President Barack Obama on Thursday endorsed his former top diplomat Hillary Clinton in the campaign to succeed him, throwing his full weight into the 2016 White House race with a video message declaring: “I’m with her.”

The president earlier hosted Sanders in the Oval Office in a bid to heal those wounds.
Obama’s backing will give Clinton a potent surrogate on the campaign trail. After nearly eight years in the White House, Obama is still one of the country’s most popular politicians.
His approval ratings among black, Hispanic, young and liberal voters are stratospheric.

Adenike Rodoye, a 44-year-old businesswoman, had lost her 20-year-old marriage to her husband, Durojaiye, because she was always tearing his boxers so as to rape him.
“My wife has turned my boxers to rags as she always tears them to rape me at night,” the man told an Igando Customary Court in Lagos State on Thursday.
According to Vanguard, the president of the court, Mr Adegboyega Omilola, after he had listened to the couple, said that he was convinced that they could no longer live together as husband and wife. Omilola said that he had to dissolve the union after the petitioner had insisted on the divorce.
The president added that several interventions made by him to reconcile them felt on deaf ears.
“This court has no choice than to dissolve the union in spite of the fact that the wife still claims she loves her husband.
“Both parties are no longer husband and wife, as the marriage has broken down totally, they are free to go their separate ways,” Omilola ruled
Earlier, the 56-year-old-petitioner, Durojaiye, alleged that his wife was always threatening his life through beating and that he was afraid she might kill him one day.
“I had to run away from my 22-flat building to rent an apartment elsewhere just to avoid her frequent beatings, but she trailed me to my new apartment to fight me.
“I had reported her in the past to different police stations, but it did not yield any positive result,” he said.
Durojaiye, a pensioner, also alleged that his wife poured hot water on the new wife his family married for him from the village.
He begged the court to end their 20-year-old marriage, saying he was no longer in love with his wife whose actions had continued to endanger his life.
“Please, separate us before my wife kills me, my life is not safe with her, I am a pensioner, I need to enjoy the fruits of my labour,” he said.
However, the wife, Mrs Adenike Rodoye, denied all the allegations levelled against her by her husband. She alleged that her husband was a womaniser.
“My husband runs after anything in skirt; he always sends me packing from the house whenever he wants to bring in another woman. He once sent me out with the children for three years.
“After sending me out, he had married six different women, but none stayed long with him. He was always begging me return to my matrimonial home later,” she said.
The mother of five said she never raped her husband, adding that it was normal for husband and wife to make love.
The respondent also denied ever beating-up her husband but alleged that her husband was always beating her.
Adenike said that her husband removed the plasma television set, the air conditioner and disconnected the electricity supply from her flat, leaving her and the children in the dark.
She said that Durojaiye also fought with her pastor on several occasions and even arrested him with police.
Adenike said that the development led the church’s leadership to ban her from worshipping there.

Popular Nigerian dialectical rappers, Olamide and Phyno yesterday, June 8, 2016 met with the Lagos state Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode at the Lagos state government’s state house.

The head (baale) of Temidire Community in Alagbado, Lagos, Alhaji Nojeem Abioye and his son, Wahab, were yesterday arraigned before an Ikeja High Court for alleged murder.
They were brought before Justice Lateef Lawal-Akapo for allegedly killing Alhaji Rasaki Olaniyan Olatunji, popularly known as Tunji Alaso and Alhaji Gay.
They are facing a two-count charge of “conspiracy to commit felony, to wit murder and murder”, based on the advice of the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge preferred against them. Justice Lawal-Akapo ordered that they be remanded in Kirikiri Medium Prison custody.
He fixed hearing on the bail applications for June 23.
The DPP’s advice, signed by a Principal State Counsel, Mr. M. T. Adewoye, said 24 suspects were investigated by the Police for Olatunji’s death.
Olatunji, an hotelier, was reportedly killed during a riot last July 20 in Alagbado, which was allegedly organised by Abioye and the community.
According to the police:
“Immediately the deceased’s vehicle was sighted, some thugs led by the Baale and others attacked him and broke the glass of his jeep. After escaping the attack, the deceased left the scene to report at Alagbado Police Station. Thereafter, the deceased and some police officers went back to the scene and he was attacked again.”
“It was the Baale who held him on the neck while Taofeek Olori and Idowu Terror, now at large, held his hands while the Baale’s son, Wahab Abioye hit the deceased with a shovel on his head and Taofeek Olori stabbed the deceased severally on his body”.
Yesterday, the late Olatunji’s elder sister, Madam Ganiyat Olapeju Popoola, told reporters after the proceedings that his widow, Idowu, gave birth to a baby boy earlier in the day.
The Bill seeking to reduce the age qualifications for interested candidates to contest for the positions of President, governor and senate in the country to 30 years yesterday passed second reading in the House of Representatives.
The bill, further reduces the age qualifications to contest for the House of Representatives and State Houses of Assembly to 25 years.
According to Vanguard, the Bill is an alteration of section 65, 106, 131 and 177 of the 1999 constitution which had prescribed qualification into the office of President to 40 years and above, office of governors and senate, 35 years and above as well as House of Representatives and state Houses of Assembly to 25 years and above.
In his lead debate, the sponsor of the bill, Tony Chinedu Nwulu representing Oshodi-Isolo 11 Federal Constituency of Lagos State, on platform of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, noted that electing candidates into public offices was an important aspect of democratic practices.
He stated:
“Countries like the United Kingdom parliament decided in 2006 to lower their age of candidacy from 21 to 18, which had existed since the Parliamentary Elections Act 1695. An age candidacy of 25 would encourage greater youth participation in politics.”

A 41-year-old carpenter, Mr. Francis Emmanuel Francis, almost lost his right eye on Tuesday following an attack on him by Muslim youths for not observing the Ramadan fast.
This is coming barely a week after a 74-year-old, Mrs Bridget Agbahime, was murdered in Kano for allegedly blaspheming Prophet Mohammed.
An eyewitness account had it that the carpenter courted trouble for himself when he was spotted by some Muslim boys in the Sokoto Road area of Kakuri,in Kaduna South Local Government Area, when a at about 2.30pm, eating when others were supposed to be observing the fast. This drew the ire of the youth who started beating him.
Emmanuel, according to the eyewitness, was given the beating of his life and subsequently rushed to the St. Gerard Catholic Hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.
He was inflicted with deep machete cuts on his head and other parts of his body during the incident. Narrating his ordeal to journalists from his hospital bed, Emmanuel said he was taking his lunch when the boys, numbering about six, descended on him on the grounds that he was not fasting.
He said:
“I went to buy wood to do some work. When I came back, I bought food to eat. As I was eating, about six Hausa boys came and asked me whether I was a Muslim or a Christian. I did not answer them. They asked me why I was not fasting. I told them that I am not a Muslim.
“Before I know it, one of them slapped me. As I stood up, the rest came and surrounded me and started attacking me with knives. I didn’t know them. Nobody could come to my aid because of the type of dangerous knives they were carrying.
“They used cutlasses, scissors and knives. I became unconscious; I don’t even know who brought me to the hospital.”

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN has threatened to direct Christian pupils to wear choir robes and other church garments to public schools in Osun State should the state government implements the court judgment on hijab.
Justice Jide Oyelola had last Friday ruled that Muslim female pupils in all public schools should be allowed to wear hijab to schools without any harassment or molestation.
But CAN, in a communique issued at the end of its meeting and signed by its Osun State Chairman, Revd. Elisha Ogundiya, said the association would ask Christian pupils to wear garments associated with church activities to schools if Governor Rauf Aregbesola decided to implement the court verdict.
The CAN also said it suspected that Aregbesola ‘masterminded’ the judgement as part of his efforts to Islamise the state but the Christian body vowed not to allow this to happen.
The CAN, which rejected the judgment, stated that the judge made an ancillary order which was not based on any submission or prayer canvassed before the court when he ruled that hijab the pupils should be using must be the colour and design already approved by the state government.
The communique read,
“Where the Osun State Government is inclined to implementing the judgment, Christian students in all public schools founded by Christians with the toil and sweat of our forefathers in the faith will have no choice but to start wearing Christian garments and vestments as part of their school uniform for the propagation of our own faith given the Justice Saka Oyejide Falola declared right of Muslim female students to do same as what is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander as well. Adherents of other faith who have their choice to make in this matter can wear theirs as well.”
However, one of the Muslim leaders in the state, who is also the lead counsel for the Muslim Community in Osun State, Mr. Kazeem Odedeji, when contacted asked Christians not to bring emotion to the issue.
Odedeji said the Muslims did not take the laws to their own hands when their children were denied the rights to wear hijab. He said they approached the court and waited for three and a half years before the court ruled in their favour.
Calls placed across to the telephone line of the media aide to the governor, Mr. Semiu Okanlawon, were not answered and the response to the text sent to his telephone and email inquiry was still being awaited as of the time of filing this report.
