he will willingly sacrifice his life for his wife, Chiamaka.
The medical doctor stated this in a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, while discussing sacrificial love.
Aproko Doctor, who tied the knot with his wife in June 2020, disclosed that if it ever came to laying down his life for his wife, he would gladly do it.

He said he went blind in one eye on December 3rd 2022 and was diagnosed with Cranio Pharygiona – a brain tumour – two days later.

An American woman, Jennifer Martin, has revealed that she lives happily with her husband, Daniel, and her boyfriend, Ty, in the same house.
The 35-year-old resident of Virginia, USA, and her 36-year-old husband tied the knot in 2008 and soon welcomed two children. However, in 2015, the couple opened their marriage to accommodate multiple partners.
They decided to fully embrace polyamory before the COVID-19 pandemic when they invited Ty, aged 33, to live in their home and split the rent.
They lived together in a rented apartment for four years, with each of them contributing to the household expenses amid escalating housing costs.
Jennifer, Daniel, and Ty collectively navigate their financial responsibilities, with Ty contributing $700 towards the monthly rent of $1,537. Groceries are covered by Jennifer and Daniel, while Ty pays for utilities and Wi-Fi.
Ty has also developed a close bond with Jennifer and Daniel’s children and occasionally assists with their personal expenses.
Professionally, Jennifer works as a freelance editor, Daniel serves as a private school teacher, and Ty holds the position of a bank manager.
Their combined annual income of approximately $155,000 has not only facilitated their shared living arrangement but also enabled them to save towards buying a house.
The trio recently achieved a significant milestone by purchasing a four-bedroom, three-bathroom home for $325,000 in December last year.

“Instead, I switch beds between Ty’s room and Daniel’s room every two nights, and I have a basket that I carry from room to room with my nighttime essentials like my face wash, night cream, night guard and the book I’m reading … I try to make it as fair as possible for sleeping arrangements between Ty and Daniel.”
The mother of two further explained that both Ty and Daniel are also seeing other people.
“Daniel has a serious nonbinary partner he sees once a week, while Ty has a long-distance partner in Pittsburgh and occasionally hooks up and dates other people locally,” Jenifer said. “I have two more casual relationships as well, with a woman and a man who both also date each other.”
“We’re really happy, we get along great, and my kids are thriving with three partners,” Jennifer told The Post, adding that it’s been a boon to more than just her bank account.

In a shocking case that has sent shockwaves across China, a Chinese couple has been executed for the gruesome murder of the man’s two young children from a previous marriage.
Zhang Bo and his girlfriend, Ye Chengchen, were put to death by lethal injection after their death sentences were recently approved by China’s top court.
The heinous crime took place in 2020 when Zhang threw his two children, a 2-year-old girl and a 1-year-old boy, out of a high-rise apartment window on the 15th floor of a residential tower in Chongqing.
The court determined that his girlfriend forced him to commit the heinous act, considering the children as an “obstacle” to their relationship.
They staged the deaths to appear as accidental falls.
After a lengthy appeals process, which included a second trial, the original death sentences were upheld by the Chongqing High People’s Court.
The Supreme People’s Court approved the ruling, recognizing both Zhang and Ye as principal offenders with equal roles and influence.
The motive behind the crime was described as “despicable,” and the means employed were deemed “brutal” by the court.
The severity of the crime warranted severe consequences under the law.

On Thursday, February 1, 2024, Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke found her guilty of the two counts against which she had earlier entered a not guilty plea.
The Lagos Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) initially charged Simisola on February 13, 2023.
The charge read; “That you, Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin, on the 28th day of January 2023, at Monarch Event Centre, Lekki, Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, whilst dancing during a social occasion, tampered with the sum of N100,000 (one hundred thousand naira) issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying same in the said occasion and you thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act, 2007.”
However, in light of the overwhelming evidence against her, Omoseyin altered her not guilty plea to guilty during the hearing that was resumed on Thursday.
Z.B. Atiku, the prosecution’s attorney, requested to tender the ICPC letter and other supporting materials as evidence. These included the defendant’s extrajudicial statement, a forensic report from her phone, a CD with videos of her spraying the naira note, a flash drive from the event centre, and the statement from the center’s representative.
Judge Aneke found the defendant guilty of the charges against the defendant after admitting them as exhibits.
Afuye Adegbola, the defendant’s defence attorney, begged the court for mercy and a non-custodial sentence on the defendant’s behalf.
Adegbola said; “She’s a first-time offender; she is a mother of one; she is remorseful and pleads for mercy.”
Judge Aneke handed down the punishment, which included a N300,000 fine in addition to six months in prison.

The “Holy Ground” singer received three nominations the previous year. His album “Timeless” received a nomination for Best Global Music Album.
The nominations include Best Global Album for his latest album, “Timeless.” The other two nominations are for Best African Performance for his song “Unavailable” and Best Global Music Performance for his song “Feel.”
Ahead of the 66th Grammy Awards, Davido stated in a recent interview with France 24 that his team worked really hard on the Timeless album and that he ought to have won 20 Grammys by now.
Davido said; “Shoutout to the Recording Academy. This is my first nomination ever. So it’s crazy to get three at once. We worked really hard on this album [‘Timeless’].
I was just really patient. So, if you ask me if I deserve Grammys in the past, I already need 20 Grammys. But, like I said, God’s timing is the best. We will see what happens.”

A Nigerian philanthropist who identifies as @thisibi has headed to the microblogging platform X, to rage concerning how prison wardens take pads that belong to female inmates.
According to her, they don’t provide pads for their female prisoners and they still take away the ones provided by people.
She also added that if evil befalls them because of their actions they would go around blaming the devil for it.

Netizens have shared different points of view after a Nigerian man who recently resumed his new job in Ghana complained online that his Ghanaian colleagues hate him. This was because, on his first day at work, he asked them to open the business outlet earlier than the usual time.
The man identified as @Nomatriquencee revealed that the outlet usually opens at 12 pm, he questioned why they would open for work at that hour when the outlet can commence work from 10 am.
According to him, his Ghanaian colleagues now hate him because of the suggestion, hence, one of them exclaimed that Nigerians are known for doing too much. He regarded his colleagues as lazy people and he was ready to make them work.
The tweet has sparked mixed reactions online regarding the man’s attitude in a new environment especially in a country that is not his nationality. In a shocking incident captured on video, a courageous 12-year-old girl fearlessly confronted a snake in a desperate attempt to save her beloved guinea pig.
The remarkable video, shared shows the extraordinary lengths young Rosie Wightman went to in order to rescue her pet named MaxiBon from the snake’s grip.
The incident took place in the backyard of their home.
In the video, she can be seen searching through shrubs until she discovers the snake with its jaws wrapped around the small guinea pig.
Without hesitation, she bravely grabs the snake and swings it around, forcing it to release its grip on her pet.
In an interview with 7NEWS, she explained,
“Didn’t even think it through. I was just like, ‘grab the snake, grab the snake’.”
Fortunately, her quick thinking attracted the attention of her father, Luke Wightman, who rushed to the scene.
With his help, the snake was separated from the guinea pig, allowing her pet to scamper to safety unharmed.
Reflecting on his daughter’s courageous act, he expressed his pride, stating:

In a recent interview, Burkina Faso’s interim leader, Captain Ibrahim Traore, announced that the country would be leaving the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) due to the organization’s failure to provide support in their fight against terrorism.
He expressed disappointment, stating that ECOWAS had strayed from its original values and had not fulfilled its mandate of promoting development, solidarity, and mutual aid.
Speaking on the ongoing conflicts in Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso, he lamented on the absence of aid from ECOWAS over the past decade.
He accused the organization of neglecting its responsibilities and failing to provide the necessary assistance to combat terrorism effectively.
“Unfortunately, with the passage of time, the organization has lost these values.
Today, the facts are clear. For more than a decade, Mali and Niger have been at war with terrorism.
And in Burkina Faso, we’ve been at war for almost a decade.
We have never received any aid from this organization,” said President Troare.
The decision to withdraw from ECOWAS was not made in haste but after careful consideration, he emphasized.
