pray-for-us

Mark Angel and Emmanuella are hilarious duo making waves in the entertainment industry.

The young, online comedians open up to TS Weekend about their career, challenges and future expectations.

Could you tell us your names?
Emmanuella: My name is Samuel Emmanuella
Mark: My name is Mark Angel. That is my real name, not just a stage name even though I used to bear Ebere. Mark Angel is my real name.

Okay, Mark Angel, tell us about your family background?
Mark: The background of my family is bush, bush, bush…

How do you mean?
Mark: I grew up in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. I come from a small family of three kids, with my parents.

How did you start up in the entertainment industry?
Mark: I dropped out of school and went to learn photography.

Why did you drop out?
Mark: I dropped out due to financial issues, and moreover, I didn’t want to study Medicine because my aunt wanted me to be a medical doctor. So, I left for photography, and from there, I went into Nollywood business, working as an MC at events. Soon, I started shooting movies with Denilson Igwe. That was how we started.

How did Emmanuella come into the scene?
Mark: Emmanuella happened to be one of the kids I was always with. There was this day we wanted to do a comedy which would require kids. So, we thought of using kids and it wasn’t playing out well. We were trying to play Mr Bee’s characters because I used to act as a clown at events. One day, we were rehearsing for a stage drama when Emmanuella, who usually came around to watch and sometimes joined in the voice training for laughter, suddenly picked interest. Someone was acting and she (Emmanuella) said she could do it. It was like she could do it better and we allowed her to do it, and when she did it, we saw that she is good and only needed training, but then, she was still very small.

How old are you Emmanuella?
Emmanuella: I am six-years-old.

Can you tell us why you like acting?
Emmanuella: I like to make people laugh and make them forget their sorrows.

Has there ever been a time someone came to you and talked about what you are doing?
Emmanuella: Yes, there was this day my friend in school told me that she likes the way I act. Her name is Love. I felt happy when she told me that.

How have you been coping with school and comedy? Is acting not affecting your studies?
Emmanuella: It is not affecting my studies. I try to cope and I am doing well in both.

What do you want to be in future?
Emmanuella: I want to be an actress and also a fashion designer.

How was the experience when you had your first stand-up comedy?
Emmanuella: I felt excited and happy. I wasn’t shy because that is not possible. I can never be shy.

How are your siblings?
Emmanuella: They are doing fine.

What your position in the family?
Emmanuella: I am the last born of the family.

Since you dropped out of school, have you ever felt like going back?
Mark: I want to go back to school to study Business or anything related to security.

Now that we know your brand as skits, what should your fans expect from you in the nearest future?

Mark: It depends on what you want. Skits may stop for a while and we are working on our movie. Apart from that, there are so many things we have been doing. It is a happy industry.

Emmanuella, how did you feel when the Igbinedion family hosted you to an in-house party in Abuja?
Emmanuella: I felt very happy.

Do you hope to meet with President Buhari one day?
Emmanuella: Yes, I will be happy to meet him because I have been eager to talk to him to reduce the price of fuel.

You said you want to be an actress, who is your role model, I mean the actress you want to be like?
Emmanuella: I like aunty Mercy Johnson that acted Dumebi and aunty Chioma Chukwuka. I like the way they act.

In the comedy industry, who do you like most?
Emmanuella: I like uncle AY and uncle Basket Mouth.

What is your best subject in school?
Emmanuella: I like Mathematics and English.

Since you came to Lagos, what challenges have you been facing?
Mark: We are a brand coming from the digital background. It has not been easy digging into the industrial environment. It is the challenge of how to do a bigger production because we need money to get results. It has also been difficult convincing people to invest in us and have confidence in us. Another challenge is that, we usually stay in our house, make a no-budget video and send it on-air, and it gains acceptance. But now, we are moving to budget-based projects. You have to make the right connection and move from your house. We need money to do bigger productions. Even as I speak, Denilson is about to quit his job because the game has gone too far, and for him to devote more time.

Will it be right to quote you that you are broke and need sponsors?
Mark: Yes, we need sponsors, basically partnership. A lot of projects are just lying there wasting. It is hard to convince people.

When last did you see your mummy?
Emmanuella: A day to my birthday and that was July 21. I am missing her.

Tell us about one naughty thing you did that made your mummy beat you?
Emmanuella: Ask my uncle (Mark Angel). I can’t remember.

Mark: I can only tell the day I beat her. That was not too long ago. She poured popcorn all over the room, and I had warned her about that.

What is your overall assessment of the Nigerian entertainment industry?
Mark: It is growing too fast; so fast that if you are not awake, you will be left behind, and one morning, you’ll wake up and see that it is not beside you anymore. It is a proactive industry and so unpredictable that we have to always be at the edge and guide against being pushed off. Again, it is a competitive industry but we aren’t out to compete with anybody. We are just on our own line to make people happy and do our thing. They want us to dress as celebrities, come out of a big car, if not, they won’t talk to you. Anyway, we are learning.

What do you want to tell your fans?
Emmanuella: I want to say a big thank you for loving, watching me and also loving and accepting Mark Angel.

A victim of sexual abuse in the hands of her estranged husband has taken to Facebook to vent her anger after exposing the man’s dirty shenanigans. She alleged that the husband has been sexually abusing her and beating her to the extent that he blackmailed and extorted her money. The woman’s revelation has put into question the status of her husband who is said to be a pastor.

Princess Oritsema Ekwejunor wrote:

“Mr Omasan Mabiaku marriage is not by force I have left you over a month due to your constant violence, torture but this is the end; you pretend to the world you are a pastor only because you are now broke, election is over and the aspirant you blackmailed and duped is no longer there for your extortion.

You lavished money buying cars and impregnating 16-year-old girls. I married you with just two children now you gave me extra 6. As I am talking right now your Turkey Baby Mama is 7-months pregnant. Imagine using soldiers to beat me up and tore my clothes at Tima Guest house like a criminal, a harmless woman and arrested me because you think you are the owner of police station.

You raped me at a tender age of 16 where I lost my virginity to you. I am not perfect I wanted to build a home with you and straighten your life, I never knew that was my unforgettable mistake. I find it difficult to understand why whenever I get pregnant and I get you informed I always get miscarriages.

Your evil deeds has virtually made me enemies with everyone and people plot evil against me just because I am your WIFE! You bribe pastors so they can hide your evil deeds. I recorded a conversation of you having sex talk with one of your church girls and now you ended up framing me so I can be the victim.

Princess Oritsema Ekwejunor

You secretly slept and had an affair with my best friend, you bought a car black evil spirit and opened a shop somewhere at shell road for her. When even the car I drive posing as a big man’s wife is not bought with my name. People think I am enjoying but hell no!

I fend for myself. The South Africa trips were all arrangements I did on my own where you later applied for yours just because you are obsessed with me. I told you I am fed up I don’t need this hell life I’m living as marriage. If we were in the western country will you beat up a woman like this?

You think you are God but I will prove to you my God lives. If I have been a bad wife let God judge and if I have been a good wife and took care of your kids of 17 all grown up like me let God judge”. I might not have anybody to stand for me but God will fight for me.

Soon I will upload the audio of your conversation between you and underage girls having phone sex. Let the world hear the pretence of wolf in sheep clothing! Say no to domestic violence!”

We believe there’s a Bobrisky in everyone. Here are our seven reasons why.

Ugandans to Start Paying to Listen to Radio

paying

As part of the ongoing digital migration process, Ugandans are set to start paying to listen to radios, the way it is with televisions, Chimpreports has learnt.

Uganda officially migrated to digital from analogue in June last year, a process that requires TV set owners to purchase digital terrestrial decoders installed on their sets to receive digital signals.

Addressing broadcasters during the National Association of Broadcasters Annual General Meeting at Hotel Africana, Uganda Communications Commission Executive Director, Godfrey Mutabazi, said that in 2 years’ time, the country will move from analogue to digital radios.

“Two years from now, radio will also go digital .We shall have pay radios. We are still doing research together with Makerere and other Universities about the same issue but in 2 years it will be here,” Mutabazi said.

“There will be digital signals that these radio stations will have to pay for because whoever gets a license for signal distribution will demand something,” he added in an interview to Chimpreports.

Mutabazi cited that there are not so many people in Europe catching the stations like BBC free of charge apart from those in disadvantaged areas.

“In order to access that signal, you must pay some money. We must understand that slowly free things are disappearing.”

Emphasis

The UCC boss said digital migration is a technology that must be accepted by everyone, and that there are no shortcuts.

“There was a time we had Short Wave and when we migrated to Frequency Modulation, people never complained of it. People didn’t say anything about the migration. Why now talk ill of digital migration, something we have been working on for the last 10 years?”

Mutabazi said digital migration was conducted properly according to the law, stressing it must be done and complied with by all people.

He noted that these directives originate from Geneva and UN member countries which are expected to implement them and that as a member of the Northern Corridor Integration body, Uganda cannot sit and watch.

“For you to have a radio set or television, you have to be rich and buy it. It then makes no sense when you say you want a free signal,”Mutabazi wondered.

When your man cheats on you..don’t leave him, forgive him – Nollywood actress, Hilda Dokubo

hilda1

Veteran Nollywood actress, Hilda Dokubo has shared a piece of her mind on the best ways to manage marriages and relationships in general.

Based on the rate at which marriages break nowadays, the actress has noted that the best way to keep a home intact is by forgiveness, loving the home and self-love.

When asked if catching the man cheating was reason enough to walk out of the marriage, the veteran actress turned minister of God said in such a situation, the woman needs to forgive the man the same way God has been forgives daily for sins committed.

“You know I’m a Christian, I’m born again, and I’m a minister so no ground is good enough. The Bible charges a man to love his wife as God loves the church. God has not abandoned us because of our sins, even when He caught us red-handed. He still loves us; He’s still giving us the best of help,” she said.

According to Hilda said the only deal breaker in marriage is when it becomes severely abusive.

Hilda Dokubo has been active in the movie industry since 1992 and has starred in hundreds of movies where she is known to be easily brought to tears in her mostly melancholic roles.

She has been married for 30 years and sometimes share tips on relationships and life in general.

Jilted Man Commits Suicide With “Otapiapia” After Girlfriend Dumps Him.

Dies of hanging

A man in his mid-30s, identified as Godwin, weekend, brought his own life to an early end at Kabayi, Mararaba, near Abuja. Reason: His wife allegedly jilted him. His relations, friends and neighbours are still shocked by the development.

An investigation revealed that the victim, from Cross River State, lost his first wife sometimes ago and thereafter got hooked to the latest one who, he claimed, her uncaring behaviour made him to drink a poisonous substance called Otapiapia, Daily Trust reports.

Findings showed that after being with the new lover for some time, things suddenly turned sour and the lady dumped him and went back to her former boyfriend.

Close sources to the victim said he became depressed with the situation and headed to the lady’s apartment and informed her that if anything happened to him, she would be held responsible.

“Initially nobody thought he was serious,” one of the man’s relations said. “Even the lady thought he was joking. But we were all shocked to hear that he drank Otapiapia.

“He was not lucky as all efforts to save him proved abortive. He was given palm oil to drink and vomit the poison but it did not work. We rushed him to a nearby hospital where the doctor and other medical workers battled unsuccessfully to save him.”

One of the residents, who spoke to the City News in confidence, expressed his surprise, saying: “Could you believe that he called many friends and relations earlier on that fateful day to inform them that he was embarking on a very far journey?

“He even visited various joints in the area before going back home later to take enough dose of Otapiapia. It’s very unfortunate. Nobody should take his or her own life under any circumstance.”

The source, said the corpse was taken to the village by some of the late man’s relations.

Commenting on the incident, a senior security agent in the area, who craved anonymity, described suicide as an abominable act and crime, warning people to shun it in their own interest.

Our reporter gathered that the incident was not reported to the police because the deceased person’s relations said there was no need to do that.

Mark Zuckerberg And His Wife, Priscilla Pledge $3bn To Wipe Out All Disease In 80 Years.

mark-zuckerberg-wipe-all-disease2

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has a goal that’s even more ambitious than connecting the entire world to the internet: He and his wife want to help eradicate all diseases in the world by the end of this century.

Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan are committing $3 billion over the next 10 years to accelerate basic scientific research, including the creation of research tools — from software to hardware to yet-undiscovered techniques — they hope will ultimately lead to scientific breakthroughs, the way the microscope and DNA sequencing have in generations past.

The goal, which they are unlikely to live to see accomplished, is to ‘cure, prevent or manage all disease‘ in the next 80 or so years.

mark-zuckerberg-wipe-all-disease1

They acknowledge that this might sound a crazy, but point to how far medicine and science have
come in the last century — with vaccines, statins for heart disease, chemotherapy, and so on — following millennia with little progress.

‘So if you even just assume that we’ll be able to continue to make progress on that same trajectory, then that implies that by the end of this century we will have been able to solve most of these types of things,’ Zuckerberg said in an interview.

He and Chan have spent the past two years speaking to scientists and other experts to plan the endeavor. He emphasized ‘that this isn’t something where we just read a book and decided we’re going to do.

Chan’s work as a pediatrician seems to be a big driver in their couple’s decision to take up this latest cause.

mark-zuckerberg-wipe-all-disease

‘I’ve been with families where we’ve hit the limit of what’s possible through medicine and science,’ Chan said. ‘I’ve had to tell families devastating diagnoses of leukemia, or that we just weren’t able to resuscitate their child.’

The couple spoke with The Associated Press in their home in Palo Alto, California, where their infant daughter, Max, had just woken from a nap. Their dog, Beast, came by to sit briefly during the 25-minute interview.

Zuckerberg and Chan hope that their effort will inspire other far-reaching efforts and collaboration in science, medicine and engineering, so that basic research is no longer relegated to the margins.

‘We spend 50 times more on health care treating people who are sick than we spend on science research (to cure) diseases so that people don’t get sick in the first place,’ Zuckerberg said.

Eric Lander, a professor of biology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and director of the Broad Institute at MIT and Harvard, said he’s had some 20 conversations with Zuckerberg and Chan over the past year about the initiative and called their goal ‘the right kind of goal for thinking about that kind of timeframe.

Blogger Allegedly Shot Dead By Police In Port Harcourt

blogger-shot-dead-0

Here’s a story of a blogger, Chukwuebuka Isidore who was shot dead by the Nigerian Police. Read below as narrated by Barry Festus.

It was just on Sunday, 18th September, 2016 that we met unexpectedly for the first time ever and talked about an official link up sometime soon and in his words “This soon no go too soon” but too bad he’s gone too soon.

The news about his death came from a reliable source to our doorstep at about 3pm today, 21st September, 2016 (exactly 3days after our first meeting).

According to sources, he was shot by the police when he tried to evade their sight somewhere around Azikiwe, mile 2 diobu Port Harcourt where he was seen smoking with a group of friends and they were surrounded by the cops.

Now I wonder why the police that’s supposed to protect life and properties would be so hasty to take one’s life. If I’m asked why who would I ask??

Rest well bro, Chukwuebuka Isidore AKA Ghostmood.

I Teach Maths Like A Church Sermon – Nigerian Mathematics Teacher.

mrs-essien-bassey

Mrs. Essien Bassey, a Mathematics teacher at Pegasus High School, Eket, Akwa Ibom State has disclosed that her method of “preaching mathematics like a church sermon” has helped greatly in sustaining the interest of her students in the subject.

Bassey who accompanied her student to the venue of the on-going 2016 Cowbellpedia Mathematics Television Quiz Show in Lagos explained that mathematics is a subject that requires a lot of emotions on the part of the teacher, and on the part of the students.

“I have found out that Mathematics, like religion requires a lot of emotions; and since I discovered this, I have changed my tactics. Now I preach Mathematics; I don’t teach it. The bible is full of parables which Jesus used to illustrate his teachings that appeared difficult to his followers. The parables simplify the stories and consequently connect to the emotions of the listeners. The same I do in my class and it is working,” she told journalists outside the studio.

She maintained that Mathematics is an emotional subject that should be taught with a lot of conviction, to achieve short and long term objectives.

“The short term goal is for the students to pick enough interest to pass the subject, while the long term goal, for me is to convert the students to great mathematicians,” Bassey who has been teaching mathematics for the past thirteen years, said.

“I believe the song and video became an instant hit because it is very catchy and infectious and because it is something new. There is no other song out there like ‘Nigerian Pussy’ and there will never be. I also think people were surprised by the boldness of the lyrics. I feel very thankful for its success because I never expected it to blow to this level. The response has been overwhelming and I want to thank all my supporters and fans, and my mentors including Olamide and MI Abaga.”

Probed further about what she was thinking before doing a song about the privates of Nigerian women of all things she could sing about, she said,

“Nigerian Pussy was inspired by a conversation that I had with a guy in a club late one night. Without getting into too much detail, we spoke about all the different kitty cat’s that he had sampled and he confessed that Nigerian kitty is the tightest.

After a bit of research and asking around I concluded that he was correct and so I was freestyling in the studio one day and the idea popped into my head and that is how the song came along. I sang the song from the experience of my own assets and from what I hear other people say. Everyone knows Naija kitty is the tightest. It is no secret.

“My parents are not a huge fan of the song. When it first came out everyone in my family begged me to delete the video. But I think they understand now that I am an artist and that I have to be creative in order to stand out,” Princess Vitarah added.

Yoruba Actor, Pa Kasunmu Falls Sick Again as Eyes Begin to See ‘Double’

kasunmu

Popular Nollywood actor, Kayode Odumosu, aka. Pa Kasunmu, has fallen ill again.

This time, the actor’s condition is so serious that members of his family have moved him from his home in Abeokuta to his elder sister’s residence at Aseese, an Ogun community situated off the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Looking quite emaciated and frail when a Punch correspondent paid him a visit on Wednesday, Odumosu admitted that his health worsened shortly after returning from India, where he had gone to receive treatment for a heart-related ailment that also affected his eyesight and memory, in 2015.

“I spent just nine days in India. I thought that I would receive full treatment. But when I had got there, they told me that it was for evaluation. Then they asked me to come back after two months.

“Later, after I had recovered from the illness, I started thinking about how to get funds for my second journey to India. But I couldn’t find my international passport and that of the nurse that accompanied me on the first trip,” he said.

He said that, along the line, he was invited by fellow Thespian, Tunji Bamishigbin, to take part in the shooting of a new movie in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State in the same year.

Although Odumosu really did not want to appear in a movie anymore until he had gone back to India for proper treatment, he said he was tempted into accepting another invitation to participate in a movie shoot in the Ikorodu area of Lagos about three months ago.

Asked if he was supposed to feature in a movie, while recuperating from the ailment, he replied, “Not really. But, you know that when it comes to something you know, you will want to do it. In fact, the coordinator of the last movie shoot I attended didn’t want me to get involved at all.”

Odumosu also admitted that his vision has gone bad again. “I see double and images are always blurred,” he said, adding that his eyes were not this bad two years ago.

The actor wishes that he could obtain a new passport and return to India to be properly treated. His nephew, Oluwaseyi Olorode, told a correspondent that the family decided to bring him to Aseese after he was abandoned in his Abeokuta home by a lady who was hired to care for him.

“When we brought him here, he could barely stand on his feet or go to the bathroom without being guided,” Olorode said.

Aliko Dangote Plans to Buy Arsenal in Four Years

dangote

Aliko Dangote, Africa/Nigeria’s richest man, has clearly re-stated his plans to buy London-based professional football club ‘Arsenal’, in four years time.

In an interview with Bloomberg TV in New York on Wednesday, Dangote stated that there’s no doubt he’ll buy Arsenal and it’s not a problem of money.

“Maybe three to four years. The issue is that we have more challenging headwinds. I need to get those out the way first and start having tailwinds. Then I’ll focus on this.”

Dangote, reportedly worth around £8.3billion, announced his intention to buy Arsenal last year.

But his business prospects needs to improve and investments in gas pipelines/oil refinery have to to pay off before making the expensive acquisition.

“It’s not about buying Arsenal and just continuing with business as usual,” he said. “It’s about buying Arsenal and turning it around. I’ve run a very successful business and I think I can also run a very successful team. Right now, with what we’re facing, over $20 billion of projects, I cannot do both.”

Please Advise: “I’ve been married to my husband for 18years with no child, my in-laws put me through hell”

“My name is Maria. I am a 38-year-old woman and have been married for 18 years without a child and this is really causing serious heartaches for me.

My husband’s family, especially his mother and sisters have made my life so miserable that at times, I contemplate committing suicide.

My husband, Daniel, has not helped matters as he has stopped defending me and has also given me an ultimatum to give him a child or he would send me packing from his house, a house I contributed to building.

I got married to Dan when I was just 20 and we had planned to have four children in quick succession so as to have ample time to take care of them.

But after two years and the babies refused to come, I began to worry but Daniel was always telling me not to worryas he was sure nothing was wrong with us.

But after five years, I became frenetic and went to many hospitals, fertility clinics, and churches to seek for a solution. In all of these, the tests showed there was nothing wrong with me and that I should just be patient and not stress myself with worries.

Then came my in-laws who started asking questions. My mother-in-law, in particular, was not making life easy for me as she used every opportunity to insinuate that she is yet to taste the joy of being a grandmother, even though three of her married daughters have children of their own.

But for her, she will be fulfilled when her son gave her grandchildren. Now, they are all blaming me for not bearing a child for their son as if I am God who gives children.

My husband’s sisters, on the other hand, have been telling him to get another wife and the eldest has even gone as far as matchmaking him with some other women.

I am really at my wit’s end and if I do not find a solution fast, I may just end up killing myself.

Maria.”
