Nigeria is safe again, Buhari praises Military

President Muhammadu Buhari has praised the military’s efforts in bringing an end to the insurgency in the nation.

According to him, the negative history which was associated with the northeast in the past decade is now gradually becoming a thing of the past, as a result of the efforts of all security agencies.

“Our nation is safe again, thanks to the efforts of our security agencies,” the president said at the Nigerian Army Day celebration 2018 in Monguno, Borno State on Friday.

Speaking further, he noted that Boko Haram insurgents now surrender willingly to the troops adding that although there are still challenges, they are being tackled head-on.

“Members of the Boko Haram insurgents now surrender willingly in their numbers to our troops.

“I am happy to inform Nigerians that all other forms of security challenges in other parts of the country are being tackled by our security agencies”.

Buhari praises Military

The President noted that this year’s celebration is designed to showcase the army’s personnel, equipment, as well as their combat capability.

Speaking further, he scored his administration high in the fulfillment of its key cardinal policies which are security, economy and anti-corruption.

“In the last three years of this administration, we have worked tirelessly to ensure and preserve the dignity and sanctity of life.

“When I was sworn in as the President and Commander in Chief of the armed forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I promised that this administration will tackle the challenges of insecurity, poor economy and fight corruption.

“We are all witnesses to the fact that our once battered economy as a nation, has exited recession and is once again vibrant,” the President said.

On security, he, however, noted that although violent acts are still being perpetrated by “those desperate to cause mayhem”, the government will continue to do its best to fish them out and ensure they are punished.

“There are pockets of violence in several states, some deliberately initiated by disgruntled persons who have lost all arguments and are desperate to cause mayhem as a way of seeking relevance.

“We shall fish them out and punish them according to the provision of the law”.

Police arrest, dismiss, arraign alleged killer of NYSC member

The Police Command in the FCT has arrested and dismissed a policeman who allegedly killed an NYSC member, Angela Igwetu, in Abuja.

Igwetu, who was allegedly shot in the early hours of Wednesday around Ceddi Plaza by a police officer, was rushed to the Garki Hospital where she died.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Sadiq Bello, disclosed this while addressing newsmen on the incident on Friday in Abuja. Bello said that necessary disciplinary procedures had been concluded.

“He ( suspect) has been dismissed from the force and arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction and he is currently on remand awaiting trail,” he said. “It was alleged that the lady, one Angela Igwetu stood up and brought out her head through the sun roof of a Toyota Camry car shouting and calling for help that she was kidnapped,” he said.

He said that the police claimed that they flagged down the vehicle but the driver refused to stop which made the police Inspector to open fire on the vehicle which hit the deceased.

The commissioner said that the command would not condone act of irresponsibility and incivility or outright criminality on the part of officers and men.

“They have always been admonished to be civil to members of the public and be professional in the conduct of their duties,” he said. He reassured residents of the territory to go about their lawful businesses without fear of molestation or harassment as their peace and security were guaranteed at all times. Bello appealed for calm and understanding from members of the public and family of the deceased as justice would prevail in the matter.

On the killing of the seven policemen, Bello said that the dastardly act would not deter the police from performing its constitutional duties. He called on members of the public to partner with the police to solve the security challenges in the FCT.

“We owe it a duty to arrest these criminals in order to assuage the souls of these young men so that they don’t die in vain. “The circumstances surrounding the incident is still very sketchy; however, we want to assure members of the public that we will do whatever is necessary to unravel the mystery surrounding the incident,” he said. The gunmen, on Monday at a roundabout in Galadimawa area of Abuja, killed seven policemen who were on stop-and-search duty operation.( NAN)

“Why I demanded sex from female student” – disgraced OAU lecturer finally speaks

OAU suspends professor

Richard Akindele, the lecturer sacked by the management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, for demanding sex from a student for high grades, has explained the reason for his action.

In his reply to a query issued to him by the university, Akindele explained that the five rounds of sex demanded from OAU postgraduate student, Monica Osagie, as revealed by the leaked audio conversation between them, was a deliberate attempt to discourage the student and at the same time to invite her to his office to obtain evidence.

According to New Telegraph, he revealed that the demand for five days of sex was a deliberate attempt to play along with the student. The university did not, however, buy his argument and dismissed the professor.

Evidence submitted by the professor to the investigative panel include screenshots of WhatsApp conversations including nude pictures allegedly belonging to Osagie. Akindele claimed that the two photos, an alleged screenshot of Osagie’s private part, were sent to him to arouse him sexually.

According to the WhatsApp messages presented by the lecturer, Osagie had allegedly initiated conversation with the lecturer at about 5:52a.m. on Sunday, February 25, declaring her interest in the lecturer. She then sent him seductive messages, including nude photos. The dismissed professor said it was only unfortunate that the girl was faster in implicating him.

CAN declares three days fasting and prayers over incessant killings

Christian Association Nigeria

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has declared July 9 to July 11 as National Day of prayers and fasting programme against the killings across the country.

The association also called on all Nigerians, both within and outside the country to take part in the programme.

The President, Rev. Samson Ayokunle made the announcement in a statement signed by Pastor Adebayo Oladeji, Special Assistant, Media & Communications to the CAN president, on Thursday in Abuja.

Ayokunle said that the decision was hinged on the willful and persistent killings of fellow citizens in general and Christians in particular and mostly in Plateau and Benue states where mass burial has become the norm.

“CAN is worried, disturbed and disappointed that despite all the clarion calls on President Muhammadu Buhari to re-organise his security team by replacing all the security chiefs, he has consistently not responded to such calls. From all indications, the President seems to be satisfied with their poor performance and the attendant problems that have led to the avoidable loss of lives and property,”
he said.

Christian Association Nigeria

He called on all Christians in the country and diaspora to participate in the three-day prayers and fasting programme for God to end all the senseless, unwarranted, and selected killings in the country.

“If the government has failed us, we are very sure that our God will never fail,” he said.

He disclosed that all the National Executive Committee’s members of the CAN, the church and denominational leaders have been invited to participate in a peaceful protest march to both the National Assembly and the States House to impress on the government to see the need to effectively stop the unprecedented killings.

Ayokunle said that the association has also directed its leadership at the state and local government levels to organise the same peaceful protest march to the Government House and the Local government headquarters respectively on July 11.

“We will tell the government enough is enough.

“I appeal to all members to be law-abiding before, during and after the peaceful protest,” he said.
He expressed disappointment to the ungodly and unlawful counsel from the Presidency for people living under the threat of the Fulani herdsmen to give away their land or face death.

The only time such a directive was given was during the tyrannical leadership of Ahab when he killed Naboth, who refused to let go of his inherited land to the greedy, wicked and the ungodly king Ahab.

Although, he succeeded in killing Naboth, the wrath of God did not spare his family despite his remorselessness. Those who use violence to take away what belongs to others are unfit to be called humans,” he added.

The CAN leader, however, called on Nigeria to rise up and speak against such a position and killing of innocent citizens.

Mother Burns Her 10-Year-Old Daughter’s Face With Electric Iron Over Missing N200 (Photos)

A 10-year-old girl who has been identified Udeme Usen Etukudoh, has been badly dealt with by her mum.

The young girl may now have been scarred for life after her mother burnt her face with electric iron for allegedly stealing N200.

The incident happened yesterday in Ikot Ekang Itam, Uruan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

A report by an NGO, Child’s Right and Rehabilitation Network (CRARN) exposed the development.

Read below:

Early Thursday, I met ten-year-old Udeme Usen Etukudoh, an indigene of Ikot Ekang Itam, being treated for burns and a deep cut on her face at a small pharmacy along Calabar/Itu Road. Upon inquiry, I learned that Udeme was severely abused by her own mother for “stealing N200”, the sum which is less than a dollar.

Domestic Violence

Udeme, a Primary 5 pupil of RCM School, near Itam Police Divisional Headquarters, said her mother, because of the missing N200, pushed the plug of an electric iron into an electrical socket and further applied the extremely hot device on parts of her body. The burnings later disfigured her face. Not satisfied with the burns, the girl said her mother used a short wood to hit and tear open her right chin just by her eye. Her mother, Aniedi Etim Akpan (according to the little girl), had gone out for petty trading at the popular Itam market as of the time I visited their house to make findings. Udeme’s stepfather, whose name could not be ascertained at the time of checks, and a woman who said she was the little girl’s elder sister, said that the missing money was stolen by Udeme, and that she deserved the burns dealt on her as “punishment”.

Domestic Violence

But the little girl, who lives with her mother and stepfather, denied stealing the money. She said anytime money gets missing from her step father’s pocket or house, the theft would be attributed to her. She said she was innocent of the accusation. Upon further inquiry, Udeme led me to her biological father, Usen Okon Etukudoh, a bricklayer who lives just close to where his daughter lives with her mother. Usen said Udeme had opted to stay with her mother, Aniedi, after their separation some years back, but that he would stab his former wife with a broken bottle if anything happens to his daughter.

As at 11.30 am, Udeme, dressed in her school uniform, had not taken breakfast when I met her at the pharmacy. To show the extent of trauma the little girl went through, the step-father who took her to the pharmacy shop rejected the bill of N4,000 he was asked to pay for the child’s emergency treatment. He wanted to pay N2,000 instead. I had to buy a loaf of bread and Coca-Cola so that she could eat something before being administered with what the pharmacy attendant called “inflammatory injection” to stop the pain. Two things are likely to happen to the child if her father decides to let her stay continuously with her mother (as I later told him): it is either that she leaves the house (to God knows where) in order to be free from torture or she gets killed secretly by her mother and stepfather. God help the hapless child!

Father of four killed on Father’s day over parking space argument

parking space argument

A father of four was killed on Fathers day over a parking space argument.

The man who killed the father-of-four because of an argument over a parking space, yesterday submitted himself to the Police.

According to Daily News, the suspect, David Hall, 46, planned his attack for months after 33-year-old William Fernandez took his parking spot in January.

On June 17, Hall got his revenge as he chased and gunned down Fernandez at about 12:20 a.m, just hours before the father-of-four was supposed to spend Father’s Day with his four children.

Hall then went on the run for nearly three weeks, as Police put up ‘wanted’ posters in his neighborhood.

Fernandez first encountered Hall in January outside Hall’s home on Forrest St. in Bushwick, Brooklyn, where he was visiting someone in the area, and the two argued over the parking spot, almost coming to blows.

On June 17, in the wee hours of Father’s Day, the two crossed paths again on Stanwix Street. at Melrose Street. This time, however, Hall had a gun, Police said.

He chased Fernandez, firing as they ran, and a bullet hit the dad in the chest, Police said. Fernandez bolted two blocks, finally collapsing on Bushwick Avenue near Beaver Street. He died at Wyckoff Hospital.

Hall, a father-of-two, faces murder and weapons possession charges.

Lady reveals how her father molested her from age 6 and she contacted assassins to kill her parents at age 12

father molested

A Nigerian lady, simply identified as Gift has revealed how her biological father started sexually assaulting her from the tender age of 6.

Vanessa Willie, who is a relationship and marriage coach spoke with the young lady where she revealed this.

She said the assault started when her mother was in the Police Academy and even when she came back and noticed things were different, she didn’t tell open up to her mother.

Her Dad had threatened her with his gun and a knife. He had also threatened to kill her and her mum if she mentioned it to anyone.

Her mum only found out 6 years later, when Gift was 12. She got angry and left Gift’s dad, but family, friends, and their church convinced her to go back to Gift’s dad and she did.

This affected Gift badly, and at some point, she took her parent’s names and photos to a herbalist and even contacted assassins to have them killed.

Her mum forgiving her dad and returning to him sent Gift into a life of fraud, robbery, and drug abuse from the age of 12. But today, she has moved on from that and is living her best life.

Vanessa wrote:

“Three years ago, Gift started her journey of recovery and healing with Vanessa after being abused by her biological father for many years. She was only six years old when the abuse began. First, he used his fingers. Then, it graduated to full-blown intercourse.

It became a regular thing and got so bad that for a period of time, she couldn’t attend school due to a whitish, smelly, purulent discharge from her private part and the unbearable associated pain.

This was Gift’s dilemma for years and her Mom was non-the-wiser initially. She couldn’t open up as her father had threatened to kill her and all she held dear if she dared utter a word.

Gift is a living proof that a little act of kindness and a little show of love, can turn the life of anyone around for good. She’s a single mother of two, who braved all the odds despite the abuse and dysfunctionality of her family to etch her name in the never-ending list of Survivors with Heart like an Amazon.”

World Cup 2018 : France sends Uruguay packing (Uruguay 0 France 2)

France progressed into the last 4 of the World Cup with a remarkably straightforward defeat of a subdued Uruguay on Friday.

Raphael Varane and Antoine Griezmann scored as France advanced to a World Cup semi-final against either Belgium or Brazil after easing past Uruguay on Friday.

Following an opening passage high on energy but bereft of quality, Varane glanced home a Griezmann free-kick to open the scoring before the Atletico Madrid man doubled France’s advantage just after the hour mark in a moment to forget for Uruguay goalkeeper Fernando Muslera.

Griezmann found space 25 yards out and fired in a shot that should have been routine for Muslera but the ball slipped through his grasp and into the net.

Oscar Tabarez’s Uruguay, attacking options looked bleak with injured striker Edinson Cavani out and they never looked like finding a route back into the game and France now await Friday’s late game to see who they will meet in St Petersburg on Tuesday.

France Worldcup

The opening 40 minutes were notable only for Uruguay’s pressing and harassing of France whenever Didier Deschamps’ men were in possession, and a bad miss from Les Bleus’ golden boy Kylian Mbappe.

Assets declaration: What Saraki’s victory at Supreme Court means to Nigeria – Dogara

Assets declaration

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Yakubu Dogara, has congratulated the President of the Senate Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki on his victory at the Supreme Court.

He stated that the victory has proven that institutions in Nigeria are working.

In a statement issued on Friday, Speaker Dogara said he received the news of the apex court’s verdict with joy.

He said: “The judgment of the Supreme Court today has once again reinforced our confidence and belief in the nation’s judiciary as the last hope of the common man.

“As Democrats, this has again reaffirmed the independence of the judiciary as protected by our constitution under the doctrine of separation of powers and principles of checks and balances.

“No doubt, the Supreme Court’s judgement will help in no small way in strengthening the independence of the legislature as the first organ of government under our constitutional democracy and presidential system of government.

“The almost three years trial has now been finally put to rest and has shown that no matter the allegations only the truth prevails in the end.

“He commended the doggedness and fighting spirit exhibited by senator Saraki who refused to be distracted by the long trial and remained resolute and focused on his legislative duties as president of the Senate.”

Dogara urged Saraki to see the trial as a test of his leadership, calling on him to forgive and put the prosecution behind.

Senate President, Bukola Saraki reacts to his victory at the Supreme Court

Saraki reacts

The President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki has reacted to the Supreme Court ruling that upheld his earlier Appeal Court victory on Friday.

The lawmaker reiterated his confidence in the judicial process and the ability of the Judiciary to do justice to all manner of men and in all circumstances.

According to DailyPost, he signed a statement, and forwarded it to them after the judgment of the Supreme Court.

He expressed gratitude to all Nigerians who have supported him since the case commenced three years ago.

“At the end of a tortuous journey of 1018 Days counting from September 22, 2015 when the case began at the Tribunal, I am happy that I have been vindicated.
“The Supreme Court has affirmed that there is no evidence of false declaration of assets.
“The court also observed that certain agents took over the responsibility of the Code of Conduct Bureau in this trial, and one can infer that this was done towards a pre-determined end.

“This outcome has gladdened my heart and further strengthened my belief in this country and as well as my faith in Almighty Allah, who is the righter of all wrongs.

“God has vindicated me today before the judgement of man, and I am most thankful and humbled at His grace and infinite mercies.

“Through it all, I refused to be shaken, knowing, as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, that the arch of the moral universe may be long, but it bends towards justice. I knew the day would come when justice would prevail and I would be exonerated.

“I have always believed in the infallibility of our Judiciary, secure in the knowledge that our courts – the last refuge of the oppressed – would never condemn the innocent. This outcome is also a vindication of my belief in the rule of law.

“As I said in my first appearance at the CCT, this is a politically motivated case.

“The case was trumped up in the first instance because of my emergence as the President of the Senate against the wishes of certain forces.

“Ordinarily, I doubt anyone would be interested in the asset declaration form I filled over 15 years ago.

“What we have seen is the opposite. Instead of working together in the interest of the nation and to seek to do better for our people, we are fighting one another and using legal instruments to mount baseless accusations against one another.

“Instead of exhibiting the need for unity and working day and night for that purpose, we are stoking the fire of division and rancour.

“I maintain that, above all else, my CCT trial has been a flagrant vilification of my person, and shows that some people are after their personal interests rather than the national interest.

“As a result of the war of attrition, various arms of government have wasted resources needlessly. It has been three wasted years across board in this country.

“Three years that would have been devoted to tackling issues affecting Nigerians, including: economic recovery, insecurity, youth unemployment and strengthening national institutions – were wasted on malicious prosecution.

“People were ready to trade off three years that would have been devoted to fostering cooperation, unity and economic progress for their selfish ends.

“It is my hope that those who are behind my persecution will see the handwriting on the wall and leave me to do the work for which I was elected, so I can continue to give my all to this great country of ours.

“As many have rightly observed, it is plain to see that the anti-corruption fight is being prosecuted with vindictiveness, to target perceived political opponents.

“I believe in the need to fight corruption, but I will never be party to the selective application of the law or the rhetoric of an insincere anti-corruption fight.

“I believe in fighting corruption and I have made my own humble contributions to the fight against corruption in this country.

“As a presidential aide, I initiated the process that led to the enactment of the Fiscal Responsibility Act.

“I was the first governor to establish the Price Intelligence Unit which later metamorphosed into the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) at the federal level.

“In the history of this country, the highest fraud, the most brazen corruption has been the Fuel Subsidy scam.

“No one wanted to talk about it or confront entrenched powers. As a Senator on the platform of the ruling party at that time, I sponsored a motion on the floor of the Senate calling for investigation that led to the unprecedented exposure of the massive corruption in the fuel subsidy regime.

“That was my only point of departure with the former President. My antecedents speak for themselves.

“I thank Nigerians for standing by me through the difficult period of this trial.

“The support of ordinary Nigerians and their faith in me, as well as their sophistication and discernment in seeing this case for what it was, has been a source of strength to me.

“I am most grateful for the support of my Distinguished Colleagues and the Honourable Members of the 8th National Assembly for their unflinching support and regular attendance at the various proceedings.

“They were unfairly criticised for accompanying me on court appearances, but it is now clear that they did so because they believed that injustice to one, is injustice to all.

“They have been the true embodiment of esprit de corps. I thank them for banding together in the face of an unconscionable attack on the institution of the legislature.

“I thank my legal team for their determined and principled stance, and for their knowledge and diligence, which saw this case to its just conclusion.

“My gratitude to all my friends, political associates, supporters and the good people of Kwara State – all of whom have been solidly behind me.

“I thank my family for enduring this trial with their usual grace and fortitude.

“My immense gratitude also goes to the international community for their interest in this case.

“The Nigerian press have kept watch and I appreciate their vigilance in ensuring that all the facts were held up to scrutiny.

“To my supporters, yes, there is a reason to rejoice, but our celebration must be tempered with the sobering lessons of the attempted injustice from Day One of this trial.

“We all have to canvas for fairness in the fight against corruption. We should see this verdict as an inspiration to champion the rule of law, promote democracy and its institutions as well as tolerance of divergent views.

“The overwhelming support of so many, and the insistence on ensuring that due process and truth prevailed, has made this verdict possible,” he stated.
