A Bag of Rice May Sell for N40,000 by December – Minister Reveals

Bag-of-rice

Trouble looms in the land as the the Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, has revealed that a bag of rice may sell for N40,000 by December.

He also stated that Nigeria spends about $22bn a year on importation of food.

Lokpobiri made the revelation on Saturday at a town hall meeting in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

Lokpobiri said,

“For your information, we spend about $22bn a year importing food into Nigeria. We know how many more dollars … and that is why you see the price of rice going up.

“Price of rice was N12,000 some months ago, but it is now about N26,000 and if we don’t start producing, by December it could be N40,000.

“Rice matures in three months. So, this is a wake up call for Bayelsa people to take the four farms we have seriously. The federal government has four farms in the state in our records. The average land you see in Bayelsa can grow rice, so the colonial masters were not wrong in their assessment when they said Niger Delta could feed not only Nigeria but the entire West Africa sub-region.

“Unfortunately, agriculture till today, is not a priority of the Niger Delta as far as the state governments are concerned because of oil.”

This means the hardship in the land will continue as many have already been left hungry and starving since the beginning of this year.

4 reasons women cheat

Let’s face it: cheating has always been about searching for something one lacks. The society remains oblivious of the uncourteous behaviour of the many men who cheat invariably every day.

Women who cheat are branded as the devil’s agents, regardless of whether their reasons are ‘legitimate.’
Yes, legitimate.

Below are 4 legitimate reasons women cheat.

When the sex is repetitive

black-couple-argue

Repetition of the same sex position, in the same environment, makes the sexual encounter boring; it sucks the juice out of the act.

Couples can revive their sex life by subscribing to some variety in sexual positions.

Out of the box locations are also definitely a great way to spice things up and create some awesome memories.

Having a sexual encounter in a new location gets your adrenaline pumping, which helps you get even more aroused than usual, making those thrilling experiences unforgettable.

Revenge

black-couple

Some women find it difficult to forgive after being cheated. For those of you who have been cheated on, you know how awful it feels: you feel deceived, hurt, angry, sad and even violated. It also affects your self-esteem.

The very moment you find out that your man has cheated, your whole body begins to shake, you begin to sweat, your stomach drops, and you feel nauseated.

The pain and betrayal you feel can inspire infidelity. Cheating then becomes a solution.

But the biggest truth is that cheating never solves a relationship problem. Communication, assertiveness and increasing passion and romance are much better solutions.

Wrath Of God Will Visit Children & Grandchildren Of Corrupt Politicians – Ex CAN Boss

mbang

Former Prelate of the Methodist Church and one time President of the Christian Association of Nigeria CAN, Prelate Sunday Mbang, has said that the wrath of God will visit the children and grand children of corrupt politicians who steal from the treasury just to benefit themselves and their families. The clergy man who recently turned 80 years old, said this in a recent interview with Tribune.

“In Christianity, the Bible makes it clear that when you commit a crime, it is to the third and fourth generations. The belief with us is that they have allowed the grace of God in the New Testament to seem to have covered what is in the Old Testament – the wrath and love of God – which is also reflected in the New Testament. If you don’t repent of your sin, the wrath of God will fall upon you. People suffer in this country and what they would do is to explain it scientifically. I said it earlier that I made a prayer and someone died.

That death would be explained scientifically and so the main point would be clear to the people. The fact is that once you commit sin; once you loot public treasury; once you convert money belonging to the people for yourself and family, you will suffer, your children will suffer to the third and fourth generations. When these things happen, people explain them scientifically.

Nowadays if anything happens to someone, it would be blamed on either the brother, father or the mother, not knowing that God’s wrath might have fallen on the person. Every sin has punishment.

What I can tell our politicians is that all the sins they have committed – corruption, hatred, killings, kidnapping, false accusations – the wrath of the God will visit them one after the other to the third and fourth generations. My prayer is that all those seeking political appointments, because the earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, God is the owner of the earth. He is not an absentee landlord. He is interested in this world. So when you come and do whatever you feel like, don’t think God does not see it. He sees everything we do and He gives us the grace for what we have done right and punishment, for our wrongs.

AIT Presenter, Gbenga Aruleba Writes Moving Tribute to His 13-year-old Late Daughter (Photos)

rere

After the sudden death of his priced angel, child and daughter, Gbenga Aruleba of Africa Independent Television (AIT) has written a touching tribute in his late daughter’s honour.

Gbenga

Read below;

TRIBUTE TO MY GUARDIAN ANGEL, MY PRECIOUS JEWEL, MY FRIEND, MY JOY, MY COMFORTER, AND THE ONLY ONE WHO CALLED ME, “MY DADDY”, OUT OF THREE CHILDREN, RERELOLUWA APOTIERI OLUWAFIFUNMI DEBORAH ARULEBA, August 27, 2003 – August 28, 2016.

Finally, after two weeks of grief, loud yells when those who know her come calling on condolence visits, shrill, silent sobs which would then grow louder and attract attention, I now have the emotional stability and composure to NOT ONLY pay a tribute to you, My darling Angel, BUT to also express immense gratitude to the too numerous friends, relations, pastors, fellow church members, colleagues of my wife and I, way back in our days as boyfriend and girlfriend in the “80’s in Radio Lagos And Lagos Television, colleagues at DAAR Communications and the media generally, Management and teachers of Rere from Peaklane College, Senior and highly placed government officials, Senators , HoR members, Governors and indeed just mere acquaintances.

First, I like to pray that NONE of you will Ever experience the trauma of seeing a LOVED child die in your hands, as i did, and as i know, many of you who have travelled this road did. I pray that only things of JOY will be celebrated in our households. Rereloluwa was ( i hate to refer to her in the past tense) indeed a COVENANT Child.

The circumstances of her birth made her so. She was my 4th child, the 3rd, a boy, had been a still birth, had died in the womb for over 24 hours, according to the family doctor, and the logical, medical procedure was evacuation thru caesarian, but MIRACULOUSLY, he was delivered after my wife went into labour. But we had made a vow to have three children but then, the delay began until God made Good HIs Covenant to us to bless us. What better names to give Her than RERELOLUWA, meaning God is Good.

Right from when she could utter the first words, Rere would call me “My Daddy” , not just daddy, and i call her my Baby, Rerestic, and as she grew, she acquired other appellations like Rubu, (given to her by her elder sister, Tobiloba) For 13 years, Rereloluwa changed our lives in the family, always a mediator and conciliator . She knew when the mum was “beefing” “my Daddy” and she would call me from her room to leak the information, and would even tell me how, when and what to say or do when i call ‘mummy’.

Rere was loved by all, her friends, her teachers both in school and in church. Whenever we travelled for holidays, Rere’s shopping will be for friends, and she would then come back to me that mummy has not bought anything for her and i should shop for her, thus causing “friction” with mummy who would be jealous thatIi spent more money on a “small girl” than her, my WIFE.

Rere could read me like a book. She knew when am happy and would gist with me on everything, she knew when my mood is bad, and would just slipped into the bed, and gently ask, “Daddy, are you ok? Do you want anything? Do you want tea? Is is mummy? Do you want to be alone? Rere would NOT leave me until she had changed the situation. Now friends, you understand why am still grieving over MY LOSS.

My Rere left a void in my life. But i know SHE IS RESTING WITH THE LORD. Let me take a break now, because the emotions are welling up again. Part Two will be a tribute and thank you to all those million helping hands that have been holding us up as a family. For now, let me relieve this emotion, a bit.

“I Spent £30,000 On Players At Rio” – Mikel Finally Opens Up

0

Super Eagles Captain and Chelsea Midfielder, John Mikel bi has revealed he paid money to save dream team at the Rio Olympics in a new interview with Goal.com. This comes after Sports Minister, Solomon Dalung debunked rumours of any payment by the player.

1

“I think if we talk about the money that I put into the team I think it was more than [£30,000],” Mikel told Goal. “But we just had to do it.

“I said to myself, ‘I won’t let this happen. If I can help, I’ll try to help’. Sometimes there was no food, sometimes there was no pitch to train on, there was no bus to go to the training ground. So all of this was what me and the coach had to figure out, and get money together.

“I came to the camp. I sat down with the boys in Atlanta and I could see the frustration, the pain and the anger. Their aim was to play in the Olympics, their goal was to play in the Olympics. And for me being there and seeing what they are going through, they are young boys, they want to start their career and someone in the ministry is trying to crush that dream,” he said.

I Believe in ‘Testing’ Before Marriage – Nollywood Actress Says

actress-queen-agbor-1

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Punch’s Sunday Scoop, Calabar-born Nollywood actress, Queeneth Agbor, who is popular for her movie, ‘Hooked’, and who in recent times has become one of the most talked about actresses in the movie industry, wondered why many people believe that Calabar girls are husband snatchers.

“I don’t think we (Calabar girls) are husband snatchers, but we know how to keep a man to ourselves. Some men don’t like food, so you might not be able to keep him through that, but men like it when a lady is clean and of course good in bed. A Calabar girl is a combination of all,” she said.

The graduate of Microbiology from the University of Calabar, who few weeks ago in an interview revealed that she did not get a role in a movie that had Tonto Dikeh, as lead actress, because she refused to sleep with the producer of the movie, believes in sex before marriage because people need to have a feel of what they would have to live with for the rest of their lives.

“You have to know your package, I am not saying just go into it anyhow but just test it. You need to know what you are going into, so you don’t start cheating on your spouse. Most marriages that break up are solely because of this issue. So I think it is important for you to know what you are getting into,” she told Punch.

Outrage over Oyakhilome’s marriage sermon

Chris-Oyakhilome1

The General Overseer of Christ Embassy, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, has come under strong criticism from Nigerians on social media over his religious views on gender equality.

A Facebook post on the official page of the church’s online ministry, last Sunday, cited an excerpt of the clergyman’s message titled ‘Who is a husband and what is his role?’, in which husbands were defined as “masters” as opposed to “male partners.”

Oyakhilome’s ex-wife, Anita, had on February 8, finalised her divorce from the pastor and dropped his last name for “Obhodaghe.”

Her lawyers confirmed the divorce earlier this year, following months of speculation that there was trouble in their marriage.

Anita, who had cited irreconcilable differences while filing for divorce, also severed ties with the church.

But Oyakhilome, in his message on Facebook, said the reason for most problems in Christian marriages was a refusal of God’s definition of marriage by women.

He said, “They believe they are equal partners. (But) ‘husband’ does not mean the male partner in a marriage, husband means master.

“The Bible says the man is the head of the woman (1 Corinthians 11:3) so when you marry him, you come under his authority. You are not authority sharers, even though you are both heirs to the kingdom of God.”

According to the pastor, when one decides not to subject oneself to that authority, one becomes a rebel.

“God is not going to accept what you are doing because you are not functioning correctly. Why did God make the woman? If most women had fathers bold enough to talk to them, they would be very successful in their marriage and they would be very happy people.

“Most women have never been taught by their parents, their fathers particularly and that’s their biggest problem because they don’t know who a man is. They think he is another woman,” he said.

The message went viral on many platforms.

Oyakhilome’s stance received backlash from some Nigerians, who expressed their disagreement in the comments section of the post.

Blessing Meteke said, “Unfortunately, this is the type of preaching that millions of Nigerians listen to. ‘Making a woman was not God’s original plan. When a husband is angry, the wife is the victim.’

“This is what men adhere to and they make their wives and daughters-in-law slaves in their own homes. Misogyny has eaten deep into several Nigerians and they use the Bible as a cover-up. This is not only disheartening but exasperating.”

Babalola Olusegun added, “Can the pastor explain Genesis 1:27, because looking at the passage, God put women in His plan even before creating them. The man should remember that the woman is removed from his ribs, which means the man is not complete without the woman.”

Jane Onyejiaka also said, “Some points in this sermon are flawed, with all due respect. I will never teach my sons that a woman is an afterthought. God doesn’t do things for doing sake. Anyway, he is a pastor, not God. I always sieve what I read and I take the good and leave the rest.”

Similarly, Ekaette Essien said, “I didn’t see any advice for men here. Making a successful home should not be a one-sided thing. It should not rest on the shoulder of only the women. A man who loves his wife will surely earn respect from such a wife.

“If you are a boss-type husband, surely rebellion awaits you. Let’s be real, please. Even God who created us does not act like a boss to us. He loves us; that’s why His children have to obey and respect Him.”

B-Red Opens Up on Alleged Beef with Davido, Mayorkun

B-Red-Davido-1

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Punch’s Sunday Scoop, Bayo Adeleke, aka B-Red, who is signed on with HKN Music label, and is also a cousin to multiple award-winning popstar, Davido, said he is happy at the pace of his growth.

Notwithstanding his average popularity in the industry, many music lovers have refused to acknowledge his talent. In fact, they are of the opinion that his days as an artiste are numbered.

Some music critics are disappointed that his career has not assumed a different dimension in spite of Davido and HKN’s influence. Despite the view of many, the heavily-tattooed musician says he is happy where he is.

“Knowing that God has a plan for everybody, I am comfortable with the unhurried pace. There was a time I didn’t have a car or a Rolex, but look at me now. Every year, I grow and I will get bigger, so I am not in a rush. I am okay and content,” he said.

B-Red who has also been accused of living under Davido’s shadow said there is no shame in leveraging on the star power of his cousin.

“In every group, you have a leader and I do not care about being number one as long as I am doing good, getting money and doing shows. Davido is number one and we follow but you never know, probably I’ll be as big as he is. If your cousin is a star, won’t you want to be a star too? I built my brand by hyping my cousin for four years and look at where I am now,” he said.

B-Red who is busy promoting his new EP released under HKN titled, “All The Way Up”, also denied leaving HKN. While rebutting the story, he confirmed he would be doing a collaboration with Mayorkun, whom many insinuated that he is envious of.

“There is no beef between me and Maryokun, we are hitting the studio soon and doing something together, I didn’t leave HKN and I am not leaving HKN. I even have the HKN tattooed on my body. My contract is very long. HKN is family and I am not leaving,” he stressed.

Acting Doesn’t Pay My Bills – Funke Adesiyan

funke

Popular Yoruba actress, Funke Adesiyan who is known for her luxurious lifestyle and contested in the last general elections at the Oyo State House of Assembly, in this new interview with Punch Spice, says acting doesn’t pay her bills but other things do. Here’s her discussion with Punch Spice….

Background

I’m from Ibadan, Oyo State but I grew up in Lagos. My family is a nuclear one even though I was surrounded by cousins, nephews and other relatives. I had a fun childhood and I was more of a tomboy. I played a lot of football and I am still in love with the game.

Acting

I started acting professionally in 2003. My first experience as an actor was a TV series by Wale Adenuga Productions. The first film I acted in was produced by me in 2006. It was my first, not because I didn’t get offers to partake in films produced by other people, but because I had the resources to produce my own film. Since the storyline was a beautiful one, I didn’t want to give it out to someone else. So far, I have produced three movies. The last one was in 2010. I then took a break to focus on my business.

Nollywood

I have also taken part in some English TV series. I did some with Segun Arinze and Paul Obazele. I’m limited to one part of the industry. Oftentimes, I’m not available and that’s why I haven’t starred in more English movies. It is not because I have been tagged a ‘Yoruba actress.’ In fact, a lot of people think Yoruba actresses don’t speak good English.

Politics

I love what I experienced and I’m still in politics. I decided to go to my hometown in Kudeti, Ibadan to impact lives. I contested for a seat in the Oyo State House of Assembly. Even though I didn’t win the election, I feel delighted that I won the love of the people.

Current project

Acting does not pay my bills and I try to be as real as possible. I’m working on my business which involves importing and selling of bathroom accessories. I do souvenirs and I am into animal husbandry. Very soon, I will add cash crops.

Marriage

I’m in a relationship and I’m happy in it. A lot of people are married and are not happy while some are single and are happy. People shouldn’t attach so much importance to marriage. Life is too short not to be happy. You don’t have to be married because the society expects you to.

“10 New Tricks Kidnappers Use To Lure Victims”

nappers

MOTUNRAYO JOEL writes about some of the methods kidnappers employ to trick their victims

Reports of kidnapping have become common in Nigeria. Though not a new trend, kidnappers have continued to devise new methods to lure victims. Below are some of the new tricks to watch out for:

1. Ploy at parties

In this method, a note is dubiously passed to the master of ceremonies requesting the owner of an identified vehicle to come out and move his or her vehicle to allow others parking access. Immediately the individual gets to his car, the kidnappers grab the person and zoom off in the car.

This was what happened to Mr. Remi Olakunri who was kidnapped at a party venue in Lagos some months ago.

Olakunri, who drove an SUV to the venue, heard his car’s number plate called out by the emcee, requesting him to step outside to move his vehicle. As Olakunri got to his car, three men grabbed him and forced him to drive off in his vehicle. Over N1m ransom was paid before his abductors released him.

2. Road blocks

The modus operandi of kidnappers includes mounting road blocks on highways in military uniforms and staging a surprise attack on unsuspecting motorists.

An All Progressives Congress governorship aspirant in Ondo State, Victor Olabimtan, was abducted by gunmen after he declared his interest to contest the state’s governorship election.

Olabimtan was on his way to Abuja when some persons in military attire, who dubiously manned a road block on the expressway kidnapped him.

Five Early Signs of Cancer You Probably Don’t Know About…

When it comes to treating cancer, getting diagnosed early really can mean the difference between life and death.

However a patient survey revealed that more than half of Brits ignore “red-flag” symptoms because they are worried about wasting their doctor’s time.

Many weren’t aware of the sings of cancer and blamed their ailments on ageing.

So what are the early symptoms to look out for?

Some of the potential early warning signs of cancer include:

1. Unexplained weight loss or a sore that does not heal

2. A persistent cough or hoarseness, a lump, diarrhoea or constipation

3. Moles with an irregular shape or jagged edges should be checked by a GP.

4. A feeling of not having fully emptied your bowels after going to the toilet are other signs

5. Blood in vomit, urine or faeces, bleeding between periods.

According to the survey of more than 1,700 people over the age of 50, more than 50% of people in the UK had experienced at least one of these symptoms, but only 2% thought cancer could be the cause.

The study, by Cancer Research, found that the majority of people were worried that there GP would think their complaint was trivial.

Others said they were too scared of a cancer diagnosis to seek help and some believed in maintaining a “stiff upper lip”. And worryingly a large proportion of Brits hadn’t gone to see a medical professional because they lacked confidence in the health system.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK, accounting for almost a sixth (15%) of all cases in males and females combined.

The next most common is prostate cancer (13%) followed by lung (13%) and bowel (12%).

Thief Falls Asleep In Pastor’s Room During Robbery

752741248_790632

A suspected robber has been arrested by the Police in Asamankese in the Eastern region after he was caught sleeping in the bedroom of an SDA Pastor.

The 27-year-old suspect, was found half naked and deeply asleep on the bed of Pastor Asare Nyarko having broken into the room through the ceiling to steal properties of the Pastor. Narrating the incident to Starr News’ Eastern regional Correspondent Kojo Ansah, Mr. Nyarko explained that, the incident occurred Sunday morning after he and his family had left for Church.

According to him, upon their return home, they realized all the outside lights in the house had been put off. They also noticed someone had forcefully entered the house and quickly rushed to the Police Station to lodge a report.

The Police, however, failed to escort the couple home but advised them to take pictures of the burglar for evidence. Pastor Asare mentioned that upon a careful entry to their room with some Elders of the Church, they found the suspect deeply asleep in their bedroom. “When we got closer we realized that the bulb that was in the corridor had been removed and the meter had also been closed, that told us that someone had entered the house.

“So we entered the house with caution, looked at the rooms – the first two were intact – so my wife was going to our bedroom and she saw somebody in our room. So all the Elders with myself opened the door and this guy was fast asleep on my bed and not even the noise the seven of us made woke him up.

“We had to shake him before he woke up so [we arrested him] and sent him to the police station.” The suspect had apparently returned to the house after a successful first operation but unfortunately slept off during his second attempt.

The suspect, during interrogation told the Police that after the first entry when he took away some properties, he went to smoke marijuana to gain energy to climb through the ceiling but was dazed and fell asleep in the process.

Men who put phones in their pocket destroy their sperm – study shows

Despite all the fears about cell phones and radiation, most of us still put our phones in our jean pockets. It’s easy, convenient, and any bad effects are impossible to see. But a new study warns there is conclusive evidence that men in particular need to find another storage spot. A systemic review of 21 research papers on radiation shows phones placed close to a man’s genitals for a prolonged period of time steadily drive down sperm count.

And among the studies, many suggest surviving sperm could be DMA-damaged. The biological phenomenon is currently under fierce debate since scientists have no way to explain how non-ionizing radiation influences the body. Without that link, many public health investigators are hesitant to say definitively that cell phones harm sperm. However, a new review by a team at Australia’s University of Newcastle has collated years of evidence in an attempt to both emphasize the trend, and to identify potential causes.

And since 14 per cent of the world struggle to conceive – with male infertility involved 40 per cent of the time – they warn a small detail such as where one stores their phone could be crucial. ‘While this subject remains a topic of active debate, this review has considered the growing body of evidence suggesting a possible role for RF-EMR [radiofrequency electromagnetic radiation] induced damage of the male germ line,’ the authors write. ‘In a majority of studies, this damage has been characterized by loss of sperm motility and viability as well as the induction of ROS generation and DNA damage.’

The authors reviewed 27 studies. Twenty-one of them showed a causal link between cell phone radiation and sperm damage. Ten studies were examined including 1,492 human sperm samples. Exposure to mobile phones was found to be associated with a significant eight per cent reduction in sperm motility and nine per cent reduction in sperm viability. The effects on sperm concentration were more equivocal. The results were consistent across experimental laboratory studies and correlational observational studies.

The data are hardly surprising, the authors say, given the ‘unique vulnerability of the highly specialized sperm cell’. But by continuing to store phones in pockets, the male population is ignoring ‘the future health burden that may be created if conception proceeds with defective, DNA-damaged spermatozoa’.

Dr Joel Moskowitz, of UC Berkeley’s public health school, explained to Daily Mail Online that this review is a pivotal step towards broader global understanding about the dangers of our phones. In 2011, the World Health Organization classified cell phone radiation as a possible 2B carcinogen. It was the first major recognition that cell phones could have a detrimental effect on our bodies.

However, while studies have shown a correlation between sperm count depletion and cell phone radiation, there is a lack of research and concrete findings into the link between the two. Regardless, Dr Moskowitz warned, the University of Newcastle review is clear evidence that ‘men should not store their cellphones near their genitals’. ‘In this line of research more intense cellphone radiation leads to more sperm damage,’ he added.

“My Husband Wants me to Swear Before a Deity to Prove my Marital Fidelity”

One Mrs Mary Ike has brought a case to the Jikwoyi customary court, Abuja, saying that her husband, Augustine Ike, threatened her to take an oath of marital fidelity before a deity to ascertain her faithfulness him since she got married.

She made this known in a divorce suit she filed against her husband. In her words,

“My husband wants me to swear that I have never slept with any other man since we got married.

“My husband and members of his kindred say I must swear to show that I am innocent of the allegation, the kinsmen say that if I swear and the deity finds me guilty that I will run mad. They also said that if I don’t swear and I continue to make love with my husband, or even give him food or water to drink, that he will die.

“I don’t want to run mad or have my husband dead, I just want to end this marriage and swearing before any deity except God is against my religion,” she said.

She prays the court to bring the marriage to an end because she does not want to lose her husband or go mad.

Reacting to the case, her husband,Mr. Ike said he did not come to the court to listen to the case but to serve it with the pending motion at the appeal court.

He said,

“I did not come to court today for this sitting, I only came to serve this court with our pending motion at the appeal court.

“Untill we are done from the appeal court, I will not say anything in this case,” he said.

The presiding judge, Labaran Gusau, adjourned the case till September 21 for mention.

Why Are Pastors & Their Wives Called “Daddy” & “Mummy”?

abeo

Apparently, I am also guilty of this act.

Though I call my Pastor “Pastor”….But I don’t call his wife “Mummy Pastor”…..I call her “Mummy”…and I have no idea why…It’s just like that.

So, someone is asking…Why do you call your pastor “Daddy”…and his wife “Mummy”?

After an argument in church resulting from “call me mommy and I am older than you”, I have been having this curiosity, why are pastors now called “Daddy” and their wives “mummy?” personally, I do not believe that it is right to address a pastor as “Daddy”. Like pastor is not enough respect to someone who teaches the Bible? Jesus was called “Teacher” and not Daddy. Is there any bible verse to wrong my thought or are we now adopting our own style of Christianity? And why would a pastor even accept such a title when our father in heaven is also addressed as such?

Any reasonable answers?
