Timi Frank writes open letter to President Buhari

Timi Frank writes

Outgoing Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has written an open letter to President Buhari.

In the letter, he admonished him to ensure that the rule of law and respect for democratic processes are upheld.

Read the letter below:

“Dear Sir,

“JUNE 12 AND THE BURDEN OF GOOD GOVERNANCE

“It is with great delight that I write this open letter to you, Mr. President, and wish to congratulate you and all Nigerians for the great honour done to late chief MKO Abiola and his running mate, with the conferment of GCFR and GCON on them respectively, whilst not forgetting others who stood gallantly in reclaiming the JUNE 12 MANDATE against all odds.

“Indeed, this great gesture has soothed the open sore of the June 12 struggle and has began the process of healing the wounds of those dark days, whilst bringing succour to the souls of the departed who fought against dictatorship and tyranny in a bid to reclaiming the lost mandate of the Nigerian people.

“Suffice to say, Mr. President, that it is no coincidence that this laudable gesture has been achieved 25 years after all hopes of restoring the mandate appeared to have been dashed indefinitely.

“Having recognized the need and finally put to rest this dark episode in our country’s history, I humbly urge you to take the subsequent step in declaring Chief Abiola as President (Posthumously) and further recognising all the key players who played different roles in the actualization of democracy during those trying times, and of course, those who also paid the ultimate price for freedom with their sacred lives.

“It is no gainsaying to say the least that Nigerians will forever remain grateful to you for standing up and putting to rest the June 12 imbroglio, irrespective of dissenting opinions.

“It will be wise to conclude, therefore sir, that this great feat will usher in a new Nigeria where all the main ingredients to sustaining and entrenching democracy will become the norm in our daily lives, spearheaded by those in power at all times.

“The lessons of June 12 and what it meant to Nigerians should be the bedrock of our democracy, as anything short of this will rubbish the very intention for which the honours were conceived ab initio.

“Furthermore, Mr President, having been a lone voice in criticizing the activities of your administration, despite being a member of the APC, many will wonder what the true intent of this Open Letter may convey, but be rest assured sir, that only those who mean well for this country will speak up when wrong is being painted as right.

“The CHANGE mantra upon which this administration was voted into power massively by Nigerians, irrespective of ethnic, religious and social affiliations, is fast eroding away and I’m afraid, sir, that if nothing is done to Right the Wrong, then the Hopes and Aspirations which had ushered in a brighter tomorrow will end up in Regret and Despair.

“That I have decided to speak up against the current ills in the system attest to the fact that, it is only when people speak up that True Change will eventually occur.

“The resilience and belief in the June 12 Struggle attest to the fact that those who fought for democracy in Nigeria believed in the truest meaning of democracy in all its ramifications.

“A country where the RULE OF LAW, FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND ASSOCIATION, UPHOLDING THE RIGHTS OF EVERY CITIZEN AND ABOVE ALL RESPECT FOR FUNDAMENTAL HUMAN RIGHTS was and is the very pillar upon which Chief MKO ABIOLA and several others paid the ultimate price with their lives.

“Anything short of this will amount to MILITOCRACY or DICTATORSHIP as it were. The lack of adherence to these social rights, I must admit, are very prevalent in this administration and seems to be growing larger by the day.

“These ills are reminiscent of and a sad reminder of the Junta days, with many regretting their actions of voting the APC into power.

“It will be pertinent, Mr. President sir, to proceed on a personal fact finding mission to the Nigerian streets, irrespective of bias, to find out the true reflections and opinions of Nigerians toward your administration.

“The flagrant disregard for the Rule of Law, Disobeying of Court Orders, Acute Nepotism, Selective Persecution, and Lack of Transparency are some of the ills very prevalent in the nation today.
“The various reports from Amnesty International and the U.S. Department of State have gravely indicted this administration.
“It is in this vein, Mr. President, that I urge you to give regard to the Rule of Law as the continuous incarceration of perceived enemies, without obedience to court orders, has become an enormous albatross confronting your government.
“Many a people believe that the duo of Sheikh EL Zak Zaky and the erstwhile NSA, Colonel Sambo Dasuki (rtf), are some of the personal witch-hunt of your administration, and therefore having preached peace and reconciliation during the Holy Month of Ramadan, Nigerians would be interested to see if they will be set free, to at least allow for the Rule of Law take its course.
“The infighting within the National Assembly and the clamp down on opposition voices is clearly in sharp contrast to the democracy that was envisaged and clamoured for by Nigerians before your inception.
“As we draw near to another election year, it will be beneficial to your administration that these concerns are vigorously addressed, so as to usher in a ray of hope for a better Nigeria as envisioned by MKO Abiola himself.
“The EKITI and OSUN elections will be a litmus test for all Nigerians to attest, if indeed, what is to come in 2019 will be anything to go by. Having preached peace and perseverance to all Nigerians, your actions or inactions will be very vital as we approach these elections.

“I would conclude by leaving you with this words that: “If the position is that the June 12th sensationalism is beyond the personification of Chief MKO Abiola GCFR, and more about the memorial and honour of the protagonist that advocated and sacrificed for democratic tenets, then the moral, socio-political, and emotional modus operandi of its proponents must unequivocally demonstrate the Rule of Law, which is intrinsically the Blood of Democracy. Any move, in whatever class, shade, or shape that is short of upholding the Rule of Law is simply shenanigans.

“No matter who and how many people approve of the gesture. God loves, because He is Love. Also, God gives Justice, because he is just.” Copied.

“With best regards.

“Yours sincerely,

“Comrade Timi Frank

2018 World Cup: Gernot Rohr reacts to criticism from Okocha concerning his tactics

Gernot Rohr reacts

Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has defended his tactics against Croatia which saw the Super Eagles lose 2-0.

The German insisted that playing a three-man defence against Croatia was not the best decision as opined by many including Jay Jay Okocha.

The former Super Eagles captain, Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha questioned the decision of the coach not to go with a 3-5-2, which has suited the team best in friendly games.

However, Gernot Rohr has argued that they did not concede in open play, so the blame cannot be on the system.

“We didn’t concede in normal play, we conceded only two goals from set pieces. This is not a question of tactics or system. Our system was okay, we cannot play with three (at the back) when there is only one centre forward.

“We played with four defenders because there were three Croatian strikers who are very strong. I was satisfied with the organisation of the team but what we missed in the game is being professional from set pieces. Each game is different. We know we can play with three centre backs but it was not a good day (Saturday) to do that,”

Messi missed penalty because he cancelled Israel game – Israel defense minister says

Messi missed penalty

Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman has said that Lionel Messi and his Argentine team’s draw to Iceland is as a result of the team boycotting a friendly game with Israel which would have held in Jerusalem few days to the kick off of the world cup.

Argentina drew 1-1 to world cup first timers Iceland with Lionel Messi throwing away an opportunity to put his team in front when a penalty he played was saved by Iceland goalkeeper, Hannes Thor Halldorsson, who emerged man of the match.

Tweeting about Messi’s loss, Avigdor Liberman said:

”Argentina’s game in front of Iceland see how much missing a workout game in front of Israel. Mount Iceland, a small country, 350,000 residents with a huge team.”

An Arab Israeli lawmaker, Ahmed Tibi also linked the miss to the withdrawal from the Israel game, tweeting a poll asking, “Who was happier that Messi missed his penalty today?”

The Albeceleste of Argentina pulled out of its final pre-World Cup warm up game with Israel due to pressure, threats and intense protests from the Palestinians after Israel decided to move the game to Jerusalem from Haifa, where it was originally to have been staged.

Jibril Rajoub, head of the Palestinian soccer federation, said that the match was politicized after Israel decided to hold the match in Jerusalem.

He urged Arab and Muslim sports fans to burn photos and T-shirts of star player Lionel Messi if the game went ahead.

A disciplinary proceedings against Rajoub has been opened by FIFA.

Ghanaian actor, John Dumelo has thrown a major shade to Nigeria’s Super Eagles after they lost their first group game in Russia.

World Cup 2018: Faces of disappointed Nigerians at the Kaliningrad stadium in Russia

disappointed Nigerians

Some patriotic Nigerian football fans at the Kaliningrad Stadium in Russia certainly couldn’t conceal their disappointments with the Super Eagles during their 0-2 loss to Croatia in their opening game of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

The fans had hoped that the Nigerian team will equalize Etebo’s own goal – only to fall short again by conceding a penalty thereby throwing the fans into ‘panic’ mode as the country will now rely on a miracle to qualify from the group stage.

The Super Eagles had an unimpressive start to their 2018 FIFA World Cup campaign on Saturday in Kaliningrad with the loss to Croatia, thereby dropping to the bottom of Group D.

The result meant Croatia moved to the top of the table with three points, while Argentina and Iceland are second and third respectively after playing out a 1-1 draw earlier.

Nigeria will take on Iceland on June 22 and play their last Group D game against Argentina on June 26.

Nigeria vs Croatia: Okocha slams Rohr, Mikel, defenders

Okocha slams Rohr

Former Super Eagles midfielder, Austin Okocha has slammed Coach Gernot Rohr for his tactical approach in Nigeria’s 2-0 defeat to Croatia.

Okocha also blamed the team’s poor defending which led to the two goals conceded in each half.

He added that Mikel was not creative enough in the midfield, adding that the position he was fielded did not allow Moses and Iwobi do well in the flanks.

“It was a decent first half but maturity was the edge the Croatian team had over the Nigerian team,” Okocha said on SuperSport.

“The Super Eagles got done by the movements of the Croatian team in their box. The Super Eagles midfielders were not doing their best both in defending and in attack.

“Eagles didn’t get the best out of Alex Iwobi and Victor Moses because the manager was trying to accommodate Mikel Obi in the team.

“The manager didn’t earn his money today. We were not a threat in the first half and I was expecting him to play three at the back, five players in the midfield and two strikers to the team a chance to get back into the game.

“It is sad because I know we can do better than this. Of course there is still hope but we have to do it the hard way now.

“These (Croatians) are world class players who know how to win by exploiting little details.”

“We didn’t have a creative player today,” the former Nigerian playmaker said.

“Mikel has been a good servant to the national team. His best position is playing in front of the defence. We saw what he did playing for Chelsea where he had a glorious career.

“The most creative player in that team is Alex Iwobi but he was played on the flanks. He (Iwobi) can play on the flanks at Arsenal because they had better players in that role like Mesut Ozil.

“The reason why we lost was because we played our best players out of their positions.

“Playing Mikel in that position didn’t help Moses and Iwobi on the flanks.”

World Cup 2018: Why Nigeria lost 2-0 to Croatia – Mikel Obi

Nigeria lost 2-0

Mikel Obi, the Captain of the Super Eagles has reacted to the team’s 2-0 loss to Croatia in their Group D opening in World Cup 2018.

He said he was baffled at the manner the team conceded two goals from set pieces.

An own goal from midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo and a penalty from Luka Modric condemned Nigeria to a 2-0 defeat at the Kaliningrad Stadium.

Mikel said, “It’s difficult to explain. We talked about it and considering the fact that we trained on it.

“It’s four goals conceded now from set-piece. We have to keep going to try to improve on set pieces.”

Mikel was also quick to play down talk of his teammates’ inexperience against the star-studded Croatian side.

“I think the young guys did well but we just have to keep going and trying to get better,” he added.
