Margaret who suffered severe burns from the incident is now being treated at a private medical facility in Benin City.

On her part, Mrs. Margaret who spoke on her hospital bed said:

Popular reality TV star, Khloe Kardashian has disclosed why she only dates celebrities.
In a recent interview with Harpers Bazaar, she is quoted as saying:
“I used to wonder why celebrities only dated celebrities, but when you’re in it you understand. You feel a little safer. If you’re seen with someone on your first date, you’re automatically getting married the next day. It’s so extreme!”So when you’re two celebrities, you can keep it really quiet at first, to see if you even like each other. Dating someone in your world is a little easier.
“Our family has way more information about [us] online than any other, and it’s always so bizarre when you meet someone and see their perception of you.
“Sometimes I feel like I have to prove people wrong, and that’s weird. It’s easy to meet people, but you don’t know if you’re meeting them for the right reasons. Knowing who to trust is hard.”
She continued:
“I don’t try to do things to get people to like me. The thing I dislike the most [about being a Kardashian] is the judgment on us. If I want to go out with a group of friends, it’s never as harmless as that. There has to be some story the next day that I’m dating somebody.””I really only have one deal-breaker: Do not Google me before our date!!! When you try to get to know me though Google instead of actually talking to me, it bothers me.
“The date becomes an interview, and it’s weird. I prefer to talk organically and let conversation happen.”
A 34-year-old man, identified as Lucky Onofua, has been apprehended in the Egbeda area of Lagos State after he allegedly posed as a Squadron Leader of the Nigerian Air Force and beat up a policewoman, who was controlling traffic.
It was gathered that Onofua allegedly beat up the female sergeant, whose name had yet to be known, for stopping his Sport Utility Vehicle at an intersection in Egbeda on Monday.
It was learnt that the fake air force officer got out of his vehicle and allegedly flogged the policewoman.
In the commotion that ensued, the sergeant held onto the clothes of the fake officer. An eyewitness said Onofua’s vehicle slightly hit the policewoman, who sprawled on the road and refused to get up.
It was learnt that the sergeant was rescued by some passersby who also put a distress call to the Shasha Police Division.
When the policemen got to the scene, Onofua, who hails from Irrua-Central Local Government Area of Edo State, was asked to identify himself, but he allegedly insisted that he was an air force officer.
He was said to have been taken to the police station where a call was put across to the authorities of the Nigerian Air Force in Ikeja, to ascertain his claim.
Two Wing Commanders of the Nigerian Air Force were said to have gone to the division to verify Onofua’s identity. The two officers said Onofua was an impostor.
A witness, who gave his name only as Emmanuel, said Onofua battered the police sergeant for daring to stop a “military officer’s vehicle.”
He said: “The traffic light is around a commercial bank on Egbeda Road. The area was busy. The policewoman asked the SUV to stop so that vehicles on the other side could pass. The man refused.
“The sergeant too became angry and stood in front of the vehicle. The man came down and began to flog her with a horsewhip. She held his clothes and began to tear them.
“Other motorists were afraid that it could lead to a free-for-all between security operatives and they alerted the Shasha division. That was how the man and the sergeant were invited to the station.”
A police source said that policemen at the division had invited Onofua, who was believed to be a Nigerian Air Force officer, to settle the matter amicably, only to find out he was a fake officer.
He said: “The Divisional Police Officer asked the suspect to come in so that they could talk like gentlemen. The DPO asked him to identify himself and he said he had forgotten his ID card at home. The DPO then secretly called an Air Commodore to verify the man’s claim. Two Wing Commanders from the Air Force base at PWD were thereafter sent to the division. That was how Onofua’s bubble burst and he was arrested.”
It was gathered that the suspect thereafter told the policemen that he had wanted to become an Air Force officer and that he had some friends in the force.
Policemen from the division on Tuesday reportedly went to the suspect’s apartment to check if he had guns or military uniforms in his possession.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Dolapo Badmos, confirmed Onofua’s arrest, adding that investigation was ongoing on the matter.
She said: “The suspect will be charged to court for serious assault and impersonation. He allegedly hit the sergeant with his vehicle, and came down to whip the policewoman all over.
“The Nigerian Air Force authorities were invited and we discovered that the man was an impostor. We are currently investigating the matter.”

Five Star Music artiste, Kcee, has disclosed in a new interview that except his erstwhile music partner, Precious John aka Presh retraces his footsteps, it’s going to be hard for him to bounce back.
The “Pull Over” crooner warned Presh from hating, beefing and wasting his time.
In the new interview, Kcee says:
“Presh story is deep and emotional. It is long and I might not want to go too deep into it. I would just say that whatever that is happening to him is where he wants to be.
He can get out of where he is. There is no way you can eat your cake and have it. It’s a proverb. But I think he needs to see everybody around him as his brother. If you are hating, beefing, you are wasting your time. Invest that time into something positive, that is just the message.”
Continuing, he added: “He is my friend. If I tell you how I met him and how we started the group till we got to where we got to, it will take time. One thing I know for sure is that God will always pay you good for good.
It might take time. Most of my peers that we started music with, I cannot even remember them because they are no more in the scene. I am not saying it because I have more talent than them but I think the little thing I’m doing, God is just blessing me. Presh needs to retrace his steps, pray to God, maybe he will get success.”
Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode on the 14th of June, 2016, marked his 53rd birthday with a special luncheon to raise funds for the provision of three Mobile Cancer Centres across the three Senatorial Districts in Lagos State, with a call on Nigerians to join hands together to wage war against the scourge.
The Governor who gave a speech at an event tagged #GivingTuesdayLagos put together by the Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy (CECP-Nigeria), which coincided with his 53rd Birthday, said the Centres would go a long way to save millions of Nigerians from preventable suffering and death.
The governor, lamenting the rate at which the terminal disease has claimed thousands of lives in recent times, said it was unacceptable and therefore calls for concerted efforts from all and sundry.
He said the war against cancer was one that the government cannot tackle alone, hence the need for Nigerians to extend their philanthropy towards the scourge.
“Lives are lost every day to cancer and this is unacceptable. This is why the Lagos State Government carries out public health programmes focused on cancer. I believe that the government alone cannot solve every problem; everyone has a role to play. In my one year in office, I have come to realise that even with the best will in the world, Government cannot do everything. The real challenge before me as Governor of Lagos is how I unite public, private and philanthropic sectors in building our state. I am therefore, glad that through this private sector led initiative I can play a role in helping to advance the BIG WAR Against Cancer for the well-being of not just the good people of Lagos State but Nigerians in general. We can only achieve this goal with the generous support of all people of goodwill. Without these donations, the goal would not be reached and the opportunity to save lives would be lost,” he said.
Ambode, commended the CECP and philanthropists who donated towards the purchase of the first set of Mobile Cancer Centres. He stated that though the initial target was for one Centre in Lagos, having three centres in each of the senatorial districts in the State was a priority for him.
“The purpose of this Luncheon is to raise funds for One Mobile Cancer Centre for Lagos but I would like to challenge us all to not only give towards the provision of one Mobile Cancer Center but towards the provision of three Mobile Cancer Centers servicing each of the senatorial districts of Lagos; as the Centre of Excellence and Africa’s model City-State. This would help to save millions of Nigerians from preventable suffering and death. We can only achieve this goal with the generous support of all people of goodwill. Without these donations, the goal would not be reached and the opportunity to save lives would be lost,” he said.
He also expressed the readiness of his administration to mobilise philanthropists and Corporate Organisations towards establishing a comprehensive Cancer Centre in Lagos within the next three years, starting with making available a piece of land in any part of the State as well as facilitating speedy paper work.
“This is not really a celebration but a call to service. Against all odds; against all the things happening to the economy in the country; against the numbers; against the anxieties and the panic, we are still able to stand up and gather ourselves together and say we want to give back to humanity, that is symbolic and key for me and I think we must commend ourselves that all hope is not lost. There is more value to us and humanity in championing this course,” he said.
Stunning Nollywood actress, Fathia Balogun, shaved her hair bald for a movie role quite recently and these new photos of hers shows she’s rocking the new look quite boldly.
The beauty was compared with her colleagues on who rocks the bald look best – while many say Nollywood actress, Mercy Johnson rocks it best, one can’t deny that Fathia also, is doing a good job donning the look.
Her girlfriend, Patience Cater(pictured right), narrated her horrifying lengthy ordeal, of how she and Akyra(pictured left), had to go back into the club to save their friend, Tiara. (See here)
Akyra was only 18 and had just graduated from high school. She had been persuaded by her friends, Patience and Tiara, to go with them to the Pulse gay nightclub to celebrate her graduation. She didn’t come out of there alive.
Many nightclubs bar minors where alcohol is served but Orlando and Pulse Nightclub allow under 21 to enter. Akyra had been dropped at the nightclub with her girlfriend Patience Carter, by her mum.
According to her friends, Akyra was a bright student who graduated third in her class at West Catholic Preparatory High School in Philadelphia. She had plans to attend Mercyhurst University before her life was cut short on Sunday June 12th when Omar Marteen opened fire, killing 49 people.
According to reports, after being shot in the arm by the gunman, Akyra hid from him as he stalked his victims in the club. Frantic, she sent a text to her mother, Natalie Murray, who had dropped her and a girlfriend off at the club at 11:30 p.m. Saturday.
“She doesn’t drink, she just wanted to have a good time,” Natalie told the NY Daily News.
She recalled the chilling text message from her daughter, saying there was a shooting at Pulse. Natalie called her daughter as she raced back to the club. She told Akyra to apply pressure to the wound and stay calm. Akyra cried for her mother as she hid in a bathroom stall.
Natalie hung up the phone to call 911. She never spoke to her daughter again.
Akyra’s girlfriend, Patience Carter, 20, was also wounded in the attack. The New York University student and musician is expected to recover.
Akyra is the youngest victim of the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. history.
One can’t get enough of these two though, one can’t neglect the fact that they are more than perfect for each other. One can’t tell if the two are actually broken up or if they’re just keeping their ish on the low low.

The Gov. Rauf Aregbesola of Osun on Tuesday said students who wore unauthorised cloths to any public schools in the State would be expelled henceforth.
Aregbesola stated this at the commissioning of St Micheal’s Government Middle School, Ibokun while reacting to different choir robes and garments wore to Baptist High School in Iwo by some Christian students.
He said it was wrong and criminal for a section or group of people to have directed some innocent students to wear choir robes to schools against court’s judgment.
He urged whoever was not satisfied with the judgment to ventilate the grievance through legitimate means rather than trying to cause crises by resorting to self help.
According to him,“Government is not interested in any religion as being speculated. My goal is to improve education standard in the state.’’
Deputy Governor Titilaoye Tomori, who doubles as the Commissioner for Education, said the inauguration of the school had confirmed their mission statement in education.
Tomori said no fewer than 20 elementary, 22 middle and 17 high schools had either been commissioned or were at final stages of commissioning.
State Chairman, Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Mr Felix Awofisayo urged people to pay tax so that government can do more.
Some students of Iwo Baptist High School wore church garments and robes to school on Tuesday in reaction to the court ruling allowing Muslim female students to wear veils (hijab) to schools.
20 year old Patience Carter is one of the few surviving witnesses to the last moments of the worst mass shooting to be recorded in American history.
Carter, had fled into the bathroom of Pulse nightclub during the Orlando massacre, and as the situation was winding down, she said the gunman told police negotiators on the phone that he pledged his allegiance to ISIS, and that he wouldn’t stop his assault until America stopped bombing his country.
She also said he tried to spare black people because according to him, they had suffered enough. Speaking at a press conference ,she narrated her horrifying ordeal:
How did me and my friends end up at Pulse nightclub? Well, we just got to Orlando, Florida, from Philadelphia the night before. So we just got there. This is my first time ever being in Florida, first time ever being in Orlando, first time ever being at Pulse nightclub.
How did we even get there? Akyra, who unfortunately is no longer here, Google mapped popular clubs in Orlando and Pulse was the first one to come up. It had five stars, and we were so excited. We were extremely excited.
So her mom and her dad drove us there. And we actually reached Pulse nightclub outside of it around 11:50. But because we needed to go get changed to get inside, we walked over to 7-11 together. So by the time we got to Pulse nightclub it was probably a little after 12.
And at the door, they checked our IDs to make sure that we were over 18. But the sweetest face greeted me right before I paid my $10. Her name was Amanda. She was one of the victims who unfortunately did not make it. She had glasses and her bang. I told her that her shoes were the cutest I’ve ever seen.
She let me be her plus-one so I didn’t have to pay. So when we entered together, Amanda, Akyra and Tiara Parker, who’s my best friend, we were all having a good time for a short period of time before Amanda actually disappeared. We don’t even — we didn’t remember what happened to her. She said she was going to the bathroom because there are three parts of Pulse nightclub as you all know now.
There’s a patio that’s outside. There’s a middle section. And there’s an indoor — another indoor part where most of the live entertainment takes place back there. And at first when we got in we were hanging out in the middle section with Amanda.
And then when she went to the bathroom, we waited for awhile. But we realized she didn’t come back, so we just… we decided to go to the bathroom too because we had to go to the bathroom, and we didn’t see her in there.
So we just decided to go in the indoor part after that — the back indoor part where the rest of the live entertainment was taking place. And we stayed there the rest of the night until the gunshots started.
And we were having the time of our lives. Akyra was the life of the party, literally. And everybody loved her. Everyone just adored her.
Tiara Parker was her cousin. We were just all having the night that we dreamed of of going out. Literally it was the best. It was the most beautiful bonding experience any three girls could have on their first night out on vacation.
And it wasn’t until about 1:58 when I looked at Akyra’s phone, and I turned to Tiara. I said, “So how are getting home?” Tiara told me, “Oh, we’re gonna get an Uber.” So she started to order the Uber. And a few seconds from her ordering the Uber and me asking that question, that’s when we started hearing the gun shots going off in the middle section where we had left from.
At first we didn’t know that there were gun shots. I… I didn’t know. I was so confused. I was like, “Wow. A club would do all this just to get people to leave their club?” Like they would have like BB guns — I thought it was a BB gun at first, or the DJ playing some sort of sound of gunshots. I didn’t think they were actually real gunshots.
But the fear inside me made me drop to the floor anyways. So I’m scrambling on the floor. Tiara and Akyra run towards the bar, and I’m scooting backwards not realizing that I’m about to go out the door, and it was actually the exit there.
And I saw Akyra get up and run over to me, and I look up, and we’re actually outside. Me and Akyra actually made it outside while the gunshots were still going on.
And I said, “Well where’s Tiara? Where’s Tiara?”
So… And the part of the poem where I feel so guilty about surviving is because if I would’ve told Akyra to stay outside and just wait and I tried to go back and get Tiara because she didn’t make it. Me and Tiara did make it, and I feel really guilty about that. And I was speaking to her mom and she told me not to feel guilty. You know, God has his plan. But I told her, “Let’s go get Tiara. We gotta get Tiara.”
So when we went inside, we got trapped in there. So we saw Tiara, but everybody was rushing into the bathroom stall. Everyone was rushing to the bathroom stall. The gunshots were still going off rapidly. And it’s still not real to me. It’s still not real to me. I’m just like, “Why are they doing all of this?” And I was even Snapchatting in the bathroom stall once we got in there. We ran into the bathroom. Me, Tiara and Akyra were like actually the last ones to actually get into the bathroom stall, the handicap one, the biggest one.
And the guy… It was an African American male who ended up closing and locking the door who I believe got shot from doing that in the process.
And the gunman entered the bathroom and was shooting his machine gun. So we’re all like scrambling around in the bathroom screaming at the top of our lungs when he was in there for the first time.
And then, you know, people were getting hit by bullets. Blood is everywhere, and then there was a moment where he stopped shooting in the bathroom, and that’s when everyone looked around, and that’s when I first realized that my leg was shot. There was several other people shot and bleeding in the bathroom.
That’s when Akyra, who didn’t make it, realized she was shot in her arm. And I’m not sure if that was when Tiara also got shot in her side, but we were all pretty bad. And at that point we knew that this wasn’t… this wasn’t a game. This was very real, and this is something that was really happening to us right now.
And it was shock. We just went from having the time of our lives to the worst night of our lives all within a matter of minutes.
So the gunman had stopped shooting for awhile. I don’t know where he went, but I was lying in the bathroom floor. I was right underneath the stall wall. So the stall wall was like right above my face because I was trying to get most of my body into the second stall because there was a lot of people, and my leg was injured at the — I got shot in my leg, and it was actually pinned under the person who was laying right next to me, so it was very painful.
And we laid there for hours and hours hoping that someone came and got us and hoping that the police would come through at that point in time and just like save us all.
But throughout that period of hours, the gunman was in there with us, and he actually made a call to 911 from in there.
Everybody could hear it who was in the bathroom who survived could hear him talking to 911 saying that the reason why he’s doing this is because he wants America to stop bombing his country. And from that conversation, from 911, he pledged his allegiance to ISIS and he started speaking and I believe after he got off the phone with 911, he started speaking in Arabic. And now that I know to be Arabic. At first I didn’t know like what the language was.
And… and after that, he even spoke to us directly in the bathroom. He said, “Are there any black people in here?” I was too afraid to answer, but there was an African American male in the stall where most of my body was, the majority of my body was, had answered. And he said, “Yes. There are about six or seven of us.”
And the gunman responded back to him saying that, “You know, I don’t have a problem with black people. This is about my country. You guys suffered enough.” And he just… He made a statement saying that it wasn’t about black people, this isn’t the reason why he was doing this.
But through the conversation with 911, he said that the reason why he was doing this was because he wanted America to stop bombing his country. So the motive was very clear to us who were laying in our own blood and other people’s blood who were injured, who were shot, that we knew what his motive was, and he wasn’t going to stop killing people until he was killed, until he felt like his message got out there.
And he made several other comments like while we were in the bathroom.
And just quickly to retract for a second, when he first came in the bathroom, there were like pellets. It felt, what felt like BB gun pellets is what I got… gave me the impression that it was a BB gun is because there were wall fragments hitting my legs, but that was really just the machine gun that he had blaring around the entire room.
And it actually got jammed. He was like, “Damn!” Like it jammed. So with my face under the stall looking I could see him put down his machine gun and try to… and you could hear him trying to click and fix his handgun.
So time goes on and people’s phones are going off. People are obviously calling. And there was actually a… Before he came back in you know Akyra was on her phone talking to her mom asking, and that’s when everybody was asking for people to come and get us and help and you know save us basically. And you know people were on the phone with 911.
But when he came back into the bathroom after that first round of machine gun shots went off, that’s when he wanted everybody to get off their phones. He didn’t want to hear anybody on their phones. He didn’t want to hear any text message sounds. He didn’t want to hear any phones ringing, so every time a phone rung or every time a text message went off, he would say, “Where is it? Give it up. Where is it?” And it was a point in time where there was somebody’s phone who was going off. It wasn’t even inside the stall. It wasn’t even inside the stall. The phone was outside.
And because he was still saying, “Where is it? Give it up. Give it up.” I just tossed my phone out because I didn’t even… nobody was responding, so we’re assuming that the person whose phone it was was either already shot, dead or they just didn’t know it was their phone that was outside of the stall.
But the last shots that went off that he did inside the bathroom while we were held hostage was right before the police bust through our bathroom that we were inside of.
The police have apprehended a suspected quack doctor, Victor Akpan, in the Gwarinpa area of Abuja. Akpan, who had been running a private hospital for 10 years, allegedly operated with forged and stolen certificates.
As a quack doctor, he was said to have performed caesarean sections, removed fibroids and delivered pregnant women of babies.
Akpan’s arrest was sequel to investigations by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria. It was gathered that the suspect was the owner of Luna Maternity and Surgery Hospital, an outfit he opened in 2006 using a forged licence – four years after the MDCN refused to grant him licence to practice as a homeopath.
The Head of the Inspectorate Division of MDCN, Dr Henry Okwuokenye, who had been investigating Akpan, said the regulatory agency did not grant him a homeopathic practice licence “because the school he claimed to have graduated from in Enugu State was not approved to train students in alternative medicine.”
He said an investigation by the MDCN showed that Akpan presented forged documents to unsuspecting officials of the Private Health Establishment and Monitoring Committee, an organisation, which regulates private health outfits in Abuja, to get Luna registered.
“Akpan had big name patients as far back as 2007 and had facilitated the expansion of his clinic. He hired five workers, who assisted him in an apartment where he performed caesarean sections, removed fibroids and delivered pregnant women of babies,” Okwuokenye said.
It was learnt that the suspect, who was already with the police, could be paraded this week.
Akpan told police investigators that in 2002, he allegedly paid N15, 000 to one Nwagbara, a worker with a teaching hospital in Enugu State, to get a forged MDCN practice certificate.
The certificate, was issued to one Dr. Awani, a 1995 Medicine and Surgery graduate of the University of Benin. Among other documents allegedly forged by Akpan, one indicated he did his internship at Calvary International Hospital in Enugu in 1996 and had his National Youth Service Corps with the Nigerian Prisons Service in 1997.
He also claimed to have attended a course organised by the West African College of Surgeons in 2001 and a postgraduate course on Scientific Basis of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 2002.

Popular pop star, Ayodeji Balogun, a.k.a. Wizkid, has commended the Lagos State police command for redeeming his image before his international clients and arresting a 19-year-old fraudster who ripped prospective clients abroad of their hard earned money.
“I am very thankful to the Nigeria police for what they did for me. The case has been going on for a while now, I thank God we have been able to arrest one of the suspects. We would pursue this case to the court and ensure we get justice.
“The actions of these fraudsters have affected my business worldwide. I still have two cases pending in New York, United States now. There was a particular case of a $45,000 that was collected from a promoter in USA by these fraudsters using my name. There is another case of $25,000.
I am happy my name is being cleared and I want justice.
“The situation has affected me psychologically because I was being accused of taking money I knew nothing about. The press also did not believe me so that dampened my morale,” the singer said.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, few weeks ago revealed that a 19-year-old girl, who for long had been posing as Wizkid on social media, had been arrested.
The teenager was said to have duped many people, including students of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) before she was arrested. Among her victims were two people living overseas. The money was over $53,000, equivalent of about N10.4 million.
According to Owoseni, the suspect, who is a student of one of the universities in the country, was arrested after Wizkid reported the case to the police command complaining that someone was impersonating him and duping unsuspecting persons.
The suspect opened a Facebook account in Wizkid’s name and displayed the artiste picture. She started chatting with friends on Facebook, pretending to be Wizkid.
There’s a particular page I like on Facebook: People Are Awesome. This page showcases tremendous things people all over the earth can do with their bodies, their talents, their gadgets and all.
Although, this photo you’re seeing above was not gotten from the People Are Awesome page, it’s worth sharing that the lady in the photo is absolutely AWESOME!
Y’all see how busty and fleshy her body is, and yet, look how she’s flexing those muscles like she’s one world class professional! Maybe she is, either ways, she’s AWESOME!
It started like rumor that Terry G is now Born Again but Terry G seems not to be playing with us. I think Baba is Born Again really this time and he is not forgetting his plan to turn to Pastor, Pastor Ginger! LOL.
Meanwhile, Terry G hits with another melodic gospel inspired record titled “Olorun Tobi” and this one is Standard! Maybe Terry G should just switch to making Gospel Songs because all his Gospel Inspired Records has been a hit, back to back! The production credit goes to DXL

The slow-reggae meets highlife vibe sure looks like a favorite for G-WORLDWIDE artiste SUGARBOY who after his debut hit single “Hola Hola” has gone to become fan’s favourate and a street anthem, and his massive contributions to label mate KISS DANIEL’s debut album “New Era” is releasing his second official single since being signed to GWW. DOUBLE is an inspirational song that speaks of a young man’s quest to go out in the world and make it, his mother’s words of advice to him and his thanks to God for his success. It is a message to young people not to forget their roots on the journey up.
The song was produced by BeatBurx and mixed and mastered by OnePlus as a follow-up to Sugarboy’s last single “Hola Hola” which quickly earned him the ears of the audience, and to get fans further endeared to his songwriting and vocal skills.
Lying wounded on the floor of Pulse nightclub, with a gunman continuing to fire bullets into the motionless bodies of patrons all around him, Angel Colon thought it was his turn to die.
With three bullets in his leg, which was shattered as desperate clubgoers trampled him, he was unable to run to safety. And Omar Mateen, who had sprayed the popular nightclub in Orlando with bullets before briefly moving to another part of the venue, was heading back in his direction
“All I could do was just lay down there while everyone was just running on top of me trying to get to where they had to be,” Colon recounted on Tuesday, June 14, alongside the emergency medical personnel he credited with saving his life.
“And all I could hear was the shots going one after another, and people screaming, people yelling for help,” he told reporters.
Two days after 50 people were killed and dozens of others grievously injured in America’s deadliest mass shooting, Colon, his voice quivering, recalled how a festive evening out with friends turned into unfathomable horror early Sunday.
He spoke at the Orlando Regional Medical Center, where survivors recounted the terror and tragedy of the shooting at Pulse, one of the city’s top gay clubs, as well as the heroism of the medical staff that struggled to cope early Sunday with the sudden flood of gunshot victims.
“We were just having a great time. We were all just there having a drink. It was shortly after two o’clock. We were saying our good-byes. I’m hugging everyone. It was a great night,” Colon recounted. “No drama, just smiles, just laughter.”
A short time before the club was due to close, the shooting started. Colon was hit in the leg.
“I was shot about three times in my leg, so I had fallen down. I tried to get back up, but everyone started running anywhere. I got trampled over, and I shattered and broke my bones on my left leg. So by this time I couldn’t walk at all,” he said.
He briefly thought he had escaped death, when the shooter turned his weapons on victims in another part of the club.
“He goes into the other room, and I can just hear more shots going on. I thought I was a little safe at this time because, you know, it’s giving everyone time to tackle him down or get him down,” he said.
“Unfortunately, I hear him come back, and he’s shooting everyone that’s already dead on the floor. Making sure they’re dead. I can hear the (gunshots) closer, and I look over and he shoots the girl next to me. And I’m just there laying down. I’m thinking, ‘I’m next. I’m dead.'”
The gunman shoots the already wounded Colon twice more, but somehow, the survivor said, “by the glory of God, he shoots towards my head but it hits my hand.
“Then he shoots me again and it hits the side of my hip,” he recalled.
Colon was careful not to give away the fact that, despite having a half-dozen bullets lodged in his body, he was not dead.
“I had no reaction. I was just prepared to just stay there laying down so he won’t know that I’m alive,” he said. “And he’s just doing this for another five, ten minutes. He’s just shooting all over the place.”
The shooting continued, Colon said, until police who burst into the building traded fire with the gunman and rescued the survivors, three hours after the start of the ordeal. Colon said a police officer dragged him to safety – through broken glass.
“The floor is just covered in glass. So he’s dragging me out while I’m just getting cut – my behind, my back, my legs. I don’t feel pain, but I just feel all this blood on me from myself, from my other people.”
Some students of Baptist High School, Adeeke, Iwo caused a stir among their colleagues as they appeared in the school in choir robes and other church garments.
A Punch correspondent, who visited the school observed that the students came late to the school around 8:35 on Tuesday and headed to their various classes as their colleagues hailed them for their courage.
Many female Muslim students of the school wore hijab on their uniforms and some members of the Christian Association of Nigeria are in the school to monitor the reaction of the teachers to the mode of dressing of their children.
No student was chased out of the classes for appearing in different clothes and all the students irrespective of their chosen uniforms were being taught by their teachers.
Earlier, Justice Jide Falola of the Osun State High Court had on June 3 given a verdict that Muslim students should be allowed to wear hijab in all public schools in the state because it was part of their fundamental rights.
The CAN had held an emergency meeting following the judgment and threatened that it would direct Christian pupils to start wearing choir robes and other religious garments to schools should the state government implement the judgement.
