Jesus Christ’s tomb opened for the first time in 500 years – see what is inside

tomb-0

The shrine which contained the tomb where Jesus Christ ’s body lay for three days after his crucifixion has been opened.

The tomb has been sealed in marble since at least 1555 to protect it from pilgrims who kept stealing pieces as holy relics. But over the centuries the church had been destroyed and rebuilt so many times there were doubts about what it contained.

Now the tomb’s marble lid has been removed for the first time in five centuries – revealing a miraculous discovery.

tomb-01

There, unseen for half a millennium, was the limestone shelf where Christ’s body is thought to have been placed.

The researchers also discovered a second grey marble slab no one knew existed, engraved with a cross they believe was carved in the 12th century by the Crusaders.

Archaeologist Fredrik Hiebert of National Geographic, which was a partner in the project, says:

tomb-02

“The most amazing thing for me was when we removed the first layer of dust and found a second piece of marble.

“This one was grey, not creamy white like the exterior, and right in the middle of it was a beautifully inscribed cross. We had no idea that was there. The shrine has been destroyed many times by fire, earthquakes, and invasions over the centuries. We didn’t really know if they had built it in exactly the same place every time.

“But this seems to be visible proof that the spot the pilgrims worship today really is the same tomb the Roman Emperor Constantine found in the 4th century and the Crusaders revered. It’s amazing.

“When we realised what we had found my knees were shaking a little bit.”

Where Jesus was laid

It was opened in the presence of leaders from the Greek and Armenian Orthodox churches and the Franciscan monks, who share responsibility for the church.

Fredrik adds:

“They let the patriarchs of the three churches go in first. They came out with big smiles on their face. Then the monks went in and they were all smiling.

“We were all getting really curious. Then we went in, looked into the tomb, and saw a lot of rubble. So it wasn’t empty, even though there were no artefacts or bones.”

“How the Miss Anambra sex tape scandal will affect other pageants in Nigeria

miss-anambra-2015-2-1
Some time ago, the sex tape saga of former Miss Anambra, Chidinma Okeke, indeed threw several media into pandemonium after it emerged online.

The emergence of the sex tape has even created worries that other pageants may not hold as much credibility as they used to.

Meanwhile, a former beauty queen, Ambassador Sharon Anya, Miss Tourism Nigeria 2015, who spoke with Potpourri recently, says she also holds the belief that pageants may not be what they used to be.

Sharon Anya
Sharon Anya

“It will certainly affect other pageants. The organisers have to become more transparent, and let the criteria be properly spelt out, and being more transparent means, everybody should know why the winner won, and on the other hand, the contestants should always go for official meetings with her lawyer and manager before signing any contract”, she offered.

When asked if it is true that beauty queens cut corners to win at all costs, the Mass Communications graduate of Igbinedion University said it is a possibility and maintained that it is not exclusive to pageants.

“It happens in any other field. Some journalists go the extreme to get top interviews, even in churches, there are pastors that use diabolical powers to get to the top. Some athletes use drugs to get to the top, there are those that would want to do anything to get to the top of their careers, in every field. There are those that break the moral boundary in pursuit of a goal, others won’t, it’s everywhere, so it’s not peculiar to pageants only.

“I don’t know her to know what went wrong, the act was wrong but the person…I can’t judge. For future pageants, have a team, have a manager and a lawyer. For me, I got into Miss Tourism Nigeria pageant for a purpose and not to be famous. My pageant is about promoting tourism , women empowerment, leadership across the country and attracting foreign investors, I focused on that, and it kept me going, I was able to stay scandal-free because I invest in myself a lot, I cultivated a life I want to enjoy in peace,” she added

Toke Makinwa is willing to give marriage a second chance

toke-makinwa-makeover-13

Whats that saying about being battered but not broken? Toke Makinwa might be taking the marital plunge again after all.

The popular OAP who has had mostly horrible things to say about her marital experience from her 18-month marriage to fitness trainer, Maje Ayida, says she just might give marriage another go.

Speaking during a Chat with Encomium magazine, the 31-year-old made it clear that she is no longer bitter about her failed marriage and that anything could happen.

When asked if she could give marriage another shot, she said,

“It was a journey, we all go through different stages, we learn from them.

“Marriage is a beautiful thing. Next time we would be talking, I might be a married woman, who knows. Life is a journey. You are allowed to grow, it is a journey of growth, and be open, do what you are supposed to do when you are supposed to do it so that you can learn from your mistakes, become who you are supposed to be.”

Speaking on her perception of marriage, she said, “It is a beautiful institution. I am not coming from a bitter place, you would accept what happened.

“For me, it might be a marriage, for the next person, it might be a sick child. The most important thing is what you do with what you learnt from the situation.

“You are allowed to grow, it is a journey of growth, and be open, do what you are supposed to do when you are supposed to do it, so that you can learn from your mistakes, become who you are supposed to be.”

Speaking further, she said, “No one should see that your life is not perfect but I am here to change that. People should see you in your worst, which is how they can appreciate your success story. People should see you when you are down and under because you would still come up.

“If you reach the bottom, there is only one place to go which is the top. We need to eradicate shaming people to silence, most especially women. Women are held in high esteem.

“You can’t show to the world that you are heartbroken, you can’t show to the world that your marriage is not perfect because people would look at you and think there is something wrong with you. But there is nothing wrong with that person.

“She is walking through life. She is becoming what she is supposed to be. It is important that we unmask ourselves, let go off this tradition because people die in silence. There is more to life than the shame.”

My child confronted me for smoking in a movie — Actress, Aisha Abimbola

aisha-abimbola

Background
I am from Lagos State. My siblings and I were brought up in Isale Eko, where we lived with my father. My mum passed away when I was really young, so I basically became the mother of the house. I became responsible for the upkeep of my siblings and father. I did the cooking and was saddled with the responsibility of taking my brothers to school. Till date, I still care for my siblings and parent and I am protective of them. My brothers often have to remind me that they have come of age.

Education
I studied Catering and Hotel Management at the Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu.

Acting
I believe I was destined to become an actress because I never planned to become one. It happened that while I was still a student at the Lagos State Polytechnic, popular actor and director, Antar Laniyan, and some other actors, came to shoot a movie scene on campus. I recollect that it was a Wale Adenuga production. I walked up to him and told him I was interested in becoming an actor and the rest is now history.

Breakthrough
I started with Papa Ajasco by Wale Adenuga Productions. In addition, I featured in So Wrong, So Wright, This Life, The Valley Between, and some others.

I also produced my own movie titled T’omi T’eje, which was inspired by my National Youth Service Corps experience. For one reason or the other, some corps members, who enlisted for the scheme at the same time that I did, were unable to complete the programme.

The essence of the movie that I produced was to draw attention to some of the challenges corps members face during their service year.

Scripts
Even though I am usually given scripts where I have to play tough roles, I’m a versatile actress and can fit into any character. I love roles that challenge me. However, I’m an advocate of decency, and there are things that I just can’t do.

There was a time my child confronted me for smoking in a movie. It happened that way because I usually tell them that cigarettes are bad for the health. It was a herculean task explaining that I had to smoke because my character in that particular movie necessitated that I smoked.

Nollywood
There’s tribalism in the industry. Most Igbo producers are more comfortable working with their Igbo folks. It is even the Yoruba actors that go after Igbos as long as the person can interpret the role.

Hollywood
I would absolutely love to feature in a Hollywood production. If the script contains nudity, there are stunt-doubles who play such roles. I don’t have to strip; you’d just see my face, but someone else would be naked.

Motherhood
Because my mother died when I was a little girl, I make sure that I discuss with my children all of the time. I also encourage them to see me as a friend because my mum was quite strict.

Controversies
I’ve never been a controversial person. I watch what I do, where I go and who I associate with.

Fans
Some fans find it difficult to differentiate between you and the roles you play in movies. That is one of the challenges I face as an actress and it is a major one. Some people come up to me to say, “You’re too wicked. What you did is not good.” Some also behave in an unfriendly manner whenever we meet.

Style
Style to me means looking good without going nude, and I also love shoes

“Lagos is not a place to raise children with morals” – Veteran Actor, Peter Fatomilola

peterpapaajasco

Veteran actor, Peter Fatomilola has revealed the reason he stopped playing the role of Papa Ajasco and featuring in Wale Adenuga’s ‘Super Story’.

Fatomilola who starred as Papa Ajasco in the first episode in 1983 said the distance from Ife where he lived to Lagos was very tiring and difficult journey.

He said that he could not move to Lagos because he did not see Lagos as a place to live. “What we have in Lagos is money; no culture, no morals. It is not a place to raise children with morals. I’ve been living in Ife for over 40 years. I am from Ekiti State, but Ife is the home of culture and center of civilisation,” he stated.

His opinion is quite different from a lot of people whose dreams were to raise their children in Lagos.

Narrating about his love for “Ifa” he said, “My father, late Chief Abraham Ojo Fatomilola, was the head of the herbalists in my town. We call that ‘Olu Awo’ or ‘Agba Awo.’

“In fact, I only wanted to study ‘Ifa’ and was always around my father, because it was great fun with him.

When people came with goats, sheep, ducks and chickens, my father would take the parts he needed and instruct us to roast the other parts.” But for his mother, he would not have taken education seriously, because of his love for ‘Ifa.’

Why my Marriage is still intact – Actress, Mosun Filani

mosum-0

She is one of Nollywood Yoruba actresses with an enviable marriage. Beautiful, fashionable and popular actress, Mosun Filani-Oduoye is always an item with her husband, Hon Kayode Oduoye, a lawyer cum politician in Osun State.

The couple got married in 2012 and is blessed with two children.

Kayode’s father is the late Senator Simeon Oduoye, a retired AIG who served as Military Administrator of Ebonyi and Niger states. He later became a senator and represented Osun Central in the Senate from 2007 to 2011.

For a celebrity marriage that has become envy among her peers and colleagues, Mosun Filani, who is fondly called Yeye Alubarika, spoke exclusively to Kemiashefonlovehaven on what makes her marriage work:

mosum-01

She said, “There are many factors in making a marriage work and the first factor is the God factor. God is the only one that makes all things possible and He makes love to grow in the hearts of a couple for each other.

“The second is love and understanding. When you love and understand each other, things work easily and there are no problems.”

Though she was off the screen for some years to have her babies, Mosun is back on set. Last year, she featured in a few films and also produced one.

Currently, she is on the set of a film, ‘ARA’ produced by Mercy Ebosele.

The beautiful mother of two lives in Osun State with her family.Asked how she juggles her time as a mother, actress and businesswoman, she replied:

“I plan my time. Anytime my husband will not be around, I don’t pick up any acting job. I work with his time and schedule my appointments to what will suit us.

“If a producer wants me on location, the timing has to be Ok by me especially my family.”

This takes her to talking about what makes celebrity marriages work.

mosun-filani-and-hubby3

She said, “When you are married, the two of you must know that you are no longer single and you can’t live your life as a single man/woman. You are no longer on your own and you stay back from distractions.

“The first 10 years are critical because those are the years that form the foundation of any home. You need to know each other well and learn to bond. Once you are married, you need to create time for your family because that is the time you get to know the family you are married into. Also, learn to do everything together and that way, external influence is avoided.”

On her husband, she told KALH, “Thank God for His mercies because my husband has always been there for me. Truth is, you can only record success in your endeavours when you are blessed with a stable and peaceful home front and there is no domestic upheaval. He has been quite supportive.”

Read their statement below:

The National Youth Service Corps regrets the loss of three Corps members, Elechi Chinyerum Nwenenda, Oladepo Ifedolapo and Asuquo Ukeme Monday during the on-gong 2016 Batch ‘B’ (Stream I) Orientation Course in Bayelsa, Kano and Zamfara States respectively.

The death of the trio followed brief illnesses and after medical teams in the camps battled to save them in line with established procedures. Their demise, coming in their prime time when they were bracing up for further roles towards advancing their respective families, the nation and the rest of humanity, came as a rude shock to us in the NYSC family.

On behalf of the Management, staff and Corps members nationwide, I wish to express our sincere condolences to the families of the deceased Corps members. May the Almighty God grant them eternal rest and give their families and the rest of us the fortitude to bear the irreparable losses.

While we mourn the demise of these Corps members, who, out of patriotic zeal, answered the clarion call to serve their fatherland, we are constrained to correct the impression of negligence being created in some quarters.

Management wishes to state that the welfare of Corps members has always remained topmost in the priorities of the Scheme, and we have continued to strive to give our best in that regard. The policy of the Scheme regarding healthcare during Orientation course provides for the setting up of camp clinic manned by qualified Doctors and other Corps Health Personnel.

The clinics, which are also provided with drugs and other basic equipment, are detailed to render round-the-clock medical services on camp with standing arrangement to refer and ensure immediate movement of patients to more sophisticated health facilities when necessary.

We want to inform the public that medical teams in our camps have always been guided by the procedures of practice and in the most professional ways possible.

However, in view of these unfortunate incidents in Bayelsa, Kano, and Zamfara states, Management has set up a high-powered committee to investigate the immediate and remote causes of the loss the Corps members.

Management appreciates the concern of stakeholders, and wishes to assure the general public, especially serving and prospective Corps members as well as parents and guardians that the Scheme will continue to take measures aimed at ensuring the security and general well being of youths enlisted to serve the nation on the platform of the Scheme.

“Nollywood actress forced me to divorce my british wife publicly” – Actor, Yomi Fabiyi

yomi-fabiyii

Popular Yoruba Actor, Yomi Fabiyi in a phone chat with Encomium has revealed how an unnamed actress forced him into making his divorce to his British wife public.

Yomi-Fabiyi-and-wife

He said;

“In all honesty, there were ups and downs in the marriage for a while. At a point, she thought people writing on the internet was really affecting my decision to move over. I told her I am a different breed and such talks hardly get at me. When I take decision to be happy, provided it is nothing criminal, illegal, immoral or anti-social, I careless about those who feel angered by such decision.

I decided to call it quit when despite trying to conceal the storm, an upcoming actress who recently relocated to the UK got to know some hidden stuff and shared it with some media guys. She snitched on me and kept my marital secret at risk. I thought there is no point trying to see if it would work. Fighting to make it work and keep the storm secret was just too much for me. I chose this November trip to London to make the announcement before they misinform people by half baked story that hurts really”.

Yomi Fabiyi blamed the long distance between them as the main reason the 4-year-old marriage could not work.

3 Nigerians arrested in Australia after a $15m drug bust

drug-burst

Three Nigerian nationals have been arrested and approximately 26.1kg of methamphetamine seized following a joint operation between the Australian Federal Police (AFP), Australian Border Force (ABF) and Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC).

The arrest followed the interception of three consignments containing 180 tins of liquid glue, originating from Mexico by ABF officials in October this year.

Operation Shepody began after these three consignments were referred to the AFP for investigation. An examination of the consignments, located a total of approximately 180L of methamphetamine mixed into the industrial glue. The illicit drugs have an estimated street value of $15.6 million.

On 13 October, the AFP conducted a controlled delivery of the consignments to an address in Edgecliff, NSW. A 45-year-old Auburn man, a 41-year-old Miranda man and a 49-year-old Pendle Hill man were subsequently arrested on Thursday 24 November, after the AFP executed a number of search warrants in Auburn, Pendle Hill and Miranda.

AFP acting Assistant Commissioner Chris Sheehan, National Manager Crime Operations, said the AFP’s cooperation with its partner law enforcement agencies has never been stronger, both within Australia and overseas.

“Working with our partners, the AFP has arrested three men and stopped almost $16 million worth of a very harmful substance making its way into the Australian community. Law enforcement agencies will continue to work together to target those who believe they are above the law,” AFP acting Assistant Commissioner Sheehan said.

“My message to those contemplating bringing these dangerous drugs into our country is that you will get caught, regardless of how creative your concealment method,” he said.

ABF Assistant Commissioner Investigations Wayne Buchhorn said the successful resolution to this operation was evidence of the excellent work of law enforcement agencies and the ABF’s layered approach to border security.

Our highly skilled officers are at the border 24-hours a day, 365-days a year to detect and deter harmful illicit substances before they reach our shores,” Assistant Commissioner Buchhorn said.

ACIC Executive Director Intelligence Col Blanch said the ACIC has assessed that methamphetamine poses, by far, the greatest threat to the Australian public of all illicit drug types, and by a significant margin.

“The ACIC is committed to working with our partners, to discover, understand and respond to the threat that methamphetamine poses to our community,” Mr Blanch said.

Two of the men appeared before Sydney Central Local Court on Friday. 25 November. The third male will appear before Court at a later date.

Pastor believed to have brought MMM to Nigeria says he has never met Mavrodi

ernest-mmm1

Pastor Ernest Mbanefo believed to be behind the popular money doubling scheme known as MMM, has denied the allegations against him, stating that he has never met with the founder of the scheme in person.

Pastor Mbanefo, according to reports on Friday, December 2, had been quoted as the Nigerian founder of the ponzi scheme, with the Nigerian Communication Week (NWC) reportedly stating that he registered the scheme as MMM-Nigeria.net on June 7, 2016.

The South Africa-based clergyman has now cleared his head from the whole issue, saying he was neither the founder, nor has he met with Sergei Mavrodi, believed to be the Russian who founded the scheme.

“I do not own MMM Nigeria. The original website of MMM Nigeria is nigeria-mmm.net.

“All I’ve done is to use my knowledge of web designing to launch mmm-nigeria.net,” Pastor Mbanefo said, adding that “I have never met Sergei Mavrodi before. Mavrodi does not not even know about my activities in the MMM programme.”

Meanwhile, media reports about the crash of the website of one of the ponzi schemes in Nigeria, Ultimate Cycler, has unsettled Nigerians who have invested their money in MMM.

The Ultimate Cycler acclaimed popularity among Nigerians following its promise to pay 300% return to its investors within 45 days.

The huge return on investment offered by the scheme lured many to join it with some even abandoning MMM Nigeria which offers 30% returns on investment.

But as reports filtered in on Thursday morning, December 2, around 10.30am that the site had crashed, a wild wave of panic was visible among Nigerians who have patronize similar schemes.

“6 Things You Should Never Eat Prior To A First Date”

Preparing for a date? First date? I hope you havent eaten any of these yet.

1. Cabbage:

Girls love salad because it’s healthy and yummy. Telling your date you had salad at lunch may seem like a good idea because it makes you look health-conscious but you should NEVER have salad at lunch, especially not when you have a date later in the day.

Your breath will smell so bad and you can be almost certain of never ever getting the opportunity of a second date.

2. Garlic:

There’s no special skill required to recognize the stench of garlic. Normal humans can smell garlic from as far as 5 miles(just kidding).

But seriously, garlic is notorious for invading your bloodstream and fighting it’s way through your pores.

So not only should you not eat garlic prior to your date, you shouldn’t even eat it 3 days to your big day just to make sure your date doesn’t ask if you’re allergic to deodorants.

Nigerian footballer, Izu, who was shot dead by soldiers buried amidst tears (photos)

baller-0

The remains of footballer, Joseph Izu, was laid to rest at his hometown in Okarki village in Rivers State today December 3rd.

The grieving parents of the slain Shooting Stars defender, Izu Joseph, Mr & Mrs George Joseph, have joined others to call on the Federal Government to bring the killers of their son to books.

The calls came shortly after the burial rites of the player whose life was cut short by the bullets of armed security personnel in Okarki area of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on 16th, October, 2016.

It was indeed a free flow of tears, wailings and teeth gnashing when the body arrived at the burial site and a complete shut down of activities on all the streets passed by the long convoy.

In his sermon by the grave side, Rev. Father John said everyone comes from dust and to dust we shall return! He admonished people to live Lord dominated life with total dedication, reminding everyone to brace up as death would come unannounced. He later prayed to God to hold the family together at this time of grief.

Reacting shortly after the interment, Shooting Stars’ Akinwumi Akinyele described Izu Joseph as a committed player who is already being missed by the club.He called on the appropriate authority to act fast at bringing the killers to justice.

Also, toeing the same line was the General Secretary of the Ijaw National Congress, Victor Butubo who believes the Federal Government should not turn deaf ears as Izu’s killing is already a dent on its image.

Responding few minutes later in his residence, Pa George Joseph said he is only interested in getting justice for his son but frown at perceived lopsidedness in the posting of security personnel to Niger Delta areas!

“I only need justice for my son.And I should say this too, the policy of posting particular ethnic group in the Army to Niger Delta is not good for the unity of the country”, he concludes.

Family donates funds Nigerians raised to save their daughter’s life to charity after she died

After several months of sourcing for funds for the survival of their child, the Sam family has lost 13month-old Michelle Sam to Symptomatic Heart Disease.

Michelle was suffering from several heart conditions that lay undetected until she fell sick and was diagnosed of Symptomatic Heart Disease last April.

Later on, the family cried out for help of N6m from the general public for a heart surgery in India. Luckily for them, they met the target and preparation started for the family to fly out the little girl out of the country to begin her treatment.

However, the family was told the chances of Michelle surviving the surgery is very slim.

This prompted the father to channel his search to several American hospitals.

But unfortunately, the surgery could cost them from 30 to 40million Naira as against the initial cost of 6million in India.

In preparation for the America surgery, the family have to travel to Ghana to rerun some test before setting off to America for her treatment.

The consultants however, cut short their plans when, they were told, the hospital waiting list is too long for her to have the procedure in time, so her parents put all their efforts into raising money for a private operation to save their daughter’s life at the National Hospital in Abuja.

The mother said she knows other patients have been waiting a year for treatment, but Michelle can’t wait that long.

Mrs Sam said her baby was always in and out of hospital and was prone to a lot of infections.

She also disclosed that the pressure was already tough on the family, who desperately did not want to lose their daughter.

She said:

‘I have collapsed two times in hospital because of the stress, and have had to have counselling to help me deal with things. My husband had to be strong for the family and continue working as I’ve been off work for the last couple of months, looking after Michelle.

‘All I wanted was to help my baby, more than anything else in this world.’

Fast forward to November 15, the surgery was successfully carried out in Hospital for Humanity in Abuja by league of American doctors who were concerned about Michelle health and flew down to Nigeria for the surgery.

The joy of seeing their child recuperating was cut short on November 28, when 13 months old Michelle couldn’t bear the pain any longer and succumbed to death.

However, the left over proceeds from the donations from well meaning Nigerians has been used to set up a foundation in the name of Michelle Sam to help others going through the same predicament overcome it at early stage.

The family had also donated massively for another patient suffering from Heart surgery in Abuja few days after losing their own daughter.

Symptomatic Heart Disease is a birth defect of the heart in which there are holes between chambers of the heart, and the valves that control the flow of blood between these chambers may not be formed correctly.

This means that blood flows where it normally should not be able to, and extra blood flows to the lungs.

Cross River civil servants blast Gov. Ayade for paying their salaries too early

ayade1

Civil servants in Cross River State on Friday condemned the decision of the state governor, Ben Ayade, to pay their December salary on the first day of the month.

Our correspondent learned that some civil servants had on December 1 received alerts for the month’s salary, as against the 25th of every month.

It would be the second time that workers would be receiving salaries on the first day of the month as they had in May 2016 got a similar gesture from the governor in commemoration of the Workers’ Day celebration.

The aggrieved workers said the decision to pay their salaries in advance would later cause untold hardship as the Yuletide approaches.

A top civil servant in the Ministry of Environment, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “The state government’s decision to pay December salaries of some civil servants within the first three days of the month will make us suffer in due course.

“The government should have employed caution by delaying December salary payments to a later date. Our governor may want to score a political point with this payment, but I think that those of us receiving this money stand to lose fiscally when January comes.”

But one of the governor’s aides, who pleaded anonymity, said the workers should applaud the governor instead of complaining.

The source said, “People are so impossible to please. There are states in this country where salaries are not paid as and when due, but in Cross River State, our governor pays salaries and even pays ahead to cater for special occasions like the Workers’ Day and this Yuletide.

“Instead of applauding him, some people say he shouldn’t have paid. Nigerians are difficult to please.”
