Mrs. Felicia, a Nasarawa based bussinesswoman, married to Mr. Akin Akinshola, on Thursday, begged the Magistrate of Upper Area Court in Mararaba, Mr. Ibrahim Shekarau, to dissolve her marriage to her husband, who she described as an irresponsible man, over his inability to pay her bride price after 6 years of marriage.
“Akin has not paid my dowry in accordance with Yoruba tradition and every effort put across to enable him to pay has proved abortive.
“He is a very irresponsible person. He does not pay his children’s school fees and he does not provide proper feeding for us in the house.
“When I fell sick, he did not show any concern. All these have made me lose confidence in him,” She said.
The 34-year-old lady, whose marriage is already blessed with 3 kids, also asked to be granted custody of their children.
Responding to the divorce plea, Mr. Akin however opted for settlement outside the court, as he pleaded for time to enable his family and his wife’s family to meet and discuss the issue.
The case has been adjourned till March 9 for hearing and consideration of settlement.

A Lagbus driver, identified as Idowu Kolawole, who was accused of putting the lives of his passengers and road users at risk with his rough driving by a soldier, was allegedly flogged mercilessly by the soldier.
According to eyewitnesses of the incident which happened in Marina, Lagos, the wrong driver was flogged, as they disclosed that the soldier snatched a cane from some motor unionists in the area, which he used in flogging the driver. When begged by the passengers, he allegedly replied “Are the people in that Danfo bus not human beings?”
The eyewitnesses further disclosed that the commercial bus driver, who had stopped illegally to pick passengers, moved suddenly, forcing the BRT bus coming behind him to swerve sharply to avoid hitting the bus and other vehicles. The soldier then ordered the Danfo driver to chase the Lagbus bus vehicle, and block it on top of the bridge on the Marina.
When begged by the passengers to stop beating the poor driver, he allegedly replied “Are the people in that Danfo bus not human beings?”
“It was the Danfo driver that was at fault. If the BRT driver had not swerved, he would have hit the bus and some of the passengers would have been injured. He did what he could to avert trouble yet he was punished” a passenger said.
When interviewed by the nation, the poor driver said;
“The man just used his power on me. If he had been inside the Lagbus vehicle and witnessed what the Danfo driver did, he would have jumped down to beat the driver.
“The driver did not watch the road before he moved so I was forced to swerve to avoid hitting the car on the fast lane on my left. Because of him, the soldier beat me and even used his boot to kick my side. Unfortunately, I did not see his (the soldier’s) name well enough to identify him.”
A source close to the Churchill family has described as laughable, the claims by the actress that she had bought her estranged husband, Olakunle Churchill, the vehicles they were driving.
According to the source, who chose to remain anonymous, Churchill is in possession of the keys and documents of the cars.
“If she really did buy them, she should have taken the keys and receipts when she was leaving. No one knows why she is doing what she is doing. Maybe, she is using their son as bait and as a means to get sympathy from the people on social media,” the source said.

A woman was horrifically branded with hot tongs by her husband and father-in-law after she was suspected of having an affair. Jhamku, 22, was brutally burned all over her body all because she answered the phone to an unknown caller, according to reports.
After overhearing the conversation, her husband of two years Bhagga Gameti and his father Lehri Lal, are alleged to have taken the phone and spoken to the caller.
Failing to identify him, the men suspected Jhamku of having an affair and launched a brutal attack, beating her with sticks and then burning her legs, face, chest and genitals with hot tongs, Times of India reports.
Bhagga was arrested on Wednesday evening by police in Udaipur, India. Om Kumar, the police officer handling the case, said:

A Rochester Police Officer, is under fire after he allegedly allowed girls who were bounced from a night club, to twerk on a Police patrol car.
The ladies were not allowed into Pearl nightclub, New York, as one of them wore a tracksuit which violates dress codes for nightclubs – the Police officer allegedly granted their request of twerking on the car, which Chris Barber recorded and posted on Twitter.
According to Barber, “He [The officer] said, ‘I’m going to turn my back real quick,’ which is kind of a way of saying not yes, but not saying no.”
However, the Rochester Police Department, New York, has released a statement saying the twerk video is “inappropriate“, as it represents an unacceptable image of the Police Department.

A lecturer in the University of Lagos whose name has been given as Mr Ogunkunle, has been called out by his students for reportedly asking students who couldn’t spell a certain word to kneel down, and raise their hands, like Secondary School students.
According to Zeekyboy, the lecturer who rarely comes to his class, allegedly spends most of his time threatening and sending students out of a class they’re supposed to be in.
The incident reportedly happened during Geography class in the Faculty of Arts. He wrote:
“It’s not as if this is the norm in Unilag. But this particular lecturer has been terrorizing us.
We have other lecturers who behave well, but this particular man is just something else. I mean why will you tell adults like this to kneel and raise up hands, just because they were not able to spell a particular word.
This lecturer rarely comes to class. When he comes he spends most time sending students out and threatening them. He is just a disgrace to this wonderful university. We have very brilliant, decent lectures who respects us for who we are.
We are please begging the university to help caution lecturers like this so that our great Unilag won’t be a laughing stock amongst other universities.”
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has recovered jewelry worth millions of naira from the house of one Akka Babba Danagundi, brother-in-law to a former National Security Adviser to the late President Umar Musa Yar’aduwa, Major General Abdullahi Sarki Mukhtar.
The jewelry was found in a fireproof safe hidden in a house belonging to one Akka Babba Danagundi at No. 375, Gwangwazo quarters of Kano Municipal, Kano State.
About 50 documents in respect of landed properties bearing the name of the former NSA and his wife, Binta Sarki Mukhtar were also discovered.
The discovery was sequel to an intelligence report alleging that huge sums of money including foreign currencies were hidden in the premises.
During the operation, Aiko Fireproof safe and seven suspects including the house owner, Danagundi were arrested and brought to EFCC’s Kano Zonal Office where their statements was taken.
On arriving at the commission’s Kano Zonal Office, the safe was opened and several pieces of jewelry, such as necklaces and wristwatches, including 50 Certificates of Occupancy for properties located in Kano, Kaduna and Abuja, were found.
Among the jewelry recovered were 55 wristwatches, including three gold watches. Also 37 pieces of gold weighing 1,907.9g and another 15 pieces of fashion jewelry were found.
All the suspects arrested during the operation were released on administrative bail with the exception of Danagundi, who is still in custody assisting the investigation.

Zimbabwe’s High Court has outlawed corporal punishment for children both at school and in the home.
The ruling comes after a parent complained that her child in grade one, a class for six-year-olds, had deep bruises after a beating by a teacher.
Linah Pfungwa said her daughter had been punished for failing to have her reading book signed by guardians as proof she had done her homework.
The constitutional court will have to confirm the judgement.
The BBC’s Shingai Nyoka in the capital, Harare, says if upheld, it would transform the way parents have disciplined their children for centuries in the southern African country.
Some parents are criticising the ruling, while rights groups says it is long overdue, she says.
Ms Pfungwa, who filed her application with support from the Justice for Children’s Trust, said her child was severely assaulted with a rubber pipe.
“My child suffered major bruises and I took photographs and pictures… She had deep bruises on her back and she could hardly sleep properly,” the state-run Chronicle newspaper quotes her as saying.
“I posted the pictures of my daughter on our WhatsApp group for other parents to observe and it turned out that other children had also been assaulted.”
In her application, Ms Pfungwa said that children should not be subjected to any form of violence and such corporal punishment breached their rights under Zimbabwe’s Constitution.
She argued that other forms of discipline should be used for children.
“If my child misbehaves, I ground her by denying her access to television as well as denying her pocket money or other goodies like sweets and presents,” she said.
“If she does well, I reward her by presents or extra hours of watching television.
“My child is well-behaved and well-brought up simply as a result of the dialogue that I use as a means of discipline.”
Justice David Mangota agreed that corporal punishment for children was unconstitutional and said that parents and teachers should not lay their hands on children even if they misbehave.

Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo on Thursday admitted to not knowing his true age – according to him, his late mother merely told him she gave birth to him on a market day.
Mr. Obasanjo said this on Thursday at the 2017 International Youth Variety Day and Public Presentation of Olusegun Obasanjo’s Books for Children, as part of programmes for his 80th birthday.
The programme, organised by the Centre for Human Security, with the theme “Presidential Libraries Will Reduce Leadership Deficit in Africa”, held at theater hall of the Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta.
Mr. Obasanjo said while growing up, he had the challenge of knowing his real date of birth, because his parents were illiterates.
“At early stage in my life, I had the challenge of knowing my date of birth, and my peers always asked, while in return I persisted in asking my mother, who was an illiterate and had no records,” he said.
The former president added that when he continued to pressure his mother, the information he was given by his was that she gave birth to him on an Ifo village market day.
“When I continued to put pressure on my mother, she told me that she was preparing to go to market on the said day, and went into labour, and before others could return from the market, she had given birth to me,” Mr. Obasanjo said.
The former leader said he arrived at his current age when he considered the ages of some of his peers at the time.
“I’m not as lucky as some of my peers who know the dates of their birth. What matters to me is that I have chosen a date. If I don’t even know the exact date of my birth, at least I know my age group,” he emphasised.
The former president also spoke about morality in the society, lamenting that the era of genuine morality was fading, but needed to be revived in the interest of all and sundry.
“When we were growing up, if people doubt the source of your wealth, you will be ostracised. If your father goes out every night, the conclusion would be that your father is a thief, and if a family is seen and known to have engaged in crimes, the community will keep its distance from such family. All those values are gone, and how do we bring them back?” he said.

A member of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Ayo Yusuf, on Thursday declared that if President Muhammadu Buhari is sick then Nigeria as a whole is also sick.
Yusuf representing the Ijumu/Kabba-Bunu Federal Constituency of Kogi State made the declaration during a prayer session for the quick recovery of the President.
The Prayer session which lasted for about two hours was attended by seven members of the House and was presided over by Yusuf.
Speaking, Yusuf said “when the president is sick, Nigeria is sick. Praying for the leaders is Biblical in His commandment.”

As bizarre as it sounds, a “Baby Bin” has been created for parents (Desperate mothers) who wants to dump their unwanted newborns. And the church behind it claims it has saved hundreds of lives as they say it gives unwanted babies a fresh shot at life after they are abandoned.
The Berea Baptist Church in Johannesburg installed the hatch so newborns could be left anonymously by parents unable or unwilling to care for them, they call it “The Door Of Hope“.

When it was installed in 1999, up to 50 babies were being dumped on the streets and left to die by their parents every month.
Among the horrific stories highlighted by the centre include babies being flushed down toilets, left at rubbish dumps and thrown from buildings.
But the Door of Hope says it has saved the lives more than 1,500 lives through its kind-hearted charity work since.
Sharing that her method is not for the “rich’ but the “poor”, she says the trick is to use “Alum” that white solid substance you use in washing away the slime from snails.

A Nigerian Twitter user was quite upset when she took to her page to rant after her girlfriend who is getting married in May did the unthinkable to her.
According to Mobyy, her girl “conned” her into buying her wedding Aso-ebi by making her believe she was invited to both her traditional and white wedding ceremonies.
However, Mobyy later found out it was just the traditional wedding and she didn’t think it was worth attending anymore – So she asked her girlfriend for a refund of the Aso-ebi money only to be dealt with a shocker, girlfriend refused refunding her and Mobyy is pissed she was used to fund a wedding.
The Police in Imo State have apprehended the suspected killers of Oscar Chuks Okebata, the American veteran soldier who was robbed and murdered in Atta in the Ikeduru Local Government Area of the state on January 12, 2017.
At a press briefing In Owerri, the state capital capital on Wednesday, the state Commissioner of Police, Taiwo Lakanu, said that Osondu Chukwu, Uchechukwu Stanley, Onyekachi Kelvin Nwoke and Uchendu Promise were apprehended with concrete evidence that showed that they murdered the veteran soldier, who was in the state for the Christmas and new year celebrations .
Chuks Oscar Okebata, an American veteran soldier was robbed and murdered in Atta in the Ikeduru Local Government Area of the state on January 12, 2017.
The CP said that the suspects allegedly sold Okebata’s Samsung Note 5 handset at N125,000 which led to their arrest by the operatives of the command.
Lakanu said,
“The suspects were arrested in connection with the robbery and murder of one Oscar Okebata, of Achi Mbieri in the Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State, an American veteran soldier who returned home for the yuletide period last year”.
“The victim’s Samsung Note 5 handset was sold at N125,000, leading to the arrest of the suspected masterminds of the crime.”
The CP equally disclosed that the Police Sergeant and his gang, who allegedly planned to steal the newborn baby, had confessed to the crime and would be charged to the court very soon.

A husband kissed his wife goodbye before being buried in a coffin under a city street – Friends and family closed the lid of the casket and dumped soil on top of it after John Edwards climbed inside the box and laid down.
The pensioner is to spend three days inside the coffin in a hole dug with a JCB outside a church in Belfast. But he will at least have the benefit of mod cons including broadband internet.
John hopes the stunt will help raise awareness for those suffering from addiction and depression. The former addict founded the charity Walking Free, which helps people who are suicidal and those with addiction.
He will live stream help and advice to addicts from inside his coffin.
“I’m a former addict and I’ve been clean and sober for 25 years,” John said.
“I’m making a very large coffin, I’m burying it in East Belfast and I’m going to live in it for three days.”
During his three-day stint in the coffin, John will be broadcasting stories of hope from his temporary underground home to help those who are struggling.
“I know this is a radical move but people are continually contacting me who are either suicidal or who know friends or family who are,” he told Belfast Live .
“My plan is to speak to them from the grave before they get there and show them hope.”
A piece of ground alongside Willowfield Parish Church, in the east of the city, was prepared for the stunt as JCBs dug a hole to accommodate a coffin.
The coffin, big enough for John to sit up and lie down in, has been kitted out with electrics and broadband. The live stream from the coffin will be broadcast on the Walking Free website and live on Facebook.
John will take calls, emails, Skype and texts from people around the world, who in turn will share their stories, live streaming through the coffin.
It is hoped the feed will reach millions around the world.
“People will communicate with me how they have navigated and overcome trauma, suicide attempts, coping with addicted children or family members as well as addiction to substance and behavior,” he said.
John, a committed Christian who has been happily married to wife Trish for 20 years, said he is both privileged and humbled to help those who’ve lost hope.
